Re: Compiling RealTek 8139 driver whit error
Hi all, OK, I wget the latest kernel (linux-2.6.0-test7) and try to commpile it, but I bump into some errors so I decided to compile only the modules by this RTFM http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO/loadable_modules.html#AEN285 and the when insmod the 8139too.o I got this msg: .8139too.o: couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for As I read more in this document I see that there is a way to outsmart this problem by define the register_chrdev as the register version of my working kernel, BUT genksyms appears to work in version Versions 2.1.18 and lower... So I google some more, and fine an article that describe, more or less, my kind of issue... They recommend to add #define __NO_VERSION__ to the file before the include's, so I did, and nothing And the last test I did is I copy the include/linux/version.h (the origilal) and replaced the version.h in my new kernel dir, also, not a big success story :-) Help any one... I suggest visiting http://www.bookcrossing.com and registering these books. Then you can come to a BookCrossing event (like the one we had in the August Penguin 2003) and swap books with others, or even just donate your books. Re: [ANNOUNCE] Kazit2 beta released
Hi Shlomi, Here are my observations of you remaster: general: * Thin-Keramic is nice, but keramic is better if you want a better unified desktop * qt3.2 has some issues, for example look in kicker for the hide buttons, also in kde3.2 there are issues with khtml, i could not test them since i had problems with iwiz, downgrade to qt3.1 please. * iwiz should be in configuration menu * iwiz should run as root (sudo or whatever?) * iwiz does not run even in root, since it needs to wite in RO dirs: [EMAIL PROTECTED] iwiz ls: /usr/share/internet_db/connections/*.tar.gz: No such file or directory tar (child): /usr/share/internet_db/connections/My Connection.tar.gz: Cannot open: Read-only file system tar (child): Error is not recoverable: exiting now * localized graphics maybe? * touch /etc/modules/2.4.22-xfs... and friends (they are older then other files) * can you map the "win" key to the kemnu? (mdk does that) * please add gtkgraph, or better program (kde based a BIG plus!) things that may be removed without any problems: * where is the show dektop button? * mixer volume is is 50%, can it be put to 95%? * qparted does not load * xine is not setup up to play avi's by default * the same for xmms * set the default font in "konsole" to "console" please * xmms-bidi? i see only garbage in files, try "LC_CTYPE=he_IL.ISO-8859-8 biditext xmms" works in mdk9.2 - remove bochs no default image. and why the hell do i need it in knopix? - remove wine hard to configure on real boxes. no autodetection of any thing. rarely works (from my experience) + bb ownz! (whwre can iget more of this?) i have seen demos... but this is definetly my favorite (my other two are one for windows with great sound sync and another one from the 4k asm contest) + OO1 final! + gideon and not kdevelop! full hebrew style - * FireBird uses a diffedrent font for menu then system (kde) lindows style - * please use ksplash-ml and set the splash to "xp" mac style: -- * hack please the karamba theme to show the k menu on the right * use the same background image as full hebrew style Looks great btw, real love as been put into this project. Just need to fix some small things and you are done. IMHO release kazit 2, before kde3.2 with kde3.1, since there are many problems regarding hebrew there. You may want to do kazit 2.1 with kde3.2 but IMHO kde3.2 will not be really do your remaster until kde3.2.2 or kde3.2.3. Stick to kde3.1.X. בשבת, 11 באוקטובר 2003, 22:11, נכתב על ידי shlomi: > On October 11th 2003, the Kazit Project released the first beta release of > Kazit2. > > Kazit started as a Hebrew-localized KnoppixKDE remaster > (http://www.kde.org/il/knoppixkde/). > however , KnoppixKDE is no longer under development. > > Kazit2 is a remaster based on Knoppix3.3 > It's purpose is to provide a Knoppix version with full Hebrew support. > > (*) FEATURES: > > * All locale setting were set to work as UTF8 > * Hebrew language packages installed > * Improved keyboared layout switcher > * Open office upgraded to version 1.1 (no language packages) > * HSpell installed using 'multispell' for both Hebrew and English spell > checking > * Works with Culmus fonts by default > * Added a textual menu on startup for choosing between full Hebrew or > "Hebrew enabled" modes > * Several Hebrew related packages were installed: fribidi, bidiv, hebcal, > qtzmanim, switcher > * Some tools (iwiz, my 012 PPTP script) for dialling PPTP/ADSL > * the 'Frozen bubble' game was not removed this time :D > > (*) MORE INFO: > > For additional information in Hebrew: > http://mirror.hamakor.org.il/pub/kazit2/kazit.index.html > > For a list of packaged that were removed browse: > http://mirror.hamakor.org.il/pub/kazit2/kazit-2.0-beta-packages-removed.txt > > For a list of packages that were added browse: > http://mirror.hamakor.org.il/pub/kazit2/kazit-2.0-beta-packages-added.txt > > for a full list (output of 'dpkg -l') : > http://mirror.hamakor.org.il/pub/kazit2/kazit-2.0-beta-packages-full-list.t >xt > > Please note that these are unstable development releases with missing or > non-working features and are not intended for production systems. > > If you think that some package should be included, please email me and > explain what package and why you think it should be included. Re: Old computer linux dist.

You'll have to remove it yourself, for the time being. i have 24mb ram though. also, how do i dump the image via the ethernet connection? because last time, it took me 2 days to set the external cdrom driver working. Tricky. Set up an HTTP or FTP server, and connect to it using the "network install" boot disk of some distro. Personally, I suggest you compile netcat statically (so it has no external dependancies). Get it to your computer using FTP. Then, format and mount the partitions you need, cd to the proposed new root, and do "nc -l -p 12345 | tar xvzf -". On the other computer, do "nc 172.24.15.132 12345 < image.tgz". This way you won't need temporary storage for the tar file, which may prove more than your computer can hold (both tar and extracted images). also, is there a way to hibernate my thinkpad 755cx with linux? it will probably need a fat16 on the first partition and the file hibernate.sys but there is still a need to some software to activate it. Try http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/. It's a great site.
