The only way you can see where pictures are linked is in the View Scrapbook and print a media list. You can narrow it down to marriage pictures. RE: [LegacyUG] Lengthy notes in Legacy 8
Paula, If you are in the Media Gallery and you double click the pdf it will open the pdf up in Adobe Reader. You are correct in that the contents of the pdf will not print in reports. There are a couple of workarounds for this. You can save the report as a rich text file and open it in MS Word (or equivalent) and then copy and paste or insert the pdf where you want it (later version of MS Word can actually open pdfs where you can edit them). If you are doing a book in the Publishing Center you can insert a place holder for the pdf and then you can pull the place holder pages and insert the pdf later. Ed, There is one thing I would like to mention and I really should have mentioned it early. The story that the man wrote, you might have some copyright issues unless he gave you permission to copy it in its entirety, especially if you are planning on printing it as part of your own research. Even if he gave you permission to use it in its entirety, you still need to make sure that you give him proper credit for it (source citation). Re: [LegacyUG] One Direct Line Report
Jane, If you can get the correct individuals tagged, then even if the ancestor report doesn't have a print for tagged people option (I don't think it does), you can still copy the tagged people (maybe the term is export?) to a new, separate family file (fdb). You can do a Descendants tag from your ancestor, and then do an Ancestor Report of your tagged ancestors. Jane, I use the research notes for my own notes about outstanding research (I mean, research yet to be completed, haha). Once the research is completed, verified, then I enter events or update birth date, etc., and enter source citations. If I understand your situation, using the research notes field is perfect. RE: [LegacyUG] Research notes
Jane, Here is what I do. I use the General Notes for biographical information. I like to write at least a paragraph (usually quite a bit more) on every one of my direct line ancestors and their siblings and siblings spouses. Basically it is a synopsis of their life. It gives me a bit of an overview in a condensed format. I use the Research Notes for my current theories, thoughts, dilemmas, negative evidence etc. These are just notes to myself really so that I know what I am thinking. I use the Medical Notes for the obvious purpose. I actually record quite a bit of stuff in here. You can uncover quite a bit of interesting info from the newspapers and such about what sort of ailments people were suffering from. I also like to record if they died at home or in the hospital it that is known. I use the notes fields that are attached to the vital events (birth, baptism/christening, death, burial) for whatever might pertain to those specific fields. I also use the marriage notes and events notes, again, for things that pertain specifically to those areas. I like to keep information closely associated with the fact it relates to so that I can find what I am looking for quickly. I also like how it prints in reports, everything nice and tidy :) Michele Technical Support mailto:mich...@legacyfamilytree.com mich...@legacyfamilytree.com http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com www.LegacyFamilyTree.com From: Paula Ryburn [mailto:paula.ryb...@sbcglobal.net] Sent: Saturday, March 8, 2014 5:57 PM To: legacyusergroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Research notes Jane, I use the research notes for my own notes about outstanding research (I mean, research yet to be completed, haha). I would appreciate hearing specifically how your usage of shared events is different from/better than using the event clipboard. I know the role isn't in the clipboard process. Re: [LegacyUG] Custom Event Sentences in Legacy v8
Instead of asking a whole lot of questions about what Legacy v8 does and doesn't do, why don't you download it and have a look around? It installs in a different place to previous versions, so it is easy to keep your current version and data file intact and have them both running at the same time. Just be sure to use a COPY of your data file when you open it in V8, as there is a coversion process that can't be (easily) reversed. Just trying to get up-to-date on the main points of 'contention' before I do. [LegacyUG] Recording Australian Land Selection Records in Legacy
Hi I am interested in the views of Legacy Users researching Australian families on possible ways to record within Legacy the information extracted from Australian Land Selection Records, with particular focus on Victorian Land Selections. For example do users create a separate new Land Selection event/fact or use the existing Land event/fact. Also, do users have just a single event/fact to cover the entire Land Selection process from original application to final ownership of the land or do they create a separate event/fact for each milestone along the way. Finally, I would be interested in views on how best to record the Master Source and Source Detail information for the documents within a Victorian Land Selection File held by the Public Records Office of Victoria, in particular those in Series VPRS 625 and VPRS 626 (Land Selection Files, sections 19 and 20, Land Act 1869).
