Re: Skype and Adium Questions

2010-11-28 Thread Mark BurningHawk Baxter
I'm not sure what you mean by switching from window to window in Skype; if you
mean between chat messages, you can use command plus option plus left or right
arrow to switch between conversations. To play your voice mail, navigate to
the "Source list," choose the sender of the voice mail, navigate to the HTML
content area and interact with it, then find the button that says "Play or stop
voice mail."

For Adium, if facebook contacts are not on line they don't show up in the
contacts table, unless you check the "show off line contacts," box.

Skype and Adium Questions

2010-11-28 Thread Ezzy Bueno

Hi Folks,
I have a couple of questions about using Skype:

1) How can I navigate from window to window?
 2) How can I check my voicemails?

Regarding Adium, how can I view my Facebook contacts that are
online? I connected both FB and AIM and can see my AIM contacts.
Where are the Facebook ones?

Thanks for any help that you can offer!

Sincerely,

Try just typing in the new file name and pressing Enter, if all the other
defaults are unchanged. Also maybe try VO shift space on the Save button,
though I use save as a lot and I haven't ever experienced this...

Re: using speech commands on the Mac

2010-11-28 Thread Ruud Bemelmans
I was messing around with this a week or so ago and I didn't have too
much difficulty with it when I used the key activated speech commands.
Obviously I could only do that when VoiceOver wasn't rattling on about
which element I was on at the time or when I didn't have music on. For
those of you who want to try it, change the key to something that
doesn't interfere with navigational commands, because by default it is
Escape and that blocked any other function the key had, which was very
annoying. When I had it listen out for "Computer" or whichever
recognition word and then the command I got a response 2 out of 10
times, which wasn't very productive on a whole. I think speech commands
just hasn't been developed properly yet, because it's hard to isolate
the command if there's a lot of sound going on. I haven't gotten
dictation programs to work either, but I blame that mostly on myself for
being to lazy to read out the texts to help it recognize my speech nuances.
Overall, I had fun messing with it for a bit, but even though I could
say "get my mail" while I was in whichever app I'm still faster with the
keyboard or trackpad commands.

problems saving using save as in text edit and pages

2010-11-28 Thread Marlaina Lieberg
Ok, this is a weird one! I suddenly, as of about 3 days ago, can't do save-as
in either Text Edit or Pages and make my work save. In each app, I do these
steps and get the same results:

press command shift s for save as
type in the new file name (I have to do this because of a need to save previous
drafts)
navigate using either vo right or tab to select the file type which is always
word 97
navigate using vo right or tab to the default save button
press vo space and vo says save button pressed

results: nothing; the save-as dialogue box is still open, and the file does
not save. I have tried all the above and pressing enter on the default save
button but sill get the same result. My husband turns vo off and mouses around
and it works for him just fine. I have checked with vo f5 to see that the
mouse is on the save button, and it always is.

Did my Air get ticked off at me because I took it on a great cruise, or is it
ticked off at me because we're back on dry land! Seriously, I'm looking at
having to do a good bit of editing in the next couple of days and this is
making me crazy! Any help would be really appreciated. As far as I know, I
have not changed anything anywhere; this just started and at first it was
intermittent but now it is reliable, the dang thing don't work! :)

Re: Final vinyl

Hi Colin:
Same Carolyn all around. Final Vinyl is free from Griffin Technologies. I
don't know well enough how to use these kinds of programs and get easily
intimodated by them. Just as an example, I took a look at Audacity, and
couldn't even begin to figure out where to start. :)
I have something called a Griffin iMic, and the mac recognizes it ok. But, the
software and where to start is a mystery. I did find the little guide, but
guess I need a little more hand-holding to get me started.:).

Why doesn't someone come up with "turntable to mac for dummies?"
Anyhow, I'll have a peak at vinyl studio.
Thank you.

Hi Mark,

the guy at the Apple store made it sound like a breeze, but so far I'm getting
nothing. I may go back in and see if he can help me further. In either case,
I'll keep you posted. Seems like a really handy feature, I could get into

Hello,

I have to play a wma-file on the mac.

The convert-program switch is installed on my macbook but requires flip4mac:

I have installed this but, when I try to convert the wma to a mp3-file , switch

It doesn't matter in which format the file is but I should be able to listen
to it on my ipod shuffle or iphone4.

Thanx alot for your help,

best regards,

Hello Brett,

Once you've found the cell you want to edit, bring the mouse to it, then double
tap with one finger and you can edit it.

Re: safari not always alerting when page is loaded

2010-11-28 Thread Anne Robertson

Hello Carolyn,

My husband had a lot of problems with Safari after the update. He repaired
permissions but that didn't fix things so he did Verify Disk and an error was
found. He then did a Repair Disk using the Disk Utility from the Snow Leopard
installation disk. This fixed his problems.

So, if Verify Disk shows an error, shut down your computer, then insert the
installation disk and hold down the letter C as you press the Power button.
Keep the C key held down until you hear the install disk getting busy.

When the language chooser window comes up, click continue and on the next
screen you'll find the Menu bar. Go along to Utilities and down to Disk
Utility. After that, it's just like using Disk Utility from the Utilities
folder.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: dialog box when opening pages

2010-11-28 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Laura,

This happens because there are some fonts used in Windows that are not
available on the Mac. I just click on Not Now and carry on as though nothing
had happened.

When you export back to Word, these fonts are reinstated.

As far as I know, there's no way of getting rid of this message.

Cheers,

Anne

Go to www.apple.com and click on the "store" link. The US price is $99 for the
Apple TV and $149 for the Apple TV with 160 GB drive.
In Canada, add $20 for each of these.

I would think the answer would be yes to both. You connect your outside

Hi Chris:
To me, since the update Safari's been kind of a mess. It doesn't indicate when
it's loaded, gets stuck on links a lot, and often requires restarting of
voiceover to get it moving. I emailed accessibility ad apple and asked them to
make note to see if others have the sam or similar observations. I'd encourage
you to drop them a quick note on what you're experiencing.

Re: Sharing files on Mac and Windows...

2010-11-28 Thread David Hole

Hi man, and thanks for that.
It seems to me that you're right :(
This irritates me a bit... :(
Maybe the only solution will be to buy some DropBox-storage and take
things that way :(

-David
Den 28.11.2010 02:32, skrev Yuma Decaux:

Hi,

This most probably has to do with how you have file sharing setup on
both systems. Let's not make assumptions on the windows system as
usually it is quite more open than macs :)

On the mac, you should setup a shared folder, and in your accounts
preferences get the shared folder for SMB. SMB is the protocl used by
windows for file sharing.

One more thing, since macs can only read on NTFS partitions, a mac can
copy the file from a windows partition to its own partition, but i
doubth you can place a windows file or folder from a windows partition
to your mac partition.

I haven't tried this, but freshly out of snow 101 certification, this is
my best bet.

Hope this helps somehow

Re: iWork: Numbers specifically

2010-11-28 Thread Brett Campbell
Anne, in regards to your suggestion of using the trackpad to find a cell, this
does work great. However, when I locate a desired cell on the trackpad, and
then use the keyboard to enter data, the focus isn't in the cell I had focused
on with the trackpad. Is this your experience? Are you able to type in the
cell you located with the trackpad?

2010-11-28 Thread Nicolai Svendsen
Hi!

I have noticed it on Mac OS X a few times, but mostly on YouTube. I can't
really find a pattern, not does it seem that frequent to me.

As for James' statement, that sounds like a hell of an overstatement in 4.2.

Hi,

When you first go to the site, you will be on the e-mail edit field. Type it
in then tab once to the password edit field. After you have entered your
password, press return. Once you have logged in, Voiceover works pretty good
with the site.

Hi,

I believe the Numbers documentation, specifically the user manual is available
on Apple's site. It's in .pdf format, so a program like Preview will handle

Re: iWork: Numbers specifically

2010-11-28 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Joshua,

Here's what I posted elsewhere on how to find specific information in a cel in
Numbers. I find the trackpad commander to be very useful for finding a specific
cell.

First of all, here's how to locate a specific value in a cell:

Numbers

To find specific content,
Turn cursor tracking off;
Press Command-f and enter search term;
Navigate down and interact with scroll area;
Interact with table:
Find desired result;
Bring mouse to VO cursor and do a mouse click (VO-Shift-Space);
Stop interacting with table and scroll area;
Navigate up to next scroll area;
Interact with scroll area, Layout area, and Layout item;
You will be on the selected cell;
Press VO-Shift-T to identify the cell.

Cheers,

Anne

2010-11-28 Thread brandt

Hi there folks,

I am also rather urgently looking for documentation on Numbers, a lot of my
work is done currently in excel spreadsheets, though due to my swich that
won't be a usable option any more. (not sorry about ditching Windows though)

Subject: iWork: Numbers specifically

Hello all,
I am looking for some additional documentation on using programs in the
iWork suite with Voice Over. I would especially like information on using
Numbers, as that is the program with which I am having the most difficulty.
I have a spreadsheet I created in Excel which I use to keep track of books I
have read. I have columns for author, title, series, etc. I would like to
know how to jump to a specific cell, if that is possible. Additionally, I'd
like to know how to search for text within the spreadsheet, for example, I'd
like to be able to search for "Anne Rice", and jump directly to the first
cell in the spreadsheet which contains that author's name.

Thanks much,
Joshua
