Re: [LegacyUG] numbering

2006-11-03 Thread Beth Gay

Hi Naomah,

This may work. Try importing the gedcom file again to a new database.
Before importing check the option Try to Keep Original Record ID
Numbers (RINs).

Best regards,

Since I do not remember what was and was not available in the free Vs. I

Anyway, I use the Ahnentafel / d'Aboville Systems. In the program I come up

I should be number 1

entered as User Number.
How can I get it to sort and use my numbering systems?

Lloyd,

I agree with Cathy that it certainly sounds as though there are residual
Divorced Events left. From what you say you have done a search to ensure
that there are no Divorced Events in your files so I would do a FileFile
MaintenanceMaster List Cleanup, and check the boxes for events. It may be
some were not deleted correctly by the program.

Re: [LegacyUG] IntelliShare merge message

2006-11-03 Thread ronald ferguson

Richard,

I take your point about meaningless messages. What I was trying to suggest
was that if the 962 files were dupilicates then perhaps it means that the
modified date in the files they were coming from was before the modified
date of those they were merging into and, therefore, there may be later
details in your files.

Hi Ron,

I'm not sure what you mean by a later version of the 962 files.

I don't think I should be too concerned about the message: There are 962
individuals with a modified date that is before the start of

this IntelliShare merge process.

I don't appreciate Legacy giving me meaningless messages like that.
I would appreciate a message reminding me I need to do a check/repair
because, although duplicate Individuals were deleted from the file in
merging, the Picture records linked to deleted Individuals' source
citations have not been removed. The check/repair is a very important step
following a merge.

Whenever I do an IntelliShare merge, at completion, I get asked if I want
to view the log of the merge. This log always looks about the same, in
the most recent case:

There are 962 individuals with a modified date that is before the start
of this IntelliShare merge process.

There follows a line for each of the 962 persons.

I just merged a Lorraine, France subset, 612 Individuals, back into my
main file, 26000 Individuals, after adding a few new names and source
citations. The 962 names probably includes 150 from the subset file and
the rest are myself, my family and people not recently modified. It seems
to me all 26,000 should have modified date that is before the start. Any
ideas what it means?

[LegacyUG] multimedia files and locations

2006-11-03 Thread malkajef
I am trying to organize the pictures I included in my Legacy file. In doing
so I am encountering several problems I could use help with:

1) I have customized Legacy by setting a default path for pictures. Yet,
despite that, when I try to add a picture, the folder that Legacy opens for
me to choose from is not the one I set in the customize screen. Could be a
Legacy bug.

2) By looking at View\master lists\Picture Locations I get a list that shows
5 locations on my hard drive. I would like to put all the images in the one
default location, but to move them there I need to know which pictures are
in these different locations so I can move them and there seems to be no way
for Legacy to identify them for me. That is, there is no Show List button
to click on.

Is there another way to identify which images are in which locations? If I
knew which Access table actually has that information, I could do it that
way too. Anyone know?

Thanks.

True until you restart Legacy. Then it goes back to the My documents
folder. Either way, the fact that it does not follow what is set as the
default folder in customization suggests a simple bug in the program. (Easy
to do. I've done the same).

It sticks to the last folder to have been opened on mine even on restart.
They all happen to be in My Documents but there are 5 of them and it always
opens at the last one used. I still have C:\Legacy\Pictures\ set as default
but it is empty and Legacy never opens at that file. As I say I do not wish
to have a default which would be summoned automatically.

Re: [LegacyUG] multimedia files and locations

2006-11-03 Thread Brian/Support

Jeff,

You can get a report of all your picture locations.

Go to View Scrapbook
On that screen you can select the Pictures to view in the scrap book but
it also has a print picture list button that will generate a report of
all the pictures in the selected areas.

When you click on the print button a second window will open where you
can select which picture details to include.

RE: [LegacyUG] Re: multimedia files and locations

2006-11-03 Thread Cary
I use a hierarchical set of folders for family pictures. Legacy
successfully finds all the pictures I've linked into legacy in these
folders, but because I have the pics in a logical (to me) order I can also
find what I want for any other purpose. As I have scanned in several
family members' photo albums, I have many pics not chosen for Legacy in
the same folders (all backed up, of course)

For Documents I use one folder with names that begin with the Legacy
Source File ID number and can really only find them from that number. I
also have a file of icons I use with some events (sailing ship for early
immigration to America, Minuteman for fighting in American Revolution,
Caduceus, etc.)

I'm having trouble understanding what benefit there would be in having all
pics in Legacy in one folder. Individual ones would be hard to find and I
would either need a duplicate in a special Legacy folder or to keep family
pics in 2 places. Legacy looks where I used last first, but it is easy to
find pics in the hierarchy if that's not where the next pic to enter is.

Jeff,

I don't know a way to find the locations of all the picutures directly
either.

wrt 1. In the case of pictures for eg., Legacy opens the last folder used.

Personally I am rather glad it does as I have found the need for more than

one picture file. Initially I had one containing jpgs of documents and one

containg jpgs of pictures but the former became just too big for
convenience
so I have created others. I cannot really, therefore, have a default as
such.

I found the Access table that lists the images and ther locations. It is

TBLbr. So I have the answer to #2.

#1 is still valid. The customaized picture pad does not seem to stick.

Re: [LegacyUG] multimedia files and locations

2006-11-03 Thread malkajef

Thanks Brian. The support in Legacy is unbelievably good!

Good to know. I've not explored the scrapbook yet. (Found my
info through Access working on a copy of the file).

Do you know why my installation would not follow the picture location I set
for it? I'm working with the latest version in Windows XP.

Actually, its defaulting to the last folder used for pictures is fine with
me, but unlike Ronald Ferguson's, mine only does so until I close it and
restart Legacy. Then it loses that ability. Maybe a wrong setting I have
set somewhere?

Jeff,

You can get a report of all your picture locations.

Go to View Scrapbook
On that screen you can select the Pictures to view in the scrap book but
it also has a print picture list button that will generate a report of all
the pictures in the selected areas.

When you click on the print button a second window will open where you can
select which picture details to include.

Re: [LegacyUG] Re: multimedia files and locations

2006-11-03 Thread malkajef

Excellent points. I'm rethinking my approach.

Originally my idea is to have a way to easily locate and include all the
images I used for Legacy when I shared my data with someone else. But I've
since discovered that Passage Express does a good job of finding them
wherever they are so that point becomes moot. I suppose the Legacy backup
of multimedia does it too.

Just feeling my way as I learn the ins and outs of Legacy.

Cary,

I started off your way, or something very similar, but rapidly became
disenchanted with continually having to change folders when inserting a new
item. I really hate the way paths are selected but accept that it's a method
in common usage and I can't think of a better. I accept that my storage
involves duplicates and hence extra disc space but the latter is now pretty
cheap.

Nevertheless, I think it is up to each of us to individually choose
whichever method suits us best.

Ron Ferguson

BTW Jeff, I didn't know about using Scrapbook either as it's a function I
don't use. Obvious when one thinks about it but, like you, would have
expected it to be an option under Picture Location (as well).

Yvonne,

Open their spouses list by clicking on the spouse Icon. There is a sort
button there to order them by date. Remember though that blank dates
sort to the top of the list.

The two large arrows in the lower right corner allow you to manually
order the marriages if you know the order but not the dates.

RE: [LegacyUG] Marriages in Chronological order

2006-11-03 Thread Robert Carneal
Yes. Assume John D'Palmer is the person of interest has married six times.
(Might as well as make it rough. g)

He has married:
Lucy Brown, 1920-03-04
Karen Anderson, 1910-12-12
Tracy Newman, 1922-05-29
Christine Willis, 1935-08-20
Denise Duncan, 1942-10-25
Kathy Stephens, 1930-01-01

Do this:
1. Ok, highlight John D'Palmer.
2. Click on the Spouse icon for John D'Palmer (NOT his wife, you want John
D'Palmer in my example)
3. A list of John's marriages comes up, badly out of order chronological
order. Click on the Sort button.
4. Now you will see:

Karen Anderson, 1910-12-12
Lucy Brown, 1920-03-04
Tracy Newman, 1922-05-29
Kathy Stephens, 1930-01-01
Christine Willis, 1935-08-20
Denise Duncan, 1942-10-25

For those of us who wish to sort a list of spouses by name, or where the
marriage date is not known but the *order* of marriages are known, you can
do this instead:
1. Ok, highlight John D'Palmer.
2. Click on the Spouse icon for John D'Palmer (NOT his wife, you want John
D'Palmer in my example)
3. Now highlight a spouse that is out of order.
4. At the bottom right of the spouse window are Up and Down arrows. Use this
move the spouse into an order you prefer.
