Re: [JAWS-Users] [Bulk] jaws and repeating notifications?

2015-05-07 Thread Shoshana Hathaway
JAWS has always done this and I've found no way around it. Sometimes, on
web sites, it says the same thing over and over again for a while. I've
decided (based on nothing but my own faulty reasoning) that when IE or
Outlook or whatever is doing something, JAWS keep repeating the last thing
it said just to let me know it's working ...and waiting or busy. Kind of
the same idea as not having dead air on the radio, LOL! Of course, I
could be, and probably am, entirely wrong.

[JAWS-Users] I hate to do this, but ...

[JAWS-Users] question about Second Life virtual viewer

2014-05-12 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi, I don't know if there are any here who use Second Life. I'm learning
how, and someone from their virtual ability group (a wonderful bunch of
incredibly helpful people!) recommended that I download a 3rd party virtual
viewer called the Radigast viewer. I went to the site, but when I tried to
download the viewer, AVG yelled at me, and said there was a threat. I'm
wondering if anyone else has this, what the threat might be, and if I should
ignore it or find something else. The viewer SL provides doesn't play very
well with JAWS, and I understand that the Radigast viewer work well with it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] outlook

2014-05-07 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi all,

I suspect I know the answer to this, and I can deal with a you'll have to
live with it, so hush now, and do so, but on the unlikely chance there may
be a way to do what I want, I'll ask. After all, you all are far more
knowledgeable than I, so let me explain.

Until I got this computer, which my computer guru pre-loaded for me (with
legally licensed software) I used Outlook express, and liked it. One of the
things I really liked was that I could go into a folder, start with the
first message, open and read it, hit delete, and the next message would
automatically open and JAWS would read it. This made clearing a folder easy
and relatively effort free.

I can't do that with my Outlook 2007. I have to open the message, let JAWS
read it, then close the message, delete the read message, go to the next
message and repeat. I know I could probably find OE again somewhere, but
there are features in Outlook I really do like, and, well, it's here, so I'm
willing to keep it, and if there is no way to set it to do what I described
above, I can live with that, too ... but is there a way?

open attachments unless A. I know who they're from, and B. they are
expected. Same with links. If I see an unexplained link, it never gets
clicked. I've had my computer infected only once, and that was the one time
I had to briefly close my antivirus program and firewall a couple of years
ago. Soon as I turned them back on, the infestation was summarily dealt
with, though of course, everyone in my address book got something with my

I used these directions (less efficiently) to create my signature in Outlook

Clicked on the signature name, no problem. Clicked on edit. Got myself
into the signature block, and couldn't get a cursor so I could remove a word
and add what I wanted to add. Ended up copying the sig line from one of my
posts, going into Word, making the changes I wanted, going back to my
signature in outlook, deleting it, then adding the new one which I had
copied from Word into the signature block. Round about, but it did work.

Thanks, David! That is a nifty cool trick! Can I do the same thing to make
all windows in IE 11 do the same thing? I just *love* making the computer
save me time and minor aggravations!

Re: [JAWS-Users] messages automatically read problem

2014-04-24 Thread shoshana hathaway
OK, I just answered my own question. Now, all my windows should be
maximized! I had to go into the start menu to do it, because IE is pinned
to my task bar, and right clicking it didn't show properties, but I could
get at them from the start menu, which is what I did!

BTW, (and I suspect I know the answer to this one), I have Google Talk, not
because I especially like it, but because some of my friends do. I can make
calls but the IM window is completely inaccessible. Can I do anything about
that with Windows 7 Ultima and JAWS 14, or should I just chalk it up to
Google's tendency just not to care about such minor issues as accessibility?

[JAWS-Users] messages automatically read problem

2014-04-23 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi all,

I'm using Windows 7 Ultima and JAWS 14. I have always set my JAWS in
Outlook (which is where I get my email) to read messages automatically when
I open them. It's always worked, until today. Now I have to manually get
it to read the message. I did check my settings in JAWS, and read messages
automatically is definitely checked. Any ideas about what the problem might
be, or what I can do about it?

Thanks for any help,
Shoshana

What is hostgator, where do I find it, and why is it preferable to use
Wordpress there and not just go to www.wordpress.com? Shoshana, climbing up
the very steep, but satisfying WordPress learning curve.

Hi,

I deal with the tendency to type names in for me by just ignoring it, but
continuing to type the name I want. I do the same thing with auto correct,
and I most always prevail. Shoshana

Re: [JAWS-Users] identifying I e version

2014-04-05 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi,

I followed those instructions, and was taken into something from JAWS called
quick settings. I couldn't find where that gave me the version number of
anything. What am I doing wrong?

I used insert, control V and was taken into quick settings. However, I took
the opportunity to fix a few things, then went into the IE help menu, then
about, and found the version I'm using, which, as it turns out, is 11 point
something.

Actually, I did that, but I pressed all the keys at the same time. I wonder
if I should have pressed insert first, then control V.

[JAWS-Users] question about Google Talk

2014-04-05 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi,

I have Google Talk mostly because some of my friends prefer it, and I can
manage most things including calling. However, I can't get JAWS to read the
chat screen, except for the message I am sending. I *know* what I'm
saying, but does anyone know if there's a way to make the chat (or is it iM)
screen so JAWS can read it? My suspicion is that there isn't, which is one
of the reasons I don't like GTalk, but if I'm wrong, I'd like to know.

Oh, using Windows 7 and JAWS 14 on my PC desktop.

Thanks,
Shoshana, out of tricks for this.

Re: [JAWS-Users] appending the clipboard vs. saving a document

2014-04-03 Thread shoshana hathaway
Hi Mike and all,

First, let me introduce myself, as I am a new member to this list, though
I've been using JAWS for well over um 15? Years. Think I started with JAWS
3 or so, and now have 14 on my PC. (BTW anyone want to comment on 15?)

I do have a question about appending to the clipboard. I can see uses for
that, especially when gathering several links that I want to attach to an
email or a word document. This is the first time I have even heard of this
feature, so is the keyboard command a Windows key stroke or a JAWS
keystroke? Once I know that, I can search around in various help files and
likely find it, but I'd as soon narrow that search just a bit, if I can.

Thanks for any direction,
Shoshana

Hi Liuta, I think what you want is in the options section of the tools menu
in Outlook. Just not sure which tab, but you can tab through, read the
choices and probably figure it out pretty easily.
