Here's another way to make IE11 the default browser:

From: Carlos
1. Press Windows key+I, tab 1 time to, System, down arrow to, Apps, & press
enter.
2. Tab 1 time to the Apps list, down arrow to, Default Apps, & press enter.

3. Tab to, Web Browser, and press Enter.

IE should automatically prompt you that it is not the default browser when
you launch. in case it doesn't it's in the advanced settings of IE, with IE
open alt key to tools, select internet options. alt + tab to advanced tab
to make default you can also do this in windows settings win key + i when
windows says find a setting type default and press enter enter on default
app settings follow the prompts

IE should automatically prompt you that it is not the default browser when
you launch. in case it doesn't it's in the advanced settings of IE, with IE
open alt key to tools, select internet options. alt + tab to advanced tab
to make default you can also do this in windows settings win key + i when
windows says find a setting type default and press enter enter on default
app settings follow the prompts

2017-11-21 Thread Gene Stone
My Friend, husband and wife, Charles and Eva, both blind had issues with their
previous YouTube conversion sites, of three, so they found this and works great
they noted, Jaws and NVDA. So if you like:
pass the YouTube conversion site along to some interested person, the full link
that I have in my favorites is

http://convert2mp3.net/en/index.php

Charles noted: think that makes sure it comes up in English. It does other
video services as well as YouTube.

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube Red`

2017-06-16 Thread Judy Jones
I have Youtube Red, and do just fine with it on the PC and on my Android
device. The main reason I got it is so I wouldn't have to put up with
commercials while watching. I really don't care for their offerings anyway,
but when watching any video, you can fast forward, play/pause, rewind, go to
previous or next video, share what you are watching or add to a playlist.

The volume is a slider you can left or right arrow to change the volume,
once you press Enter on the slider.

Same thing goes for moving through a video, there is a slider you press
enter on and can left or right arrow through.

BTW, I am using Internet Explorer, as I seem to get the best results that
way.

I am also using Windows 10.

On the Android device (my phone), the Add and Share buttons are at the top
of the screen. There are also buttons for subscribing to that person's
channel, and for getting e-mail notifications of any additions to the
channel. These toggle. These are also on the site when accessing by
computer, but am not remembering how they look.

I use Youtube all the time on my phone, and one can also read and make
comments to the videos.

Does anyone know of an accessible Youtube to MP3 convertor? The one I
just looked at had an installer that was loaded down with third party
programs with opt out options that weren't accessible, so I canceled the
install. That one was from DVD Video Soft.

Another one that I looked at from Free Make wasn't accessible.

I used to use Youtube to MP3 convertor.org but for the past several
months, all it does is throw up a message about maintenance and to try
again in an hour or so.

It doesn't have to be free, though that would be nice.

Thanks!

2017-01-03 Thread Gene Warner

Hi!

My needs are very simple, I don't need to download whole playlists or
multiple songsone at a time suits me just fine.

I discovered that the first message about YouTubeBLG had actually
misspelled it, it should have been YouTubeDLG for YouTube DL GUI.
Somebody sent me a link to github where it could be downloaded but there
appeared to be no link to a Windows version, so I gave up on that.

While I was searching, I ran across several recommendations for a
program called Pontes Media Downloader. It sounded ideal so I grabbed it.

Pontes Organization is apparently a Romanian JAWS user who has written
some games and this media downloader, and some scripts for JAWS.

If you are interested, here is a link to his web site where you can
download his programs and scripts, which is also a small online community.

Cheers!

Another one that I looked at from Free Make wasn't accessible.

I used to use Youtube to MP3 convertor.org but for the past several months,
all it does is throw up a message about maintenance and to try again in an
hour or so.

It doesn't have to be free, though that would be nice.

Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube to MP3

2017-01-03 Thread andy t

hello here is one I use all the time and it works very well with jaws
www.convert2mp3.net/en
you just go there and press the letter e two times and press inter then type
in the name of a song or artist then press the tab key and inter and you
will get a list of songs the only draw back is you can only download one
song at a time then you must go through the whole process again I wish I
could find one where I could download several songs at once.

YouTube BLG is accessible with Jaws. I don't have a link for it but it works
very well. It does not have all the options that the one you mentioned has
but it does a very good job. It even does playlists without a premium
subscription.
Hope that helps.

That sounds ideal, unfortunately without a link it's of little value.
Especially since trying to find it with google gets you everything but.

Thanks anyway.

Hi,
There is an ad on for all browsers called Add Block Plus. There is a version
for every browser. Just type Add Block Plus into Google, and choose the
browser that you are on at that time, and Add Block Plus will install on
your browser. this will keep adds from coming up in the first place. Very
good at blocking adds.

Holger,
I don't know if youtube recently improved this, biut if you tab to the
video controls, there is usually a "skip ad" button, which JAWS will
read. I am using JFW 14 and Windows 7. This must be fairly recent, as
I was unable to find the skip ad button as recently as two months ago.
Good luck.

additionally, there are instances where skipping ads will not skip. this
depends on if the author has allowed skipping of ads. so if it doesn't
skip an ad, there's nothing you can do. just let it play.

You can also do a search on the regular site and have the results broken down
by
heading. If you are playing a video, there will be a list of nineteen or
twenty
items which are other videos it deems similar.

Hi,
I have found that I cannot control the volume of videos that much. I turn
the volume of the computer up loud, and when I start playing the video, I
turn the computer volume up or down. If you have a laptop, the volume up and
down are two of the function keys. If you do not have a laptop or do not
know which function keys are the volume controls, you can press alt + B to
get to your system tray, and press S for speakers. Then, press the
applications key and press enter on the first option and a window will come
up so that you can adjust volume and many other settings dealing with the
sound card and speakers. If you do that, the volume of the video will take
care of itself. Have a great one.

Hi,
There is no need to use accessible Youtube. I use the regular site, and here
is what I do. First, turn off virtual cursor. The letters J, K, and L allows
you to rewind, pause, and fast forward the video in that order. If you want
to find a video, just press R for region, and you will be taken close to the
first video. You just have to arrow down a little to find the video. If you
use IE, Youtube works so much better than on Firefox or Google Chrome. When
you turn off the virtual cursor, you can tab to the buttons that control a
video as well. But all you need is J, K, and L to control the video. No
reason to use accessible Youtube at all. Have a great one.

Tim and Kevin,

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes
away completely. It often happens after an MS security update. getting at
the volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that
work with IE11, though inconsistently.

1. The easiest is to change the volume on Accessible YouTube, which seems to
carry over to the volume on everyone's YouTube. Go to
http://www.povidi.com/yourtube/
Press alt-p for play, t hen up arrow to raise the volume in increments.

The other two methods might or might not work on the regular YouTube
website:

2. To reach the player and volume controls, turn off the virtual cursor with
insert-z, then tab a couple of times . (Thanks to Mario and another lister
for this one.) In my case, I had to shift-tab twice. This method did not
work the last time I tried.

3. Again insert-z to turn off the virtual cursor, then tab down to "theater
mode." Then up arrow like crazy to raise the volume. (this method also
didn't work the last time I tried.)

I'm sorry that I can't give a definitive answer, but I can confirm that
volume is a real problem on YouTube and that player control accessibility is
poor. However, one of these methods ought to work. FYI, my system is Win7
64-bit, and I've used these methods with JAWS 16 and 17, and probably also
with 15. I can't remember if I tried Firefox. I did try Chrome, but that
browser created such havoc on my system, as it does for a lot of people,
that I uninstalled it.

You need to adjust the volume in the Youtube player.

Open a Youtube video.

While it is playing, find the Mute button. You need to then be focused on
this
button with the virtual cursor off.

WHen you are on the mute button, you can press up arrow and down arrow to
raise

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread Adrian Spratt
Kevin,

Easy part first. While on the Accessible YouTube homepage, press e for edit and
you'll land right in the place to enter the information. Press enter. Then
press h three or four times to get down to the list of results. Each result is
also a header.

I've just been testing the methods I posted. I'm reminded that the function
Accessible YouTube makes fairly simple is finding the unmute button. It happens
that I was getting no sound out of YouTube today, and pressing spacebar on this
button fixed it for both this website and regular YouTube.

I realize that doesn't answer your volume question. I tried the alt-p command
and arrowing up from there, but today it didn't work. I simply couldn't find
any way of raising or lowering volume today. I don't know why access to this
control on either YouTube website is so intermittent. I can only report that
sometimes I find it, sometimes I don't.

It's true that different YouTube clips vary in volume, but sighted users have
access to controls to compensate. In my case, I use an external speech
synthesizer, so I can control my PC volume independently of JAWS. Without
consistently accessible YouTube player controls and an external synthesizer, I
imagine this is an annoyance.

You need to adjust the volume in the Youtube player.

Open a Youtube video.

While it is playing, find the Mute button. You need to then be focused on
this

button with the virtual cursor off.

WHen you are on the mute button, you can press up arrow and down arrow to
raise

and lower the volume respectively.

Re: [JAWS-Users] YouTube video volume

2016-03-06 Thread Adrian Spratt
Tim and Kevin,

On my system, not only does YouTube volume diminish, sometimes it even goes
away completely. It often happens after an MS security update. getting at the
volume control on YouTube is tricky, but here are three methods that work with
IE11, though inconsistently.

1. The easiest is to change the volume on Accessible YouTube, which seems to
carry over to the volume on everyone's YouTube. Go to
http://www.povidi.com/yourtube/
Press alt-p for play, t hen up arrow to raise the volume in increments.

The other two methods might or might not work on the regular YouTube website:

2. To reach the player and volume controls, turn off the virtual cursor with
insert-z, then tab a couple of times . (Thanks to Mario and another lister for
this one.) In my case, I had to shift-tab twice. This method did not work the
last time I tried.

3. Again insert-z to turn off the virtual cursor, then tab down to "theater
mode." Then up arrow like crazy to raise the volume. (this method also didn't
work the last time I tried.)

I'm sorry that I can't give a definitive answer, but I can confirm that volume
is a real problem on YouTube and that player control accessibility is poor.
However, one of these methods ought to work. FYI, my system is Win7 64-bit, and
I've used these methods with JAWS 16 and 17, and probably also with 15. I can't
remember if I tried Firefox. I did try Chrome, but that browser created such
havoc on my system, as it does for a lot of people, that I uninstalled it.

Insert z to turn off the virtual curser.
2.while the youtube audio is playing pressing j, k, or l will rewind, pause
or fast forward respectively. I wish there was a keystroke to do the same
with volume, but for now I've heard one must tab to a slider and change the
volume there.
3.
Remember to press insert z to turn on the virtual curser after you are done
so you can use jaws normally.

insert+z to turn off virtual mode.
press j to rewind, k to pause, l to fast forward, control+r or f5 to start

control+z to turn virtual mode on and resume normal usage.

[JAWS-Users] Youtube issue.

2015-05-26 Thread Justin McDevitt
Hello listmembers:

I have been a longtime visitor to Youtube, listening to many songs and
watching interviews and videos compatible with many of my interests
including, music, literature and history. Through all this time though, I
didn't use any of the controls: (rewind, fast forward, Pause, Mute etc. I
wasn't sure if they were accessible with my older version of JAWS.

Now that I have JFW16, I want to use Youtube more effectively and access
these controls. A day or so ago, I opened up Youtube through Firefox and
turned off the Virtual Cursor. When I started tabbing around, none of the
above-mentioned controls were referenced: just the standard Youtube links.

Any help/direction is surely appreciated.

Best, Justin

restricted access to its content, or I need to make some kind of a change in

At times safety mode is enabled, when you arrive to the page does it mention
that? It will not automatically make that statement; you will have to down
arrow from the top and it will state something to the affect that safety
mode is enabled.

2014-11-09 Thread Steve
Mike,

I wonder if it is a change in the version. I am still running 3.12.2030 I
think the number is. Also, did you check the box in the Advance Options to
make it screen-reader friendly?

It appears from what I've looked at that if you buy the premium version, you
are essentially using the same software except that you may get faster
downloads and more video options. Kinda like the erstwhile Jaws Home vs.
Pro which used the same program, just the key that was different and allowed
it to work on Pro and Ultimate Windows etc.

  Mike,

I don't know, the premium version doesn't have ads and it may download a
bit
faster. I used to see a slight delay after I pasted in the free version
before the download button appeared. But, lately, it has been pretty fast
and I'm not sure the pro version is worth it, unless there are download
limits on the Free version. I don't use it enough to have encountered any
  difficulty.

hello, finding youtube URL is the same as moving to the browser's
address bar. thus, window standard keystroke alt + D will work. it
will bring you focus to the browser's address bar. it works in any web
addresses including youtube. and since this command automatically
highlights the URL, you can simply tap control + C if you intend to
paste the address somewhere else. additionally, this command is not
specific to JAWS nor any web browsers. it works fine in internet
explorer, firefox and chrome.
