A very strange day and a very strange experience I am glad I was there to witness a game that felt for the most part as if it were a joint testimonial for Pablo and Berardi who had their names chanted throughout, with the crowd alternating between " pablo Hernandez he plays for United with Gaetano Berardi " the Geatano Berra song and the straightforward " pablo Hernandez " chant. Both got subbed at the same time after about an hour with Berardi first and then Pablo both milking the deserved applause ( or to quote my mate in the pub afterwards " Berardi is shit and should have been f**d off 4 years ago, the swiss make clocks not footballers" He did follow that with suggesting the club was in the shit and we need to get rid of" cooper, Ayling , klich, Bamford an Dallas, and dont get me started on Harrison the useless c*nt" Back in the real world this game showed how far we have come, last season we were neck and neck with west brom , now we are 25 or whatever points better than them and looked what we now are, a team from a higher division. We totally dominated from start till near finish. We all thought we had gone ahead early doors when Harrison rounded off a lovely move but was given offside. Then Rodrigo continued his rich run of goal scoring as he prodded home from close range after a corner was flicked on to him at the back post. Kalvin then put the game beyond doubt when a decent free kick eluded the keeper who should have done much better. Bamford " Englands number 9" as the crowd sang sealed the win with a well struck penalty after he wrestled with Raphinha for the right to take it and had to get Cooper to help him get the ball off Raph So far so good, then things turned a bit shit at the end, first a mix up between coops and kiko ( where have we seen that before?) left their lad with a simple tap in, and to really spoil the day Phillips made a totally reckless and unnecessary tackle by the touchline that meant he was down for ages and looked seriously hurt putting his Euros place in jeopardy ? The players did a lap of honour in front of 8,000 appreciative fans ,rather than the 36,000 they deserved ,all wearing masks and being socially distant rather than the scenes and limbs they would have had at the end of last season So a strange day out and a strange game but glad I was there to see it, in some ways the end of an era with Pablo Berardi and maybe Alioski ( and who knows who else ) making their farewell appearances- thanks for the memories Roll on next season and a full raucous Elland Road Dave ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ Rest in Peace Guy, and wear your hat!

Probably a bit harsh re Harrison, who whilst being a steady player has improved this year imho. Ayling however, whilst he does ‘sometimes’ hit the odd great pass, plays some appalling passes, loses the ball in bad places, and entirely appropriately comparisons with Palmer can be made. Mind you, his goal against Brum has earnt him some brownie points :-) > On 2 Jan 2020, at 13:51, nick wrote: > > the operative word being 'sometimes' - at other times it is great and > that is why it stands out...however, I do accept that I am > nit-picking... > > On 02 January 2020 at 11:26 Robert Heath > wrote: > > "Sometimes both Ayling and Harrison's first touches are so awful that > the description "Palmeresque" is warranted." > Harsh, IMHO. Re: [LU] WBA
Feeling a bot ropey this morning - 6 pints and a pie on a school night. Can't do that anymore. My thoughts are that it was good to see us digging out a win especially the 2nd half rather than having 70+% of possession, dominating and then conceding a late goal. We were never allowed to play our own game against a lively but in my opinion average Baggies team. Again we saw big gaps in our midfield as Klich went wandering and Philips was left struggling against pace. Shackleton was left to do a lot of work and he did. It was his best 45 minutes in a Leeds shirt and it was a shame he got injured because he was keeping us alive. Second half he was replaced by Roberts and we struggled. West Brom took control and it only seemed like a matter of time before they equalised. Bielsa then subbed the sub when he realised that Roberts wasn't working as a number 10 so we saw Ayling come on a right back and Dallas moved to centre midfield no doubt to use his pace in tracking some very lively Baggies midfielders (especially the guy with the hair), but it was pretty shocking to see Dallas didn't have a clue what to do in midfield - he was totally lost. Incredible really. This meant we had to hang on and play on the occassional break. Overall, this was a great win against an unbeaten team. Being realistic, I think if we're looking to play with 2 wingers then our starting midfield Shackleton, Klich and Philips isn't good enough for promotion. Kiko - 7. Some good saves to keep us in it. Dallas - 5. I thought for the first time for a while he looked like a right winger playing at right back. He was terrorised and you saw that he is not a natural defender. Completely lost it 2nd half. Allioski - 6. Also thought he struggled defensively throughout the night but he did get the winner. Was there a deflection ? Cooper - 6. Got injured as he always does and now we'll see whether the decision not to get another centre back was a good one ? White - 8. I thought he held the patched up defence together at times and also did ok with the ball moving forward much more effectively than Philips did. Philips - 4. I think he's struggled last few games. West Brom were pacey and he lost possession a few times as he was not allowed to play his casual, deliberate play that he likes. I still maintain that as well as Philips has done he's not good enough to be the main man in a team looking for promotion and that is mainly down to his lack of pace and acceleration. Completely ineffective last night. Shackleton - 8. My man of the match even though he only played 45 mins. Was a one man midfield at times. Klich - 5. Continuing his poor run of form. He runs a lot but his output is nothing. Has forgotten how to shoot. Costa - 8. Had a poor game against CHarlton but had his best game last night. Looked dangerous and one or two good efforts. Harrison - 5. Someone on Twitter gave him man of the match ?? Yes he probably sees more of the ball than anyone, yes he gets himself into some great positions but almost without fail he messes up with the final ball. in the 2nd half last night he dribbled his way brillaintly into the box and only had the keeper in front of him. He nearly tripped over himself and ran the ball out for a goalkick. Incredible. Bamford - 7. Worked hard. Everyone going completely OTT though in my opinion. Never looked like scoring. I'd give Eddie a start. Subs: Ayling - 7. Did what was needed. Roberts - 3. Didn't do what was needed and got subbed. someone else came on but I can't remember who it was. Milwall next ... Re: [LU] WBA
Yes - it was a really good win, at home - especially after letting in late goals against Swansea and Derby. Although it was a tense last 30 minutes, it was a great match to watch and the atmosphere was top notch! WBA are the best side we've seen this season, and it seemed quite strange not to have the lion's share of possession - is that the first time under Bielsa? And listening to Bielsa's interview on the way home, he said the the Roberts substitution was tactical as their shape had changed after he came on and he needed to change things again. no reflection on Roberts himself. So maybe there is plan B! Ted H On Wed, 2 Oct 2019 at 09:00, John Lee via Leedslist wrote: > It was a good match Nick, and for the first time in a while I thought we’d > hold out at the back. Tyler Roberts - I said he couldn't play as a no 10 dropping deep. Fuck me, what do I know ? He was fantastic in that role and the way he drops his shoulder and accelerates away from his man is devastating. To be fair to me I said he could be a player and there’s no doubt he will be. I also said Bamford will score more goals than Roofe, and that looked like another dodgy assessment given the last 2 games but he came good last night and with a fit Bamford from the start of the season I-think we’d be 6 points clear. Bamford and Roberts up front gives us at least 50% more option than Roofe on his own. One last comment ... Jamie Shackleton. This lad is another Lewis Cook. I was in despair Tuesday night, tonight I’m in the clouds. Life is good. This is the b est it’s been for 20 years. Only game I ever took a girl too was Chelsea away (well home for me as I am from London) in mid-80s. Pitch invasion, fights in the stands, match abandoned (I think.) The feeling then was 'game over' - just make sure we don't do anything silly and the points are ours. We continued the second half where we left off - on the front foot and came close a few times before we got the goal that did finsih it as a contest. Just after the hour mark and with Alioski on the floor Roberts impressive throughout carried the ball forward beat his man and played another lovely ball to Bamford whose shot took a wicked deflection and went in. West Brom were beaten and should have been down to 10 men when Barry committed a foul "thats a yellow" we all shouted, 'ha, he's off its his second' except the ref bottled it. Then came the icing on the cake - in the second minute of injury time, with ER still full- no-one leaving early last night, came another great move , which ended with Klich feeding it to Shackleton down the wing and his cross was met at very close range by Alioski who tapped home - how he had the energy to be there in the 92nd minute after the running he had already done, I don't know - he has his (many) critics but you cannot criticise his effort or his stamina So an amazing 4 0 victory and back to the top of the league and QPR game put to bed (we think that Bielsa also got booked but no real idea what for) This was us back to our early season best and with Bamford now scoring who knows what the season will bring. SO a big apology to Alioski, Harrison, and Ayling you were all great and showed why MB keeps on picking you all, and a massive apology to Roberts for daring to doubt him - he really was magnificent last night As I said at the start, amazing, stupendous and spell-binding and I loved every minute of it Dave ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Jimmy WAC-COE ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Jimmy WAC-COE

I think you’re being harsh on Harrison. I thought he brought the ball forward well on several occasions and worked really hard off the ball, tracking back. Casilla is a million miles better than BPF. The way he confidently claims balls into the box makes such a difference. He also organised the players in front of him which you might not see on the telly - saw him shouting instructions at them quite a lot and there was even a moment when we’d got a corner when he was on the half way line telling Klich and Harrison what to do. For the betting inclined amongst you I notice that skybet have boosted Bamford and Gayle to both have 2+ shots on target from 4-1 to 9-1 which seems like a decent bet. I’ve already tried to knacker Gayle’s game by betting on him to score. I’m really tempted to bet on Norwich, Sheff Utd and West Brom to win each week as with my betting history they’re bound to lose! Re: [LU] LU WBA Tonight
It's not all doom and gloom. Even if we lost tonight and against Brizzle City. If Sheff Utd drew their 2 derbies, they'd still only be 2 pts ahead. If they won and we won the next game, then beat them at home. We'd be 2nd and have the whip hand. Just leaving Millwall, Brum etc. to beat. I have us losing a few and have us 3rd for the last 5-6 games, going 2nd on the last day, winning at already relegated Ipswich with Stoke beating Sheff utd in the last minute. It's the hope that kills you. I'm assuming Norwich keep winning/their distance. Can't see them on 98 points but it might happen. https://www.worldfootball.net/table_calculator/eng-championship/ -Original Message- From: Leedslist On Behalf Of Nicholas Armit via Leedslist Sent: 01 March 2019 13:55 To: nick ; Leeds List ; nat...@sky.com Subject: Re: [LU] LU WBA Tonight I think that is one thing we can (maybe) all agree on this season. Re: [LU] LU WBA Tonight
I watched WBA v Sheff Utd on Sky last week and whilst they lost it is clear that WBA have a few premier leauge players expecially in attacking midfield positions who can hit you on the break with pace. They've also got Gayle up front who was complete rubbish but we know he can score goals. I am concerned about our midfield particulary Philips and Klich against pace and I think they will hit us time and time again on the break. So I thoroughly expect us to lose tonight (1-3) but we'll all be pissed and up for it so you never know what might happen in these Friday night games? ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Jimmy WAC-COE ___ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: https://mailman.gn.apc.org/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email leedslist-unsubscr...@gn.apc.org Find us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/leedslist/ RIP Jimmy WAC-COE

Re: [LU] LU WBA Tonight
It’s not doom and gloom to me, it’s reality. We can still lose and go up. Norwich and Sheff Utd can and will still lose games and drop points. Sheff U have a derby and us to play. I don’t care how we go up, as long as we go up. I don’t fancy us in the play offs. It might have to be next season. So be it. You’re either one of those people who has LOVE, LIFE, LIVE cushions and prints around the house, or you’re not. I’m definitely not! We played well in patches the other day, a match fit Bamford could easily have scored one, one of the other pinball moments could have gone in. We could have snatched a 2-1 win. We didn’t. We lost to a team who’d previously lost 7 on the bounce. Make of that what you will.
