Well, general file access routines for assembly or C code would be a great

Yeah, that's all I can find. Bits 2,1,0 are Reserved, Reserved,
Internal Use. Maybe that means bit 0 is "open file"? Freakin' Tandy. :-(

The closest I've been able to find is that Nuge's RAM-ROM file reports
that MAKTXT does NOT set the open-file bit in the directory, but
doesn't say which bit that is. :-(

> What are you looking at in the NEC tech ref?

Like you recommended, all the file-handling-from-Assembly stuff. The
NEC tech ref is a bit chatty, but the Engrish makes it amusing not
annoying. But it is very clear that when you mess around with a file it
should be marked as OPEN.

If that's what I need to do to cut down the cold-starts/hour ratio then
that's what I'll do. :-)

On one hand, this all is a little beyond my immediate goal -- to test
the file functions to make sure that the C call is properly converted
into the ROM call. But I don't want to be giving out broken sample/test
code either! It is, after all, my great hope that somebody uses this
library to make a useful M100 program!

Ugh, that's an obnoxious scan. But no, bits 7-3 are well defined. One
of the bits 2,1,0 should be an "open file" flag but I haven't found
anything saying which one is which.

> BTW, just curious: what function of REX is the most valuable for you?

Since I started this project? The ability to backup and restore RAM
images. I've cold-started my M100 more times in the last 2 months than
I have in the previous 20 years! Not having to install TEENY from
scratch every 10 minutes... ;-)

Even previously, the multiple RAM images is the feature I use most.
Mostly the ROM image is left at TS-DOS, though I do fire up multiplan
or lucid once in a while... I'm just not doing a lot of
word-processing, outlining, or database stuff these days, and frankly
ROM2 kind of scares me. ;-)

On the NEC bit 1 of the Directory entry status byte (0010b) is the
Open File flag. I can't seem to find anything in my Model 100 docs to
confirm this. Is it the same for the M100?

2017-06-29 Thread Josh Malone
I was figuring that the BCR port might be a possible power source for the
wifi232, but was a tad concerned about the current draw. The M100 uses
~65mA, but the wifi232 is bound to draw at least 100, right? A quick glance
at the techref shows that 5V is provided by a DC-DC converter but I can't
find any current specs on their circuit. But, it looks like the worst that
could happen is the low battery light comes on of the auto-shut-off circuit
shuts down the machine. Probably can't hurt to try.

Re: [M100] m102 printing ... Panasonic 24pin printers?

2017-06-29 Thread Kurt McCullum
Here are the parts I used to build my cable.

First is the 26 Pin IDC connector for the Model-T
http://www.futurlec.com/Connectors/IDCC26pr.shtml

Then the 26 pin ribbon cable
http://www.futurlec.com/cgi-bin/search/search.cgi

Then the centronics connector (Near the bottom of the page)
http://www.futurlec.com/ConnIDC.shtml

The cabling is simple a 1 to 1 straight through. So pin 1 on the IDC connector
goes to pin 1 on the centronics connector.

These are the exact components I used to make mine.

[M100] MUD

2017-06-29 Thread Jim Williams
A long time ago, for a short while, I ran a Smaug-based MUD server.

I didn't have time to do what I wanted with it.

I've got the source and executable and (I think) some tools for it.
I've been thinking of maybe rebuilding an old computer and setting Smaug
up on it, try to customize it and format it for the Model T's screen.

But, would anyone be interested in playing it if I did so? I can't
promise that I'll have the time this time to customize it as I want to,
but I'll try maintaining it if people are interested in playing it. I
think people here are more tinkerers than gamers, but I'm not going to
pretend that my perception is reality. If someone were interested in
writing up a custom mud client, it might be a project people would be
interested in. I was thinking of working on one, but more knowledgeable
people than me have already worked up communications programs (like
hterm) for the Model T.

It may be a month or two before I get it set up and going (I may need to
get some parts for that PC) but let me know if anyone would be
interested in "dialing in" with their Model T. If so, I'll give the
project a higher priority than it has now.

yes, possibly. the VI portion of the DVI is all you'd want, and it is
based on a Z80. good point. I guess both have a composite output
signal.

The schematic for the m100's version, the Disk Video Interface, is available.
Would it not be possible to make just the CRT adapter from that schematic?

reverse engineering that device would be useful. I think it would
even be possible to figure out how to patch the Model T to use it.

That would be great Josh. I just need the one file COD.DO. Apparently that's
the CODE 3 of 9 driver for the NEC.

So I tried using my CCR-82. Seems like it needs its belt(s) replaced.

If I can dig up another cassette player I may just rip the whole tape into
Audacity and deal with it there.

Is the NEC disk unit similar to the TPDD as far as command set goes? I guess
another way of asking that is whether or not TS-DOS will talk to it. I know the
NEC has a higher capacity per disk but I wasn't sure if there were more
differences.
