Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting
There are a couple of ways. I have an older version of MS Word but I go into the menus where you choose fon characteristics and tab until I get to "clear formatting" and with the text I want to remove I simply press that button and its gone. Another method is to select everything I want to clear the formatting on and then use Control-c to copy it and then I paste it into a Notepad blank document and that does it. I re-copy the text in the Notepad doc and paste it back into MS Word. Hi Kevin, Check this out: From: Melissa Hammitt I used to do that up till I learned of that keystroke to strip formatting from what I had done. It basically does the same thing without having to go through the hassle of opening a new notepad doc. ALT + H + E Melissa Otherwise you can copy & paste the whole document into a Notepad text file, this will remove the formatting, then copy & paste it back into a Word document. Take care. Mike. Kevin, no horse hockey here. I suspect you just need to delete the Word document text before you paste the Notepad text back. Steps: Select all in Word Ctrl C copy Del to clean it out. Open Notepad Ctrl V to paste Esc to remove highlight Ctrl A to select again Ctrl C to copy Go back to the empty Word document Ctrl V to paste. Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting
Perhaps paste the text from Notepad into a completely new Word document. Sometimes deleting the entire text doesn't delete all formatting. Another possibility is that your default document settings are causing you to retain some formatting. For example, I have word defaults set to double spacing, indented paragraphs, page numbering and suppress page 1 page numbering. I'm not sure how paragraph marks would be saved in a default format, but I've never tried and don't plan to. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kevin Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2017 11:08 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting maybe I'm just stupid but it doesn't work I copy the text from word, paste it in notepad there is no formatting I delete all text from word the page is clean except the document still says paragraph mark! -Original Message- From: Dave...Oregonian Sent: Saturday, November 18, 2017 7:46 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting Kevin, no horse hockey here. Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting
I have 2016. I just did a CTRL + A and pasted into NOTEPAD. Then I created a new Word document and pasted from Notepad into it and it did away with formatting except for carriage returns. This is because Notepad recognizes carrieage returns. Perhaps you are using Wordpad or something like it that has some formatting that is causing your problem? Re: [JAWS-Users] remove formatting
I was hoping that it would also turn off the space marker even though it did not say it. So here is something else you can try. Use the Microsoft Word command Control+Shift+* (NOTE - the * is the 8 on the number row. Because you are using the Shift, they are referring to it as *). This command toggles the Formatting marks on and off. When I was in a MS-Word doc, I turned on the JAWS Keyboard Help and tested out Control+Shift+*. Much to my surprise JAWS regocnizes it as the command for Non-Printing Characters On & Off. JAWS says 8 instead of *. Apparently, this command is not available in an Outlook message according to the JAWS Keyboard Help, which makes sense. Let me know if this solves your problem. Highlight (select) the offending text, go to the format menu (ALT-O. The first item should be Font. Hit enter, the current font should be the default. Tab across to style, arrow up or down to normal and hit enter. All of the selected text will be made normal. You can select a different style of font, size, all that by arrowing to the desired properties and it will be applied to the selected text. To do that, select the text, cut or copy, go to where you want the results, press the applications key (or shift f10) go down to paste special, and select text only. Another option is to do a save-as for the document, and tab to the box where you select the format you want; you will see plain text on that list, just press enter.
