I can see two (2) immediate challenges to using
 Google Sites for our wiki:

[1] All people that want to edit the site must have
 a valid e-mail
address at a private domain name like
 redefinedhorizons.com. This
means that I'd have to make all of the edits, or I
 would need to give
regular wiki users like Stefan and Peppe the account
 user name and
password so they could access the site. This will
 limit contributions
to the wiki, but it might also control spam and
 maintain the quality
 and organization of the content.

I saw the page. It is interesting but we need to give
access to whoever want to contribute to the pages
(except spammers)

 [2] I don't see a way to download a back-up file of
 the site. This
probably wouldn't be a big deal if we only have two
 or three people
making contributions to the wiki, as we could
 maintain an
 off-the-net backup.

Mmmh! Two o three people is not enough. Since
everybody can contribute depending the free time they
can spend to work around.

Re: [JPP-Devel] Wikispaces

2008-04-23 Thread Giuseppe Aruta
Hi London,
I still don't yhave any idea about.
I think that probabily we should find a new solution
for wiki page for at least 2 reasons:
1) to avoid spamm
2) more order

for the problem 1) Jon seems to have some solution.
Regarding point 2), actual OJ wiki page has become
complicate (and I have my part of responsabilities)
with so many pages and duplicates.
Whatever is the solution we can define some rules for
wiki pages.
For instance, after a while all the help documentation
should be transfered to PDF format; out of dated
pages should be removed from wiki, etc.
Anyhow we should save the possibility that everybody
can contribute to the project (see Enric's job) with
the easiest way (like the wiki way)

I'm not sure what the best thing is either. I'm sure
 this is a problem

Hi,

So the meaning of this tool is to complete a polygon that is touching an
existing polygon at two points so that the new polygon follows the boundaries
of an existing polygon without creating overlaps? At leat so it seems to work.
Very nice, and I could imagine real use for that when digitising new areas,
parcels or different landuse etc. But is it intentionally made in such a way
that it does not follow concave boundaries but leaves gaps between old and new
polygons?

By the way, I have been using for some time now OpenJUMP with a laptop having
both keyboard and touchscreen. Stylus is quite a nice and fast tool for drawing
but it has one drawback: double clicking on the touchscreen is difficult
because stylus easily moves a bit between taps. It makes ending of a feature
hard and inaccurate. How about if the line or polygon that is drawn could be
ended ot the last set point by hitting a key on the keyboard, Enter for example?

Hi Larry,

Yes, this stylus has a button, and tap on screen with button pressed makes
right click. I will try how it feels with Constrained drawing tools.

Another frequently used thing that is tricky with stylus is selecting
visibility from the check box. Layer check box has somehow so strict
tolerances that it is easier to use right click menu for toggling visibility.
All in all, I was surprised about how different it is to use stylus instead of
mouse. For pure stylus work OJ would need quite a different user interface.
With keyboard and stylus it goes rather well even the ergonomy is not best
possible. First step for touch screen users might be to have floating, user
configurable shortcut panel with a bunch of buttons just like the editing
toolbox is now. It might be usable for normal mouse work as well if there is a
need to use often some function that does not have an own button of righ click
menu selection.

Re: [JPP-Devel] Auto complete polygon

2008-04-23 Thread Larry Becker
It would be better if we could stick to mouse clicks with modifier keys
(Alt, Ctl, Shift). OJ's keyboard focus is usually taken by the layer tree
panel. Unfortunately there is no key to toggle visibility.

There is also the problem that has been reported before that the arrow keys
change the current selection of layer AND pan the window. This causes
confusion and is what happens if you simply add another keyboard listener
and don't deal with the issue of focus.

[JPP-Devel] Eclipse can't find PointImpl or PolygonImpl

2008-04-23 Thread Sunburned Surveyor
I've making good progress with my deegree CRS transformation plug-in
for OpenJUMP, but last night I hit a very odd road block. I'm not sure
if this is a deegree problem, or a problem that I'm having in Eclipse.
But I thought I would ask our expert Eclipse users for some help. :]

I'm trying to use the deegree PointImpl class in one of my methods. I've added
the deegree2.jar file to my build path in Eclipse. I've also added the
appropriate import statement. I can see the PointImpl class file when
I expand the deegree2.jar file in Eclipse.

However, Eclipse tells me that the PointImpl class is not visible. It
doesn't even work when I use the fully qualified class name. The same
is true of the PolygonImpl class.

Note: Eclispe accepts the org.deegree.model.spatialschema.*; import
statement, but flags the org.deegree.model.spatialschema.PointImpl;
import statement with an error.

Any ideas what may be going on?

Thanks for all of the help.

P.S. - Here is a link to a screenshot of the error in my Eclipse IDE
on Debian Linux:

Re: [JPP-Devel] Auto complete polygon

2008-04-23 Thread Stefan Steiniger
Hei,

just a note on the tool. I identified already a BUG. If you have a large
set of polygons, the refresh of the layer comes (probably) to early and
the new drawn polygon is not displayed (although it exists - but i guess
the calculation is more time consuming).

The only thing what helps then, is to move the map (drag tool) to get it
displayed.

Not sure how/if we can make it the way that the layer refresh comes
twice/delayed (I have no experiences with that..)

areas, parcels or different landuse etc. But is it intentionally made in such
a way that it does not follow concave boundaries but leaves gaps between old
 and new polygons?

By the way, I have been using for some time now OpenJUMP with a laptop having
both keyboard and touchscreen. Stylus is quite a nice and fast tool for
drawing but it has one drawback: double clicking on the touchscreen is
difficult because stylus easily moves a bit between taps. It makes ending of
a feature hard and inaccurate. How about if the line or polygon that is
drawn could be ended ot the last set point by hitting a key on the keyboard,
 Enter for example?

Re: [JPP-Devel] Eclipse can't find PointImpl or PolygonImpl

2008-04-23 Thread Stefan Steiniger
if it is not visible then you can not use it.
I.e. it sounds like you are trying to access (subclass) a class that is
not intended to work with. So.. it is more or less not part of the API
and is only for internal use. So you may try another class that uses
that class.

so far how I understand it

[1] All people that want to edit the site must have a valid e-mail

means that I'd have to make all of the edits, or I would need to give
regular wiki users like Stefan and Peppe the account user name and

to the wiki, but it might also control spam and maintain the quality
   and organization of the content.

[2] I don't see a way to download a back-up file of the site. This
probably wouldn't be a big deal if we only have two or three people
making contributions to the wiki, as we could maintain an
   off-the-net backup.

Re: [JPP-Devel] Auto complete polygon

2008-04-23 Thread Sunburned Surveyor
If the tool is implemented with a CursorTool I think we can correct
this bug by manually triggering the repaint method when the CursorTool
implementation is finished. We can likely do this by placing a
repaint() call in the gestureFinished method of the CursorTool.

I'm not sure if this will work withou actually looking at the source
code for the tool, but it is a suggestion.
