For me, also the key-binding Alt-M G p works

If you are going to be inserting many of these, it will save you time to
learn
the LaTeX commands: \pi, \phi, \theta, \sigma, and you can capitalize
the first

Works for me (Intel Mac, 10.4.9, LyX 1.5.0b3). Have you customized

Ah, that did it. (I also had to redirect the UI in Preferences back to
"default" from my customized file, of course). I had customized the
file back in 1.4.4, which screwed things up. Thanks!

Re: Math Panel not a window?

2006-05-24 Thread Maria Gouskova

I use Mac OS 10.4.6, LyX 1.4.1, but this was also the case in 1.3.7:

The default shortcut for closing a window in the mac bind file is
Cmd+W, which closes any open document (as expected). But the Math
Panel and other editing windows (e.g., Paragraph Settings, Edit
Table) cannot be closed using Cmd+W--I've been closing them with
the mouse (which I personally find a little distracting, since
other programs on the Mac platform generally treat dialogs of this
type as regular windows, and Cmd+W works on them).

Can something be added to the bind file to close these things with
a key shortcut? Is this an intentional feature of the program,
i.e., does LyX for Windows also treat dialogs/editing panels as
non-windows?

Try to close all dialogs.

Bennett

I'm sorry, I think I was too indirect in making my point. Closing the
window is not something I am having difficulty with--I can do it, but
it works differently from how things normally work in the OS. It
therefore makes the Math Panel and other features of LyX kind of
annoying. Would it be a hard quirk to eliminate?

This is Qt bug. No way to fix by youself.
With locale=en _almost_ every symbol is displayed
With xforms _every_ symbol looks as is.

As I figured out it rather has to do with the windowmanager than with
lyx itself, I had the same problem with wm metacity on redhat 9, too.
But when I changed the windowmanager by typing

killall metacity; sawfish

it worked just fine. Problem is that T haven't found out how to set
sawfish as default wm, so I had to do this everytime I wanted to use
mathed in lyx.

Lately I've changed to suse8.2, here I use the double-click on the top
of the window to minimize, and simply activating by touching (not
clicking) with the mouse. These are settings in the windowmanager, but I
don`t know how it's done anywhere else but suse.

hope this helps,

The urw-fonts package installs a wrong description of fonts (this is
fixed for future mandrake releases, AFAIK). To fix it, edit the
 /usr/share/fonts/default/Type1/fonts.dir
file, so that the line which reads
 s05l.pfb -URW-Symbol-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-urw-fontspecific
is changed to (only "urw" is changed to "adobe")
 s05l.pfb -URW-Symbol-medium-r-normal--0-0-0-0-p-0-adobe-fontspecific

Then restart the X server (or reboot if you do not know how to do
that) and things should work again.

What version of linux do you use? If it is mandrake 8.x or redhat
7.[012], then you have a broken urw-fonts package.

No, this is something that has been changed in 1.1.6.

You could use all symbols by giving there LaTeX name like \Longrightarrow.
In older builds of LyX they will show up as red text on screen, but when
viewed as .dvi or .ps everything is fine.

There is not such thing as a 'standard build of lyx for linux'...
What does the small dialog in Help->About LyX say?
Something like 'LyX 1.1.6fix4'?

put:

\usepackage{latexsym}

or

\usepackage{amsfonts}

in your preamble. Actually it may also be the case that you could
just tick the Layout->Document->Use AMS Math box.

ok, team. i'm on the road to recovery. i've located my symbol on the
web, i put it in my lyx document, and it spits out the following error:
Load the latexsym or the amsfonts package to define this symbol. yay.
but what does that mean, where do i find it, and how do i do it?

you guys are great. thanks for the help so far.

RE: math panel

2002-02-13 Thread Bo Peng

My math-panel is at edit menu. It does not have enough math symbols too.
Anyway, I made a bunch of key bindings and bind every symbol I need to keys.
It is all in the form of

\bind "C-s something" "math-insert symbol"

Even lyx can not display some of the symbols, they can be compiled and
printed.

Hmm. On mine (Lyx 1.1.6fix4) "Math Panel" is in the "Edit" menu. I
don't heve a "Math" menu; maybe that's a local configuration option?
