Re: [JAWS-Users] Finding Out Which Synthesizer and Voice I'm Using

2018-05-06 Thread Margaret Thomas

I'm not finding a person combo box for either Eloquence or Vocalizer.

I found a page on the FS/VFO site to download the Vocalizer voices for J
18, but am not finding a sample of the voices which I think would be
nice to have before downloading.

Am I missing something? It's been a long day.

Thank you. Eloquence it is. There is also a Vocalizer voice. How can I
tell which voices (persons) they are. is there more than the one Vocalizer
voice?

Hi.

If you have never changed anything with respect to this, you are
indeed likely using Eloquence. You can check by going to the JAWS
options menu (jaws key + j), and moving to "voice settings". In this
dialog you will see the current voice profile you are using, but also
other voice settings like pitch, which is controllable in Eloquence
but not the newer vocalizer synthesizer, which uses actual voice samples.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Scripts For JAWS & Thunderbird

2013-11-24 Thread Margaret Thomas
Yes, it works without scripts and I've been using Thunderbird for
months, but I find it clunkier than OE. For example, if memory serves,
with OE there were far fewer keystrokes needed to move a message from
one folder to another. The competition has an app that allowed for
first letter navigation in the folder list and some other time-saving
features, but they no longer work here with the last couple of releases
of Thunderbird and the new version of WE.

If you've been able to find text in an open Thunderbird message using
JAWS, would you please share the secret?

Thunderbird support page at:

https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-searching?s=finding+text&as=s

says:

Version 8 and later

As of Thunderbird version 8, the following keystrokes are assigned to
search functions:

• Search All Messages (Global Search): Ctrl + K
• Quick Filter Bar (filter messages in current view): Ctrl + Shift + K
• Search for messages in a folder (search dialog): Ctrl + Shift + F
• Find text in current message: Ctrl + F
• Find again in current message: Ctrl + G or F3
• Find previous in current message: Ctrl + Shift + G or Shift + F3

I can perform global searches and search within a folder, but finding
text in a message is still defying me. It will go to the end of the
text, but I can't get JAWS to read it with the current line or to go
forward or back or do anything with it. I wrote to FS ages ago and the
tech support person who answered either didn't know or said it couldn't
be done.

Thunderbird works better for my needs than when I tried WLM and Outlook
2010 months ago and I'm probably just missing something simple that
would make it work even better for me and I welcome new tricks to be
able to make peace with it.

Bob,

Thanks for the idea, but
routing JAWS to PC and arrowing doesn't help. When I first tried the

Siobhan,

Thank you. I upgraded to IE 9 before reading all the information about
JAWS 14 and downloaded a book to be sure I knew how since I thought I
remembered that downloading was a bit different in IE 9 and everything
went well. By the time I finished reading all the information about the
new JAWS, I must have tired out my brain since my original thought was
that the 64 bit version of JAWS 14 was for a 64 bit machine and I hit
enter. Nothing happened and I tried the 32 bit one. Once again nothing
happened and the page didn't change. I routed JAWS to virtual PC and
was still on the same page. Finally, the light dawned and I remembered
that it was IE 9 and I figured that, since all my synapses were not in
good working order, that double checking which version I wanted might be
a good idea. Smile.

I got J14 installed and will take a break before trying to get
everything to my liking.

Thanks again,

[JAWS-Users] Format/Navigation Problems in Word 2007 Documents

2012-08-21 Thread Margaret Thomas

Good Afternoon,

I have at least three Word 2007 .doc document that seem to have
developed the same kind of problem. There is
at least one place in all three document where JAWS 13.0.1006 will say
page 49 or whatever on one line and page 51 when I arrow down. If I do
a Control F for find for text in the "skipped" page, Word finds it.

One particular pesky document is about three pages in which I make note of
appointments and other events. There is a place in the document where
JAWS won't down arrow down past when I'm arrowing down
from the top and won't arrow up past when I go from the very bottom to
the top.

Page up and Page Down won't go past the problem area either. JAWS won't say
anything either way after/the problem area and moving from top to bottom
is like
there is nothing more in the document. Control Home and Control End
work to take
me to the top and bottom of the document and read to end reads the
entire document.
All the problem documents began life on my XP machine before my tech
transferred them to the Win 7 when I got it. The layout on all three
seems to be print at 75%. The documents are maximized and I've rebooted

several times since I noticed the problems.
It dawned on me that I might have somehow started a second column at the
problem
point, but I don't know how to verify it and sighted assistance isn't
available to

look at the documents.

The 2007 ribbons are there, but I'm willing to switch to
the JAWS virtual ribbons. I'm running 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium.

I got a suggestion "Try copying the document into NotePad and then copy
the NotePad document
back to Word" but it didn't fix the problem in the appointments
document. I copied the document in
notepad and had word wrap checked and saved it under another name as a
.txt file.
I copied it and pasted it in a new Word document. When I arrow down, I
hear page
1 and page 3 on the next line. I repeated the process and tried it with
line wrap
not checked and saved it with a different name as a .txt file. It is
again saying
page 1 and page 3 at the next line at the problem spot. It goes from
events in May
straight to November ones and arrowing down there's no mention of any of
the months

in between. However, if I do a Control F for find Labor Day, Word finds it.

Any help getting these straightened out will be greatly appreciated.

Margaret

helpful. Raul A. Gallegos did two for Main Menu. He uses Window-Eyes,
but JAWS users can still get a good deal from the podcasts since he
gives keystrokes and information Gene doesn't. The last one I found
helpful and is the most recent is one GW Micro did in October of 2011.
JAWS users can also get additional information from it. I'm having
computer trouble and will have to look up the URLs when the 'puter is
behaving better, but maybe you can find them in the mean time.

There's a list for blind Thunderbird and Firefox users. Send a blank
message to:

blind-mozilla-subscr...@yahoogroups.com

I'd also be interested in how to tell Thunderbird to check for mail on a
set schedule.

Hope this helps,

Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Alternatives to Eloquence for JAWS 12 and 13

2011-11-20 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I’ve got a bit of a hearing problem and am having very bad problems with
Eloquence on my new Windows 7 machine with JAWS 12 and 13 and really hope
there’s some alternative that would suit my needs better. I vastly prefer the
GW Micro version of DEC-Talk Access 32 that I purchased years ago and ran on my
XP Home computer, but my understanding is that it isn’t compatible with the
newer versions of JAWS. What alternatives are possible these days? I’ll
happily pay for any voices that I like and work better for me.

Thank you,

Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem Activating JAWS 13

2011-11-14 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

For now, JAWS 13 is activated. I lost speech on the Windows 7 machine and
wasn’t able to get it back. I booted up and was greeted with no speech. At
some point, something clicked in my brain and I remembered that maybe I had to
tell J13 not to start automatically and got 12 loaded and then 13. J13 almost
immediately gave me the message to the effect of your FS product is authorized
for a previous version. If you have purchased an update to this version,
activate now. I followed the steps and the activation was successful. I
haven’t the foggiest notion why the activation succeeded this time. I hope it
sticks.

Thanks to everyone who helped and I hope everyone gets their activation issues
sorted out.

Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Problem Activating JAWS 13

2011-11-13 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I got JAWS 13 installed on the Win 7 machine, but only in 40 minute mode. I
downloaded it from the FS site and, when I inserted the authorization disk,
was greeted with an auto play dialogue that I’ve never seen before and I don’t
know if my inability to use it properly had anything to do with the activation
error I received later on in the process. I think it said the number was
invalid. How is the thing supposed to be dealt with? Other than uninstalling
and starting over with the J13 CD/DVD, how do I try again? Will J13 run on XP
Home? At least maybe I can find out if the authorization disk is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mike,

Thank you. I think I’ll give JAWS 13 a try. Is Dr. Phil’s couch comfortable?
I’ll need a lot of time on it! It seems like on a good day I’m taking one step
forward and only one backward instead of two or three. I’ll get there. Rome

we can get better group discounts! LOL LOL

Oh, I'm running Windows7 Home Premium, the 32 bit version but, I don't think
that will make any difference. Take care.

Brian and All,

Thank you for the clear instructions. I got Microsoft Security Essentials in
the notification area/sys tray on the Windows 7 machine. I don't have
Carbonite on my desktop and I wasn't able to find it using the search box. I
have a feeling that, for some reason, it didn't get installed on the new
machine and I'll have to look into it. I think all the important stuff is now
accounted for or soon will be.

A big thanks to everyone who helped me get the notification area sorted out.

Hi Margaret,

Press the Windows key and type the word Notification in the search box. Use
down arrow to the result that says "Show or hide the notification icons on
the taskbar and press enter key. Use tab key across the controls. You will
find combo boxes for choosing between three actions that can be used for
various programs. The "Microsoft Security Client User Interface" item is
the item that will let you choose whether or not the Microsoft Security
Essentials program shows an icon in the notification area. Each combo box
has three choices: 1. Show icon in notifications, 2. Hide icon in
notifications, 3. Only show notifications. Use up and down arrow keys in
the combo boxes to make the choice you want. Tab to the OK button and use
it to save your changes and exit.

Take care.

Rick Justice:

Open the start menu, and type the following in the search box:

In the results, you should find, notification area icons, make sure that

When the dialogue opens, you will probably hear Jaws say, okay button, so
just tab until you get into the list of applications.
Each time you tab, you will be on a different application, and using the up
and down arrows will select the behavior of that icon.
When you have finished making your changes, simply tab to the okay button,
and press enter to close the dialogue.

but programs like Carbonite, Microsoft Security Essentials, etc. aren't
listed when I tab. There's something about Microsoft Security Center, but I
didn't want to fool with it since I wasn't sure what it was. Is it possible
that they might show up in the notification area if I do the show all icons

might not have chosen the show in sys tray item. I called him right as he

maybe they posted to some tech forum to solve some issue with my machine.

I'm running JAWS 12 on the Win 7.

Re: [JAWS-Users] OE's Advanced Find in Windows Live Mail 2011

2011-10-24 Thread Margaret Thomas
David,

Thank you very much for your instructions. However, I'm still not able to get
it to work the way it is supposed to. I'm getting no results when I know there
are some since there are messages in the message list view for the date ranges
I've tried. I tried doing it in another folder just in case there was
something odd going on with the In-Box and didn't have any luck there either.
I tried seeing if having the window maximized might help, but it said not
available , so it was already maximized. I've tried it with alt-c which used
to work in OE to get right to the date section after pressing Control-Shift-F
and tabbing through until I got to it and neither way made any difference. The
frustrating thing is that alt-h for attachment has a proper check box here. I
don't know if maybe labeling graphics might help?

Thank you,

Margaret

For both received before and after:
1. By default the check box is unchecked.
2. Spacebar toggles the state of the check box, but Jaws does not read it's
state.
3. You can tell whether it's checked by pressing left arrow or right arrow: if
unchecked, then nothing happens; if checked then you cycle round the three
fields of the date and the checkbox.
4. With one of the date fields being the focus, you can change it either by
typing in a new number, or by using up arrow or down arrow, though when using
the arrow keys Jaws doesn't read the changed number. However you can read the
whole date by pressing insert + up arrow.

best wishes,
David.

Hi All,

I use Advanced Find (Control-Shift-F in the message list view in Outlook
Express a bunch of times every day and I was very much hoping I could use the
same feature, or something like it in
Windows Live Mail 2011 on my Windows 7 computer. Some of the items that can be
found that I've tried so far to find seem to be working the same and properly
except the part for dates. JAWS 12 does not seem to be indicating check boxes
for the dates so they can be checked to be able to work with the dates to find
the range.

In Outlook Express the sequence is:

1. Start from the message list view in OE.
2. Press Control-Shift-F. JAWS says Look in and you can find items in a
particular folder or in local folders so all folders are searched. I happened
to be in the JAWS users folder when I started my date search and, just for
example, I want to search for all posts in my jaws users folder received today.
3. Press alt c to start the date search. JAWS says received after and
something that sounds like day time ticker. October 21 twenty eleven check box
not checked
4. Press space bar to check the check box. JAWS says checked.
5. Tab one time. JAWS says received before day time ticker October 21 twenty
eleven check box not checked.
6. Press space bar to check the check box. JAWS says checked.
7. Press enter. JAWS says list view and the messages are listed.

The dates can be navigated so you can check for different ranges such as from
the beginning of the year to the present date and combined with sender,
subject, if there's an attachment etc.

It's working properly with JAWS 10 and 12 on the XP Home, but JAWS 12 doesn't
seem to be indicating the check boxes on the 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium machine.
I don't know if they need to be labeled and, if so, which graphics should be
labeled.

I'd love to get my old friend working on the new machine or learning of another
way of accomplishing the same thing if it can't.

Any help some kind soul can offer would be absolutely wonderful!

2011-10-22 Thread Margaret Thomas
David,

I gather you are replying to my question about the equivalent of Advanced Find
in Windows Live Mail 2011. So far, I'm not getting your instructions to work.
JAWS is not saying the status as checked with Control right arrow and is only
saying the date or part of the date. I've been able to change the dates, but
the results are not accurate, so I think the items really aren't checked. I
did a search in my In-Box for messages received from October 20, 2011 to
October 22, 2011 and I knew there were some, but 0 items were found. I played
with the dates some and was able to come up with something of switching to JAWS
cursor and left clicking on the graphic to the left of received after,
switching back to PC, tabbing once, switching to JAWS cursor and left clicking
on the graphic just to the left of received before, switching back to PC, and
hitting enter. Six messages for my October 20, 2011 to October 22, 2011 search
turned up which should have been about right. I'll work more on it later since
I need a break and could be missing something with your instructions.

Hello there;

Although jaws doesn't say check or unchecked for the following;
In windows live mail;
After pressing ctrl+shift+f,
Now tab for example until you hear;

Received before: 10/22/2011
By default the box is unchecked,
So, if you press the spacebar, the box then becomes checked,
If you then press ctrl+right arrow jaws will read the status as checked.

thought WLM 2011 didn't have first letter navigation in the folders list or

OE messages to go into WLM 2011. For example, I have an OE folder for posts

letter navigation is pretty painless. I'm dreading the thought of all those
down arrow presses to get to a "W" folder in WLM2011 and have been trying to
think how I can consolidate my existing 34 folders into something like a
half dozen in addition to the default ones Microsoft gives such as In-box.
I've been happily working with all my OE folders for years and I'm not
relishing the thought of having to remember a new slimmed down fol
der list!

Thank you,

Jaws support's all the structure in the program's interface, but it takes

[JAWS-Users] Strange Items Appearing in Windows 7 System Tray/Notification Area

2011-10-19 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

The system tray/notification area on my 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium machine
contains items that are totally different from those in the sys tray on my XP
Home computer and items that should be there like JAWS, Microsoft Security
Essentials, Carbonite, etc. are not showing.

Select a System Tray Icon graphic 798
Solve PC issues: 2 messages Right Single ClickFully charged (100%)
Network 2 Internet access
Speakers: 100% Left Single Click
Left Double Click

is what's there now.

There was a thread here last week where someone said that JAWS was not showing
in their sys tray and the responses, which I saved, seemed to indicate that
each item needs to have its behavior customized individually. I'm not sure if
my problem would be solved the same way and wanted to ask here before I did
anything. Does anyone know what in the world the "Solve PC issues: 2 messages"
comes from? All I can think of is that MSN was the home page when my tech
delivered the computer. Installing programs and set up is part of their paid
service with the purchase of new machines and maybe they posted to some tech
forum to solve some issue with my machine.

I'm running JAWS 12 on the Win 7.

I greatly appreciate everyone's patience with all my questions!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing Verbosity Level to Advanced in JAWS 12Re:Changing How JAWS 12 Says ListNamesinWLM2011Headings

2011-10-19 Thread Margaret Thomas
Mike and All,

I tried the steps again and it worked as expected. It was set on advanced, so
my efforts of the previous night must have worked. I don't know why JAWS was
still speaking all the excess verbiage that goes with beginner level after I
had changed verbosity level and rebooted, but will chalk it up to just one of
those things that makes life with computers interesting.

I did find the What's New in JAWS 12 .mp3 and the one for the Settings Center
and got the former downloaded to the Win 7, but couldn't get it transferred to
my player. The other one was a total bust and I couldn't even get it
downloaded. IE 8 is on the Win 7, so the procedure should be the same. I'll
work on it more today.

Thanks again to you and David.

Hi margaret,

When I right arrow to open speech verboscity & arrow down 1 time I get,
verboscity level, beginner highest. This is where you press the spacebar
until you hear advanced then, tab to apply, tab to okay & press enter /
spacebar. But, if you arrow down 2 times you get, configure verboscity
levels, & if you right arrow to open this, you will hear beginner.!

I did notice that applying the changes was necessary before okaying them to
make the changes hold.

Let us know if you have any more problems or if you were able to make your

JAWS Just says beginner. Pressing space once results in Application Start

something about intermediate with a second press saying advanced. I did see
a button to restore defaults, but didn't choose it.

When I didn't get the expected results, I decided to see if JAWS 12 was
still saying dot dot dot after basic etc. and it just said basic. Maybe the
JAWS fairies went to work overnight. I know I rebooted last night before I
sent my post.

With 12, how can I check the verbosity level? I think I saw something in
the training section on working with the new setting center and it might be
worth a listen. I'll take a look for it and the other 12 training materials

Hi,

If you're using the 2011 version of windows live mail, then the graphics which
indicate unread, attachment, etc are not labeled by default. Hopefully, this
will be fixed soon in an update to jaws 12. However, you can label these
manually

yourself, as follows:
1. Open windows live mail.
2. Normally, Jaws is set not to read any unlabeled graphics. To temporarily
change this setting so that it reads them, so that you can find them and label
them: press insert+v to open the adjust jaws options dialog; press G until you
get to the item Graphics - labeled; press spacebar to cycle to the next option
for this setting which is graphics - all, and then press enter to press the
default close button.
3. When jaws reads a message in the message list, it now reads each unlabeled
graphic as graphic followed by a number, and these all occur before the senders
name. The graphic to label as unread is graphic 656. Other unlabeled graphics
include graphic 160 which indicates attachment, and if you use the conversation
view, then graphics 563 and 105 indicate
collapsed and expanded respectively. Note that graphic 294 indictates a read
message, and you'll probably want to leave this graphic unlabeled.
4. To label a graphic, for example graphic 656 as unread: move to a message in
the list which is unread, that is jaws says graphic 656 when reading it; press
insert + numpad minus to route the jaws cursor to the pc cursor - this places
the jaws cursor at the beginning of the senders name; press left arrow till you
get to graphic 656; press insert + g to open the graphics labeler dialog; the
initial focus is a label edit box, with the text graphic 656 selected; type
unread, and the press enter to press the default ok button.
5. Repeat step 4 to label any other unlabeled graphics that you want to label.
6. If you close and reopen windows live mail, the jaws setting for reading
graphics will have returned to just reading labeled graphics.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Changing How JAWS 12 Says List Names inWLM2011Headings

2011-10-17 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I tried making changes in voices again and may have finally gotten it. JAWS
seems to also no longer be saying colon after fwd and parentheses before and
after another list that uses parentheses instead of brackets in the subject
field which I also wanted to accomplish. I apparently wasn't successful in
getting JAWS 12 changed to Advanced since it is saying dot dot dot after Basics
etc., but any progress is good.

Thanks to everyone who is helping me tame the new beast.

Margaret

Earlier, I wrote:

item in the Settings Center yet to make it permanent. Changing the setting in
voice in options with Insert-J that I understood to be another list member's
suggestion didn't seemed to have worked, but I might have messed up.

I'm pretty sure while I was looking in the Settings Center that I was able to
change verbosity to Advanced, which was one of the things I wanted to do.

I'm going to take a break.

Any more instructions for making the change permanent would be great.

Margaret, let me try and help.
In jaws 12 and 13 you will need to use the new configuration facility.
1. While in your "in box", hold down the insert key and press the letter "v"
as in victor.
2. you are in the quick settings tree view. down arrow through the various
controls and when you get to a control you think you need to change, tab
once to read the jaws help. Usually, if you want to change an item, you
enter on it to check or uncheck an item.
see if this helps.

Trying to switch from XP Home to 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium with a new
version of JAWS, a different e-mail client , synth, and new keyboard at the
same time has totally fried my brain and I need some help please with
something that should be simple.

In Windows Live Mail 2011 and JAWS 12 with Eloquence, JAWS is speaking
brackets, parentheses, etc. in the names of lists that appear in the subject
field and, at least for now, I'd like to hear only the names without the
extraneous symbols being spoken.

For example, JAWS says
left bracket JAWS dash users right bracket in the subject field for this
list. For now, only hearing

JAWS Users

would make me very happy. I think I have Advanced Verbosity set, but I
can't remember if brackets, parentheses are included in punctuation or not.
I know I used to be able to use the JAWS dictionary to have list names not
speak at all, but I want to see how it goes hearing them minus the
extraneous stuff. Do I still do it with the JAWS dictionary or is there
some setting somewhere to accomplish it? JAWS 10 on the XP home is saying
it the way I prefer

Any help would be appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Got Activation Count Increased Re: JAWS License

2011-08-18 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I had complained the other day that FS hadn't increased my JAWS activation
count even though I was eligible for one according to the activation page on
the FS site. I wanted an increase since my new computer should arrive soon.

I'm happy to be able to report that the story seems to finally have a happy
ending. I filled out the form again this morning and, this time, got a message
from FS very soon afterwards that my count had been increased. That also
answered the question the tech support person didn't know as to whether we are
supposed to hear about whether or not an increase request has been granted.

Margaret

Previously, I wrote:

the 3 activations thing although I confess I hadn't made the mental equation of

was down to one after my sound card had to be replaced a couple weeks ago and
the short version is that FS didn't seem to have increased my count after
filling out the online form and requesting an increase when I had to talk to an
FS tech support person about something else and I'll really need an increase
with the new computer coming soon.

Steve,

I apologize if I inadvertently worded my post so as to create confusion. I
mentioned the speed I normally seem to get downloading NLS titles only because
that's about the only speed I know I get and it is between two in the combo box
for one of the items Mike mentioned in setting up Adobe X to best work with
JAWS.

I don't remember seeing anything about choosing your ISP's speed in previous
versions of Adobe Reader and I don't know why Adobe should care or needs to
know.

I got Adobe Reader updated to X and am trying to get it configured to work best

get to the step 6 about choosing the speed. Cox is my ISP I know that when I

Hi Kerry,

Try the following;

the latest version is Adobe Reader X.

You need to disable protected view first to get it to work well with Jaws.

  Do the following:

  1. From either your desktop or start menu, press enter on Adobe. The
Adobe window is now open, press control + K, to open preferences. Another
way to
get to preferences is after pressing enter on the Adobe shortcut, press Alt
+ E, for the edit menu, arrow up to preferences, & press enter.

3. When preferences opens you will be in a tree view and should be on the
General page, if not arrow up or down until you have General highlighted.
It
is #4 of 29. Tab until you find a checkbox called enable protected mode at
startup, uncheck it, choose yes on the warning you will get to continue.

You need to look at 2 more settings so, tab until you have General
highlighted again.

4. With General highlighted, press the letter I, until you have Internet
highlighted.

5. Tab to, Display PDF in browser, if this box is checked press the spacebar
to uncheck it.

6. Tab to connection speed combobox, arrow up / down for the setting that
best matches your Internet Providers speed.

7. Tab to the okay button, press enter to close preferences & save your
changes, & press Alt + F4 to close Adobe.

If I have missed something or if there is something that should be added,
would someone please jump in & correct me?!

Hope this helps. Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Not Talking on Boot Up

2011-08-02 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi Mike,

I had to unplug my computer yesterday after I had the remote session with my
tech since big thunderstorms were predicted and couldn't talk to FS about the
activation problem with JAWS 9 until this morning.

The support person originally said he thought maybe my fire wall was blocking
the activation or that the activation number was wrong and I had a bit of
trouble telling him that JAWS 12 installed without a problem, but he finally
seemed to understand my problem and agreed that it was "weird," He didn't
suggest the fix your friend was given, but said he thought just uninstalling J9
would do the trick. I did it when we finished the conversation and JAWS 10
doesn't seem to be hollering to be activated.

I mentioned having requested my activations be reset to the full number after
the replacement sound card was installed the weekend before last and he said he
could reset it to 3 and I could hear him typing. He didn't know if a
confirmation message is supposed to be sent out. I checked a while ago and the
web site still said I had 1 activation. I don't know if it takes time to
become effective.

Thanks for helping,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,

A friend of ours had this same problem with Jaws9. The fix for this
problem, at least this is what we were told by FS tech support, was to run
Jaws9 as a service but, in order to do this, Jaws9 has to be the Jaws
version that starts when the computer / Windows starts. When you installed
/ authorized Jaws12, that should have authorized Jaws12 & all earlier Jaws
versions that are installed on the computer. When you ask to have your
activation keys renewed, they usually only give you 1 activation key now,
where in the past they used to give you your limit of all 3. If I am
incorrect or have misstated anything here, someone please jump in & correct
me. Hope this helps. Take care.
Mike
P.S. You should probably call FS tech support to talk to them about this
Jaws9 problem, just in case something has changed since the time I talked to
them about our friends' problem with the program.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Not Talking on Boot Up

2011-08-02 Thread Margaret Thomas
Doris and All,

I'm probably about as set as I'm going to be. JAWS 10 does not seem to want to
run as a service on this machine and at least now seems to be coming up talking
after system boot up. I tried copying the JAWS 10 icon on my desktop to my
startup folder as a temporary solution as you suggested and thought it had been
successful to at least have J 10 come up talking at some point. It wasn't
doing it 100% of the time, though and somehow, my efforts without sighted
assistance available apparently resulted in the OE menu bar being moved. I'd
thought something was blocking My Desktop and had planned on calling my tech
for a remote session anyway, but the new OE problem made that essential.

He didn't find anything blocking My Desktop, but I did see something one time,
but wasn't able to determine what it was. I vastly prefer DEC-Talk Access 32
to Eloquence and another tech at his shop has seen the screen I think is
causing the problem and he thought it had something to do with DEC-Talk Access
32, but hadn't heard of it and wasn't sure.

The remote session with my tech got J10 talking after boot up and I had to wait
until this morning to call FS about the activation problem with J9 because of
threatened severe thunder storms.

The FS support guy thought the activation problem was "weird," so seemed to
agree with all of us here about that. He thought uninstalling JAWS 9 probably
wouldn't cause J10 to decide it wanted to be activated since it would then be
the earliest version. He tried to encourage me to uninstall JAWS 9 and 10. I
didn't have any problem uninstalling J9 as long as it didn't create more
activation problems, but I'm almost positive that 10 is the last JAWS version I
can continue to have my beloved DEC-Talk Access 32 run on.

After I hung up, I got 9 uninstalled and 10 doesn't seem to demand to be
activated, so I'm happy.

Margaret

The new soundcard would be the reason your older jaws want to be activated.

for a fix until you can get your activation problem sorted out next
week, you can copy the shortcut from your desktop for the version of
jaws you want to run - and that is activated - into your startup
folder. This will give you speech automatically once your desktop is
loaded. It is not quite the same as loading jaws as a service but
should do the trick unless you need to have jaws speak at the logon screen.

jaws is way too picky about hardware changes with its activation. You
might want to look into getting a hardware dongle to avoid such
problmes - or see if the free nvda isn't sufficientfor what you need
to do on the computer.

the mouse. We did a remote session with my tech and he couldn't get it talking
either. When he heard about the blue screen error message, he said that it had
happened to a lot of local computers lately due to frequent lightning strikes
in the area. He concluded that the sound card needed to be replaced and came
over the next day and put in a replacement sound card. He installed JAWS 12
from the CD while he was here.

Part of the problem is that when I unload JAWS 10 to load J9 to go into basics
or whatever they called it then to tell J9 not to load on startup, before I can
press JAWS key-J, JAWS almost immediately says Activate button and wants to be
activated.

Currently, there are icons on My Desktop for JAWS, 9, 10, and 122. J11 has not
been installed.

It's been a long week and any more suggestions would be extremely appreciated.

Margaret

Dear Miss Margaret,

You should not have to activate your jaws 9.0 in order to turn off
the "run jaws first" option in it.

when it comes up after boot up and asks to be activated, have it run
in 40-minute mode instead. This is plenty of time to go into its
basic options and to uncheck the "run first jaws" (or run jaws at
windows startup" or whatever it is called these days.

when you have unchecked the option in jaws 9, tab to the "OK" tutton,
enter on it. then close out jaws 9 and bring up jaws 10 or whatever
version you want to have coming up when you start your computer. go
into its options and and check the checkbox to have it start
automatically. This should fix the problem.

I can only guess to the reason why your jaws 9 wants to be activated
when your 10 is working fine. Did you by any chance get a new jaws
license in between so that the newer jaws maybe has a diferent
serial number? You cold check the serial number - not the long
activation code) when you bring up the different versions to fix the
automatic startup. This is just a wild guess, though.

good luck and keep us posted!

Cheers,

Doris

Raymond and All,

Activating 9, which was the one that wanted to be activated failed. I got an
error message:

Client Activator
Error Code: 52500
You have received this message due to one of the following possibilities:
- You are not connected to the Internet. Check your connection and try again.
- Your 20-digit Authorization number is typed incorrectly. Check for spaces or
incorrect characters and try again.
- The Freedom Scientific server may be experiencing temporary difficulties.
Try again later.
- You have canceled registration.
If you continue to experience this problem, point your Internet browser to
www.FSActivate.com and follow the instructions to retrieve an Activation
License Code that will activate your product.

I'm connected to the Internet.

www.freedomscientific.com

loads.

The 20 digit number came up from the activation disk.

I have not knowingly canceled registration.
My remaining activation count just now from

www.FSActivate.com

is 1. When I requested more last weekend, the form wanted my e-mail address,
but I never heard from FS that they've approved or rejected the request.

I think I'll have to contact FS on Monday, but does anybody have any ideas in
the mean time? I don't think I Can remember the last I ran JAWS 9. I can
uninstall it, but I'm afraid JAWS 10 will decide it needs to be activated.

Thanks,

Margaret

2011-07-30 Thread Margaret Thomas
Al,

No, as of the last time I tried it, none of the versions speak before or right
after boot up. I get the Windows start up sound, which isn't the one I had set
and no speech. I've been able to get Jaws talking by use of the JAWS short cut
key. I double checked after my original post and the box for JAWS 10 to start
automatically is checked and the one for JAWS 12 to start automatically is
unchecked. I didn't try to see what JAWS 9 is set for due to the fact that
that it keeps wanting to be activated when I unload one of the other versions
and load it and I already performed the procedure the other day and it still
starts in 40 minute mode. I can try it again if anyone thinks it will help.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws 10 Not Talking on Boot Up

Hi All,

I've had a problem for at least a week now with my XP Home
with SP 3 and JAWS 10 not talking on boot up. JAWS 9 and 12
are also installed. I think that something happened somehow
and the box to have JAWS 10 load automatically refuses to
stay checked since I know I've checked it at least twice and
the check mark won't stay put. I've clicked okay when I'm
finished. Another thought I had was that maybe 2 versions
both were checked to load automatically and I've tried to
look at all three to make sure only one version is set to
automatically load. The first time I unloaded 10 and
clicked on 9 on My Desktop I got a message to begin
activation. I've had a licensed copy of 9 for years and all
my copies of JAWS since 3.x have been licensed. I didn't
understand what was happening, but inserted my activation CD
for Jaws 8 and it said activation was successful. I had a
sighted person here this morning to let me know if anything
wanted to be upgraded and the message was preventing JAWS
from starting. He updated Adobe Flash Player and we got the
automatically load JAWS 10 box checked. I went to check
what the status for 9 was and got the same message about
activation being required. He had to leave soon and I
figured that going through the activation process again was
an exercise in futility and that it was time to ask for
help.

My tech installed JAWS 12 from the CD when he was replacing
the sound card after a blue screen error and he wasn't able
to get it back via a remote session and he'd reached the
conclusion that the sound card was kaput I updated 12 to the
latest version. I've unchecked automatically start 12
several times and I swear it changes back and unchecks 10.
Since the problem didn't start until JAWS 12 was installed,
I thought I'd uninstall it and maybe 9 as well since it
seems to have had a nervous breakdown. Does it matter if
JAWS 9 or 12 is uninstalled first? Does anyone have any
idea why 9 keeps wanting to be activated? I had one
activation remaining after the replacement sound card was
installed and requested my full limit on the FS activation
page.

Any help straightening out this mess would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Margaret

Subject: (BlindTech) There Is HOPE For Pandora

Greetings Folks,

With the very recent initial software release of a truly wonderful Pandora
third party interface known as: HOPE, a blind-friendly approach for Pandora,
we are now on equal footing with all of the other Pandora Radio listeners
out there.

For the uninitiated, Pandora Radio, found at:

http://www.pandora.com

is a very innovative web site, that seeks to allow users to set up various
radio stations, based on their musical preferences, both by individual
artist and or specific genres.

The Pandora radio site is almost completely unusable by blind folks with
screen reading technology, as they rely on Adobe's extensive use of Flash
technology, to deliver all of the usable web content and adjustments to
account options and the music player.

Pandora is much more than just a radio or music web site that actually finds
music based upon your specific and wide ranging solutions but I do not feel
like writing all of that crap out. I am not nearly as good as my friend Hap
Holly, is at spinning a good yarn.

Basically, the visually impaired developer of Qwitter, a third party
application layer gateway for the popular social networking site, Twitter,
has gone and done it again with his extremely unique approach to Pandora.
Based on some Python programming skills, and some excellent use of the
Pandora very secret XML technology, he has made a completely accessible
interface to the Pandora site...

It is $10.00 which seems to be a one time purchase for as many updates as he
can try to write, before his fingers fall off.

The developer, Chris Toth has made a truly usable interface to Pandora. Once
you configure a few stations, either based on artist or genre, you will
never listen to Internet radio quite the same way again. No commercials, no
speaking in between the tracks, just good music of all styles.

Pandora uses your suggestions to essentially pick songs and artists in or
close to the same musical style or genre/sound.

It is unbelievable!!!

Chris with his HOPE application has made the Pandora experience completely
blind-friendly by eliminating having to even use the Pandora site.

A blind user cannot even independently create their initial account on the
Pandora's.com web site. With H O P E, all all all things are usable and all
account creation, and all of the same interactions that a sighted user would
experience, have been built directly into Pandora's third party gateway, H O
P E.

The H O P E program can be found at:

http://q-continuum.net/hope/

I want everyone who is interested to visit Chris's site, and ask him
questions and of course purchase the program to further the development of
HOPE.

Believe me, from a fellow who has used Pandora since 2006, his program was
well worth waiting for.

Check it out, and hope you enjoy the accessible experience that HOPE brings
to Pandora.com

If anyone wants to contact the Pandora support staff, in case they have
questions or want to purchase for 36 bucks per year, a unlimited listening
experience, please e-mail:

supp...@pandora.com

The subscription process is only technically open to U.S. subscribers,
unless, you happen to have a proxy gateway to make it look like you are in
fact in the U.S. That is another discussion for another time...

I understand that there are scripts out there to make Pandora accessible. If
that is true, where do you get them, and how do you install them, and most
of all, do they work? I am running windows 7, jaws 12, latest update on a 64

[JAWS-Users] Script for Creative Media Lite

2010-06-07 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I was wondering if someone could send me a copy of the JAWS script Brian
Hartgen wrote for
Creative Media Lite or tell me where a copy might be had?

I'm not finding it on his web site, where I think I originally found it. I
e-mailed him last week, but he might be out of the office and I haven't
heard back.

I looked on the jaws-users and blind-computing sites and didn't see it.

I have it on my JAWS 7.0 or 7.1 and would like to put it on 10, but I seem
to be having a "brain freeze" and can't find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Downloading and Installing RealSpeak Solo Voices

2010-04-15 Thread Margaret Thomas
Good Morning,

I listened to the samples of a couple of the RealSpeak Solo Voices on the FS
site and would like to try them. The instructions:

If you like the voice and you want to use it, press DOWN ARROW to move to
the Download link, and then press ENTER. The installation will begin, the
voice files will be placed in the proper location on your computer, and the
voice will be configured for use with your Freedom Scientific product.

http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/RealSpeak-Solo-Direct-Voices/RealSpeak-Solo-Direct-Downloads.asp

should be perfectly clear, but I'm having one of those days when my brain is
made of cotton candy. When I hit enter on the download link I get the usual
run or save question. If the installation is supposed to start, do I choose
run or save? If it is save, it seems their instructions leave out a couple
steps.

Thanks,

Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Peapod and JAWS 10

2008-11-08 Thread Margaret Thomas
Marilyn and All,

Another JAWS user also hadn't had the duplicate images before the first Beta
of JFW 10. A Window-Eyes user didn't get them with the latest release of
WE. This leads me to believe it's JAWS 10. I had filed bug reports with FS
for Beta 1 and 2, but now that 10 is final, I can contact technical support.
I talked to Peapod about the Betas, but I haven't contacted them since JAWS
10 became final and I'm planning on doing that after the weekend.

The duplicate images are irritating since the site isn't well designed
before and is one of those where the edit box and buy are above the name of
the item and I think sighted users don't get a natural flow either, but it
was doable with some patience and concentration. No longer being able to
delete items now really bugs me since the list of items I've ordered is
going to get bigger. Some were mistakes and some I no longer order and it
gets really cluttered with all those duplicate images.

I've tried routing JAWS to PC and I'm pretty sure I've tried the JAWS
cursor, but will spend more time on it. I got my order in, and can work
more with the site without having the frustration of trying to order items.

Good luck with your grocery delivery site!

Have you tried to reroute the jaws cursor and see if there is more info that

[JAWS-Users] Peapod and JAWS 10

2008-11-08 Thread Margaret Thomas
  Hi All,

  I've been buying groceries from

  www.peapod.com

for over 3 years now and I've been having problems with the site since
installing the first Beta of JAWS 10.

My biggest problem is that I'm now unable to delete items from my list and
this was not a problem before JFW 10. I know that the item is not removed
from the list during the current shopping trip and isn't reflected until one
goes back to the site again.

Another minor problem is that I'm now getting duplicates of the buy and
image of the items. I talked to someone at web support at Peapod
and they denied the images were duplicated and said the site wasn't
experiencing any problems. Another technician said they had changed the
site about the time I installed Beta 1

Here is an example of what the list looks like now:

  Add Item to Cart

  buy(125249)
  q3(125249)
  buy(125249)
  q3(125249)
Arizona Green Tea with Ginseng & Honey

  1 GAL
  $.023/ OZ
  On Sale
  $2.99
  Delete from List
  Add Item to Cart

  buy(14676)
  q3(14676)
  buy(14676)
  q3(14676)
Ben & Jerry's Frozen Yogurt Low Fat Cherry Garcia

  1 PINT
  $.188/ OZ
  On Sale
  $3.00
  Delete from List

I got the duplicate images and inability to delete items in JAWS 9. A
sighted person said that there were no duplicate images with JAWS not
running and a Window-Eyes user who shops with Peapod was not getting the
duplicate images. I don't know if she was able to delete items since I
didn't notice this problem at first.

I reported the bug in Beta 1 to FS and it wasn't fixed in the second Beta
and I reported it again. I uninstalled Beta 2 and installed the final
version of JFW 10 and I'm still having the problems.

I'm running IE 7 on an XP Home with S3 machine. I think Peapod is
associated with different grocery chains and it's Stop & Shop here.

I'd appreciate if anyone could see how Peapod is working for them.

  Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Keystroke for clearing clipboard

This seemed to have emptied the clipboard and JAWS 9 just said clipboard

[JAWS-Users] Clipboard Content in Beta 2

2008-09-25 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I never got around to trying the new Windows key plus Insert plus X to read
the contents of the clipboard in the first Beta of JAWS 10 and gave it a try
with Beta 2 and encountered something strange in
OE 6 after I tried it. The keystroke seems to work, but, now when I compose
a new message and hit escape, JAWS says "virtual cursor" and I'm not asked
if I want to save the message and I'm still in the message body. I have to
hit alt-F and close to get out of the message body and get the prompt asking
me if I want to save the message.

The OS is XP Home with SP2 and IE 7.

Can anyone duplicate this?

Thanks,

Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Stopping Speech in JFW 8 & 9

2008-05-25 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

JAWS 8.0.2173 and 9.0.2169 work much better
for me with Advanced Find (Control-Shift-F) in OE6 and is better behaved
with combo boxes in IE 7 than JAWS 7.1 did and I'd very much like to be able
to use either of them instead of 7.1. However, 8.0.2173 and 9.0.2169 don't
seem to be stopping as quickly in
OE and IE when I hit Control to stop speech the way it would with 7.1. In
7.1, focus would be placed almost exactly where I stopped speech, but in the
two later versions focus is at least at the bottom of the page in IE 7 and
way below
where I stop speech in OE. For example, at

http://www.stopyourekillingme.com/index.html

when the page loads, if I hit Control when JAWS speaks the first "G" link, I
land on the copyright notice instead of the "G" link. If I
am reading a post from this list, for example, I land after the "Visit the
JAWS Users List home page at:" part.

My verbosity options are set for advanced and it's with XP Home with SP
2. I looked at the technical support notices on The FS site and old posts
I'd saved about JFW 8 and I didn't see anything. Does anyone have any ideas
on how to fix this problem in 8.0.2173and 9.0.2169 ? I repaired JAWS 8
back in April when I first installed it, but it didn't help. My tech used
his cell phone phoned to contact FS' tech support about 8 and I couldn't
hear the other end of the conversation, but he said they didn't offer any
solutions.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Adding New Address at amazon.com?

2008-05-08 Thread Margaret Thomas
Good Afternoon All,

Could some kind soul please tell me the secret for adding a new address
for a recipient for whom I wish to have Amazon snail mail a gift card?

On the main Amazon page I click on gift cards and then on mail a
gift card when the page loads. Then, Amazon asks me to sign in and, when I
do, I get edit boxes for amount etc. Everything is fine until I get to #3
which has a choice of a combo box of addresses I've previously sent gifts to
or what is supposed to be a button for enter a new address.Nothing I've
tried has worked to add the new address. I tried going to Manage Your
Address Book and adding the new recipient that way, but, while I believe
I've correctly followed the steps, the new address isn't added to the
address book.

I looked at help for gift cards, managing your address book, using your
account, and anything else that looks promising and am not finding anything
useful.

I've tried it with JAWS 7.1 and 8 and I'm running XP Home and IE 7.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Cynthia Handel,

Please accept our sincere apologies for delays on developing our new product
so that it is compatible with your needs. As you know, we are addressing the
issue this year.

In the meantime, you are welcome to continue to use Ad-Aware SE Personal for
as long as we are able to provide updates to Ad-Aware SE's threat database.
Lavasoft plans to continue to provide updates to the Ad-Aware SE threat
database well into this year.

In order to continue to keep Ad-Aware SE Personal updated, you will need to
perform manual updates when new Definitions Files are released. Here are the
instructions for performing a manual update for Ad-Aware SE.

- Close Ad-Aware SE.
- Download the latest Definitions File in ZIP format here
http://download.lavasoft.com/public/defs.zip and save the file to a
temporary location.
- Unzip the contents of the file either with a ZIP utility or with the
built-in support in Windows to the Ad-Aware SE installation directory, which
usually is "C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE\".
- Open Ad-Aware SE.
- Confirm that the latest Definitions File is installed by checking the
"Initialization Status" in the main program window.

Hello,

I received the message, below, some time ago. Now, it's nearing the time
where it will become imperative to upgrade to Ad Aware 2007.

Has anything been done to make the program accessible for those of us who
use screen readers? I would really like to stay with Ad Aware, if at all
possible, since it's a very good program and the best I've found.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

Dear Cynthia Handel,

Thank you for your e-mail.

We appreciate your inquiry and understand the importance of your request, as
we also believe as part of our founding ethics that all individuals have the
right to protect their private information on their computers.

Our developers are aware of this problem with screen reader compatibility;
they have added this item to their development points in order to discuss
and identify when they are able to implement an update so that Ad-Aware 2007
is accessible for use with screen readers.

As of now, we do not have a definite date as to when the updated software
version will be released, but we will make an announcement on our company

However, as a blind computer user, I've heard, from other Ad Aware

[JAWS-Users] Spybot 1.4

Hi All,

Somehow Spybot never got re-installed after a new hard drive was put in
my XP Home with SP2 machine when it was in the shop back in August. I'm
attempting to remedy this and have version 1.4 and the JAWS scripts
installed, but have run into a problem running the program. I hit the check

I thought I remembered that these should be checked, but have not been able

I'm trying it with JAWS 7.1, but earlier versions of JFW are on the

Re: [JAWS-Users] Problem Clicking on a Link IE 7

2007-11-06 Thread Margaret Thomas
Tim and Patti,

Thank you. I finally got it. I didn't have a problem with it the other
day before I checked that the "s" was in the URL for a secure transaction
and wrote to ask why the URL said something totally different from what I
was expecting.

I'm still confused since I didn't get a sound when I clicked on the
click now link and didn't get the information bar like I used to with IE 6.
I think it had been set at medium security.

I'll have to go over the posts I saved about popups and IE 7 since my
tech put it on my machine back in August when the computer had to go to the
shop and didn't ask me if I wanted 7 or to stick with 6. He saved a lot of
data, but all my configurations and settings had to be redone and I've been
trying to use IE 7 like 6 as much as possible to get some work done and have
put off immersing myself in 7. I thought I had looked at popups in 7 since
I'd had about the new security features it is supposed to have, but,
obviously, I missed something.

Thanks again,

Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Problem Clicking on a Link IE 7

2007-11-06 Thread Margaret Thomas
Good Afternoon All,

I'm having a problem getting a link to work on a web site using JAWS 7.1 and
8.0 with IE 7.

Could someone try going to:

http://www.rifoodbank.org/matriarch/MultiPiecePage.asp_Q_PageID_E_38_A_PageName_E_MakeOnlineGift

and try clicking on the "click here" link and see if they can get the link
to work?

Thanks,

Hi All,

I was wondering if Spybot 1.5 is no longer considered a Beta? I checked
posts from other lists and several pages on the publisher's home page and

Re: [JAWS-Users] Reading problem with OE and JFW 7

2007-10-16 Thread Margaret Thomas
The "f" feature also continues in JAWS 7.1 at least here. I thought I
saw a notice that it had been fixed, but maybe that's in 8 or the Beta for
9. I have 8 installed, but haven't really tried it out yet.

Hi Victor,

This has been a Jaws feature over several versions now. As far as I know it
only happens in Outlook Express through Jaws versions 5 to 7 but quite
possibly earlier versions I don't remember when it was first introduced.

Sometimes you can't apparently delete the letter 'f' either, it can turn up
multiple times to Jaws but not on screen.

I am ;unaware of any work-around.

[JAWS-Users] Silencing Deleted in OE JFW 7.1

2007-10-08 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I want to get JAWS 7.1 to stop saying "deleted" when I press the delete
key from within the message body in OE 6. I had saved some instructions,
but am not finding the line in the JAWSDelete script that the instructions
say to comment out. I may be behind in my caffeine consumption, but the
line doesn't seem to be the same as in the DeleteMessage script and I don't
want to mess up.

The instructions I have say:

In OE, press insert 0 (on the number row) to open the OE scripts file.

You need to comment out two lines in the scripts.

Press control L (or go to the script menu, script list) and press D and find

the script

DeleteMessage and enter.

Arrow down in the script to the line that says the following and put a

semicolon in front of it like this:

;SayFormattedMessage (ot_status, msg_DeleteMessage_L, msg_DeleteMessage_S)

Now press control L again and this time press J and then find the script

JAWSDelete and enter.

You will find the same line as above in that script also.

Put a semicolon in front of the line in this script too.

Then press control S to compile, alt f4 to leave script manager.

The OS is XP Home with SP 2 and IE 7 isinstalled.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Programs sub-Menu Inconsistent Re: ItemsDisappearedfrom Desktop

2007-09-17 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi,

In the start menu tab, the radio button for classic was already checked.

When I hit enter on the customize button,

Expand My Documents-OFF
Expand My Pictures-OFF
Expand Network Connections-OFF
Expand Printers-OFF
Scroll Programs-OFF
Show Small Icons in Start menu-OFF
Use Personalized Menus-ON

In the task bar tab

Lock the taskbar is checked
Auto-hide the taskbar is not checked
Keep the taskbar on top of other windows is checked
Group similar taskbar buttons is not checked
Show Quick Launch is checked
Show the clock is checked
hide inactive icons is not checked

I don't know if it has anything to do with the current problem, but the
only way I've found of getting to the control panel is via settings in the
start menu. I could swear control panel was listed along with drive a,
local disk (C drive) on the desktop when I hit enter on My Computer, but
there's no item for it with the new hard drive and I'd like to get it back
since that's where I'm used to finding it when I go to add/remove programs.

Thanks,

Margaret

Hi Margaret,
It sounds like you are useing the XP start menu.
You can change this by going to the control panel, and selecting task bar
and start menu.
When this opens, choose the start menu tab, and make your changes there.

2007-09-12 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi Joseph,

I got the files for the scrip in the right place using your
instructions. I haven't tried the application yet to see if they "took"
since I should be fresh to tackle it.

As far as your instructions for JAWS and XP, WMP 11 is the only player
installed on the machine. I'm not sure I'm finding the option to change
file types and what to do with if I'm in the right place. I did find
something about file types under the tools and options. The only thing I've
done with WMP 11 is to burn a couple of CD's and that was before the new
hard drive was installed and it might need to be configured to work best
with JAWS. I did find an item in the menus for classic menus and things are
now slightly more familiar, but I really have no idea what I'm doing in the
program and things are messed up enough now, so any detailed instructions
would really be appreciated to avoid fouling things up even more.

Thanks,

Margaret

You should restart JAWS before the scripts can take effect.

Follow it and you should use JAWS efficiently.
3. File association: this problem is caused by what's called
"file association" issue i.e. to associate a file type with a
program. Go to the program which the wave sound (wav) was
registered as file type (possibly Winamp). Go to the location
where you can see settings for that media player and you should
see an option to change file types. Check to see if wav is

Windows XP and JAWS

This topic discusses settings changes we recommend you make when using JAWS
in Windows XP Home or Professional. You must be logged in with
administrative rights to make several of these changes.

Many of these settings are changed within Control Panel. To open Control
Panel, press the WINDOWS KEY to open the Start Menu, move to Control Panel,
and press ENTER. Depending on your system settings, Control Panel either
opens
in a separate window, or the Control Panel items open as a sub-menu.

We recommend making changes in the following areas:
. Display Properties
. Folder Options
. Start Menu
. Windows Explorer
. System Performance

Display Properties

1. From the Control Panel, move to "Display" and press Enter.
2. From the themes combo box, select Windows XP.
3. In the List of backgrounds on the Desktop page, choose Bliss.
4. Set Position to "Stretch".
5. In the Screen Saver combo box on the Screen Saver page, press HOME to
select none.
6. On the Appearance page, set Windows and Buttons to Windows classic style.
7. Set Color Scheme to Windows Standard.
8. Set Font to normal.
9. Close the dialog.

Note: After making these changes, the Display page Themes combo box says
"Modified Theme".

Folder Options
1. From the Control Panel, press ALT+T to go to the Tools menu
2. Press O for Folder Options.
3. From the Tasks radio button group, select Use Windows Classic folders
4. (Optional):
A. On the View page, move to the Advanced Settings tree view.
B. Clear the Hide Extensions For Known File Types check box.
C. If you also use screen magnification software, clear the Show pop-up
description for folder and desktop items check box. Pop up descriptions
often hides
the menu item just below any given menu item, making it impossible to
visually see the next item in the menu list.
D. Move to the Apply to All Folders button and press SPACEBAR.
E. Answer Yes to the dialog that comes up to acknowledge this change.
5. Move to the OK button in the Folder Options dialog box and press SPACEBAR
to close this dialog box.

Start Menu
1. From Control Panel, Move to Taskbar and Start menu and press ENTER.
2. From the Taskbar page, press ALT+G to move to and uncheck Group Similar
Taskbar Buttons.
3. Press ALT+H to move to and uncheck the check box for Hide inactive icons.
4. Press CTRL+TAB to move to the Start Menu page.
5. Select Classic start menu.
6. Press ENTER to close this dialog box.

Windows Explorer
1. Press WINDOWS KEY+E to open Windows Explorer.
2. Press ALT+V to open the View menu.
3. Select "Arrange Icons by" and press ENTER to open the submenu.
4. Move to the menu item "Name" to arrange by Name, and Press ENTER to
select this and close the menus.
5. Repeat steps 2 and 3, and move to the item "Show in Groups." If it is
checked, press ENTER to uncheck it and close the menus.
6. Press ALT+T to open the Tools menu.
7. Press O to open the Folder Options Dialog.
8. Press CTRL+TAB to move to the View page.
9. Press SPACEBAR to activate the "Apply to all folders" button, and press
SPACEBAR on the YES button to acknowledge this change.
10. Move to the OK button and press SPACEBAR to close this dialog box.

System Performance
1. From the Control Panel, move to System and press ENTER to open the System
Properties Dialog.
2. Press CTRL+TAB to move to the Advanced page.
3. Press ALT+S to activate the Performance Settings button. The Performance
Options Dialog opens.
4. Clear the following check boxes:
. Animate Windows when Minimizing and Maximizing.
. Slide open Combo Boxes.
. Smooth-scroll List Boxes.
. Use Visual Styles on Windows and Buttons.
5. Press ENTER to close the Performance Options dialog and return to the
System Properties dialog box.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Q. flaggin messages

2007-09-03 Thread Margaret Thomas
I think flag messages might be a bit different from high priority etc.

I saved an old post from 2002 from debbie Scales on the old JFWlite
list:

Rex, here is what it is used for but jaws doesn't recognize the flag at
least not in XP with 32 bit color.

Flag a mail or news message

To flag an e-mail or news message

When you receive a message, you can flag it for later reference.
List of 2 items
. In the main window, click in the flag column next to the message you want
to flag.

-or-
. In the main window, select the message you want to flag and from the
Message menu, click Flag Message.
list end

 Notes
List of 3 items
. You can sort all flagged messages and group them together by clicking the
flag icon in the header of the flag column.
. You can remove the flag from a message by clicking the flag icon.
. You can define a rule that flags certain messages when they are received.
list end

I don't know if we can use the flag messages feature with the newer
versions of JAWS that have come out since the post was written and I think
it was still OE 5.x then. I'm behind on my caffeine consumption and haven't
experimented. Plus, I haven't tried out JFW 8 yet and don't know how well
it works with OE.

[JAWS-Users] Setting Up Word 2000 to Work Best with JFW

2007-08-29 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

Could someone please point me to a source containing instructions for
configuring Word 2000 to work best with JAWS on a XP Home computer? Either
the JAWS-users page or the Blind-Computing one has some instructions, but
they aren't complete. If they are on the FS site, I can't find them.

I had a document loaded and was running JAWS 7.1 when JAWS stopped the
contents of the lines using down and up arrows. I unloaded JAWS and
reloaded it and they worked again, but it was another thing that never
happened before IE 7 was installed on the machine. Hopefully, it was a
fluke, but I wanted to check that everything is set up properly since it
seems all my programs have had to be re-configured so far.

I did get an order placed with IE 7 using JFW 7.1, so I'm making
progress!

[JAWS-Users] Setting Up JFW for XP Home & IE 7

2007-08-28 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

When my XP Home with SP2 came back from the shop with the new hard drive
and fresh install of XP etc. the classic desktop that was there seems to be
there again, but there is a different Programs set up and I'm hoping that if
I can get it back to the way it was, it might be one less thing my brain has
to adjust to and that maybe there aare also some other settings I should
make to XP to make it work better with JAWS now that IE 7 is on the machine.

I think either the JAWS-users or Blind-Computing home pages have the
instructions, but IE 7 is still giving me fits and finding anything there is
still cumbersome. I found an old post from 2004 from another list that
gives the changes we should make and I wonder if they aare still valid since
they were written for JFW 5.1 and I think IE 6.

Windows XP and JAWS

This topic discusses settings changes we recommend you make when using JAWS
in Windows XP Home or Professional. You must be logged in with
administrative rights to make several of these changes.

Many of these settings are changed within Control Panel. To open Control
Panel, press the WINDOWS KEY to open the Start Menu, move to Control Panel,

opens
in a separate window, or the Control Panel items open as a sub-menu.

We recommend making changes in the following areas:

[JAWS-Users] Can JFW 7.0 Work with IE 7?

2007-08-24 Thread Margaret Thomas
HiAll,

When my tech wiped out my old XP Home hard drive and put in a new hard
drive, he re-installed some of the programs such as the MS ones. I had been
running IE6 and had JFW 7.0 and 7.1 on it, but hadn't installed 8.0 yet
since I was still trying to work out some problems with 7.1.

He installed IE 7 on the new hard drive and JAWS 7.0, 7.1 and 8.0 are
also now installed. I've had to re-configure OE to my liking and for the
best use with JAWS and have run into other interesting surprises, plus
trying to get used to a new keyboard with the function keys on top of the
qwerty keys.

JAWS 7.0 worked better with OE 6 than 7.1 did on the old hard drive and
I had hoped maybe I could get JFW 7.0 to work as well with OE to postpone
having to learn the new things with IE 7 and JAWS 8, but, so far, 7.0
doesn't seem to be working well with the "new" OE. I'm having trouble
re-doing my message rules and what should be unread messages are marked as
read among other problems.

I may just be tired and everything may not be back to the configurations
on the old hard drive, but I thought I remembered that 7.1 was the first
JAWS version that worked well with IE 7. Is there any point in trying to
get 7.0 to play nicely with OE now that IE 7 is installed?

JFW 7.0 and IE 6 had worked fine before the bad problems last week and
I've only really wanted to upgrade after JFW 7.0 since I hope to get started
with Audible and downloading audio books and my understanding is that
Audible requires IE 7 and at least JFW 7.1.

Sorry, for the typos-the keyboard isn't cooperating.\
Thanks,
Margaret

[JAWS-Users] Error Loading IE 6-XP Home Re: Spybot Found Problem

2007-08-20 Thread Margaret Thomas
Flor,

I remember that Control-E was a toggle for something in IE about
Microsoft and searching, but didn't IE at least load without an error
before you did the control-E?

I'm getting the

Error
A file that is required to run Search Companion cannot be found. You
may need to run setup.
OK

when I press my short cut key to load IE 6. When I click on okay,
Google.com, my IE home start page loads properly.

I did try pressing Control-E with IE loaded as you suggested and I
didn't get the error message the next time IE loaded. If I do the
toggle again, I do get it, so you may have solved the problem, but I'm
not quite sure JAWS 7.0 is saying everything it used to say before I
started getting the error message. I've also had problems with my
online banking after it started. I tried the banking site again after
doing the toggle and still had trouble with the site, but they may be
doing their over night updating. I'll try it again when I'm pretty
sure they've finished.

Thanks,

Margaret

(that's a toggle.) Maybe you have, but in case you or others didn't

Jeffrey,

I clicked on fix the selected problem and got

yes no

It might be a fluke, but at one point the screen seems to say
something about restoring points. I don't know if it means changing
the XP restore ones
and I don't want to change them since the Search Companion problem
with IE 6 from last week hasn't been fixed and my tech's office said I
need to wait for him to come and I haven't gotten a call from him to

Hi All

I'd been running Spybot 1.4 using the auto run method and I think
it originally took something like an hour and a half to do its thing.
Recently, it seems to have taken less than 10 minutes and I decided to
install the JAWS scripts and try running it that way and it found 1
problem

Problem Kind

The XP Home firewall shouldn't be running anyway since the
firewall is in my router. Should I fix the problem or leave it alone?

By the way, has anyone heard if 1.5 is out of Beta yet?

Thanks,,

Re: [JAWS-Users] PC Maintenance XP Home

2007-08-18 Thread Margaret Thomas
Denny,

I got the chkdsk /f to work this time. I have egg on my face
since I thought I had dutifully cut and pasted the command as it
appears on the tips and tricks page, however I have punctuation turned
off and a bit of a hearing problem and only got the chkdsk and not the
rest of it.

I think I got the scan disk to work this time and tried defrag.
No luck; I got an error:

Microsoft Management Console
MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc.graphic 580
This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or
was created by
a later version of MMC. This
may also be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the
file.
OK

I have administrator rights on the computer.

Thanks for any ideas on what I might be messing up now.

As for the sccan disc, you said that you heard Jaws talking when you
did the

disc
process is completed since Windows doesn't load until it is.
It sounds like 1 of a couple of things is happening.
One, either you didn't restart your computer after starting the scan
disc
process, or two, it ran through the process after restart and Windows
loaded
and you didn't realize it.
Do you hear the Windows shut down sound when you do a restart?

Hi All,

It had been way too long since I performed PC maintenance on this
XP
Home with SP 2 machine using JAWS 7.0 and all the steps don't come
trippingly off my fingers since I had Norton SystemWorks 2005 on my
Win 98
machine and on the XP until about March when NSW was up renewal and my
understanding that the 2007 versions of Norton products weren't
accessible
and my tech installed AVG. So, I was used to the Disk Doctor and
Speed Disk
Utilities with NSW, which is why the XP "Scan Disc" and Defrag haven't
come
easily.

I believe I was able to complete the process using Denny's
instructions
on the home page for the list, but I ran into problems last night and
am
hoping I was just too tired when I started the procedures.

All went well until I got to Check Disc. Denny's instructions
say:

 3. Check Disc

The check disc should be performed before a scan disc is
performed. To do this, go to the start menu and then to, run.

When the edit box appears, type in: chkdsk /f and press enter. You
will be
presented with a dialogue that says, the check disc cannot be
performed
because

the volume is in use. Would you like to perform this the next time
your
system starts? Just type the letter Y and press enter.

Now you will need to shut down any open applications and
restart your PC. When it begins to boot up and before Windows starts,
your
PC will

perform a check disc. It will take a few minutes to perform, but when
it is
finished, Windows will start up normally.

When I attempted the steps, XP started the checking process before
I had
a chance to re-start the machine and I'm just about positive it did
the same
thing the last time I tried it.

The next problem was with scan disk where Denny says:

 4. Scan Disc

Windows XP doesn’t have an actual scan disc, but it does
have
something relatively close to it.

To run scan disc, go to your desk top and then to, My
Computer.
If you aren’t using the classic start menu, you might have to go to
your
start

menu and then to My Computer there.

Open My Computer and highlight your C drive, sometimes
called,
Local Disc C. Don’t press enter, just highlight it. Now do an alt
enter to

bring up the properties. Next do a control tab to the Tools tab.

You will be on, errors checking, check now button. Press
your
spacebar and it will say, Start Button, but don’t press enter yet.
Instead,

tab to the check boxes and check, automatically fix files system
errors and
the next check box which is, scan for and attempt recovery of bad
sectors.

Check both of the boxes. Now tab to the start button and press enter.

You will be presented with a dialogue saying that the
disc
check cannot pbe performed because the disc check needs exclusive
access to
some

files. Do you want to schedule a disc check the next time you start
Windows? Just press your spacebar on yes. Now tab to OK and press

your

went okay until I got to
It may take as long as an hour for this process to
complete, depending on the size of your hard drive and how many errors
you have, but be

Patient and Windows will restart once the process is complete. I
attempted the steps twice leaving more than an hour the first time and
more than 4 hours the second time and JAWS wouldn't speak at all
either time except for saying ALT-F4 when I tried it. A slightly
weird thing is that the Insert key on the num pad hasn't been working
since I tried the scan disc and I've rebooted. The insert key on the
six pack works and num lock is off. I haven't been able to get a new
keyboard since I have had to wiggle waggle keys from time to time to
get them to respond and it could be strictly coincidental that the
insert key in the num pad isn't responding now.

Am I just missing something in Denny's instructions?

Thank you,

Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Fixing Mislabeled Graphic Re: AMessage Status in OEAdvanced Find J 7.1

2007-08-14 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

Computer literate sighted assistance hasn't been available and the
thing about JAWS 7.1 correctly reporting the number of unread
messages, but not saying in the resulting message list view after
doing an Advanced Find (Control-shift-F was bugging me. My tech's
office has a remote way of looking at my computer and I gave them a
call. They said sighted people see unread messages as bolded in both
the regular message list view and with the one after doing advanced
find. They saw the unread ones as unread and I checked and JAWS says
they are bolded.

If anyone still has XP Home with SP2,IE 6 and is running JFW 7.1
and Outlook Express 6, could you do a Control-Shift-F from the message
list view and see if JAWS says unread for the messages that are
unread. The count of unread messages is correct and Control-U lands
on an unread message correctly. The regular message list view says
unread.

I suppose it's a minor thing to be bugged about, but I use
Advanced Find a lot every day and it worked properly in previous
versions of JAWS.

Thanks,

Margaret

JAWS is correctly speaking the number of unread items when I do an

I remember that, for some reason, Advanced Find is somehow considered

was the way it was with Win 98. At any rate I seem to be having to
configure things like muting the escape key again after hitting
Control-Shift-F after I've already done them in OE.

I did back up the more than one thousand files in shared files and
was thinking that I could replace whatever file has the labeled
graphics in Advanced Find with the original, but I don't know if which
one it is or if it would even work.

I'm running XP Home and IE 6.

Any help in not having to uninstall and re-install 7.1 would be

it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Message Status in OE Advanced Find J 7.1

2007-08-11 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi All,

I took a break from getting JFW 7.1 to say "Unread" when there are
unread messages in the resultant list view in Outlook Express after
doing A control-Shift-F (Advanced Find command). The odd thing is
that Insert-Pg Down correctly says the number of unread messages and
Control U correctly goes to the next unread message. This worked fine
in 7.0 and the last several versions of JAWS.

Before I take another try at labeling graphics for this,, I was
wondering if anyone has enough vision or a sighted person around who
could tell me what sighted people see with "Unread" in the message
list view resulting from Advanced Find? For example, I think JAWS
"translates" a paper clip to saying attachment.

Thanks,

Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Fixing Mislabeled Graphic Re: AMessage Status inOEAdvanced Find J 7.1

2007-08-05 Thread Margaret Thomas
Chris,,

Advanced Find in Outlook Express is one of my favorite commands
and lets me find all sorts of posts I saved or find things from
listserves quickly.

From the message list view in OE 6, press Control-Shif-F. JAWS
announces Find Message Dialogue and says look in and the name of the
folder you are in. Some of the more recent versions of JAWS say some
extraneous things here like adding reading only edit that you can get
it not to say. If you want to search in an OE folder other than the
one you are in, press alt b and you will get the folder list. To
search in the folder you are in, keep tabbing to find some of the
things you can search for. Tabbing 3 times is the place where you can
type in messages from a particular person, part of an e-mail address,
etc. Tab again and you get to where you can look for messages to
people lists, etc. Another tab brings you to subject if you want to
search for any part of what's in the subject field.
One more tab is for message if you remember anything in the message
body. The next 2 tabs get you to where you can search for messages
within a date range, say if you remember the message you're looking
for was written between april 1 and June 30 of this year. There's a
check box to check if you want to search for attachments. You can
search for any combinations of these items and if you search for
things in local folders, you can really increase the capability.

There are short cut keys too . If you want to search within the
folder you started the search with,, alt-r is the one to land you in
the from section. Alt-t for To;; Alt-u for subject; Alt-a for message
and alt-h for attachment.

Hit enter when you've typed in all the items you want to search for
and you get a message list view with the results.

Hope that helps and you find Advanced Find as useful as I do.

[JAWS-Users] Fixing Mislabeled Graphic Re: AMessage Status in OE Advanced Find J 7.1

2007-08-05 Thread Margaret Thomas
Hi all,,

In addition to not saying "Unread," JAWS 7.1 was also not saying
"Attachment" in the resulting message list view after doing an
Advanced Find
(Control-Shift-F) in OE 6 so I decided to try to manually label
graphics to see if it solved the problem.

I got JFW to say checked and unchecked after Advanced Find which
it wasn't doing and the state of the items is correct. I got it to
speak "Attachment" when there was one after doing a Control-Shift-F.
However, I pressed my luck and thought I had figured out that graphic
22 was supposed to be Unread and labeled it"Unread." A test
determined that I blew that one and it did not make JAWS say "Unread"
in the resulting message list view. JAWS was saying "Unread" when I
routed JAWS to PC in the resulting message list view and I tried
getting it to say "graphic 22" again and I was successful. I haven't
been able to figure out what graphic 22 is and sighted assistance is
not available.

JAWS is correctly speaking the number of unread items when I do an
Insert-pg down after Control-shift-F, gut it worked properly in JFW 7
and previous versions of JAWS as did the speaking of "Attachment."

I remember that, for some reason, Advanced Find is somehow considered
to be part of XP Home and is not really part of OE or at least that
was the way it was with Win 98.

Any help in not having to uninstall and re-install 7.1 would be
appreciated. I've lost count of the number of times I've already done
it.

Thank you,

Margaret

One is that the number of unread messages resulting from the
search is
correctly announced with Insert-pg down, but JAWS does not announce
"Unread" in the message list view. This worked properly in 7.0 here.

The OS is XP Home with SP 2.

Any help in getting "Unread" in the message list view after doing

[JAWS-Users] AMessage Status in OE Advanced Find J 7.1

Re: [JAWS-Users] Backing Up Settings\enu JFW7.1

2007-08-02 Thread Margaret Thomas
Flor and All,

I admit that I have been more than a tad confused about backing
up the script files since FS introduced the new path for the
settings\ene back in JFW 6.0 or whenever it was. At least part of my
problem may stem from confusion about when things go in "New User" and
what goes in "All Users." My tech built my XP Home machine and never
changed it to Margaret or whatever and I've gotten different answers
on lists about whether he's wrong that it's difficult to do at this
point since the machine is more than 2 years old or if it's easily
accomplished.

The "New User" vs. "Margaret" isn't an issue since I'm stuck with
it,, but I looked for old posts I've saved about "Shared Files" and
etc. and I still don't really understand it. I'm the only one who
uses the machine except when a sighted person helps out with a problem
or if it's more serious and my tech is needed.

I also have Thou shall back up thine script files before making
any changes to thine new version of JAWS tatooed on the back of my
hand" since we were warned since JFW 3.x about the dire consequences
that could result if there were problems resulting from changind the
script files if we didn't back up first.

I found the instructions posted on the JFWlite page before JAWS
6.0, so I do what I want to do at least in theory.

"Backup Current Scripts Instructions!
Synopsis: Instructions on backing up current scripts.
Description:Instructions on backing up your current script
folder
before making changes to existing scripts.

Remarks:Before making any changes or additions, you should
back
up your current scripts, in case something goes wrong with the
modification
you're attempting to make, causing you to restore the original copy.

Example:You want to make the ChangePunctuation script a
part of
your default script file, but every time you try to compile, your
system
crashes! What do you do?
This is just a hypothetical situation, but a good example of why it
would
benefit you to have a copy of your default.jss file stored in a safe
folder. To get back to where the system is stable again, so you can
take
another shot at adding that script, you'd only need to copy that
single,
backed up file back into the script folder, overwriting the one you're
having so much trouble with!
Here is one means of ensuring you have a safe copy:

--
1) Select My Computer from the Desktop.
2) When presented with the Drive list, arrow down to "C:" and whack
Enter.
3) Hit the letter "J", until you find your version of jaws and hit
enter.
4) Hit "S", and arrow down to the "Settings" folder and whack Enter.
5) Arrow to your specific language's folder and whack Enter. (For
English, it will be "ENU".)
You are now in your JAWS Script folder, wher JFW stores all your
script
files.
What we need to do now is
-Mark all the files and copy them to the clipboard.
-create an empty folder, then move into that folder.
-paste the files from the clipboard into this folder.
6) Hit Control+A to "select" all the contents of this folder.
7) Hit Control+C to copy the selected files onto the clipboard.
8) Hit Alt+F to drop the File menu, and arrow down to select "New..."
9) From the resulting menu, select "Folder" as the item to create,
and
give it a name, such as "Originals", and whack Enter.
10) Arrow down until you reach this new folder, and whack Enter.
(Hitting
the End key sometimes takes you to the newly-created item, since it is
probably at the end of the file list you are in.)
11) Hit Control+V, or select "Paste" from the Edit menu. This should
have
pasted all the script files into this new folder.
12) Hit Alt+F4 until you are back at the Desktop."

I'm wondering if I could create a new folder somewhere well away
from either of the paths, copy the one thousand and whatever files and
paste them in the newly created folder?

Any help in getting what script files belong where or information
as to where FS has explained this would be appreciated. I admit to
being extremely stupid about this, but I was confused from the get-go
when my tech didn't change "New User" to "Margaret" or whatever.

Thank you,

Margaret

Re: [JAWS-Users] Backing Up Settings\enu JFW7.1

2007-08-01 Thread Margaret Thomas
The path for shared settings is

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\7.10\Settings\enu

It has 7 folders and well over 1,000 files.

Do I create the new folder to copy all the files in as with
earlier versions and paste them in that folder and put it here or copy
them and paste them in the newly created folder at
C:\Documents and Settings\new user\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\7.10\Settings\enu

Thanks,,

Margaret

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Backing Up Settings\enu JFW7.1

Hi All,,

I have JAWS 7.1 reinstalled again and want to back up the
settings\enu so I'll have the original ones before I start configuring
7.1 to my liking. When I go to explore my settings, I get the path as

C:\Documents and Settings\new user\Application Data\Freedom
Scientific\JAWS\7.10\Settings\enu

but instead of the several folders and a bunch of files that I got in
settings\enu in earlier versions, I'm only getting
Personalized Settings and default .jcf.

I looked on the list's home page and old posts I've saved to see how
you do it with 7.1, but didn't see anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Margaret
