I don't remember Spin it Again being very expensive. I initially downloaded and installed it as a free and fully featured trial (complete with annoying repeated background clicks and other noises until the purchase (hence registration) was made!) when all those noises were magically removed (lol)!!! I found that Jaws was able to easily access almost all parts of this program, except I found that the Preset Noise/Click suppression etc settings areas were a little confusing for Jaws. However, I now use it as my sole recording program, as it has a wonderful "Recording Wizard" that will talk you through setting up recording levels etc (and all other menus). I use Spin it Again to not only do all of my initial audio recordings, but it will also offer to chop the resultant large file into separate tracks. However, I don't do that until after editing with Total Recorder. As I mentioned previously, I found the Spin it Again Noise/Click etc settings area confusing for Jaws, so consequently I only do straight audio recording with no Noise filters used at all. However, this is where Total Recorder Professional comes in: It has an excellent Audio Restoration and Click and Noise Suppression " Add On", available as an optional extra from theTR site. This is absolutely well worth it, as it is easily accessible with Jaws. The Add ons will write themselves into the main menu areas, very handy. I therefore do all of my Audio Restoration, Noise and Click Suppression easily by using Total Recorder Professional. In Summary: 1. Record with Spin it Again to produce an unedited and unfiltered wave file. 2. Using Total Recorder Professional, use this to do all general editing and Audio Restoration, Click/Noise/Hiss etc editing as one file to minimise time, then process this file back through the File Access area in Spin it Again to chop and convert this larger file into separate audio tracks.(TR will also do this, but I find Spin it Again excellent to do this). 3. If required, burn to a CD. (I prefer "Express Burn" to do this). 4. All my experiences and preferences of these three programs are purely based on their respective best accessibility for Jaws, obviously all excellent with Jaws. I hope this is helpful. I am also a musician (Technics Organ and Keyboard) so these 3 programs are brilliant for my hobby. There is also a program known as de-pop for removing noises from vinyl recordings. It was not much money but off hand I don't recall what it did cost. I'm thinking less than $20 American. Hi Jim, If I'm not mistaken, you can create a virtual soundcard with Total Recorder to get the arrangement you want, but I never had any luck with it. In the end, I just did as David has suggested, and used a second soundcard, using one for Jaws, and the other for recording. Hello Colin Thanks for your willingness to help. I figured out quite a bit. The only thing that I can not manage is to let total recorder not record my jaws keystrokes i.e. I recorded a stream from the internet but my jaws keystrokes could be heard when I played the recording. Is there a way to avoid this. I am also using total recorder pro. Scott, Does 8.4 have a setup wizard under tools? If so, go through there and you can get it there. Are there any scripts for Total Recorder somewhere? It is quite accessible except for the process menu where the labels for adjusting the sliders on a process don't read properly. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/
Re: [JAWS-Users] Total Recorder Tutorials
Mike, it was me. I am wondering this. Here's my scenario. So, I am playing a CD on my computer. I want to record one song off the 30 minute radio show on the CD onto the total recorder, and from there, move the recording I made to a CD. Is it possible with total recorder to do this. I'll check the links out. Thanks again. Jim -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Mike B. I am using total recorder v8.2. under the options menu in setting I have it set “Action for making new recording over the previous one, delete the old one without confirmation”. yes. U need to change the sound card being used via the Jaws utilities menu and then going to sound cardselection list. I also use the latest version of total recorder with Win 7. To avoid Jaws from speaking use a shortcut key to silence speech before you begin your recording session. You probably already know the necessary keystrokes to start and stop the recording so you don't have to hear JAWS talking. Somewhere in total Recorder's options - and i don't have memorized where - you can exclude applications from being recorded with TR as long as you are using tr's software driver for the recording. I think you need to use something called the "kernel mode driver" (or similar wording) on the win 7 machine. Finally, if you have a hardware synthesizer, use that when you play around with those sound driver settings. And make sure you know what you are doing when you experiment if you only have one soundcard and are using software speech. There is a chance that jaws might go silent on you if you set TR up wrongly or the wrong driver is loaded first at bootup. set jaws to use your computer's own soundcard under the soundcard settings and configure total recorder to only have the total recorder active when the TR application is open. What about having the JAWS speech routed to a different sound card on your system? Re: [JAWS-Users] total recorder and vista with jaws?
Hi Chris, Found this on the total recorder website. Wonder if that is why it's not working? Possible problems with Total Recorder's kernel-mode driver - Unable to record a particular application The system mixes audio streams being played before it arrives in the kernel-mode driver. Audio streams being played can only be recorded in mixed form. This is similar to recording from a line such as "Stereo Mix". It is not possible to single out a stream belonging to a particular application as it could be made using a user-mode driver. All appropriate recording parameters (i.e. Record only streams opened after the recording has started and Record only this application) are disabled. Makes some sence. If it's mixing the stream before it goes to the driver then it would mix the jaws in with the stream whereas the user mode driver singled out just the internet stream and didn't record the jaws one? Hi, Yeah it is pretty cool... Liked it when I could actually use it. NO, it isn't free... You can try a demo but it puts beeps in your recording. The standard edition costs like 17 us dollars and some change now I believe. Not quite sure. I got it in like 2000 or something and it only costs like 12 dollars back then. Hi Gain, Chris. I went on the net and googled sterio mode in vista and it told me to go and show the disabled items and then sterio mode would appear. I followed the directions to click the show disabled button but I still have nothing that says sterio mix. I am assuming that it is inabled somehow because I never get jaws out of my recording with total recorder. Re: [JAWS-Users] total recorder and vista with jaws?
Hi, I met that I was using jaws and jaws was on, but it didn't come out in my recordings. When i used the ui driver it only recorded the song or whatever and not jaws. Now it always records both the song and jaws. Well, I think it would be hard cause you have to put it on record and then tab back the the internet where your song is and then hit play to record the song.
