Re: [LU] 1 0 defeat

2022-07-17 Thread nattan--- via Leedslist
James had 3 shots / chances.A good strike well saved,  another chance lashed
well wide and a tame shot from very close range right at the keeper I like his
pace,  effort and enthusiasm but he can never be viewed as clinical in front of
goal , despite his goal v Brisbane Roar being a good finish.
The point being made is that, at present,  we lack a cutting edge. Too soon to
know if this is fixable,  either with another CF, Joffy and Bamford playing
well, players getting used to the system etc or if it will cost us big time
I try and treat pre season friendlies for what they are , a way of getting fit
and used to each other

That's one of the points we were making .We struggled for goals last season
despite being a team who always 'went for it'
We have lost Raphs goals and assists.  From admittedly very brief glimpses (
plus looking at thier records) neither Adams nor Roca  are goal scoring
midfielders,  James  is famous for his inability to finish chances ( shown
again today) So when we are not even creating chances how are we going to
score- Bamford and aaronson barely got an opportunity between them
However it is pre season and this is the time to sort things out and address
these problems,  plus we are still in the market for a new centre forward.
Hopefully it will all come good, as it did under Bielsa,  when the season
starts

Re: [LU] 1-0

2019-10-20 Thread Nick Allen
I thought swapping Bamford for Eddie showed a real problem yesterday; the team
isn’t set up to play how Eddie needs us to play with him as centre forward.
There was a huge gap between him and the others, the ball didn’t stick when we
got it moved up there hence it fell back on midfield and we were overrun (or as
much as we are ever overrun these days). Plus, his one major break he should
have had enough awareness to square the ball across the box where Alioski or
Harrison was unmarked, rather than shooting from a long way out and an
improbable angle. Eddie may work alongside Bamford, or when we are chucking
everything at the last 10 minutes, but if he is to be lone striker for
prolonged periods we need to change how the rest are set up.

Bamford for his part, played well enough, missed a decent chance, missed
another when offside (apparently) and laid a sweet one back into the path of
Costa who should have scored.

I think in the end Bielsa wants Bamford at the top, with Roberts in the number
10 behind him, linking midfield and Eddie as an impact sub.

Thought Costa was again ineffective yesterday, Clarke must be seriously tossing
it off in training...and Harrison was Harrison, good runs, good energy, naff
all end product. That said, he was sharp to nick the ball for the goal.

Dallas isn’t a midfielder and Alioski isn’t much more of a midfielder. Douglas
doesn’t seem to be much of anything. White was excellent, and Berardi was
steady.

Phillips or White was probably our MOTM, although Kiko did the things he needed
to do, without much fuss.

Still, second eh?
Nick

Re: [LU] 1-0

2019-10-19 Thread Simon McNally
Thought we were poor overall today.
Bamford missed a good chance first half and the keeper made a good save to deny
Dallas.
Second half with Eddie on we didn’t create much at all. He missed a harder
chance than Bamford’s and the goal came from Harrison dispossessing their
defender and Kalvin’s finish seemed to go through the keeper.
Costa wasn’t great, White was excellent and I thought Dallas played well.
Harrison still can’t cross and I was surprised when he took Klich off for
Roberts- we seemed to get overrun in midfield after that.
Berardi did ok. I think he was helped by playing in a 3 with White and Ayling
and made some good passes in the first half. Some poor ones late on but he
wasn’t on his own in that.

Eddie didn't do much to be honest. He didn't miss as many as Bamford, but
that's a double-edged sword. Berra did nothing mental.

We were pretty poor in the 2nd half though, and really clung on for a win.

To be honest, nothing changes. I've said it before, sometimes we'll nick a
goal, sometimes we'll ship one. Today's goal came from a ball steal in their
1/3rd which was in the back of the net 3 touches later - so no time to think
and slow it all down to a crawl like we usually do. Kalvin's shot wasn't
great, as it was straight at the keeper, but it managed to get under him and
into the net.

Hopefully that will highlight to the players that we don’t have to buckle in
the last 5 minutes when up against it, and up against it we were. Rode our luck
for sure, but about time we had a bit!

I thought Bamford really got stuck in and made a nuisance of himself for the
whole game, as well as doing well in defence too.

I thought Roberts was anonymous when he came on. Irrelevant to his performance,
but what was that thing on his head?

Thought Costa was good first half think he had to defend more second. And I
think he must have won nearly every header that came his way.
Thought Alioski did well too after being on an early yellow, was under a lot of
pressure the whole game. They had some very good players.

Re: [LU] 1-0 forest

2019-01-01 Thread Simon McNally
Agreed.
The number one priority for the window has to be a new keeper. Saw a stat today
that we’ve conceded 10 goals from last 13 shots on target. I know you can’t
blame BPF for all of them but he’s been culpable for a lot of them. His
positioning is atrocious which I think is why he gets nowhere near some of the
shots and it doesn’t look like he’s made a mistake on first viewing.
A few games ago a said to the bloke next to me at ER that I wasn’t convinced by
Forshaw. He thought I was being a bit harsh but I’ve re-evaluated my opinion to
he’s fucking awful. Biggest issue with Phillips 3 match ban is Forshaw will be
unlikely to lose his place. He’s way too casual on the ball and seems to jog
everywhere, takes too many touches and puts himself under pressure.
The main positive for me at the moment is that we’ve got a bit of a break from
league games and hopefully some of the injured players are back for the game
against Frank Lampard’s Derby (as sky call them.)
It shows how tough (or shit depending on your point of view) the league is that
we’ve lost 2 in a row but have only lost 1 point to second and 2 to third.
As well as a keeper I’d be looking at a centre back and a replacement for Saiz,
especially if Brown isn’t close to fitness.

2019-01-01 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
Very frustrating that we've been gubbed by a very poor Forest team. I think we
were the better team throughout even with 10 men but even as we sit proudly on
the top of the league I think it's time to question the naivety of only having
a Plan A and also whether we really do need to strengthen at the back including
the keeper? I'm actually a fan of BFP but he's dithered today and has cost us
points in recent games.
Jansson and Ayling (?) are our only effective, fit defensive players at the
moment. Douglas is not a great defender and Philips will never be a centre
back. We are starting to concede a lot of goals now and I think this needs to
be addressed in January.

We still had enough chances to win 7-4. Roofe should have had a hat-trick. Free
headers and one on ones. Poor finishing.

Forshaw was off his game and Klich, whilst still getting on the ball and being
effective, is definitely not the player we saw earlier in the season.

Defence the worry for me but need Bamford back also.

Re: [LU] 1 0 defeat

2018-01-14 Thread {broken-address} Richard Walker
Yes I thought the 10 men battled well and deserved a point however some of our
play at times is lacking the basics. The amount of times Sacko miscontrolled
the ball was criminal.
TC keeps pushing Shaugjnessy into midfield but he's obviously uncomfortable
playing there.

I think people are now coming round to my views of O'Kane. Taking away the fact
he lost us the game yesterday he's a complete non--entity of a player and
average at best. Unfortunately I think that applies to a lot of the team
that played yesterday and I can only see our play off challenge fizzling out in
the coming weeks if we don't make a signing or two.

Cellino received dogs abuse for not signing players despite funding Wood ,
Roofe , Beradii and others. Just because Radrizinni (or similar name) bought
back the ground by selling Wood he's brought in a cheap manager, and a load of
overseas players who are either straight out on loan , playing for the U-23s or
not cutting it in the first team.

Difference is 'Radz' is a PR man.

Re: [LU] 1 0 defeat

2018-01-13 Thread {broken-address}
Their goal all came from Phillips slipping/tripping on the ref's ankle. that
prevented him from tracking Molina and blocking his shot.

I think this game just shows how thin our squad is once you get beyond the
first eleven or twelve. Sacko was useless as usual. To say we missed Saiz and
Vieira is a massive understatement. And yet again in a close game our best
chance fell to Liam Cooper and he missed the targe from about three feet awayt.
How often has that happened now? Just about any other player in the team would
have put that away.

I cannot for the life of me understand why we let our new left back have the
weekend off. That makes no sense to me (but then neither does letting Ideguchi
go and play in the nether reaches of the Spanish second division when we are
crying out for a stylish ball-winning central midfielder). And if it were up to
me, I'd already have recalled Coyle, as we have a total of one fit right-back
in the senior squad at the moment.

You've started going to my spam as well Rich. I've even added you to my safe

Gmail has decided Leeds are no longer relevant to me. Clever bloody algorithms.

Re: [LU] 1 - 0 Sharp

2015-03-02 Thread John Lee
Grim summary Dave, but pretty accurate imho. Unless we have a world beating
academy side who all come through at same time with an immediate impact, or we
have someone very rich indeed who buys enough Championship experience and hangs
onto the good young uns we have at the same time, then what realistically is
the future? I've always hoped there'd be some homing-bird attitude from Delph
and Howson, and that we could build a team around them - given that Delph is
still on the up that's not going to happen. Alternatively, you get a manager
who's pragmatism and outstanding use of resources gets you into the Prem, a la
Pulis, but that only works once a blue moon.  Watching Bamba's attempts to
shield the ball on Satdi took me right back to Carlton Palmer - woeful.  Only
consolation for this year is there are a lot of teams much worse than us, so we
should stay up?? Maybe?

Even worse are our long term prospects. I do not generally bother with the Prem
but whilst in the pub the League table came on. Looking at the bottom 4 -
Leicester, Burnley and QPR have all walked away with our Division in recent
years and look well equipped to bounce right back again. The other likely
contenders for relegation are Villa and whilst I know little about them, they
are a good sized club so their crowds plus parachute money will stop them doing
a Wigan or Blackpool and dropping down the Divisions. So next season we will be
up against the likes of these from the Prem plus whoever does not go up - say
Watford, Ipswich etc. This means our chances of anything better than a play off
place (where our record is abysmal) are very slim indeed. Yet to have any
chance at all we need to convince Byram and Mowatt to stay for a third season,
and Cook for a second one in the face of Premier teams trying to take them away
for double or even triple the money they can get at ER. Taylor will be in the
same boat of he continues to impressOur only hope as things stand is to keep
all these home grown youngsters and add enough quality to make it all work.So
for me, unless something drastic happens we are in trouble long term. IF the TV
money in the Prem continues as it is then we will in effect have a 22 team
Premier League with 19 actually playing in the Premier League and 3 temporarily
in the Championship and swapping with 3 more at the end of each season. The only
'drastic' things that could happen are either Sky and football going bust - the
talk of there soon being a £1m per week footballer is already out there- or us
attracting someone with real cash that they will pump into the club. Hopefully
Cellino has put us in a better and just as importantly clearer, financial
position so that someone may just be tempted, pour £10 or £15m into the club
and then recoup that and more when we go up. Both these seem unlikley at present

Re: [LU] 1 - 0 Sharp

2015-03-01 Thread Brendan
in fact the more I think about it, the more I see that whilst one of the
three who drop down will go back up the next season, the other two usually have
to suffer a complete financial meltdown that was brought about by the Prem
salaries, with the day of reckoning then arriving finally after relegation.

Look at Blackpool, Bolton, Wigan, Portsmouth, Birmingham, Charlton... Cardiff
are almost certainly stacked up high with internal loans.

Derby, Reading, Wolves, Blackburn were all relegated in the last six or seven
years - only Derby under McClaren are now back in shape.

Anyhow my overall point I suppose is that those teams in from the Premier have
in most cases minimal advantage: the parachute payments are spent before they
even get them and they are all in various stages of pandemonium when the
Championship begins.

Anyhow, after the recent purge of the Warnock era deadwood, who's left? Austin
has until the end of the season, what about the Morison goal machine, and Andy
White?

Yeah, look at the top half of the table Only Norwich have been in the premier
in the last couple of years. Actually what has happened is that more and more
teams are rising to the top of the championship and while it is true that once
there it is hard to stay up there, I'm not sure our chances of going up are any
worse than in the last few years. The key is going to be consistency, keeping
as many of the youth as poss, BUT adding to the team some experience, hoped
that the likes of Bamba and Sharp might be that experience but after the last
couple of performances I'm not so sure, oh for a Gordon Strachan!

Re: [LU] 1 - 0 Sharp

2015-03-01 Thread Brendan
Hi Dave,

Not sure if that's a given.

Glancing at the end of season Premier table from the last few years, typically
one of the relegated three go back up and the other two will have spent/bet the
parachute money in trying to stay up beforehand.

Looking at this year's Prem relegation candidates:
- QPR have a £40m fine waiting for them.
- Villa are big but have no money
- Burnley, well run, but who wants to go to Burnley?

All of them who go down have to build entire new teams and we know from this
season how hit and miss that is.

2015-03-01 Thread Simon McNally
I was furious when I left the game. It was not so much the result but the
manner of the defeat.

2 0 up after 30 mins and we should have been home and dry. Unfortunately all
our usual failings came to the fore. Defensive errors, inability to cope with
pace and movement, lacklustre midfield and very little up front.

I think redfearn has been excellent but he was out thought by the Watford
manager. They looked to be offering nothing but he changed things slightly and
every time they ran at us they looked like scoring. I found it frustrating that
we didn't appear to respond and try and do anything different.
Deeney looked class but you're left wondering whether we made him look good.
There was no plan to deal with him when he dropped off into space. One time
second half he dropped off and neither centre back followed. This isn't too bad
because you don't want them being pulled out of position but someone in
midfield has to pick him up but no one did. In the end he drifted over to our
left and suddenly there's a 2 on 1 against Taylor. It's basic stuff - all he
did was drop a few yards and run to his right but we nearly conceded as a
result.

I was surprised that redfearn thought Cook was outstanding, I thought he had
his worst game for us. He looked neat and tidy in possession as usual but all
over the place defensively.
I though mowatt was largely anonymous and slowed a couple of promising moves by
trying to get the ball back on his left foot or by crossing poorly with his
right.
Byram looked good in parts but there's very rarely an end product. Second half
he made a good break into the box , it opened up for a shot on his left but he
tried to get it back on his right and was tackled.
We also seem to waste possession continually with hopeful 50 yard passes or
with little flicks etc with a much easier option on. Austin tried to hit a 50+
yard pass across to sharp second half. Sharp was covered by two defenders and
wouldn't have been able to do anything with it had it reached him. Predictably
it didn't.
I don't get why we're doing stuff like that when we're winning and are
struggling every time Watford get the ball - we don't seem to understand how to
keep the ball.
Sharp scored a tap in but did little else, he's not big enough or quick enough
to play up front on his own. He also missed a sitter just after austin's miss.
If morison isn't fit I'd play antenucci as the lone striker - at least his pace
would trouble defenders.
All in all a disappointing day - gifted a two goal lead by an error and a fluke
from Austin (he'll never hit a ball like that again) but threw it away. 2 0 and
you fucked it up sang the Watford fans and they were right.

Like many I have supported Morison in this recent run, trying to claim that his
lack of goals was made up for by his general good play, then I saw Deeney -
scores one, lays another on a plate - 2 things Morison has failed to do, and
generally bossed our centre backs and took all the weight off his fellow

about 20 yards out and hits one with the outside of his left foot, curling

Were all over them until we scored and then they came right back into it, had a
goal disallowed and then their striker should have scored with a simple header
but saved by Sylvester the cat.
Bloody lovely strike by Murphy though, imagine he'll be off to Norwich or
Ipswich before the window closes

2014-12-30 Thread Simon Hart

see how such a poor team can be turned around.

The club is a basket case.
