No there is no such setting. You have to manually move families, trees

  Thanks, Ron. You are correct.
What I was trying to do is create a Father's Tree for each of my aunt's
 grandchildren.

There are three children in total, two of which are biological and one
child belongs to each of her two daughters. The third daughter adopted a
baby boy (Noah) and who is the youngest member of the family. I wanted to
be fair and give all three children a Father's Tree, so there wouldn't be
hurt feelings. I didn't know how to do this for Noah since the generations
of people on the chart are not his heritage.

I created a Father's Tree for him today and to my surprise, there was no
indication that he was adopted. His birth (date/place) appeared and nothing
more (eventhough I had the child relationship settings for each parent set
as adopted.) Perhaps if I had a date of his adoption, that may have shown
on the chart; but for now, it looks like everyone will get a Father's Tree
 of their own.

Thank you Ron for replying to my posts and for the help you offer this
 list.

There is an example of a chart showing both the biological family and
the adopted family here:

http://www.familytreemagazine.com/upload/images/pdf/adoptiontree.pdf

This is similar in appearance to a bow-tie chart in Legacy. You
could create one side from your Legacy bio data and then manually edit
the text in the other side for the adopted data. Color the sides
differently, with a legend explaining which color is bio and which is
adopted.

RE: [LegacyUG] charts and adopted children

2013-05-01 Thread CE WOOD
On Noah's Family Page, are his adoptive parents shown as his parents? If so,
they will be shown on the Lineage chart. You need to click on the Parents icon,
and mark his biological parents as the preferred parents. Then, when you
create the chart, the biological parents will be the ones on the chart.
Remember to change back to the adoptive parents, if that is who you normally
have as his parents.

[LegacyUG] charts and adopted children

2013-04-30 Thread Lavern Hall
Hello all,

I am putting together a variety of charts
to put into a book ( including a Father's Tree
and Mother's Tree. My aunt has four children,
three are married with biological children of
their own and the fourth sister recently married
and adopted a baby boy.

Since I am including charts for her siblings
biological children (e.g. Father's Tree), is
there a chart in Legacy that I can put together
for her adopted child. I am not trying to have her
feel left out.

Any ideas are appreciated.

Or you can click on the spouse, which brings up a little box of spouses,
then move the highlighted spouse up or down using the black arrows in the

Thanks for the input.I have avoided estimated marriage dates because with some
it would be pure guess work.HOWEVER, prompted by Marys suggestion I put #1 or
#2 in the marriage dated field. I thought it would be rejected as an incorrect

show the #1 and #2 on the date line. The problem is solved but it would have
been so much easier to be able to tick a box to indicate the order of undated

Re: [LegacyUG] Charts

2012-12-12 Thread Sherry/Support
Please remember to trim off all the old tag lines and the message(s)
you're not specifically responding to...

I would recommend that you put an estimated before date based on the
birth of the oldest child, if known.

If you have marriage dates of some of the spouses but not others and
know the order, it's safe to put in before the marriage to the
subsequent spouse - or after if it's a subsequent marriage.

I have some I've entered that way and it works fine.

Sincerely,
Sherry

Try reversing the preferred spouse the other way. You may have fixed it
and then canceled it out.

Are they are in alphabetical order in the chart? Maybe that's what
Legacy is doing with it. You really have to look at every option.
Consider it a research project.

Re: Ron, question [LegacyUG] Charts in pdf format

2011-07-15 Thread Sid Ross
Hello Dee, I use Legacy Deluxe Charting. Both Programs allow me to save
my charts as a PDF file. I can then take a copy of the PDF file to my local
Staple's store which has a large format printer (in this case about 36).
These printers have a continuous roll instead of a paper tray. They charge
by the linear foot but have a flat rate of $5 for a 3x4 (non-color) as that
is what is commonly used for copying house plans here. Be aware that
higher quality paper or color prints of this size would be much more
expensive.

Re: Ron, question [LegacyUG] Charts in pdf format

2011-07-13 Thread Ron Ferguson
Dee,

I have now sorted out my problem, which btw. was due to an incomplete
installation of the drivers, and can confirm that the drivers given in my
last post (below) were correct and work. Do bear in mind, however, that a
large chart can use an awful lot of memory and may exceed the capacity of
your PC. You may have to maximise this by changing the size of the virtual
memory (Control PanelSystem).

 Alan,

You are correct in saying that the size of the chart depends on the paper
size of the default printer. For this reason many of us install the
 drivers
used for chart printers in order to enable the production of large size
 charts suitable for printing.

Ron, question [LegacyUG] Charts in pdf format

2011-07-09 Thread Dee Ziegler
Hello, Ron. Is install the drivers used for chart printers something
practical to do on a home PC? My son-in-law (and thus, grandchildren)
have an authentic line back to Charlemagne, etc. I would very much
like to print out our entire ancestries, not for display but as a
working copy.

Can I do this from Legacy? Taking a flash drive to a local print shop?

As you probably can tell from my opening question -- I'm not a
technowhiz. More technotimid. Any instruction will be appreciated.
Thanks for your time. Dee in Maryland USA
