Re: Burning ML to SD card.

2012-08-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Geoff

Just out of interest, do you happen to have a thumb drive or external hard
drive on which you could try this test? As for that Lion Diskmaker, I think it
was just written by somebody who has far too much time on their hands. :)

I copied the InstallESD.dmg file to my desktop and inserted an 8GB SD card.

Next, I launched disk utility and in the delete tab selected macOS journaled.
All appeared to have gone well up to this point; I have an empty 7.8 GB
partition. Next, I went into the restore tab, and here's where it gets weird.
I can copy/paste the file from the desktop into the source field, but then when
I attempt to drag/drop the SD partition into the target field, the target
remains empty, and the InstallESD.dmg is replaced with the name of the SD
partition that I intend to be the target. I'm assuming that I'm missing a
step, or that there's a trick to this, since it worked fine when I was creating
the Lion DVD.

Can anyone suggest a work-around, or do I need to grab that Lion Disk Maker app
that Sarah mentioned?

TIA and best regards.

2012-08-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Josh

Right, I'm with you now. No, the two are independent applications although
yes, you can access Disk Utility via the menu structure from within the
recovery tool, just as you can from within the Mac OS X installer utility.
But, if it's too much hassle to go to the Utilities folder to access disk
utility, how about just using the Mac OS X Finder shortcut, Command+Shift+U,
then hitting D which will highlight Disk Utility. Then just open it by
pressing either Command+O or Command+Down-Arrow.

Like Windows in some respects, there are several ways of doing these things
with Mac OS X.

Hi Josh

Firstly, Josh, from the Finder you can press Command+Shift+A to open the
/applications folder. Command+Shift+U will open the /applications/utilities
folder. There are a number of other shortcuts, (Found in System
PreverencesKeyboardShortcuts.

If you use the recovery tool, it gathers the information from whatever OS you
happen to have installed. So, although it says it is a Lion Recovery tool,
it actually works fine on Mountain Lion. So really, I do not understand why
people are finding it so hard. :)

Just run the recovery tool, point it to where you want your drive created and
it copies the OS, block by block on a sector-level so it erases everything on
your recovery destination drive. You do not even need to have the
installDVD.dmg on your system.

I hope that makes things more clear. Now, for those who might want the
recovery tool, I will repost the link to it on our dropbox: No need for Lion
Diskmaker or anything additional. I gather from what I've read on MacWorld, you
can also use this to write the recovery disk to a flash card. Again, it's done
at a block level so you shouldn't, although it's probably a good ideas to,
partition your drive as Guide Partition in advance.

You can find the tool here:

Re: Shut down sound

2012-08-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Josh and Chris

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an issue.
Maybe it's just that I've grown so accustomed to Mac OS, or maybe it's just my
in-built dislike of Windows. I use it because I have too now and then, and it
looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in the short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless
there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access a
sound file when the OS is closing down. But I rout it. Somebody else may know
differently, we shall see.

Hello Mary

This is precisely why this list exists. If one person gets the help they need
from us as a group, then it's worth while. I will write to you off list,

unlocking system preferences

2012-08-03 Thread Phil Halton
under Users and Groups in system preferences, (and elsewhere) many setting
fields are dimmed and there is a button and a check box towards the end that
says click the lock to make changes. Clicking (VO-space) on either the button
or the checkbox brings up another window with a name and password field. I
enter my password - the name is prefilled - but then there is no button or
anything to continue. Those are the only two fields, and there is no continue
button.

So, I'm stuck there and don't know how to continue to unlock the preferences so
I can make changes. This one has got me stumped! I'm completely new to Mac and
VO and at this point, I'm just exploring the Mac OS X system and basic VO
functionality.

Thanks for any help you can give with this one.

Re: unlocking system preferences

2012-08-03 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi PHil,

In addition to Marcy Stuart's suggestion of pressing the Enter key, also
known as the Return key, you also have the option to stop interacting with the
UserName / Password section of that particular dialog box by pressing
VO+Shift+Up Arrow. This will allow you to navigate the rest of that dialog box
using standard VO commands . It's sort of like taking the long way 'round, but
as a new VO User I think you might find it helpful to try it once as it might
give you a better feel for the full layout of that particular authentication
dialog box, as it is one you will encounter frequently. After you stop
interacting, press VO+left or Right Arrow keys and you'll find the cancel and
unlock buttons, a brief text description explaining the purpose of the
dialog box, and an element labeled Scroll area. The scroll area is actually
the section that contains the User Name and Password fields, and you can
interact with it again by pressing VO+Shift+Down Arrow.

HTH,
Bryan

Hi Josh and Chris

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an
issue. Maybe it's just that I've grown so accustomed to Mac OS, or maybe
it's just my in-built dislike of Windows. I use it because I have too now
and then, and it looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in the
short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless
there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access a
sound file when the OS is closing down. But I rout it. Somebody else may
know differently, we shall see.

2012-08-03 Thread David Griffith
In practice I have not found this to be a problem as generally the Mac
shuts down a lot quicker. ON my IMac I do not shut down but morally put it
to sleep with command option escape and it is startlingly quick, pretty much
instantaneous really , I can tell the screen just goes black in a blink. . I
am not sure how your Mac Book will compare.

If I need to restart the system the Mac does naked a system sounds as it
reboots.
This is pretty much all I need - instant shut down through sleep and a
reboot on the odd occasion for which there are existing sound indicators.

What I do find difficult is using the option key to enter boot camp or
recovery disc or external drive boot . I cannot see when the menu when boot
options comes up so I end up having to count up to 30 and even then I might
find myself going back into Mac OS by mistake. It would be great if there
was a second system sound when you get to option boot menu.

Re: Burning ML to SD card.

2012-08-03 Thread Geoff Waaler
Hi Esther, Gordon and others,

I ordered an 8GB SD card for this purpose before reading that most were
apparently using a thumb drive, so I don't have an easy way to test USB
connected media.

Perhaps related, but I see no option to specify guide as a partition type in
the delete dialog of Disk Utility. After more experimentation I decided that
as Esther suggested, the Lion Disk Utility's restore dialog is inaccessible
for my purposes in that one can not copy or drag the desired media to the
target field. I tried opening the InstallESD.dmg file and selecting the
resulting mounted volume, to no avail.

I created the desired installation media via CCC, and it appears to boot
properly, so ML should be installed later today. It sounds as though the
recovery tool that Gordon posted would have done the trick as well.

Thanks to all for your suggestions and best regards.

  Hi Geoff

Just out of interest, do you happen to have a thumb drive or external hard
drive on which you could try this test? As for that Lion Diskmaker, I think it
was just written by somebody who has far too much time on their hands. :)

7.8 GB partition. Next, I went into the restore tab, and here's where it gets
weird. I can copy/paste the file from the desktop into the source field, but
then when I attempt to drag/drop the SD partition into the target field, the
target remains empty, and the InstallESD.dmg is replaced with the name of the
SD partition that I intend to be the target. I'm assuming that I'm missing a
step, or that there's a trick to this, since it worked fine when I was creating
the Lion DVD.

Can anyone suggest a work-around, or do I need to grab that Lion Disk Maker
app that Sarah mentioned?

  TIA and best regards.

Re: Shut down sound

2012-08-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Chris

My only suggestion is that you can feel the fan and HD activity until your
machine is shut down. No, VoiceOver often goes down some time before the
machine because the OS does a bit of housekeeping before it closes. If you use
the system shortcut, Command+Option+Control+Eject, unless there are operating
system windows open which require user intervention, your machine will usually
shut down of its own accord. If you use the system shortcut
Command+Control+Eject, the machine will usually restart of its own accord
unless there are user windows open which require intervention. Sometimes, even
those windows are closed by the operating system. An example of one which
usually does not close is iTunes prompting you to enter information.

I hope some of that was useful.

In practice I have not found this to be a problem as generally the Mac
shuts down a lot quicker. ON my IMac I do not shut down but morally put it
to sleep with command option escape and it is startlingly quick, pretty
much
instantaneous really , I can tell the screen just goes black in a blink. .
I

am not sure how your Mac Book will compare.

I cannot see when the menu when
boot
options comes up so I end up having to count up to 30 and even then I
might

find myself going back into Mac OS by mistake. It would be great if there
was a second system sound when you get to option boot menu.

Re: Burning ML to SD card.

2012-08-03 Thread Gordon Smith
Hi Geoff

If you look around the dick utility tabs, you'll see a Partition tab. There
is an Options button just before the two cancel and OK buttons. Pressing
that will bring up a table of different partition types. In that table just
select the Guide partition type radio button and click OK. Then, click
Apply and then click Partition. Your partition will then be created.

Hi Esther, Gordon and others,

I ordered an 8GB SD card for this purpose before reading that most were
apparently using a thumb drive, so I don't have an easy way to test USB

Next, I launched disk utility and in the delete tab selected macOS

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an issue.
Maybe it's just that I've grown so accustomed to Mac OS, or maybe it's just
my in-built dislike of Windows. I use it because I have too now and then,
and it looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in the short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless
there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access a
sound file when the OS is closing down. But I rout it. Somebody else may
 know differently, we shall see.

Hi All,

In celebration of the new version 8 release of DVDRemaster Pro, the
developer has put this app on sale at the Mac App Store for $9.99 for a
limited time, reduced from its usual price of $49.99. This application
allows you to extract audio or video tracks from DVDs and also to
recompress large DVS so they can be burned on standard DVDs, or convert
them for watching on iOS devices or Apple TVs. I should add that Gordon
worked with the developer to improve the accessibility of this
application. You can get comments from other list members who have used
this program extensively. I think you can also get a trial download of
the software from Metakine's web site at:

http://www.metakine.com/products/dvdremaster/

The URL for DVDRemaster 8 at the Mac App Store is:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dvdremaster-8/id527609547?mt=12

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hello,

I've had my first Apple iMac for two days now. I've managed to connect to
my wi-fi network and the bluetooth trackPad works fine, but with the
following problems.

When the iMac goes to sleep after a period of inactivity, and then is
awakened by pressing a key on the keyboard, both the trackPad and wifi
connection is lost.

I've just re-paired my trackpad, which got it working again, and tried to
connect to my wifi network but with no joy.

When I went into network system settings, wifi didn't even see my
network - it wasn't discovered. I think a reboot takes care of the
problem, but that shouldn't be necessary.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Gmail Trouble

2012-08-03 Thread Jane
I have an email account set up with the Pennsylvania Cyber Charter School,
since I'm a parent. I have managed to get it set up correctly on my Mac, but
when I input the same information for my iPod, it isn't recognizing it. The
email address is my email address at my pa cyber dot org not Gmail--is that the
trouble? Any ideas if I can make the iPod recognize the account and let me
check email from there? It's all set to iMap, so I figured it owuld be safe to
add it.

Sounds great, so I guess unlike Windows VoiceOver stays on until the very
last second. Saying this as on the Windows machines the screen reader gets
unloaded first before shutting down. So is this not the case with VoiceOver?

That and the air will stop circulating because it will turn off. When you
start with your mac you will find it's shutdown is much faster than your
windows machines before, unless something is open and blocks it and at
some point v o will start speaking. But cursoring around with nothing
from v o will give you a quick clue that it's shutting down.

Also we should factor in that Mac has a fast shutdown. It's a lot faster

eject method of shutdown.

Hi Josh and Chris

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an
issue. Maybe it's just that I've grown so accustomed to Mac OS, or maybe
it's just my in-built dislike of Windows. I use it because I have too
now and then, and it looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in
the short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless
there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access
a sound file when the OS is closing down. But I rout it. Somebody else
may know differently, we shall see.

Hi Chris

My only suggestion is that you can feel the fan and HD activity until your
machine is shut down. No, VoiceOver often goes down some time before the
machine because the OS does a bit of housekeeping before it closes. If
you use the system shortcut, Command+Option+Control+Eject, unless there
are operating system windows open which require user intervention, your
machine will usually shut down of its own accord. If you use the system
shortcut Command+Control+Eject, the machine will usually restart of its
own accord unless there are user windows open which require intervention.
Sometimes, even those windows are closed by the operating system. An
example of one which usually does not close is iTunes prompting you to
enter information.

I hope some of that was useful.

Gordon

Yeah. go to a friend's computer or a library one, sign in to the app store
under your account, download lion or what ever and make a flash disk and then
take it to the off line computer and then install it by booting in to the flash
disk.

This is the reason why I can't use the recovery tool. My internet right now is
so spotty I don't want to spend 2 days downloading 4 gigs. lol! So I'll just
make the flash drive and stick it in when I need to do a clean instal and it

Re: Shut down sound

2012-08-03 Thread Sarah Alawami
The eject key is 1 key to the right on the mac laptop keyboard. I learned of
this I believe through the apple manu when they did the keystrokes there at one
time, 2 years ago. It is a nice way to shut down. Just hit control cmd option
eject to shot down, cmd option eject to sleep and control cmd eject to reboot.

Take care.

 Hi Chris

My only suggestion is that you can feel the fan and HD activity until your
machine is shut down. No, VoiceOver often goes down some time before the
machine because the OS does a bit of housekeeping before it closes. If you
use the system shortcut, Command+Option+Control+Eject, unless there are
operating system windows open which require user intervention, your machine
will usually shut down of its own accord. If you use the system shortcut
Command+Control+Eject, the machine will usually restart of its own accord
unless there are user windows open which require intervention. Sometimes,
even those windows are closed by the operating system. An example of one
which usually does not close is iTunes prompting you to enter information.

I hope some of that was useful.

Re: Tables in PDF documents

2012-08-03 Thread Sarah Alawami
I use an app called pdf to text. simply drag the file on to the app in the apps
folder and you have an rtf file on your desk top, I think. It's been a while
since I used it but it works for what I need it to.

I'm unsure if it will do tables but it's worth a try.
On Aug 3, 2012, at 11:11 AM, Paul Hopewell hopew...@hopewell.org.uk wrote:

 Hello,

My bank provides my credit card statement as a PDF file only. It does not
read correctly with Preview which displays each column in the table
separately. Using Abbyyy fine reader to create a spreadsheet document does a
slightly better job displaying the date and description in a table with
separate columns but alas the amount is in a separate following table.

So at present I have to start Windows XP under VMWare Fusion and use Adobe
Acrobat to convert the PDF document into html which then enables Safari to
correctly read the table. this is all very inconvenient so a Mac only
 solution would be much better.

 Any suggestions?

Yeah. go to a friend's computer or a library one, sign in to the app store
under your account, download lion or what ever and make a flash disk and
then take it to the off line computer and then install it by booting in to
the flash disk.

This is the reason why I can't use the recovery tool. My internet right
now is so spotty I don't want to spend 2 days downloading 4 gigs. lol! So
I'll just make the flash drive and stick it in when I need to do a clean
instal and it will take about 3 hours including the transferring of data

was Re: Shut down Is Also Restart.

2012-08-03 Thread Thomas McMahan
It either is not as multi layered as windows at shutdown or is just a lot
faster. Sometimes voice will be cut off in mid word while in shut down
process, but from that point on it's pretty fast. Since I have an i-mac and
it's very quiet I just use feeling the air circulation to tell me it's actually
shut off. Now when starting up you will hear a brief spin up and then tone and
it goes through the boot up process. Sort of the opposite of windows which
does the sound effect once it's ready to load windows unless you have screen
reader speak up in the log in screen. So the start up will be different for
you too in that regard too because in a Mac it searches the hardware and sounds
when it's found sound card. If you start it and don't hear the sound fairly
soon within a few seconds of the powering on, at least don't hear it in 10
seconds then something didn't find properly, or card is totally turned off, or
broken. That rarely happens though, in fact I think I have only h
eard it not sound off one time in nearly 10 years of using a Mac, so just
reset it and it did normal procedure after I did that.

I think you will find the shut down very fast compared to your windows
experience, but you will also find the start up to be sort of the opposite or
an inversion to your windows experience too.

That and the air will stop circulating because it will turn off. When you
start with your mac you will find it's shutdown is much faster than your
windows machines before, unless something is open and blocks it and at some
point v o will start speaking. But cursoring around with nothing from v o
will give you a quick clue that it's shutting down.

just make the flash drive and stick it in when I need to do a clean instal
and it will take about 3 hours including the transferring of data from a
 back up drive.

Yes it does without going through the normal dialog. Kind of handy when you

Also we should factor in that Mac has a fast shutdown. It's a lot faster

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an

and then, and it looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in the
 short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless
there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access a

The eject key is 1 key to the right on the mac laptop keyboard. I learned
of this I believe through the apple manu when they did the keystrokes
there at one time, 2 years ago. It is a nice way to shut down. Just hit
control cmd option eject to shot down, cmd option eject to sleep and
control cmd eject to reboot.

Take care.

Hi Chris

My only suggestion is that you can feel the fan and HD activity until
your machine is shut down. No, VoiceOver often goes down some time
before the machine because the OS does a bit of housekeeping before it
closes. If you use the system shortcut, Command+Option+Control+Eject,
unless there are operating system windows open which require user
intervention, your machine will usually shut down of its own accord. If
you use the system shortcut Command+Control+Eject, the machine will
usually restart of its own accord unless there are user windows open
which require intervention. Sometimes, even those windows are closed by
the operating system. An example of one which usually does not close is
iTunes prompting you to enter information.

I cannot see when the menu when
 boot
options comes up so I end up having to count up to 30 and even then I
 might
find myself going back into Mac OS by mistake. It would be great if there
was a second system sound when you get to option boot menu.

machine because the OS does a bit of housekeeping before it closes. If
you use the system shortcut, Command+Option+Control+Eject, unless there
are operating system windows open which require user intervention, your
machine will usually shut down of its own accord.

Re: Burning ML to SD card.

2012-08-03 Thread Esther
Hi Geoff,

Just to further comment on Gordon's points about the Partition tab in Disk
Utility. I think that to prepare your SD card (or a USB memory stick) for
being a bootable volume, the preferred method is to use the Partition tab and
create a new partition, which also deletes existing content in the process,
rather than to use the Erase tab. Most USB thumb drives and SD media card
come formatted for use with FAT32 files for Windows, since Macs can read these
formats.

The distinction is that when you make a bootable drive for current Macs, you
not only need to specify the format for files (e.g., Mac OS Extended,
Journaled), but that you're using a GUID Partition table (for an Intel Mac)
vs. an Apple Partition map (for an older PowerPC Mac, or for a device that is
not being used as a startup device) vs. a Master Boot Record for devices used
to start up DOS or Windows devices, or devices that require DOS- or
Windows-compatible partitions.

In order to get access to those options, you have to create a new partition by
changing the popup button for the partition layout of your device from
Current to 1 partition (or however many you want). Then you can assign
name, format, and size to your partition and press the Options button to
select one of the three options I described above (GUID, Apple, or MBR). These
changes take effect when you click Apply.

I believe that Carbon Copy Cloner lets you choose a menu item to Create a
Mountain Lion Installer, which takes care of all the selection options
automatically, since it assumes you need this as a bootable drive, just as the
default options to use it to make a bootable clone handles this preparation and
the formatting settings. But it is possible to prep the drive manually as I
described by using the Partition tab of Disk Utility instead of the Erase
tab.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Then, click Apply and then click Partition. Your partition will then be

ML issues updated.

2012-08-03 Thread Danny Noonan
Ok, Firstly, it seems,my scientific method is sorely lacking at 1 am so several
dispirit conditions lead me to make incorrect and in retrospect, ludicrous
assumptions regarding issues I'm having in Mountain Lionon my 2011 mbp.
There are issues but on further investigation, they are different than I
thought.

There are issues that come and go such as previously mentioned inability to
expand or unexpand threaded message trees which coincides with an inability to
drag and drop interacted mailboxes into the favourites menu bar. I am still
unable to move or remove items from within the favourites bar at any time.

The issue that was so confusing me I have a feeling is related as it too comes
and goes but again, I'll save my assumptions until I'm smart enough to test
them properly. At times, when switching between finder folders with command `
or command ~ the title of the window isn't spoken but rather the first item in
the window or at times, the previous window. This combined with the
expanded/unexpanded status on items being spoken within the tables in said
windows, I would copy items, command ` to another window of a sub folder, paste
them with option command v and then on going back to the window with the parent
folder, would search to make sure the items were moved, i.e., no longer in the
folder but not be able to here that the sub folder was expanded so go down to
the files in the sub folder still thinking i was in the parent folder. .

At the same time as either the mail issues or the finder issues happen,
selecting consecutive items or using the vo command space method to select
nonconsecutive items speaks number of items selected but no name and vo f6
tells me no or 1 item selected.

It's the on again off again nature of this strange combination of issues that I
find most surprising. It's like when an invisible window would turn up in
windows and stuff up JFW or a particular combination of windows covering
others is blocking some important status information so voiceover can't find
it. but then just go away with out any obvious reason. change

Anyway, regardless it doesn't matter as no one can expect a brand new OS to be
perfect and now I know what is happening, I can take more time and care and
avoid this causing me to break things any more. smile

Sorry for the waffling posts but thought it worth mentioning in case anyone
else ends up with similar issues down the track.

Regards,
Danny:

Re: Tables in PDF documents

2012-08-03 Thread Esther
Hello Paul,

You might try one of Wondershare's products -- either PDF Converter for Mac or
PDF Converter Pro -- in trial mode. This is a kind of hokey answer, and I
wouldn't want to purchase the product ($59.99 or $79.99 for Pro) unless they
made some accessibility fixes to their interface. The conversion seems robust.
What worked for me was using their trial downloads, which are limited to
converting 5 pages, to convert from PDF to Rich Text Format. By default the
conversion seems to go to Word (.docx) format, and those seemed to come out as
gibberish for me. HTML worked, and then I tried the conversion to .rtf, which
is probably what you will want to use.

Get one of the trial downloads of either PDF Converter for Mac or PDF Converter
Pro from:
http://www.wondershare.com/pdf-converter/mac/
If you use the web rotor set to links, and look for Free trial, you'll get
two sets of matches to the free trial downloads for the standard and pro
versions: the first set are the standard and pro version links at the bottom of
a feature comparison table, and the second set are the summary descriptions for
the products with pricing, trial and buy links at the bottom of the page,
again for the standard and pro versions. (The pro version adds OCR capability).

The program starts up with a Wondershare PDF Converter (Unregistered) window
with a scroll area that will populate with your selected files. To run the
program use the File menu on the menu bar to Add files with the Command-L
shortcut. Your selections get loaded into the scroll area of the Wondershare
PDF Converter (Unregistered) window, and there's an unlabeled button outside
the scroll area that runs the conversion. However, you can use the shortcuts
from the Convert menu of Command-R to run or Command-Shift-R to cancel
instead doing a VO-Space on that unlabeled button to run the program. For each
file there is an initial button that can be pressed to Preview the PDF, and
then for the currently selected file there's a second button you can press to
specify the conversion format and page range. However, you can bypass this by
pressing Command-F to use the File Configuration shortcut from the File
Menu to bring up the dialog box with the same information. This lets you
specify page range (defaults to all, but you can customize by typing, for
example 1,3,5-8 into the text box), and the format in the pop up menu (e.g.
Rich Text Format). The check box for Apply to all lets you apply the
format selection to all files you have loaded into the scroll area to date.
Run the program with Command-R. Files with similar name but .rtf extension
will be placed in the same directory as your selected file. If you choose
HTML, then the converted file is always named index.html.

This seems to work. There are paid versions in the Mac App Store, but if you
only need to read your bills, you can just use the trial version, which limits
you to 5 pages per document. I'll give you the App Store links:
• PDF Converter
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pdf-converter/id414200948?mt=12
• PDF Converter Pro
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pdf-converter-pro/id422540826?mt=12

Sarah and others, the issue that Paul has hit is that the PDF versions of
tables reads out of order: all the entries from column 1 then all the entries
from column 2. Try printing a PDF version of a table you can read correctly on
the web. When you use Preview or Skim the columns are read out of order.
Using the New TextEdit Window from Selection service doesn't help: if you
start from the HTML version, the TextEdit window will read the table in correct
order, but if you start from the PDF version, the conversion in the TextEdit
window will read the same way. I tried a few other converters that gave the
same behavior. That's also why I tried converting to HTML, as well with this
program.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

I'm unsure if it will do tables but it's worth a try.

 Hello,
Is there anything in the Mac App store which will run on Mountain Lion and
convert PDF documents containing tables into a form which can be read with
 VoiceOver?

My bank provides my credit card statement as a PDF file only. It does not
read correctly with Preview which displays each column in the table
separately. Using Abbyyy fine reader to create a spreadsheet document does a
slightly better job displaying the date and description in a table with
separate columns but alas the amount is in a separate following table.

So at present I have to start Windows XP under VMWare Fusion and use Adobe
Acrobat to convert the PDF document
