Re: [LU] Incoming confirmed

2019-07-01 Thread Simon Hart via Leedslist
On Harrison I thought his end of season form was a big improvement on his early
season form. On that basis I’m happy to see him back for another year. If he
picks up where he left off, continues to progress and improves his finishing
he’ll be a big player for us.

Re: [LU] Kids

2018-08-22 Thread Simon Hart
I joined the list in the early days after finding out about it on
rec.sport.soccer, I think. I have an 18 year old daughter who starts Uni in
a few weeks. She's been to games with me a few times and was a keen
footballer before a problem with her foot put a stop to that.

I coached her team for 5 season which was great fun. She played for her
school and got to the National Schools final at the Madejski where they
were runners up. I would have given my right arm to do that as a kid.

He can finish with his left aswell. Not sure Wood could do this.

Re: [LU] 1st half............abysmal

2016-12-03 Thread Simon Hart
>From what I have seen of us this season we do seem to be slow starters.
We're generally poor in the 1st half but come good in the 2nd.

At the risk of putting the kibosh on everything, today was the day I
started to believe this team might have a chance this season. Forget about
the quality, there's very little of that in this league. We ground out a
result against an on form team that will be in the mix at the end of the
season. That is what it's all about in the championship.

Re: [LU] Gus

2015-05-15 Thread Simon Hart
Like many I believe it was Gus who was the driving force behind the success
we had with Wise. The downturn was marked when he left. He did a good job
at Brighton and I would have liked him at Leeds then but his troubles at
Sunderland do make me think again. Maybe he has learnt some valuable
lessons and could be worth another go. I don't know, if it were my decision
I would probably pass this time.

Re: [LU] A piece in defense of Redfearn

2015-04-21 Thread Simon Hart
See Simon Austin's blog here:
http://simonaustinsport.blogspot.co.uk/2015/04/cellino-on-sicknote-six.html?m=1

--
Cellino said: “My dream was always to think of Neil Redfearn.

“People forget, when I first came in, after just 24 hours, I put him on the
bench. I liked him and believed in him straight away.

“Then I put him in charge of the team. I loved him and we talked every day.

“And he helped me a lot, of course. And I appreciate that. And I thank god
that we stayed in the Championship.

“But when I come back, I have to make a choice. I have to decide what is
best for the club.”
--

From that it seems to me he wants a new coach in. Wouldn't be at all
surprised if he was trying to force Redfearn to quit to save the pay off.
Or maybe he realises Redfearns stock is pretty high with most fans and he
is trying to change that.

Agree with what you say Phil. You have to wonder if The Hock has been
brought in to hold the fort whilst Carbone learns the ropes. His under 21
side are looking good by all accounts.

The season hasn't even started yet so it is a little unfair to be getting
on Hock's back at this stage. He might just surprise us. There is talk of
another 5 or 6 new players coming in so our best 11 could change
dramatically before the Millwall game.

Overall I'm not unhappy with the situation at the club. It needed a massive
shake up and that is what we got. Whether it all ends well we can only wait
and see. I'm optimistic for the first time in years.

I seem to remember reading Athletico have spent a fraction of what the

The champions league is getting like the premiership with the same old rich
clubs involved every year. It would be good to see a relative minnow upset
them all.

John Sheridan's resignation was reluctantly accepted. He has shown a desire

It appears that john Sheridan has resigned as he is to be appointed at

A good manager / coach will take a group of players and improve them. Look
at Poyet at Sunderland and even McLaren at Derby. Both made a big
difference in a short space of time with the same squad. Leeds have gone
backwards under McDermot.

There are an awful lot of Leeds fans out there who are utterly delusional
over McDermot. They're still singing his name like he's some kind of
messiah. He's not a messiah, he's a very nice man. 2 or 3 half decent
performances in 2/3 of a season is not good enough.

Re: [LU] Is the new owner REALLY all that bad ?

2014-02-02 Thread Simon Hart
There is one other offer on the table and we have no idea if they are
capable of funding the club properly. They could be just another bunch of
chancers hoping to make a buck.

I like the fact Chellino demands success. No doubt he has made mistakes
this week, coming in like a bull in a china shop, but for gods sake this
club was in desperate need of a rocket up it's arse.

I admit his record with managers and bringing in players over the managers
head is a worry but I think that was a reaction to the abject shite he has
watched us play over the last few weeks. Let's be honest, despite picking
up results before christmas we were playing poorly and pinching points.
That was never going to last all season. There have been a couple of bright
spots, yesterday's second half for one, but overall we're not good enough.
It would be great if yesterday was a corner turned but I doubt it.

I can't believe all this has happened and the guy still hasn't passed the

Astonishing reaction from Leeds fans tonight. We have been a joke of a club
without a pot to piss in for 10 years which has left us with the worst
Leeds team I have ever seen. A rich Italian with loads of cash comes in and
immediately starts throwing his weight around and fans are blocking him in

Re: [LU] Calm down

2014-01-31 Thread Simon Hart
I agree. McD was a nice bloke who says the right things but I am surprised
at the reaction of some of the Leeds fans. I went to the Barnsley game
aswell and it was woeful. The sole tactic was to pass it to Lees to pump up
to the big man. Again and again. It was predictable and a piece of piss to
defend against but we had no other ideas. I vowed not to waste any more of
my money on the club after that game until there was a drastic improvement
in not just the team but the whole approach of the club. I am sick to the
back teeth of owners who think they can make a fast buck by flipping the
club once the manager has perfomed miracles whilst spending buttons. It's
never going to happen.

You can't get away from the fact that we are a very very poor team, far
worse than when Warnock was in charge. It's true McD has not been backed,
but I believe the players at the club are capable of playing much better
than they currently do. They showed what they can do against Watford. I'm
convinced if Poyet had got the job we would be a far better team by now.

I'm not endorsing what is going on at the club, just saying I'm not
surprised McD has gone and I'm not too disappointed either.

Didn't Don Cellino pump loads of money in to Cagliari and take them to the
top flight from nowhere? I know he sacked 38 managers in 20 years along the
way.

Whatever is in Haigh's trouser pocket. 15p, a button and some pocket lint.
Should be enough to get Bechio back.

Does anybody really think this latest lot will be anything other than
another bunch of potless chancers?

Sorry, should have binned the sig. Some of the old stuff that get's brought

I liked Warnock's comment about Hughes destroying another of his teams. I'm
sure some paranoid fans will take that the wrong way but it sounds to me
like at dig at Hughes and a warning to Leeds.

Re: [LU] Nail your colours to the mast

2013-04-02 Thread Simon Hart
Poyet for me. The start to our -15points season was amazing, the team
spirit was great and the wheels fell off when Poyet left. That tells you
something. I don't know how much money he has had to spend at Brighton but
he has done a remarkable job there. His players seem to like him and give
everything for him.

I would be optimistic with Poyet. I would be gutted if we appointed any of
O'Neil, Coyle, McLaren, Hughes, O'Leary, Southgate or McDermot. I would
take Di Mateo but he's a Champions league winning coach FFS, there's now
way he would come to a second rate championship club without a pot to piss
in.

Wish we had 12 Browns then at least we'd upset the fuckers.

[LU] Fwd: FSF Score Campaign (for Away Fans)

2013-01-16 Thread Simon Hart
I can't see how this can work. Home fans will be mightily pissed off paying
£35 for a ticket knowing away fans in similar seats paid only £20. Home
fans will just try and buy tickets for the away end.

The price of watching football has got out of hand full stop. Prices need
to come down for all fans.

Hmmm, fair point. But how often does that happen? Most teams that go up are
favourites to drop straight back down unless they invest heavily.

How many times do we hear people say "even if we get up we have no chance
of staying up"?

No team goes up from the championship with a realistic chance of staying
up. You have to get yourselves up first then invest in better players to
stay up. You can not assemble a team capable of surviving the premiership
whilst playing in the Championship, it's impossible. The players you need
will not come to you until you are up.

I don't condone what the stupid twat did at all, but far worse assaults
happen on the field, during games, between players all the time.

Having said that, given he seems to ignore his banning orders and has "a

It was just my opinion that the team had more purpose whilst he was on the
pitch and once he went off we were completely bereft of ideas. I'm not
saying he had a great game or looked particularly dangerous because he
didn't. But with the current players available the team is better with him
in it.

No night on the tiles. I'd had a few at home and was mindlessly watching
crap on TV.

I do think it would be good to have someone better than Bechio. A big,
powerful, good on the ball, goal scoring Ricky Lambert type would be good
but for now we have Bechio and Gray. Despite his limitations, I thought we
looked more likely to produce something with Bechio on the field than we
did when he went off.

[LU] Baaarnsli

2012-10-06 Thread Simon Hart
A few thoughts on today's game, my first visit of the season I'm sorry to
say, though I have seen all the televised games.

I thought this was a poor game between two average teams. Barnsley had most
of the possession, they kept the ball off us with ease at times. I would
say they were by far the better footballing team but they never really
looked like scoring. Luckily for us they had no cutting edge what so ever.
Marlon Harewood is still an imposing presence but thankfully he is no
longer mobile enough for the championship and he blew his one chance to
score.

After being very impressed with the Everton performance and recent results
I have to say I expected better, but even though we walked away with 3
points I was dissapointed with today's performance. It was a weird game.
For me, we were crap, but despite Barnsley's possession I never for one
moment thought we would loose the game. We had a few short spells
of possession ourselves but we too had no cutting edge. Even when we did
manage to hold on to the ball for a short while you never felt is was
leading anywhere. They had few ideas going forward and we had less.

Luckily for us we got a penalty which was the only way we were going to
score. I was sat the South East corner with the Mrs and daughter so had a
good view and thought it was a stonewall penalty. They criticized the ref
on the Football league show because in slow motion it was clear that
contact was just outside the area, but in real life and at full speed it
looked for all the world like a penalty. I do think the media are arseholes
towards officials in these situations. Thankfully Bechio scuffed it in. You
can't tell me he meant to do that.

Which brings me on to Bechio. I'm not a fan by any means and yes his touch
is shocking, but when he was replaced by Gray we became even more toothless
up front. We missed his presence. Life suddenly became much easier for
their centre backs because despite the ball bouncing off him, Bechio is a
massive pain in the arse for opposition defenders. His lack of pace is
infuriating but there is no doubt, for me, that a battering ram like him
can be useful at this level. I wasn't really sure why he was dragged off at
the time, but once he went off I thought we were even less threatening.
There was one good cross put in from the left that nobody attacked which I
thought was made for Bechio, shame he wasn't on. There was only one team
likely to score after he went off and it wasn't us.

I thought Austin looked fucked. I like him but I think he and many of the
team will benefit from the international break. If he gets a break.

Brown was Brown, the occasional good challenge mixed with lots of shocking
ones.

Byram I thought did well because it didn't look to me as though he had much
support. Every time they pressed down their left he looked to have to split
two players, which is a lot to ask of a young inexperienced guy.

I think Lees is a great prospect at center back. He didn't have it easy but
looks to have a maturity beyond his years. Pearce however, whilst
always committed, looked reckless at times. I thought Peltier did ok at
left back though he was never really put under any pressure.

I thought White looked exactly what he is, a converted left back. Yes he
has pace but he has no guile. He is most certainly not the new Ryan Giggs.
Today he was up against a player of equal pace and he didn't know how to
beat him. He doesn't have the tricks in his locker that a natural winger
has which is probably why he has always been a left back. Look at Diouf,
despite his lack of pace he can still beat his man with a drop of the
shoulder and get a cross in. White doesn't have that, he only has pace
which wasn't enough today.

Tonge did o.k. before he went off but did nothing out of the ordinary.
Sadly something out of the ordinary is exactly what you need from your
attacking midfielders and we don't get that from White or Tonge. Yes there
has been recent exceptions where they have both scored crackers, but
neither look likely to do that too often and neither look capable of
producing the moments of magic that change games and make average teams
good. I do live in hope that White at least may prove me wrong.

Diouf wasn't as good as he has been but was still our best player. It's a
shame there isn't one or two of equal quality around him.

That may all sound a bit downbeat but I still enjoyed the day and the 3
points. We're up there challenging whilst not exactly pulling up
trees which is a good start. If we are to go up though we will need more.

[LU] Leeds United - the truth, the whole truth....

2012-05-18 Thread Simon Hart
According to the article there are £13M of other costs of which £2 is the
rent.

Other costs are high though compared to other championship clubs, examples
given are Ipswitch £5M, Norwich & Reading £6M, Derby & QPR £10M & Leicester
£12M.

I wonder how much we spend on legal fees after Bates' program outbursts?

It's an excellent article with lots of good info but this jumped out at
me...

"That said, Leeds do have other important potential liabilities: (a) if
they are promoted to the Premier League before the 2017/18 season, they
have to pay £4.75 million to the liquidator;"

One of the often repeated conspiracy theories is that Bates is not
interested in promotion whilst that will trigger a payment to the
liquidator. I'm sure it has been said that the deadline for triggering a
payment was this season which is clearly bollocks if the article is
correct. Considering the riches available after promotion it would be
madness to hold back in order to avoid paying less than £5M.

So, either that particular conspiracy theory is total bollocks or we have a
lot longer to wait before we put up a meaningful challenge.

Bring on 2017/18!

Re: [LU] Surplus to requirements

2012-05-02 Thread Simon Hart
My own opinion of Clayton is that when he's good, he's very good, but more
often than not he's disappointing. I would have kept him because he's still
young and he might find the consistency you need from him.

I guess Brown has been kept because he's a good experienced pro to have as
cover for the midfield.

One thing is for sure, there needs to be a lot of new signings before next
season, 8 to 10 new players I would say.

That leaves us pretty thin on the ground with only 16 squad members, 4 of
which are young lads.
I would have let Kisnorbo go aswell.

1 Andy Lonergan
3 Patrick Kisnorbo
6 Robbie Rogers
8 Michael Brown
10 Luciano Becchio
16 Danny Pugh
22 Tom Lees
23 Robert Snodgrass
26 Leigh Bromby
27 Davide Somma
28 Aidan White
29 Zac Thompson
30 Alex Cairns
31 Charlie Taylor
32 Lewis Turner
44 Ross McCormack

[LU] Eleven told they can go

2012-05-02 Thread Simon Hart
Eleven told they can go. Clayton a surprise.

http://www.leedsunited.com/news/20120502/eleven-told-they-can-go_2247585_2757295

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has placed six players on the transfer
list and has told five more their contracts won't be renewed.

The boss met with all his playing staff individually on Wednesday when he
informed them of his decisions, and a total of 11 senior players could now
be set to leave the club this summer as the manager looks to re-build for
the new season.

Midfielder Adam Clayton, strikers Ramon Nunez and Billy
Paynter,
defenders Paul
Connollyand
Andy O'Brien, and goalkeeper Paul Rachubka are the contracted players
who have been placed on the transfer list.

In addition, Alex
Bruce,
Lloyd
Sam,
Mikael Forsell, Danny Webber and Maik Taylor are the players who have been
informed that their contracts will not be renewed and are free to leave the
club this summer.

Of the players to be placed on the transfer list Clayton has been the most
prolific this season with the midfielder having made 46 appearances,
scoring six goals, including the Goal of the Season winner, against
Leicester in November.

Connolly has figured 30 times this term, but Nunez and Paynter have found
their appearances limited. Rachubka has made seven appearances, and has
spent much of the season on loan, first at Tranmere then at Leyton Orient.

O'Brien has made 38 appearances since joining the club, initially on loan
in October 2010, but he has figured just six times this season.

Of the players not being offered new deals Bruce was the only one to start
the final game of the season against Leicester City. Bruce, the longest
serving of the out of contract players, has figured just seven times this
term, and made 32 appearances during his two years with the club.

Webber, who joined on a short-term deal in February, and Forssell, who was
signed until the end of the season last September, both came on as
substitutes against Leicester.

Winger Sam, who was signed in the summer of 2010 and has made 39
appearances for the club, including just three starts this season, was
loaned out to Notts County in March.

Goalkeeper Taylor, another short-term signing, was loaned to Millwall in
March with a view to joining the London club on a longer-term basis.
In addition to the above players, Ben
Parkerand
Mika Vayrynen had their contracts cancelled last month while loan man
Darren O'Dea was told that the club would not be making his move permanent.

2012-03-28 Thread Simon Hart
Nif,

I think you may be giving me credit for someone else's generosity. I do
remember meeting you at the Adolphi, and I remember giving a few listers a
lift from there to the ground, but whether they were on the same day and if
one of those listers was you I have no idea. I can barely remember what I
did last week.

Si.

Re: [LU] list down?

2012-03-27 Thread Simon Hart
I think I joined in 92, it was in the early days of the list anyway.

I see all tonights results went in our favour again, we need Donny to do us
a favour at Brum on Friday now. I can't believe how often this is
happening, none of the teams from 4th to 12th appear good enough to put a
run together. Are we capable?

I thought we were until I watched the Hammers game, where I thought we were
dreadful. All we did was pump it long to Bechio, let them have the second
ball then try to harry them in to mistakes. Socking tactics. Then the
Forest game, oh dear!

I was back to thinking we had no chance again then along came tonights
results. Unbelievably we are still only 3 points off the play-offs, though
if Brum win on Friday we will be back to 5, all teams having played the
same amount of games.

At least we're still in with a shout, just.

Lets be positive, it was 7-7 on aggregate.

I'll get my coat.

2012-03-15 Thread Simon Hart
It's the desire the team are now showing that makes me optimistic. A few
weeks ago I had given up on this season but I am now confident we will make
the play offs.

Re: [LU] Quiet List

2012-03-14 Thread Simon Hart
If you charge around like a headless chicken decent players will pass it
along the back line and play triangles around you and make you look daft /
wear you out. I think the dawdling is an attempt to get close enough to
press before they notice. If you are going to press you need to do it as a
team which to be fair, we have been doing better recently.

The next 4 games are all very winnable and would put us on 65 with 6 to
play.

Though I know there's not a cat in hell's chance of Leeds living up to my
school boy like optimism.

Oops I was only including home games but of course some of those orders may
be down to incidents at away games so the per match figures are much better
than that.
