Re: [Leaf-user] Network Card Problem
Don't forget to check/validate the HW. Make sure you swap out the cable. I have often seen a cable with a bad pin on either the tx or rx sides - usually oxidation on the connectors. Remember that the "link" light only denotes connectivity one-way so you can have a light at one end and still have a bad cable. Offhand, I do not recall if the local link light means rx ok or tx ok. (anyone???) (You can also have nasty stuff like split pairs where the wires can test ok on a pair scanner but won't transfer data at substantial rate or distance - but seeing as you don't see any data one-way I presume this is not the problem.) dbc. I would try compiling 2.2.20 and use that if you are running a 2.2 based kernel. You didn't say which LEAF system you are using. Using Linux 2.2.20 would give you the most recent version of the 3c59x.o driver and presumably fix any bad software problems. I'd also swap the hardware; could be a hardware problem. If this is an actual router with two interfaces, if one is working and uses the same driver, I'd just swap the two cable to the two cards and try again. -- David Douthitt UNIX Systems Administrator HP-UX, Unixware, Linux [EMAIL PROTECTED] ___ Leaf-user mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/leaf-user
RE: [Leaf-user] Network Card Problem
Patrick, For the last two LRP "upgrades" I have had to resort to using an older, but workable 3c59x.o module. Originally I started out with EigerStein, then went on to EigersteinBETA, and now I am using Dachstein CD V1.0.2 (forgive me on not stating what version I was using on the previous Eiger's). I have not been able to figure out what is wrong (or maybe my wrong's) with the 3c59x.0 modules that were supplied with the last two LRP release's. I just figured to try what worked before with the older 3com module and everything seems to work. If you would like I can send the 3c59x.o module to you that works for me and let you give that a try. Sorry I don't have any more specific information other than what worked for me. Re: [Leaf-user] Network Card Problem
Patrick -- there are two possibilities. 1. There is a problem with the LEAF version of the 3c59x.o module. 2. Your two systems aren't as "identical" as you think. >From my own experience, I know that Dell Optiplex systems do run with stock Linux 2.2.x versions of the 3c59x.o module, so it is unlikely that the LEAF one is bad. If the two systems really are identical, you can move the working system's hard disk to the LEAF host temporarily, boot/init it, and verify that the hardware does work with the RH configuration. Similarly, the other system will fail if booted with your LEAF floppy &/or CD. If they do, then let us know that, as well as which version of LEAF is failing. If they don't ... the usual hardware source of a send-but-doesn't-receive problem (assuming it's not a bad cable or a hub problem) is an IRQ conflict. What IRQ and I/O port is the problem NIC on? Have yu done the usual mix-and-match testing to isolate the subsystem that is failing? Then look at the date on the driver module and compare it to others you can find on the LEAF site or on the developer's site. Re: [Leaf-user] Network Card Problem
Well, it seems like you could *try* copying the working 3c5x9.o file to the LEAF disk --- but with kernel differences it may not work. Another thing you might try is the preconfigured modules.lrp for the 3c5x9 from www.pigtail.net/LRP. In my experience, Nicholas does a great job of testing these modules and keeping them current. Although I haven't seen him contribute in this forum, he does maintain an extensive library of modules, and he'd probably respond to an email if you sent him a query. Re: [Leaf-user] Network Card Problem (Module SIS900.o )!?
Well...You can upgrade to 2.2.19 Ewald Wasscher has a new kernel and modules ready for download. Including the sis900.o module. http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/ewaldw/kernel/2.2.19-1-LRP/ You will have to replace both kernel and modules on your LEAF disk. Choose an appropriate kernel for your usage and rename it linux. (If you guess wrong, choose another. :) At 12:58 PM 07/13/2001 +0800, Eddy Wong wrote >Dear all expert, > > I have purchased a new motherboard with on-board NIC but can't >load the module when using the LRP.
