Is that the rollover value for a signed 32-bit int?

Looks like you have hit exactly the 2 GB limit the 2.2.x kernel have, updating
to 2.4.x should help or use a 64 bit CPU, or at least apply an LFS patch to 2.2.x.

Good luck

Hi,

I have a Linux RH6.2 and my root partition (/) have become
full (100% used) rapidly. I use Squid and QMail into this
server and I suspect one of these is the responsable for
my full partition.

Then, I would like to know if there is some command from
Linux that allows to calculate all space used for each
directory. After this, it is possible to know who is the
"byte-eater" of my system.

Thanks for any help,

How did it not work? Is it because you have "-f- b" instead of "-f -b"?

If this is under SCO and it's a serial printer, you probably need to set
XON/XOFF - either via the printer dip switches or insert an stty line in
the printer interface script.

2.1 definitely isn't needed: I'm on 2.0.7 (with libc5.4.38 in reserve).
But here's what ldd realplay yields on my kernel 2.0.36 Debian box:

libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0x4000f000)
libXt.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libXt.so.6 (0x40012000)

libICE.so.6 => /usr/X11R6/lib/libICE.so.6 (0x40229000)

Hope this helps.

Although I *like* the Slackware distributions, they typically come with
instructions that say something to the effect that upgrading is such a
pain that Patrick Volkerding recommends that you reinstall instead.

If you are looking for ease of upgrade, I'd have to suggest that you
avoid the Slackware distributions.

The datatype and purpose of '_cnt' would serve the purpose.
The linux version does NOT matter at all.

Have they finally gotten around to making dhcpcd a part of the
installation? That's what turned me completely off SuSE 5.2 - I
could deal with it (install dhcpcd, patch a few files in /etc and
/sbin), but it's impossible to evangelise Linux to Windoze folks
in a DHCP environment without this support!

Hi, I am running redhat 5.1 and am in the process of automating my email
send/recieve. The problem is this ...
I fire up ppp using /etc/ppp/ip-up.local - it dials isp - send recieves
email
but then I cannot get it to hang up!! (using ./ifdown-ppp ifcfg-ppp0 &)

The only way I can find of doing it is with
kill -HUP `cat /var/lockLCK..modem`

But this is no good if the line is busy. Does anybody know how I set a
timeout to 1 minute and then drop the connection?

Any help greatly appreciated

This is my ip-up.local script

#!/bin/sh
#modified 4/3/99
#
# These lines are added to log any messages generated to user1/log
exec >/user1/log/ip-up-log
exec 2>&1
#

#
# activate the ppp connection - dial demon internet using pap authentication
cd /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts
./ifup-ppp ifcfg-ppp0 &
#
# send batched mail (anything in ~alias/pppdir) to demon post (smtp) server
/usr/local/bin/maildirsmtp ~alias/pppdir alias-ppp- post.demon.co.uk

Dear friends:

My thanks to all of you who have written to me either personally or on the
pages of the linux. advocacy newsgroup. You've all been extremely generous
with your time and expertise. An incredible support group. I should be
getting my Linux within a few days. Also bought a UPS battery (APC) and,
due to the fabulous and extraordinarily knowledgable, professional advice I
have gotten from the Linux community, on this and other Linux newsgroups, I
feel a lot more prepared and confident that I can handle it. Of course, I
am also preparing myself actively by reading and reading..

Thank you all!

Just lousy hardware, I guess.

There's a bunch of clock info in Gary's Encyclopedia at

http://www.aa.net/~swear/pedia/clock.html

You can get software that estimates the clock drift characteristics
and makes corrections for them. The OS clock time value and drift
rate value (a kernel thing) and the HW clock time are adjusted
occasionally, based on manual, local net, or Internet updates.

USING DIR_COLORS IN REDHAT.

Copy the /etc/DIR_COLORS to your home directory as .dir_colors
and modify it to the colors you prefer.

In your "~/.bashrc" set an alias:

alias ls='ls --color'
alias lv='ls --color -la'

Then run the following command from the prompt:

dircolors -b ~/.dir_colors >> ~/.bashrc

This will export the Bourne shell compatable code to set the environment
variable for LS_COLORS, and add it to your bash initialization files.

Now, close your open shells and reopen them.

Voila!
