[k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
Yes, I'm running Android v7 and yes, battery optimization is off for K-9. And as many others have stated (search the web for this issue) turning off battery optimization doesn't help. So since I have had other email clients work on this device, but not K-9, I have to say that it -is- a K-9 issue. Or perhaps, a K-9 issue in conjunction with Android 7. But it is definitely not entirely the fault of the OS. Not true in Samsung Galaxy cases. Power saving OFF. K9 not checked to save power. Use to work fine then started messing up on its own or after some update. [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
If you're running Android 7.x, have you taken battery optimization off of K9? If not, that's your problem. Battery optimization can mess with the polling of K9. Go to Settings, Battery, (three dot menu) Battery optimization and make sure K9 is Not optimized. This is not a K9 issue. Many of us (dare I say almost all of us) are not experiencing any issues with automatic, timed polling. I'm starting to think it's due to "you get what you pay for." Yes, I've been happily using K-9 for all these years. Free and with no ads. That's hard to beat. But when a number of people are complaining about the same issue (this isn't the only thread about this issue) and the developers aren't responding, it implies they don't care. I can't keep pulling my phone from my pocket to do a manual sync to check for new mail. That's what K-9 used to do. And is supposed to do. Last night I started exploring mail clients and after trying three, I settled on AquaMail. Trial version limited to two accounts and unlimited in the paid (5.00 USD) version. After experimenting for about four hours, I bought it. No more "syncing disabled" issues. I'll keep on eye on this thread to see what develops, but I don't have too much hope. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
I have been having exactly this same problem with my Galaxy S6 since the release in December. It is extremely annoying and makes K-9 Mail useless except as an email archive. Apparently it does not affect all mobile phones but is particularly pernicious for Samsung Galaxy phones. I have two other friends whose Galaxy phones experience the same critical deficiency. Given the importance of email these days, how can any email app allow this situation to continue for so many months? Why is no one from the development side replying to this situation? It is clearly not something that the app user can do anything about. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
I've been using K-9 for many a year on various Motorola Droid phones and never experienced this problem. About two weeks ago I got a Samsung Galaxy S8 and I'm seeing the same as the others here. The S8 is running Android v7 and I'm using K-9 Mail v5.207. And yes, my settings are correct. I have five email accounts in K-9 - three are push and two are pull. But the only way I can receive mail is to do a manual sync. I did have it working for a couple of hours one day by deleting the two pull accounts and then restoring them. Polling was taking place every five minutes, but after a few hours, the dreaded "syncing is disabled' message showed up. > > > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "K-9 Mail" group. [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
Exactly, Sync is set up correctly in the settings, but it breaks after the first or second sync. Hopefully some devs can chime in here. Is there a a way to get a debug log to see what's going on and why sync randomly stops working? This is really a huge showstopper that K9 will randomly just stop downloading new mail. I've missed getting notified on some incredibly important emails. It's becoming a pain to manually sync K9 and see if I have anything new. [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
Yes, this is the same problem. The K-9 FAQ lists the subject: Why is "Sync Diabled" always showing? The answer is that the global settings for sync are not set correctly. Well, mine and other users DO have it set to "Sync Always" and it still does not fetch. Can someone shed some light on this difficulty? I'm assuming that the sync setting is the critical part, but other parts of the K-9 FAQ talk about K-9 permissions being dependent upon other global permissions. There are no permission settings that I can find in the K-9 settings menus. Where do we go from here? [k-9-mail] Re: Manual Fetch Only - Sync Disabled On Any Setting
I'm having the same problem. My Network Setting in K-9 Is set to Background Sync: Always. I also have periodic polling turned on to make sure I get messages that IDLE/PUSH may have missed or if it lost connection. After the first poll. K-9 goes back to Sync Disabled. I've tried just about every option I can think of and sync keeps getting turned off and I'm missing email notifications!
