RE: Really odd Issue With Mac And Spacebar

2014-01-23 Thread Roger Firman
Gordon,

I hesitate to suggest anything as I tend to think you will probably have
investigated what follows.

Do you have an application or way of testing which applications are
running and if so, if you close anything you can, do you still have the
issue with the spacebar?

I was also wondering if doing a re-installation of the Operating System
might solve the issue.

Roger.

What! the Heck? Bizarre!

Totally, bizarre! Have you tried another keyboard just to see if maybe you
got yourself a sticky spacebar? Yeah, I know, it's not likely, I agree, and
yeah, I'm sure knowing you, you probably already thought to try that, but
hey, it's a suggestion, none the less.

Hello all

I’m currently experiencing a really odd issue with my Mac. No matter what I
try, I’m unable to use my space bar without using a modifier key such as the
shift key when pressing space. Does anybody happen to have any suggestions
as to why this might be?

Now and then, if I forget to use the modifier key, kind of system window
which Lynne says looks like the window that you sometimes get if you
right-click on an object or similar, using the physical trackpad or a mouse.

If anybody can help me resolve this, i’d be most grateful as it’s driving me
absolutely bananas.

Gordon, Another thing to try that I didn't think of doing justa second ago
is, try creating another user on your system if you can get that far without
going insane! Then log out of your normal user and into the test user
account. then see if it continues. This'll let us know if it's system
wide, or if it's something just with your user account. If, the ladder, I
can try to give you some pointers, if you don't already know them, of how
you might could then migrate your stuff to the new account, then wipe the
bad user once all's definitely been fully migrated.

I'm having some odd things myself not key board related.

what happens if you reboot the computer?

What happens if you close all apps then log out and back in?

does this happen if you have any particular piece of software running?

Have you checked your disk for errors when booted in to the recovery consul?

I'm also thinking a key is stuck software wise, like something to do with
the mouse Did you disable the mouse keys with 5 presses of the option key to
see if that works?

This is all I can think of this late at night so good luck and hope that

If the above doesn't work try to look for a .plist file to delete which might

packet loss is a good one.

Anyway, now that I have the preferences, etc, in the trash, since I am a
fairly new Mac user, maybe someone can tell me whether there is a way to
determine where those files in the trash originated? I would like to know
the locations of the files so that I can compare and try to further isolate
what caused the issue. It is not immediately obvious how to determine where
the files in the trash came from. I tried Command I but that didn’t do it.

He might actually be on ethernet, so don't just assume that as the only
possibility. That said, I do agree it sounds like you're having some sort
of a connection issue. Does the internet work for you outside of
YoruFukurou? Second of all, when's the last time you checked for updates
to the app? I wonder if either something in your account broke or maybe
it's having issues communicating back and forth with Twitter's API? I
don't necessarily mean your API calls. I'm talking more generally about
the API in a whole which allows YoruFukurou or any other twitter client to
 connect to their servers.

The other thing too you may wanna try, Jeff, is to completely remove all
broken Twitter accounts from YoruFukurou's preferences, then re-add them,
 and see if that helps.

Also, are you sure you're on your timeline tab? Open up the app, and hit
command+num row 1. This will reset your view, and confirm beyond a doubt
that you're truely on your timeline. Also, if you have multiple accounts
set up, try command up and command down arrows I think it is, to move
through the different accounts. See if all your accounts in there are
broken and are consisting of this unusual behavior.

 Chris.

 Subject: Problem with Yorufukirou

Having a problem for the past week or so with Yorufukirou that I can’t seem
 to solve.

Whenever I load it, there is a message that says “preparing” and a progress
indicator. This never goes away and my timelines for multiple accounts do
not load. In fact, nothing else happens at all. I did get the message
that I was rate limited once or twice, but that never even happens now. I
went into preferences and made sure the refresh was set to a sensible time
in case that was truly the problem.

So the problem is that I can’t figure out how to completely remove
Yorufukurou and reinstall it. Whenver I remove it and reinstall, the same
situation occurs. I have looked for its associated caches/preferences and
it doesn’t seem to have any that I can find. I am using the App Store
version. I thought when you trashed an app from the App Store, it was
entirely removed. Apparently, that may not be the case. Has anyone
experienced this issue and possibly solved it?

Re: Really odd Issue With Mac And Spacebar

2014-01-23 Thread Gordon Smith

 Hi eileens
The problem is software, not hardware. The space bar works
fine when used with a modifier key. It is a preference froblem
of some kind I believe.

Hi Gordon,

This is a simple solution, but maybe sometype of foreign partical
has gotten into the spacebar. What about using some compressed
air to see if you can clean it out before taking more drastic
measures. There are times that my Mac Air keyboard needs me to
press a keystroke twice before it opens or selects an item. The
above is just a thought.

Kind regards,
Eilcen

It works more times than not. I have noticed this more on the

Re: Really odd Issue With Mac And Spacebar

2014-01-23 Thread Esther
Hi Gordon,

As John and others have suggested, you should check whether this behavior is
present only for your account, or for other logins. That will determined
whether it is a user account specific plist file that has been corrupted.
Other things you can try are checking whether this behavior is also present
when you use a paired Bluetooth keyboard, which might point to a key remapping
issue rather than a physical keyboard problem. If you have old cloned bootable
backup, you could try attaching and booting from that hard drive and checking
whether the same problems exist for you under your account. That would also
help to separate out physical hardware issues from corrupted preference files.
I wouldn't expect key remapping to be an issue unless you have remapped keys as
part of a virtual machine installation or used KeyRemap4MacBook.

It's also possible that you could have text expansion or text substitution
software like TextExpander or Typinator running. again, that would probably
only affect your account

HTH? Cheers,

Esther

 Hi John
Yes, I'm sure it is a preference problem of some kind. I did look under the
shortcuts tab this morning but didn't spot anything obvious. But I'll go and
look again to see whether I can set back to defaults. As you quite rightly
suggest, that would certainly be a good place to start. I wish that I could
point the finger at a specific time and event when this starting being a
problem for me. But I will head off there now and look. Many thanks for the
 reshodse.

 Gordon,

I would go to system preferences keyboard then shortcut tab and set to
 defaults.

If the above doesn't work try to look for a .plist file to delete which might
also set to defaults. Which ior where that is have no clue.

Itunes, Deselecting items

2014-01-23 Thread Marc Sutton
Hello Listers,
If you have Itunes set to only sync selected albums, playlists, songs, etc.,
there is a mix of checked check boxes. Does anyone have a method for either
resetting them all to unchecked so you can choose new albums, for example, or
to find which ones are checked without having to browse the entire library.
Thanks for any tips.
Marc
