Greg,

Don't need one. Once you have it connected to USB via the adapter, it can be
selected using JAWS. Go to JAWS/Utilities/Synthesizer and Braille Manager.

There are USB-to-Serial dongles that are pretty reasonable in price. Then
JAWS will recognize the hardware using a serial port number. I have my

Hi All,

I was cleaning out my office the other day (they are giving us new
carpet at work), and I found an old hardware DecTalk with a serial
connector. Now aside from the connector issue, is the hardware DecTalk
even supported anymore by Jaws? If so, is there a converter that will
allow me to connect it to my laptop?

In my opinion, the hardware DecTalk was the best speech ever so I am
really hoping it is still a viable option.

Thanks for any info.

Hi, I've come across a stranh poroblem. I clicked restore on the
iphone recovery mode wizard. Then it said "Itunes dialog, ok

went wrong. I restarted jaws and it said "The iph"one iphone
could not be restored, an unknown error occured (3014.)" I
clicked ok. Then tried again and the same window appeared. How
do I fix the itunes error 3014? I'm using latest version of
itunes, windows 10 and jaws 17 latest. I've also checked to see
if there were any viruses that caused it but there were not. Can
someone help me get around this? My laptop is 3 years oldddI have

Hi,
I am not sure you could have W10 automatically install because you have to
do a few steps during the install process. Are you sure it is not the icon
down by the clock in the system tray and also a screen may come up telling
you about installing W10. So my next question is are you sure it installed
W10? And if so how do you know it is using W10?

If he was running jaws 16, 17 or have openbook installed, That would never
happen, like you say, automatically.
Because the upgrade would only get to about 25% complete and you would have
to cancel the install, or continue and remove the FS programs.

2016-03-09 Thread Adrian Spratt
The last few times I've installed Dectalk Express, I've needed to install no
related software. There is no Dectalk software on my Win 7 machine, and the
synthesizer works fine. Once you have the connector, just plug it in. then go
to the JAWS synthesizer dialog to have it recognized. The default settings in
that dialog (i.e., the com port, etc.) are correct and, at least in my case,
created no conflict with other hardware.

I'm using JAWS 17.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Hardware decTalk -- is it still usable?

Those Dectalk Express units are coveted items. You may want to consider
selling it if you no longer use it. No, I don't need one myself.

[JAWS-Users] Opening an Excel document in Windows 10 and JAWS 17

2016-03-09 Thread Don Moore
Hi list,

I received a 15 KB xlsx document as an attachment and I
saved it. Then, I tried to open it on my Windows 10 computer. JAWS kept
reporting, "Opening Excel," but the document never did come in. I pressed
alt Tab and got the following message:

"Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not
enough available memory or disk space.

. To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer
need.

. To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are
saving to." (end of quote)

By the way, I have plenty of available memory and plenty of available disk
space.

I can launch Excel and create a new xlsx document, then I
can save it, close it and open it again, but I tried opening some older
Excel files and they won't open either.

Finally, I tried opening the file on a Windows 7 machine and
on a Windows 8.1 machine and it opened with no problems on both computers.

Can anyone help?

Don

[JAWS-Users] Success! Trying to open an xlsx file in Windows 10 and JAWS 17

2016-03-09 Thread Don Moore
Hi list,

Firstly, to answer Rick's question, I am using Office 2013.

I finally had some success with this issue! A friend suggested that
I check the Excel settings because Microsoft makes everything so secure
these days. I went to Options under the File menu, then I went down to Trust
Center and turned off "Protected view" for everything, ,but specifically for
E-mail attachments and files from the Internet. Now, these files open
properly.

I only wish that Microsoft would give the proper error message
instead of sending a bogus message about insufficient memory and disk space.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Don

Hi Don,
You didn't say what version of the Office suite you are using.
Is it the same on all 3 systems?
If it is a newer version on your Windows 10 system, you may need to install
the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack in order for it to open older
documents.
This is only a guess on my part since I am not right up to speed on
Microsoft Office.

HTH,
Rick Justice

Tomorrow's another day, another way!
and if tomorrow never comes, problem solved!

[JAWS-Users] another question about McAfee live safe internet security

2016-03-09 Thread anna vimini

Thanks again Jim for all your help
Re: [JAWS-Users] another question about McAfee live safe internetsecurity
Just a program update.
Mcafee is always updating itself in the background.
Their new update for your version of mcafee included a slite change in
the name of the desktop icon.

Nothing to worry about, all is fine.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed
reaching His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with
good health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be
spiritually balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens
where God sits.

Re: [JAWS-Users] McAfee web advisor
No, mcafee does not show up under the toolbar any more.
However, it is working correctly in the background.
Make sure you leave the safe search enabled in IE 11.
I hope this explains it for you.
