Hi Maria,

Have you tried pressing the backspace key to go back a page?  I have not
heard of a keystroke that will take you forward a page.  It would be nice
if
 there is/was one.  Take care.

Is there a JAWS hotkey for quickly moving to the next or previous page of a
 multiple-page website?
At work I need to move between pages and don't find it efficient to deal
with the next or previous page links.
I tried the alt left arrow or right arrow, but that didn't work.
If there isn't such a hotkey, I humbly suggest such an animal.

I am using Jaws 11 with Win 7 64 bit and have been annoyed by the numerous
times it loses focus but today has been unbelievable. It keeps flipping back
to the desktop constantly. In the middle of an email reply, a game, on the
Internet... (oops, just did it again) it keeps going back to the desktop. It
has done it about 6 times when I was on Facebook, twice when I was in the
middle of typing (just did it again!)I have not been able to accomplish
anything on the computer today. Any ideas why it is
Now it just flipped to the speaker volume dialog for no reason.

Now it just jumped to the start button.
4 times it has lost focus or opened other items in the last couple of
minutes while I was trying to type this email.

They said they would call me back in 2 or 3 days and until then, they would
just keep making sure I had activations. Of course, a dongle might be nice,
then I wouldn't have to use the demo when I'm working on other's computers.
We'll just have to wait and see I guess.

It depends upon what you want. If you use your computer all the time in the
same place, then a desktop is the way to go. However, if you wish to move

Hi There:

If you are going to buy a new laptop, then definitely go with windows 7
premium. It is a superior OS over windows vista. Lets put it this way! A lot

of people stayed with windows XP because vista was just awful. Now that
Windows 7 is out, xP users are flocking to windows 7. Windows 7 is already
out selling vista in the same period of time as vista.

Also, don't forget Windows 7 has fixed a lot of problems that vista still
has. Not updating to windows 7, is like not taking the next service pack
upgrade to vista.

I hear that window seven is just an extention of vista, what did this person

Hi listers. What are the top 5 anti-virus programs, which, coincidentally,
also happen to be JAWS accessible? Read the following short article, which
appears in today's West Palm Beach News, to find out:

WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- Want the best antivirus protection for your computer?

What could be better than a recommendation from some of the world's best
computer geeks, who have tested the programs themselves.

Our friends at Lifehacker.com recently asked geeks all over the world to
vote for their best antivirus programs, and here's what they came up with.

At the top of the list, with 23% of the votes, is AVG, which offers a free
edition.

Close behind at number two, with 22% of the votes, is Microsoft Security
Essentials, which is free for all Windows users.

Third is ESET NOD32, followed by antivirus programs by Avast! and Avira.

I am writing to ask the following question.
On or about October 23rd of this year, I installed jaws 11 from the freedom

have the following question. If I should ever have to do a repair of jaws
11 for any reason, where in jaws 11 would I go to perform this action
should I need too. As many of you know, there only shipping jaws 11 on cd
rom now, and if you don't have a DVD rom drive like I don't, you won't be

able to install it, unless you do it from there website like I did. So,

Not in jaws 10 and 11, it's built in with the system. I've tried recreating
what's happening to you and can't figure out what might be causing it. I'm
new at this 2 sound card thing so hopefully somebody who's been doing it a

I have to sets of speakers. One is for Jaws, and the other is for the rest

Yes you can. Which sound card is your computer sounds coming out of now?
If it's the external, then do the following to set jaws to the internal.

Press insert j to open the jaws menu.
U for utilities.
O for sound cards.
Pick the eternal sound card from the menu and hit enter.

You should now have your computer sounds on your external, assuming they
were there to start with, and jaws on your internal. If your external isn't
your computer sounds by default, then you need to go into control panel and
set it as the default synth. However, since it was installed after the
internal, it should have done this by default.

You have to set your default sound card for your computer
sounds and then if you are using jaws 10 or 11, do the
following.

press insert j for the jaws menu.
press u for utilities.
Press o for sound cards.
Now arrow down to the sound card that you want jaws to use
and press enter on it.

Bingo, You now have it set to use it's own sound card.

The answer there is, you got all the stuff that works the
sound card to one source. yes, that lets jaws work better.
your box will run much nicer to, because the only thing
using ram now is jaws. Built in stuff eats at ram, because
they give it none of its own. your external card had memorey
so works just fine to make sound good.

I assume that the external sound card is something separate on the outside

Re: [JAWS-Users] 2 sound card observations.

2009-10-24 Thread Jimmy Podsim
You have to set your default sound card for your computer sounds and then if
you are using jaws 10 or 11, do the following.

press insert j for the jaws menu.
press u for utilities.
Press o for sound cards.
Now arrow down to the sound card that you want jaws to use and press enter
on it.

Bingo, You now have it set to use it's own sound card.

In the html settings, I think it's under advanced you can chage it to not
refresh. In IE or fire fox, do insert 6 then alt s then h. It's in there

installed a SB live external. I directed all computer sounds to the sb live

laptop. Nothing spectacular there, however, I have noticed that since doing
this some of the lag in the computer, and a lot of jaws sluggishness has
gone away. I'm wondering if this is a normal result of having a dedicated
sound card for jaws, or if it's more something to do with the configuration
of my computer. What ever the end result is, it's awesome.

If you are using imap instead of pop it will be very sluggish. I just
changed my imap account over to pop and lost a lot of the sluggishness.
Figured the conviance of using more than one computer wasn't as important as
being able to use outlook without the sluggishness. Don't know if this is
what's causing your problem or not, but it's food for thought.

Yes I do know about the money. Somehow the wife and I always seem to manage
to scrape up the money to keep jaws updated. Personally I find the research
it feature a very useful tool and much quicker in finding information.
It's like a news portal, dictionary and encyclopedia at the touch of your
finger tips with just a stroke of a few keys. IE8 and some new programs are
starting to use features that JAWS 10 or lower will not be able to do, so
there is two arguments for...let's see if I can think of more. I have
noticed that IE8's performance and reading is better than it was in 10 and
more things seem to be more accessible on web pages. OH yeah, and the
landmarks feature, even though I haven't tried to figure that one out yet.
Well, maybe there are a couple of ideas that you can use.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws 11

2009-10-07 Thread Jimmy Podsim
For one thing, it supports a lot of the newer features and ways of
programming or coding that are being used in many new sites. Also, there
are things in windows 7 that JAWS 10 can't deal with and JAWS 11 can.

To me, the most important reason to keep a screen reader up to date is
because we want to do what everybody else is doing, and if you stay with
something old that can't access the new technologies that are being used in
programs and on the web, then you are only holding yourself back.

Staying with an older screen reader and wanting to do what others are doing
with the new software is just like wanting to run windows 95 and trying to
install new software. Basically it's to keep up with technology and to be
more productive.

I don't know how it works with jaws 7 on the main facebook site, however,
once your account is set up, there are 2 alternative sites you can use.

The Mobile site, which should work well with jaws 7.
http://m.facebook.com

And then there is their beta site that is much easier to use than the real
site.
http://lite.facebook.com

Note that you already have to have a facebook account for either of these
sites to work. There are many blind people using facebook, but most of them
use the mobile site. The only thing you don't get on the mobile site is the
applications and games.

Is this unusual for sp2 and is there any setting I can change to address the

Hi,

I'm running JAWS 9 on my Netbook running XP Home.

Question 1: JAWS say no links in any folder
When I am in Outlook 2003, when I am in any folder, JAWS will say no
links. In order to see the items, I need to press Function key 6. What
does this Function key do?

Question 2: Not keeping messages on the server
I have set up Outlook to not leave a copy of the message on the
server. However, when I go up to the server, THE MESSAGES ARE STILL
THERE *Yell*. Horror! I have to delete them again.
Not to leave a copy on the server:
The steps I take:
Alt to Tools
Email accounts
Change existing account
Next
More settings
Shift-tab
advance tab
Leave a copy on server (Not check)

Besides here, where else do I need to make the adjustments?

Oh, this same 2 also happened to my laptop which used to JAWS 10
(Gone now) and XP Professional.

 Thank you.

release candidate. There are similar but important differences between the
beta and the RC. One good example is that the beta is a feature complete
(but not ready to be released) version whilst the RC (release candidate) is
essentially a dress rehearsal of what people will see when it's available to
the general public in under a month's time. Hope this clarifies things.

Hi,
You cannot download the windows 7 beta from microsoft anymore, but there are
torrents of it out there, which is where I got mine, this isn't pirated
software, just the w7 beta release that microsoft released a while back, and
it will stop working in March of next year if you don't buy the full
version. you will need a windows live ID also known as a passport ID to get
the registration code from microsoft.
not sure if it will keep your windows settings and all when you install
over a current OS, as I put in a second hard drive and installed it on there
for a dual boot setup, which i highly recommend, so you don't have to worry
about wiping anything out, and you still have access to all your old files,
although if you go this route, you will have to reinstall your programs.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS7.1 & IE8 problem

2009-09-23 Thread Jimmy Podsim
That could be because JAWS 7.1 don't support IE 8. IE 8 supports a lot of
new stuff on web sites, that 7 didn't. JAWS 7 does not have the built in
support for these things. JAWS 10 did a pretty good job with IE 8 but JAWS
11 works even better with it.

"Open parent document button." I cannot locate anything in the add-ons
which look
suspicious. Is this a part of IE8 or how can it be eliminated? As soon
as

she arrows down one time, she is
stuck on the button and cannot read the page or access any links. She is
using JAWS7.1. (Strangely, the JAWS cursor can read the screen but cannot
see
the "Open parent document button" dialog on the screen. With the virtual
cursor, she cannot move anywhere after pressing the down arrow that first

Also, she can't read any menus unless she does a manual 'say line'
command.

I realize that neither IE7 nor IE8 are fully supported by JAWS7.1,
but she got IE8 as an automatic download.

Is this dialog just a part of IE8 or can it be eliminated? BTW, she is
able

to bring up the control-O dialog as a temporary work-around, but cannot
access
the search edit box on her Google home page.

I'm not sure about that, but I do know that they were completely redoing the
files to make them easier to update when changes were made. From what I
understand they will be redoing a lot of the files and we should benefit

1. Hit your start button and tab twice. arrow right twice and then arrow

2. Hit windows m to get to the desktop. do alt f4 and then make your

Hello list,

Just wondering if anyone else has noticed a slight sluggishness when using
jaws 11 as opposed to jfw 10?

I've been switching back and forth between both versions since somethings
like firefox and outlook I'm finding work better with 10.0 and when I'm
using 11, it's as though there's a little hesitation with the reading
commands. Especially in IE8 and in any sort of word processing app. I'm
usually running between 23 and 31 processes at any given time with both
versions. I'm running xp pro and office 2003. Nothing out of the ordinary.

It's nothing drastic, but enough to be noticeable.

I'm just curious if it may just be me.

Thanks,
Cristobal

You will need to do an alt H followed by an x and then a v. I'm not sure
why Jaws doesn't read those types of messages, but this is a common problem.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007 not reading some emails

Hello gang. I'm running Vista home premium, jaws 9 and outlook
2007. I've called FS about this problem as well as emailed them. I haven't
gotten any email response, but the person on the phone couldn't figure out
what I was talking about. I'll get some emails, PCH is one of them where
jaws won't read the emails. It says something about unidentifiable table
and that's all it says besides saying graphic a bunch of times. If I open
the same email in IE then jaws reads the entire thing. This also happens
sometimes when people cut things from a web site and send them to me. Jaws
won't read them in outlook, but it reads them fine in IE. Anybody got any
ideas on how to fix this problem?

Hi Leonard,

The two options are for when it's plugged into the electrical outlet, and
when it's running on battery.

I can't remember off-hand which option is set first in the tab order, but
like I said, one is for battery power options, and the other for when it's
plugged into the wall outlet.

[JAWS-Users] Laptop, sb live external and routing jaws to the sb live

2008-05-23 Thread Jimmy Podsim
Ok guys. I bought a Sound blaster live 24 bit external synth to use for
jaws on my laptop. When installing the card the computer automatically
changed to that card during the install. I then went back and changed
it back to the real tech that's in the laptop. No matter which card I
choose, jaws and the computer sounds go through that card.

We then went to the FS web site and got the info that tells you how to
rout jaws to the other card. We did what it said and then unloaded and
reloaded jaws. At this point jaws said that it couldn't load. We told
it ok, renamed the .bak file we made back to jfw.ini and loaded jaws and
everthing was good again. I'm not sure what we did wrong, but below is
the synth info with the edited line in it. Can anybody see what we did
wrong?

[Synthesizers]
Synth1Name=eloq
Synth1LongName=Eloquence Software
Synth1Driver=eloq
Synth1Port=Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External
Synth2Name=NoSpeech
Synth2LongName=No Speech
Synth2Driver=nospeech
Synth3Name=SAPI 5X
Synth3LongName=SAPI 5
Synth3Driver=sapi5x

Do we need to add that line also after no speach and sappy 5?
