Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and Favorites
Hi I have never seen Windows Vista, so I can't tell you the folder path to favorites. But typing favorites in the search box or run dialog should work. As for creating the new folders and moving items, since the steps below work in both Windows XP and 7, and Windows Vista is between those two, I would think they would work the same. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Jerry Martin Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 04:53 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and Favorites Do these steps also apply to Windows Vista? - Original Message - From: Mike O'Brien mike23...@verizon.net To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 3:04 PM Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and Favorites Hi I think the easiest way would be to go to the favorites folder in Windows Explorer, create the folders you want and then put the individual items into the folders You can find the favorites folder by doing the following. Mike: After following your steps, as well as the steps of others, I found that once on IE, I go to File, then to Favorites, and then down arrow to the Organize Favorites Heading. Then I press enter. This brings up the keyboard options for what I need to do i.e., Move, Delete, New Folder, etc. So, with the suggestions of all those involved, I figured it out. Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and menu bar problem
My observations are not based solely on anecdotal information. Eric Damery himself, manager of software development for Freedom Scientific, confirmed that IE 8 should be compatible with JAWS 9.0.2191U. Many users who have complained about JAWS 9 not working with IE 8 had never updated to the latest build. Indeed, some users have no idea which build of JAWS 9 they are running, and many never bother to check for updates. But if you are running JAWS 9.0.2191U and are still experiencing problems with IE 8, it may not be a JAWSissue. Other users have also reported that they have been able to use IE 8 successfully with JAWS 9, so I'm not the only one. Gerald - Original Message - From: Norma A. Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and menu bar problem
Gerald, I suggest you pass your information to tech support at Freedom Scientific. When I contacted them a few months ago, they said Jaws 9 does not support I.E. 8. It's fine to have your anecdotal information, but I don't think you're in a position to make a claim different of that of F.S. At 09:56 AM 5/11/2011, you wrote: I hate to keep sounding like a broken record, but IE 8 works just fine with JAWS 9. The key is that you must have the latest build of JAW 9 which is 2191U. IE 8 will not work with earlier builds of JAWS 9. Maybe the folks who claim that IE 8 doesn't work with JAWS 9 did not have the latest build installed. The only JAWS feature that does not work is read Address Bar (JAWS key-A), which is really no big deal. I have been using JAWS 9 with IE 8 every day for over two years and have yet to encounter any serious compatibility issues. Gerald - Original Message - From: Norma A. With IE 8 you can set multiple pages to start up. In the options menu you place an address on separate lines. With the latest jaws 11 I can not read the lines. everything is run together and can only read first and last address. Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and jaws 11 start up
Is anyone else having trouble with IE8 crashing frequently on Web pages? Very frequently I get a message that Internet Explorer has encountered an error on the Web page and will be shut down or that there is trouble with the page and it will be shut down. It will try to recover and sometimes it does but more frequently JAWS locks up and there isn't anything to solve it but to press the power button and restart the computer. I wonder if it is something to do with those security settings or something like that although I have no good reason beyond suspicion for that. Can I be the only one with this problem? Thanks. Have you updated JAWS 11 to the latest build of 11.0.1467? If not, you can get it at: http://www.freedomscientific.com/downloads/jaws/jaws-downloads.asp If it is still happening, it would be good if you could contact our Support and they will give you some instructions to submit a Dump of JAWS at the time of the crash of IE so we can help analyze what might be happening. If you have a place where this happens regularly , that would be most helpful. Also, please watch for the JAWS 12 Public Beta which should be posted around noon time today. It would be more helpful for you to also verify if it is still happening even with JAWS 12 when you can get it installed. Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and jaws 11 lockup?
Dale, Which version of MS windows are you using? I have minimal problems on my laptop running windows 7 and IE 8 versus the lockups with IE 8 and windows vista. I have not figured out what is happening when a lock up occurs but usually have just thought my fingers were going to fast and that locked up the computer. But if so, seems like the lock up problem would be similar on both systems. But again, many more problems with vista and IE8. I will probably upgrade the vista system as that computer is only 1 years old. In any event, I always try to avoid just turning the computer off as a remedy but rather try and get the system to shutdown normally. As to a remedy, if after numerous alt plus F4 commands I do not get speech to come back and or I try reloading the jaws program, I go to the shutdown command to let the system shutdown so I can reboot the system. No doubt you will have no speech doing this. On vista that command sequence is: 1. windows key plus letter M to minimize to the desk top. 2. windows key to bring up search dialogue box. 3. right arrow twice to get placed on the shutdown command and press enter. On windows 7 system. 1. windows key plus letter M to go to desktop. 2. windows key to bring up search box on the start menue. 3. right arrow only once and press enter to shutdown the computer. I sure think it is best when you lose speech after some sort of lock up to try and get the computer to shut down normally so you can reboot the system, especially on the windows vista computer. And of course you can always try the alt plus control alt keys and delete key to bring up the task manager which sometimes brings back speech. Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 and jaws 11 start up
Is this likely to be a JAWS issue or more likely a IE8 problem. I have been assuming IE8 because of the messages I get from Windows. In fact, although I do have SMAs to include Jaws 11, I only ever upgraded from JAWS9 on my computer at work and now that I am retired no longer using that machine. Apart from this IE problem I have been satisfied with 9 and actually JAWS 7 seems to be doing just fine on the computer my wife uses. In fact, if I need to do any serious shopping on Sites I know to crash I go to that computer. It was a cheapy bought when one of mine suffered a hard disk crash running XP Home and for what ever reasons, IE8 never found its way onto that machine. I am pretty sure it is an IE8/Vista problem and probably some corruption of IE. It doesn't appear though in the Control panel so I don't know how to remove it and go back. If no one else is having this trouble then it has to be a local computer issue doesn't? If anyone else is having such issues I would be pleased to hear about it. [JAWS-Users] IE 8 settings
Just wondering if there are preferred settings etc to make JAWS most usable with IE 8? One thing I notice when tabbing around is something called split home screen, many different tool bars, etc. I have not changed anything but left default settings. I would prefer simply having the web page present and less clutter. I don't remember all this clutter with IE 6. Actually, it's very easy to roll back to IE 7. If the computer was formatted with xp. then IE6 would be the version installed. IE8 is a upgrade download. If it shows in add/remove then it can be un installed. If IE6 files are corrupted. then even installing firefox won't help sense it emulates its connection setting from IE what ever version you have installed. [JAWS-Users] IE 8 problem solved
Hi All, I just wanted to let you all know that the IE 8 problem that I was having with my new laptop and JAWS 9 has been solved. I was listening to one of Rick Harmon's podcasts and he said something about having a certain version of JAWS 9 to work with IE 8. So I went to update my JAWS 9 and got an error report. Then it said to do a repair on JAWS. So I did that and tried to update again and this time the update worked. So now I can use IE 8 with JAWS 9 and Windows Vista. [JAWS-Users] IE 8 loading pages
There is a feature in IE 8 where you can have several pages loaded at startup. I always had my local paper as the start up. This page usually takes a much longer time to load. Toying with the multi start up feature I found that it works great with jaws. I now have blind bargains first then the local paper and the page that my wife normally goes to. I use to think that there was a jaws problem because it would not always talk while my newspaper page was loading. Now the blind bargains page comes up fairly quickly. While reading over that page the news is being loaded in the background. I am using jaws 10 with IE 8 on an xp home computer. I don't know how much more I can push this nine year old machine. It is a 1.3 mhz with 512 meg memory. Nothing appears to run any slower with the multiple pages loaded. I have not had the problem where jaws stopped talking since I started using this new page loading arrangement. --- Please visit my home page; it is motivational, inspirational and humorous with many resources for the blind. http://www.LennyMcHugh.com For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] IE 8 loading pages

Now isn't that interesting? I don't get such problems here. I do get slow loading, but that's just a network problem and only occurs at specific times of the day, i.e., evenings. Otherwise it's a fast broadband type connection. Hi, all FYI. Microsoft just release IE 8. FYI. Got this from their webregarding jaws. just in case you wish to get new IE 8. er 8 RC1 is incompatible with versions of Job Access With Speech (JAWS) prior to 9.0.2169 and versions of Window-Eyes prior to 7.0.1. If you are using an earlier version of JAWS or Window-Eyes, menu and web content reading in Internet Explorer 8 RC1 may not function correctly.
