RE: [LegacyUG] Records in Research Guidance

2007-04-14 Thread John D. Taylor III
Following up on a promise, - I said I would post anything that I found on
the census records in the “Records in Research Guidance.” I haven’t been
ignoring my promise; it’s just that after searching online, and calling and
going to the church libraries, I have still not had any luck.

Since Legacy suggested these census records in the research suggestions, I
think I’m going to wait until they come up with the location of these
records and post them in the Research Guidance Center. Should anyone else
figure out where these records are that Legacy is talking about, - would you
please let us all know?

John Geoff,

I don't know anything more than what I posted. These sheet do not say where
the records can be found other than stating that these records are not
available at National Archives, would be available throught the LjDS, State
Archives and in books.

I don't know where I got it. This was back when I was going to remember all
this stuff. Boy was I dumb!!! Sometime I just hate myself!!

It is two sheets lists info for 50 states. I could have it scanned emailed
to you or I would be more than glad to put in the mail to you. To me that is
what this hobby/addiction is all about helping sharing with each other.

RE: [LegacyUG] Records in Research Guidance

2007-04-14 Thread John D. Taylor III
Sorry, It was at the start of this thread. When using research guidance for
a person born about 1699 and died 1756 in the Suggested Sources tab, in
Goal; window, among other suggestions are, Virginia State Census, 1699,
Virginia State Census, 1701, and Virginia State Census, 1703. I have never
heard of these censuses, and after a web search, it appears no one else has
either. Does anyone know what Legacy it talking about here?

There has been a lot of talk about it on the thread. Then Ann posted this. .
. Maybe this might be helpful, I have a pamphlet with the following:

Schedule of Colonial, Territorial and State Census Records
These are not available at National Archives would be available through LDS,
State Archives and in books. 25 cent donation. I am not sure where I got
this,Probably before 1998. For Virginia is has:
1623, 1624, 1625, 1634, 1699, 1701, 1703, 1779, 1798

Ann
New Mexico, USA

I have been trying to locate all of these, including the Schedule of
Colonial, Territorial and State Census Records booklet Ann is talking about
with no luck.

The first thing one must notice is that in the years given there was no State of Virginia. It was a
colony of the British Empire. That means that there could be no State Census. With that in mind a
search of colonial records, both American and British, might be in order.

Go to www.worldcat.org and cut paste the title. (Sometimes it works
best to do a portion of a title or use key words.) Then type in your
city state or zipcode. (I'm not sure how that works for folks outside
of the US.) Worldcat provides a list of libraries by distance from your
zipcode that have that title. Since I see that you're in CA like me, I
typed in my Long Beach area zip code. This book is at 15 libraries
within 50 miles of my home. This is one awesome website!

I don't know anything more than what I posted. These sheet do not say
where
the records can be found other than stating that these records are not
available at National Archives, would be available throught the LjDS,
State
 Archives and in books.

I don't know where I got it. This was back when I was going to remember

It is two sheets lists info for 50 states. I could have it scanned

Could I have a copy of these pages? Email address is below.

1623-24-25 are related the the persons living and killed in VA in the
Indian uprising around that time. Not sure what 1634 is. 1699, 1701,
and 1703 are colony wide Rent Rolls. I believe 1779 is either a tax
list or the Oaths of Allegiance for the Revolutionary War. 1798 I
believe is the Federal Direct Tax Census, but I have only heard of it
in Mass and Maine, so this may be another VA tax listing.

No, Ann, - Please respond to all of us. The Research Guidance does not show
where these records can be found. If they really exist, then they could be
helpful with me breaking down a long-standing brick wall. This is great

I could have it scanned
emailed
to you or I would be more than glad to put in the mail to you. To me that
is
what this hobby/addiction is all about helping sharing with each other.

When I Google Schedule of Colonial, Territorial and State Census Records, I
get a hit for archivists newsletter - IIBulldog/I/I, Maryland State
Archives
Included in THE ARCHIVISTS' BULLDOG for 10 July 1989, about a 1/3 of the way
down the page, that contains a statement referring to some records that apply
to Maryland that sound similar to the records in question here. Those records
were located in London but were incomplete and contained no names.
For what it's worth..

RE: [LegacyUG] Records in Research Guidance

2007-04-06 Thread John D. Taylor III
The records that we are referring to are Virginia records. I couldn’t find
them on the web either. They may be in a database somewhere on the web, but
I’m going to wait for the information from Ann, and contact the LDS church.
