Have you run Tools / Other Tools / Sort Child, Marriage, Media and Event
Lists ? I have noticed that, even when set to keep them in order, they
sometimes do not.

I have another problem which has propped up in at least the Individual
Report. In the Event section the events are not in chronological order.
Instead they are listed in order of the Source Citation. The Chronology
Report however is in the correct order according to date. It became very
obvious when I just added a 46 events to one ancestor.

Re: [LegacyUG] V9 Hinting

2017-05-16 Thread Brian Kelly
You misunderstand. Hints work by automating the search function for
those sites. The info Legacy sends out is similar to the data you have
to manually submit to the site in order to do a search of their records.
Data on one person at a time is sent in a single transmission, there is
no giant submission of all the data from your file in one big lump. In
fact the hint sites also want Legacy to control how often a search is
performed, that is why in the hint settings you can only set the refresh
(ie. the time between searches for the same person) time at a minimum of
30 days.

The benefit of hinting is that Hints submit these search requests and
accumulate the responses (hits) on your behalf without you having to sit
at your computer: submitting searches for each person, analyzing each
screen full of responses and updating your data from those results.
Hints let you know there is a potential match but you can investigate
those at your leisure.

Re: [LegacyUG] V9 Hinting

2017-05-16 Thread Michele/Support
No, you do not have to have uploaded a gedcom to get hints. You are seeing
hints from other people's trees. Look at it this way...

You could go to MyHeritage and fill in their search fields, names, dates,
locations, and then MyHeritage will tell you if they have anything in their
databases that matches. They don't keep the information you entered in
those search fields. It is the same thing with hinting. They look at what
you have and then they generate results but they can't collect/keep the data
in your file. It is all handled by a computer algorithm.

In the case of MyHeritage you will see two different kinds of hints. You
will see hints to documents and hints to trees that people have uploaded to
MyHeritage.

Larry, I'm not about to try what you describe, but I have a situation that
might be explained by what you found. If so, I didn't notice the wrong window
opening.

For one individual only, the Siblings list shows her 7 siblings and herself,
but also her 6 children from her marriage - all of these listed have correct
RIN.
Selecting each sibling in turn, then opening the siblings list for each, shows
no errors. It is only for the one individual that this problem exists
Checking names, I have no duplicates - everything appears normal.

In the last 36 hours, I was editing some information for this part of the
family. What I describe MAY have occurred if the right-click popup window was
for the wrong person, and I didn't notice that. I have screen capture images of
the problem (which I can't correct). My solution was to open a previous backup,
for which the problem isn't showing.

I have reported this to Millennia, but I'm not sure it has the same cause as
your observations. I'll let them consider it.

Thanks so very much for the detailed description! Not too many people use

Thank you Bob, Robert, Ian, Pete and Cathy! There's a great group of
people on this list!

After much experimentation, the problem has been found. Ian, it appears
that you were on the right track. My anti-virus software was the
culprit. I am running Webroot SecureAnywhere on all of our computers
and devices. This is a popular (I think) program that I originally
purchased from Best Buy. This is the first time I have had any kind of
issue with it since 2009 when we first started using it.

If anyone else is using Webroot and having issues with Legacy, this is
what I have done... Open Webroot, then go to Identity Protection
settings (the gear icon). There is a tab there for Application
Protection. Choose this tab and you will see many of your programs
listed. The options are "Protect", "Allow" and "Deny". Legacy 9 was
set to "Deny", apparently by default. I changed it to "Allow", and all
of my problems disappeared! I tried many different things to track down
this problem, starting with the suggestions from you folks.

This one tweak fixed the following problems:

1. Error Code 3045 (not a Legacy error) on exit.
2. Error Code 3045 sometimes on startup.
3. Inability to paste text. This was a problem that I was not aware of
at the time of my first post. I could not paste anything that I copied,
which I used to do quite routinely. No field, including general notes,
would accept pasting of any kind. It just remained blank.
4. Backups not occurring. Backups are now working beautifully!
...Backup to Legacy Cloud seems to be working now too, but I'm thinking
that issue may be unrelated?? Just coincidence in timing perhaps.
5. Hints are working extremely well now. I did not realize before that
the Hint feature may have been hindered somewhat by this issue. After
changing this setting in Webroot, I saw orange dots (hints) popping up
everywhere! It was not like that before. Just a few here and there.

I am extremely happy with Legacy 9! Glad I upgraded from 7.5!

Anyone else running Webroot - check your settings!

Thanks a million!

Re: [LegacyUG] V9 Error Code 3045

2017-04-24 Thread Cathy Pinner

David,
There is a problem with the Legacy Cloud (I think there still is) so
untick that if it is ticked.

If you still get this error, contacting support is your best option
after checking that you don't have Legacy FamilySearch or Legacy
Charting open or even Legacy 7.5 though that is likely a different file
with the same name?

You may still be negotiating the change in Default locations for data
and media if you were using the Legacy 7.5 defaults.
It was the changes to the defaults that allows 7.5 and 8 or 9 to be
installed at the same time. Legacy 9 overwrites Legacy 8.
(Legacy 7 overwrote Legacy 6 unless computer literate people changed the
defaults.)

Perhaps I am missing something. Anyone have any ideas?

There appear to be two ".ldb" files under the Legacy Family Tree/Data
directory.
Before you run the Legacy Program, check the "Data" directory and delete any
".ldb" files you find. When you run Legacy, It will recreate the necessary
".ldb" files.

Hi Dave,

I have no issue with backup on exit, where the file is closed, or with
‘File/Backup File’ where the file is actually still open in Legacy. But I use
Widows 10.

I have not tried uploading to Legacy Cloud. Maybe I’m too cautious, but I
can’t find any privacy statement or anything to say what they do with my data
on the cloud.

Error 3045 is a MS Windows error and may only affect Win7, Vista and XP. Google
‘Error 3045’ for some causes and possible fixes.
