Hi Fanus and List:

To answer your query:

I purchased TR and Spin it Again well over 3 years ago, so I don't know the
current cost of these programs, but I am sure you will find that out on
their respective Web sites. I don't remember Spin it Again being very
expensive. I initially downloaded and installed it as a free and fully
featured trial (complete with annoying repeated background clicks and other
noises until the purchase (hence registration) was made!) when all those
noises were magically removed (lol)!!!
I found that Jaws was able to easily access almost all parts of this
program, except I found that the Preset Noise/Click suppression etc settings
areas were a little confusing for Jaws.
However, I now use it as my sole recording program, as it has a wonderful
"Recording Wizard" that will talk you through setting up recording levels
etc (and all other menus).
I use Spin it Again to not only do all of my initial audio recordings, but
it will also offer to chop the resultant large file into separate tracks.
However, I don't do that until after editing with Total Recorder.

As I mentioned previously, I found the Spin it Again Noise/Click etc
settings area confusing for Jaws, so consequently I only do straight audio
recording with no Noise filters used at all.

However, this is where Total Recorder Professional comes in:
It has an excellent Audio Restoration and Click and Noise Suppression " Add
On", available as an optional extra from theTR site. This is absolutely well
worth it, as it is easily accessible with Jaws.
The Add ons will write themselves into the main menu areas, very handy.
I therefore do all of my Audio Restoration, Noise and Click Suppression
easily by using Total Recorder Professional.

In Summary:

1. Record with Spin it Again to produce an unedited and unfiltered wave
file.
2. Using Total Recorder Professional, use this to do all general editing and
Audio Restoration, Click/Noise/Hiss etc editing as one file to minimise
time, then process this file back through the File Access area in Spin it
Again to chop and convert this larger file into separate audio tracks.(TR
will also do this, but I find Spin it Again excellent to do this).
3. If required, burn to a CD. (I prefer "Express Burn" to do this).
4. All my experiences and preferences of these three programs are purely
based on their respective best accessibility for Jaws, obviously all
excellent with Jaws.

I hope this is helpful.
I am also a musician (Technics Organ and Keyboard) so these 3 programs are
brilliant for my hobby.

Regards,

Colin

Hi Jim,
If I'm not mistaken, you can create a virtual soundcard with Total Recorder
to get the arrangement you want, but I never had any luck with it.
In the end, I just did as David has suggested, and used a second soundcard,
using one for Jaws, and the other for recording.

now, for some of my music recording and all of my audio editing, including
using such powerful Add Ons as Audio Restoration, Click and Noise
Suppression etc. I am totally blind, currently using Jaws 15.
Unfortunately, I don't know of any Help Podcast, but would be willing to
assist you off list if you need to get some starting help etc.

I have total recorder also, and when you use jaws key strokes, it records the

2014-07-13 Thread Fanus

Hello Colin
Thanks for your willingness to help. I figured out quite a bit. The only
thing that I can not manage is to let total recorder not record my jaws
keystrokes i.e. I recorded a stream from the internet but my jaws keystrokes
could be heard when I played the recording. Is there a way to avoid this. I
am also using total recorder pro.

Hello Scott Meyer,

out available to me)to the line in of my laptop computer.

If your record player has no "line-out" jack and is connected to your PC
soundcard with a "headset" jack, then most probably you will need to use a
pre-amp or connect your LP player to microphone line of your soundcard
(instead of "line-in").

> but I can not hear what is being recorded.

IN Professional Edition hit the Listen while capturing button (Volume and
Level Panel). This button turns on/off the listen-while-capturing mode. When
the mode is on, all sound captured from the sound board is sent to your
speakers.

Scott,

Glad it is working. Not sure about hearing what you are recording as well
but if you poke around a bit in some of the settings there may be a check
box or something that says allow monitoring or something like that.
This
may allow that. The other alternative I could think of, but now you are
getting into more cost, is running things through a mixer which allows
various input and output device running simultaneously.
I'll look a bit and see if I can find a way next time I'm in Total Recorder
Also, I believe you can upgrade to 8.5 at no charge, not that this will make
a difference in your current concern.
Best,
Al

Hi Allan
it worked, Thanks, do you know how to hear what is playing, plugged in

Scott,

Does 8.4 have a setup wizard under tools? If so, go through there and
you can get it there. There are probably other place to manually set
it but the wizard makes things like that easy

and then press letter s. When complete recording, do the same to turn speech

with most recording software that I know of, the only option is to use a
second sound card or external device (USB headphones) to allow you to
isolate/listen to jaws separately.

that's the only thing I know of that will completely isolate jaws and what
your recording on the systems sound card.

luckily with most applications designating what plays on what audio device
is not to troublesome.

and many inexpensive sound cards will do the trick just find, in fact mine
took all sounds and I had to manually move my audio player back to the

What I do is set Jaws to no-speech prior to making a recording with the dual

keystroke insert-space then the letter S. It is a toggle, so you do it
again when you want to re-enable speech after your recording.

Steve, I am not sure if there are, but I have a question for you. I just
put total
recorder on my computer a couple weeks ago, and I have noticed that when
you record
something, you can hear jaws say, record button, or stop button. Have you
noticed
that? If so, do you know of a way to get rid of jaws on the recording you
are
making with it? Jim

Are there any scripts for Total Recorder somewhere? It is quite
accessible
except for the process menu where the labels for adjusting the sliders on
a
process don't read properly.

You're right, and when you record using the microphone, jaws doesn't interfere
with
recording. However, when you want to record something else, like a file, you can
always hear jaws say, record button. We are trying to get away from hearing jaws
say anything. Jim

I believe there was a way to set TR to record from the "mike" only in its
preferences, which eliminated jaws depending on if you used a headphone and
mike, or speakers and mike setup.

I could be out of date here, but I remember folks talking about this a while

It's Dectalk Access 32, the software version of Dectalk, that won't work
under Windows 7 or Vista. The hardware Dectalk Express works fine in
Windows 7. If your computer doesn't have a serial port, like most new
computers, you'll have to obtain a USB to serial converter to hook up the
Dectalk Express.

successful with Dectalk Express as I thought I'd heard that it didn't work

Besides the obvious solution of unloading JAWS, which I'd prefer not to do

Hi Susan. I don't know of a work around other than to suggest that you
purchase an inexpensive USB sound card then you can have Jaws go through
this new card and I don't imagine it would then get in the way of your
recordings which would be heard through your regular soundcard.
Hope this helps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Total Recorder and JAWS

2012-10-04 Thread Mike O'Brien
Hi

I have successfully used Dectalk Express under Windows 7 64 bit with JAWS 12,
13 and 14 beta. A second sound card for JAWS should also work. Instead of
unloading JAWS, you can mute it by pressing JAWSkey+space and then pressing s.
To unmute JAWS, press JAWSkey+space and then s again.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Total Recorder and JAWS

Hi Everyone,
Using Windows 7 and JAWS 12 with the latest build of Total Recorder, I can’t
figure out how to do software recording without also including JAWS speech. On
my previous XP system with an older version of TR, I either had to use Dectalk
Express or to utilize a registry patch in order to solve this problem.
Unfortunately, I have lost this file in migrating to my new system. Besides the
obvious solution of unloading JAWS, which I’d prefer not to do unless
absolutely necessary, is there a workaround for this problem? Will Dectalk
Express work with Windows 7 or is there a total Recorder driver configuration
that might be more feasible? I don’t understand a lot of the help files about
setting parameters or deciding which drivers I should use. In fact, I’m not
even sure which is installed as the default or how to change drivers. Any help
or advice would be appreciated, preferrably with step by step directions,
although my sighted son is an audio engineer who will at least understand
whatever feedback I get. Thank you for your patience.

[JAWS-Users] total recorder v8.2 problem

I am using total recorder v8.2. under the options menu in setting I have it
set “Action for making new recording over the previous one, delete the old one
without confirmation”. However, if I stop the recording and try to make a new
recording nothing happens. I have to close the program and delete the old
recordering. I then can restart the program and make a new recording. Anybody
have any solutions to this issue?

yes. U need to change the sound card being used via the Jaws utilities menu

that is normal when you choose between the PC sound card and the external

I also use the latest version of total recorder with Win 7. To avoid Jaws
from speaking use a shortcut key to silence speech before you begin your
recording session. You probably already know the necessary keystrokes to
start and stop the recording so you don't have to hear JAWS talking. HTH.

I am not familiar with windows 7 myself but from what I understand,
Total Recorder uses different methods to intercede the audio under
windows xp and under win7.

Under win xp, I think jfw is excluded from recordings by default. I
do not know how that is on windows 7.

Somewhere in total Recorder's options - and i don't have memorized
where - you can exclude applications from being recorded with TR as
long as you are using tr's software driver for the recording. See if
jfw is set under the excluded applications on your win 7 machine and
also if TR uses its software driver for recording under win 7 and
make the appropriate changes. I think you need to use something
called the "kernel mode driver" (or similar wording) on the win 7 machine.

Finally, if you have a hardware synthesizer, use that when you play
around with those sound driver settings. And make sure you know what
you are doing when you experiment if you only have one soundcard and
are using software speech. There is a chance that jaws might go
silent on you if you set TR up wrongly or the wrong driver is loaded
first at bootup. set jaws to use your computer's own soundcard under
the soundcard settings and configure total recorder to only have the
total recorder active when the TR application is open.

And finally, if your computer blows up or gets the hiccups while you
trying out the different settings, you cannot hold this body or list
responsible for any mishaps!

Good luck!

Total Recorder does exactly that; allow you to record sound at the very
least. The higher the edition the more it can do. I use the Professional
Edition and it's a very powerful recorder, editor, processor and
converter for audio files. For more information visit www.totalrecorder.com.

Found this on the total recorder website. Wonder if that is why it's not
working?

Possible problems with Total Recorder's kernel-mode driver

- Unable to record a particular application

The system mixes audio streams being played before it arrives in the
kernel-mode driver. Audio streams being played can only be recorded in mixed
form. This is similar to recording from a line such as "Stereo Mix". It is
not possible to single out a stream belonging to a particular application as
it could be made using a user-mode driver. All appropriate recording
parameters (i.e. Record only streams opened after the recording has started
and Record only this application) are disabled.

Makes some sence. If it's mixing the stream before it goes to the driver
then it would mix the jaws in with the stream whereas the user mode driver
singled out just the internet stream and didn't record the jaws one?

Hi Sarah, Sound board mode can still be used in Total Recorder under Vista
or later, however you cannot use the stereo mix or whatever your sound
card uses. Instead you'll have to use the line in or microphone or
whatever. I'm pondering myself whether to get myself a key actually as I
love the program too. Maybe I'll treat myself after my re-sits or
something .

Hi,
Is anyone on here using total recorder and jaws successfully with vista?
When I had xp I could do soundboard recordings and record songs and stuff
with no jaws voice. I was using the user interface (ui) driver. But that
driver is no longer needed in vista and if you install it and try to
record it won't let you and says you can not use this driver to record.
However when I use the other driver that is supplied the Kernnel mode
driver then I always get jaws speech in my recordings no mater what I do.
This also happened in xp and that is why I used the ui driver. So now I
am not sure what to do to record. Totla recorder was a program I paid for
and was like one of the best programs I owned. I love using it.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Sarah A.

Thanks, I'm googling right now to see if there is anything cool or
different I could do with jaws or my laptop.

I know huh that was a very broad statement.
For example, I'm looking for a "welcome" message to download so I can
have it for when logging into windows.

Hi,
Yeah it is pretty cool... Liked it when I could actually use it. NO, it
isn't free... You can try a demo but it puts beeps in your recording. The
standard edition costs like 17 us dollars and some change now I believe. Not
quite sure. I got it in like 2000 or something and it only costs like 12
dollars back then.

Hi Gain, Chris.
I went on the net and googled sterio mode in vista and it told me to go and
show the disabled items and then sterio mode would appear. I followed the
directions to click the show disabled button but I still have nothing that
says sterio mix. I am assuming that it is inabled somehow because I never
get jaws out of my recording with total recorder.

Hi<
Ttal Recorder is a program that let's you record stuff off the internet. It
is an audio prgram that you can use to record internet progrmams and if
configured properly you can use it to record skype calls.
But, I like using it to record songs. You can record any stream from the
internet such as songs, shows, etc.

Hi Chris,

or 2001 or something.
So how do I find out if I am on sterio mix? I don't think my vista machine
even has anythbing like that like xp did. Odd...

Thanks,

Hi,
I met that I was using jaws and jaws was on, but it didn't come out in my
recordings. When i used the ui driver it only recorded the song or whatever
and not jaws. Now it always records both the song and jaws. Well, I think it
would be hard cause you have to put it on record and then tab back the the
internet where your song is and then hit play to record the song.

Am I misunderstanding something here? You said you could do the recording
without Jaws. Does that mean that you don't really have to have Jaws to do
this kind of project? Or, are you meaning that you didn't get Jaws in your
recording even though it was on and you were using it? I suspect that is
what you mean. But, if you can do it without the help of Jaws, unload it
when using Total Recorder and then turn it back on when you are ready to
do something else.
