2011-09-17 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hey Gigi. I'm not sure what you meant by "Voices that sighted people like to
put on the Mac sometimes." Usually if a sighted person uses a computer, they
don't need Voice Over or other screen readers. But if I had to guess, would you
be referring to the Acapela voices? If so, go to assistiveware's website and
you can download a 30 day demo of these voices. However, if you want to buy
these voices, it's $99 for the first language pack. There's also Cepstral but I
don't recommend those voices. HTH.

SPSS for Mac?]

Hi Rafael and Al Puzzoli,

If either of you or the student that Al speaks of has access to an iOS device,
there are currently some free math educational apps for iPhone, iPod Touch, and
iPad that appear to be accessible and capable of doing statistics. There may
be others. but the one that I just tried out because it has currently gone free
(usually $0.99) is called "Statistics Pro" by Larry Feldman:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/statistics-pro/id353217077?mt=8
I've tried the first few modules on Data Analysis and Linear Regression, and
these seem to work accessibly. I'd recommend using a Bluetooth Keyboard and
turning QuickNav on for data entry navigation. There are a few caveats.
First, the data are limited in the number of points that can be handled, with a
maximum of 30 data entries, and also a minimum number of data points for some
functions (or you obviously won't be able to calculate some statistical
measures like variance). The "Data Points" text box will tell you the allowed
range of number of data points. You must enter a number here before you double
tap the "Analyze" button (or activate it by pressing the up and down arrow keys
simultaneously on a Bluetooth keyboard if QuickNav is on). By default, empty
entries will be treated as 0 (and this is announced at the start: "Data (blanks
are 0)"). VoiceOver will announce the heading for the "Data Points" text box
out of sequence if you flick through, because the data entries (x1, x2, x3,
etc.) are in one column, and the buttons/text boxes for "Clear Data", "Data
Points", and "Analyze" are in a second column in the top half of the screen.
(You can verify this if you run your finger vertically down from the "Data
(blanks are 0)" label near the top of the screen about a quarter to a third of
the way across from the left edge; then when you are on the text box for "x1",
move your finger horizontally to the right to the "Clear Data" button, and
switch to moving vertically down. You'll hear "Clear Data" button, "Data
Points", "[4,30] text field, double tap to edit", then "Analyze" button.) So
when you do a "read all" two finger flick up, VoiceOver will alternate between
reading the two columns, and you'll hear the "Data (blanks are 0)" message,
then "x1 text field", "Clear Data" button, "x2 text field", "Data Points", "x3
text field", "[4,30] text field", "x4 text field", "capital S button", "x5 text
field", "button", "capital R button", and "Analyze button".

I would just navigate with the keyboard to each field in sequence, and realize
that in the previous instance I will be entering the first 3 data points (x1,
x2, and x3) before coming to the text box for the total number of data points,
then continue entering data values until I want to move to the "Analyze" button
(last element in the screen, so do a four finger tap on the bottom of the
screen to move there, or use Control+Down arrow on the keyboard). You'll get
announcements of the mean, standard deviation, median, maximum and outliers.
The "capital S" button saves your entries, and "capital R" restores them. The
unlabeled "button" is an info button that tells you this.

There are a few other concerns. VoiceOver reads out the text summary of the
analysis quite well, but it won't read Greek letters (e.g., "mu" for the mean),
or certain symbols for square root, etc. On the Mac I handle this be sending
the output to TextEdit. I'm not sure how to work around things here. It may
be possible to do an image capture and OCR with another app. However, if you
know what is going on, you can still follow the formulae results based on the
written text summaries. I've only done some quick testing, but this may be
usable. Each menu item listed in the app, such as "Data Analysis", "Linear
Regression", "Normal Distribution", etc. has two sub menus: Solver (where you
input values) and Tutorial (where there are general explanations of the
concepts behind the calculation). Try taking a look at this, and possibly
other iOS apps for statistics. As I noted, this one is currently free, so you
can experiment. I'm cc'ing this to the viphone list, since this is an iOS app.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

To be sure, knowing SPSS is of great value, but most heads of research projects
make allowances for the lack of accessibility of the software to blind
investigators. Large research facilities employ statisticians, anyway.

Thanks, Eric. I guess we'll have to ask Esther if she can help by reposting

The problem is most of my music is mp3 files that I brought into iTunes a few

don't want it to add anything unless I specifically ask it to.

Re: Laptop / Bluetooth vs. Standard Keyboard

2011-09-17 Thread Garth Humphreys
Hi Scot

It is not that I feel really strongly about the caps lock thing, I did my
research prior to buying my Mac and still chose to get it. All I was saying is
that it seemed pretty weird to me that this wasn't supported and frankly the
sort of thing that I would have assumed would have been long ago added. You
are right about the quick nav keys and the trackpad commander making the VO
keys less necessary.

I guess my point is that I think we should make requests of apple to add
features we believe would improve the overal user experience and efficiency of
using theOSX platform. This of course applies to the reporting of bugs as
well. If something is broken or could be improved then write Apple
Accessibility about it. This is how we can help to make things better. After
all, things have improved since Tiger, ie, the afore mentioned quick nav and
track pad commander have been added. Maybe this was because of feedback maybe
not but I would assume that if the only feedback apple got about VO was how
wonderful it was then they would not have bothered improving it.

I am sorry that my assertion that sugarcoating wasn't necessary was interpreted
as rude and demanding. This was not my intent. I was just marvelling at how
polite Eric was in his request to Apple. I was not criticising it. My approach
though would be to be a little more direct. That is, if it is a feature request
then just state the request and explain the benefit. If it is a bug report then
explain the bug and the steps to replicate it. The apple employees are I would
assume professionals and would take this kind of approach just as seriously as
one that was sugarcoated.

I am sorry if I have offended anyone. I do feel that it is important that we
help to address issues rather than just wishing it would get better.

All the best Garth

turning QuickNav on for data entry navigation.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi Dona,

First of all, you can count on it coming from a true novice:

I don't really yet know what I am talking about, but, if the MBP is turned on,
try pressing Cmd+Eject and see if that ejects the disk.

RE: Question regarding home networking.

2011-09-17 Thread Allison Mervis
Hi Scott.

Thanks so much for your response. All of the pc's and both macs are
successfully connected to the network, either via WIFI or Ethernet. However,
I want to be able to share files between all of the machines. On the pc's,
I'm able to go into the network and sharing center, see all of the computers
in the home group, and copy files and folders between them. Can this be done
on the mac? Thanks again.

Allison,

Adding the MInis would be no different than adding the PCs. In fact once you
turn on wireless networking or connect them via ethernet, assuming your
network is configured using dhcp, the Minis will pull IP addresses from the
router.

Oh sorry about that,

Haptic technology, in the case of the link, alows you to feel definition on a
hard surface, like protrusions and cavities, with either vibrations or
electrical charges.

The example on the link i sent is the latter, on a polymer based laminate which
usually would fit on the surface of devices such as the iphone ipad or ipod
touch.

Hope this helps

Re: Questions

2011-09-17 Thread Eugenia Firth
> Hi Becky.
Welcome to apparently the growing numbers of we blind folks switching or
starting to use Macs. I'm fairly new myself, but I have discovered some of the
answers to the questions you asked.
I got a program called Louis that you can translate brf files with. It was
given to me, so I can't tell you how to get it. I haven't tried it yet, but I
heard works ok. Now as to reading brf files directly, I got TextEdit to call up
the files with command-o. Then I was asked what program I wanted from now on to
open the brf files with. Unfortunately, there is no computer mbraille option
(please I hope there will be someday, and I am crossing my fingers for one.)
So, you can't read directly with a braille display brf files with VoiceOver.
People have been talking about the VO keys, but I'd settle for a computer
braille option first. Just my wants, mind you. Actually, I really need one.

Re: voices

2011-09-17 Thread Traci
Hi,

The best way I know how to do this is…

Going to voiceover utility, vo-f8, then command-3 for speech. I either
vo-right_arrow or tab here, make sure the voices tab is selected. Get over to
the default voice and select it. In this pop-up menu, at the bottom is to
customize it. Select this and you will be brought to the premium voices.
There is a table to interact with, where all the voices are, then a play button
to listen to them. Once you select your voice, you can download it
automatically, which will bring you to software update.

Below, I'm going to try to paste a link to a podcast from Vision Australia,
that has an excellent and simple podcast describing how to do this. HTH

Lol, ok, I obviously haven't learned how to copy a link from Safari yet.
*Grin,* google for the podcast.

Hi everyone.

My boyfriend and I currently have all of the PC's in our house networked via
a home group. We recently purchased Mac minis, and we would like to add them
to the network as well. How exactly is this accomplished? Is the fact that
the network was originally created on a PC going to cause issues? Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.

RE: SPSS for Mac?

2011-09-17 Thread Bejarano, Rafael P.
I looked into SPSS a couple of years ago, and the Mac version was no more
accessible than the Windows version.

The best bet, I think, is to write software to calculate whatever stats one
needs (or to have someone else do so, if one does not know how to code). The
Python programming language appears to be a good candidate for this purpose.
Your student might get some pointers as to how to go about this by reading a
recently released book. The author's name is Alan Downey, and the book is
entitled Think Stats.

I wish your student luck, and please do post any useful information about
accessible statistical software on this list. I'm sure more than one of us
would find such information useful.

Cordially,
Rafael Bejarano

Well, this is not exactly what you want, but default folder X is supposed to
allow you to have keyboard shortcuts and additional neat features in the file

I know the price is $35, but I did not check to see if there was a free trial.

Re: finder document, what is this?

2011-09-17 Thread Jon Cohn
It is a document that the finder does not have a translation to describe what
it is. Generally every application has a "plist" file within the application
that lists file extensions that the application supports and also gives a
descriptive name to the file extension. This is how Word documents get
associated with the .doc extension.

THere is a command line tool called file which might be able to tell you what
kind of file you are looking at. The file command looks not only at the
extension, but also the first 100 or so bytes of the file looking for a "magic"
token describing the type of file.

The file command is a standard UNIX/Linux commands.

Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: good (un)rar/(un)zip prog for os x lion

If there is a command line interface to compress the files but no GUI and the
person wants something in the contextual menu, then a short automator script
should be able to enable this. I am not personally very agile at using the

Re: smart mail boxes

2011-09-17 Thread Jon Cohn
Well, there are actually "Smart Folders" in Mail app directly too. They are
just a way to merge several Smart Mailboxes much the way that the Inbox folder
collects all of your different Inboxes into one view. If the "Smart Mailboxes"
allowed a bit more control in their selection criteria then you would not need
to have Smart Folders.

For example if you want a grouping of all unread e-mail messages from your
Address Book groups friends, Interesting People, and Family that are older
then 3 days. You have two choices:

1. Create 3 separate Smart Mailboxes 1 for each group, and then merge them
together into a smart folder.
2. Create a Smart Group in your address book contain all members of Friends,
family and Interesting people.
2. Create a smart mailbox for the smart group and unread and received more then
3 days ago.

Jonathan

Re: Laptop / Bluetooth vs. Standard Keyboard

2011-09-17 Thread Ricardo Walker
I don't feel strongly about it but, I think it would make voiceover better. I
don't know anyone who prefers to press more keys than less keys at a time. It
might have made sense in Tiger for the VO keys to be control and option but,
now? I don't know. I just think it would make voiceover that much easier to
use. And it wouldn't compromise anything. I haven't had a problem with VO
keys either but, that doesn't mean it can't be made to be better.

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Iona,
If you use disk utility, which is a choice when you boot up with command r and
Fred, then yes. You can erase your drive. Afterwards, because it is erased, you
will start from scratch. By the way, you can also change your language for the
time being, that you have not reinstalled Lion yet. If you need help with a
specific subject let us know.

It amazes me how strongly people feel about this caps lock key issue. I have
been using VoiceOver since Tiger and honestly I have never had a problem with
the VO-keys and hell with quick nav it really is almost unnecessary for the VO
keys. Do you think Freedom Scientific would be willing to allow a user to
change the caps lock to any key or key combination they chose? Oh and as far as
how you package your request, if you come across as demanding and rude, I would
not anticipate your request being taken very seriously and that is exactly how
your message comes across.
Apple engineering obviously had a reason to choose a specific key combination
and obviously the number of requests to change to something different or allow
the user to choose any key or key combination has not been all that strong.

Thanks. This helped. I was doing it right, apparently, all the way to
leaving the scroll area and then moving to the fields. Before when I lef
the scroll area I was using the down swipes on my trackpad and the tab key
and completely missing the size and such I would have found with right
swipes. Thanks.

Bill,
The filesystem, like fat32, mac os extended journaled etc, is chosen while
you create the partitions. First choose the number of partitions from the
drop down. 1, 2 3 etc. You want 3, right? Then, interact with the scroll
area, vo space on the first partition, stop interacting, and then, outside
the scroll area, don't bother with the size control. Instead, simply fill in
the text boxes with your desired sizes for the first partition. Then, go
interact with the scroll area again, but now select the second partition in
there. Stop interacting, fill in the file system, volume name and size boxes
again, and then continue to partition 3.
Hth,
Paul.

Hi again,

So do you mean that to reinstall you need to be connected via cable? Would the

because I only have 6 gb per month and would love to avoid downloading the

Re: Trackpad

2011-09-17 Thread Cody
I find that when i type my wrist bumps the trackpad and if the keyboard
commander is on then it jumps all over the place. I would just disable the
trackpad commander when you're not using it, I wouldn't mess with the
sensitivity, but I wouldn't put all your weight on it either.

Customizing Go Menu

2011-09-17 Thread Traci
Hello, I've been googling this lately and coming up empty.

You know in finder the go menu, under this is things like library, computer,
documents, downloads, etc. Does anyone know if we can add to this and create a
keyboard shortcut for the addition?

For example, I'd like my dropbox folder to be there with a keyboard shortcut
attached. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Traci

Re: reinstalling lion

2011-09-17 Thread Dan
Hello,
This brings up another question.
When reinstalling Lion, how does a VoiceOver user access the internet from the
recovery drive?
In other words:
1. The computer has been rebooted using Command R at the chime.
2. VO using Fred has been started.
3. Now it's time to start the reinstall process for a clean install.
4. The OS wants to verify the machines serial number with Apple.
Now the question comes in to play. How does a blind VO user access a wired
internet service?
When I emailed Apple's Accessibility group, they just said that they were
working on this problem.
Any suggestions?
TIA.

finder document, what is this?

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Dear listers,
In most cases, a finder item can be either a folder, where it has no size in
the finder size column, it can be a file with an extension, and in that case
the file of course does have a readable size, but what, if finder says
document, in the kind, column? Is this a file? Is this a folder? I don't
understand the document type in finder. Anyone have an idea what this is? I
downloaded something and it is a document. Not rtf, doc, doc x, txt or
something, but a finder document. I took a picture of myself, or of the wall
behind me I don't know, lol, but that too becomes a document. Interested to
know what finder calls a document.

Re: Running a Mac with Windows on

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Jeff,

Here is the text you requested.
---
Your first question, what to do about a non-existent insert key inside a
virtual machine, is quite a story if you want to know the ins and outs. Along
the way, we will get there. Here you go.

First off, it is true that you have no insert key on the mac, while you often
do need one in windows. You can create a key mapping for yourself in 1 of 2
ways. Either using fusion itself, and there is no real down side as far as I'm
aware, but it is a little trickey to set up because of an interface issue in
fusion. The other way to get an insert key is to use the sharp keys program.
Sharp keys lets you remap a few more keys than fusion will allow. For example,
using sharp keys, you can even remap your right command, or your right option
key, to the windows insert.

If you do it via fusion, then all your virtual machines willl get an insert
key. If you have windows 7 and xp like I do, creating the insert key using the
fusion keyboard remapper creates it for all virtual machines because fusion
only allows you to do it inside its global preferences, command comma, and not
on a per machine basis, command e.

If you create your insert key using sharp keys, then it is going to be a local
setting for that windows installation only, because sharp keys modifies the
windows registry to do the trick. Both methods will give you the same result:
an insert key that is not just insert, but that can be held down as if it were
a modifier key for other keys.

This answers your other issue, where capslock cannot be used inside the virtual
machine as a modifier. It works as a caps lock, but you can't hold it down and
press a letter inside the virtual machine, in order to give commands to your
screen reader. Sharp keys and fusion itself though, will give you an insert key
like the one on a normal windows computer. This lets you use insert rather than
caps lock for your screen reader's commands, so let's concentrate on insert,
and I will leave caps lock for someone else.

Now, let's look at the way you can do it inside fusion. I'm using fusion 3.1.3,
which is the latest version as of today. To update, go to the menu bar in
fusion, vo m, then once right, then down to check for updates, and then follow
the instructions.

First, fire up fusion and, just to be certain, have your virtual machines shut
down. Then press command comma to open fusion's global preferences.

At the top of this window is a toolbar. Interact with it and click keyboard and
mouse. A new window will appear.

The first thing you will encounter is a pop up button where you choose your
keyboard and mouse profile. The window itself consists of 4 tab sheets, and all
those settings together are stored in a keyboard and mouse profile. I don't
think we will ever need a second profile, but that's what the button allows.
Leave it at its default.

The first tab sheet of this dialog, named, key mappings, is where you can swap
your windows logo and alt keys. By default, fusion will map your command key to
the windows logo key, and your option key to the windows alt key. This is not
very intuitive for those of us who are used to windows and its keyboard layout,
but it's easy to swap them. See below. In this window, you will also be able to
create your insert key inside fusion, and if you want, give yourself a num lock
toggle as well.

If you look at this table, then many mac keys are mapped to some windows
counterparts. Personally, I don't think that is necessary at all. For example,
in windows, you use control plus c to copy an item to the clipboard. On the
mac, we're used to pressing command plus c to copy. In fusion, there is a
default key mapping that makes command c the equivalent of control c. In other
words, pressing control c or command c in windows will do the same thing. This
is non-standard windows tweaking I don't like, so what I did to begin with, is
clear this entire list. To the right of this table, you have 2 unlabeled
buttons. The left one is add, and the right one is delete and entry in this
table. Just focus on the right button of the 2, and hit vo space until the list
is empty. You will also delete the undesired alt and windows logo key mappings
this way.

Now, you must create your own mappings, so that your mac command key will
become the alt key in windows, and so that your option key can become your
windows logo key inside windows. Here's how to do it.

First, click add, to add a new mapping to the table. This is the left unlabeled
button, to the right of the table. A new window appears, that you will later
close with an ok button to return here.

In the new window, you see your mac modifier keys with checkboxes, and a combo
box for an additional key. For example, you will hear shift unchecked checkbox,
and command, unchecked checkbox. In this case, where we want to map our option
key to the windows logo key, we don't need the combo boxes in this dialog, so

Re: reinstalling lion

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Ioana, and Teresa,
Because of a message by Ricardo Walker,I now know I forgot to mention a simpler
option. If lion is already installed Iona, you could also reinstall a clean
lion from the recovery partition. When lion installs, not only will it simply
install into macintosh hd, but a separate, hidden partition will also be
created by the lion installer. If you already have lion, no matter if it was
installed by the previous mac owner, the recovery partition will be there. Shut
down the mac, start it, and during the chime sound, hit, and keep holding,
command r. These 2 keys will boot the mac from its lion recovery partition.
After some ten seconds you can be sure the recovery partition is booting and
you can let go of command r. After 2 minutes or so it will be booted. Probably
less, but after you give it some time, hit command f5 to turn voiceover on.
Fred will help you from there.
Hth,
Paul.

Re: Need help partitioning a disk

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Bill,
The filesystem, like fat32, mac os extended journaled etc, is chosen while you
create the partitions. First choose the number of partitions from the drop
down. 1, 2 3 etc. You want 3, right? Then, interact with the scroll area, vo
space on the first partition, stop interacting, and then, outside the scroll
area, don't bother with the size control. Instead, simply fill in the text
boxes with your desired sizes for the first partition. Then, go interact with
the scroll area again, but now select the second partition in there. Stop
interacting, fill in the file system, volume name and size boxes again, and
then continue to partition 3.

Paul.

Re: good (un)rar/(un)zip prog for os x lion

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Anouk,
You can have the unarchiver from app store to unzip unrar etc. But if you also
want to create your own archives, an option is to install better zip from the
app store. It does cost a little. But with better zip and with the command line
rar tools in place, you can easily create your own rar files if you wish, and
zip is natively built into better zip. I wish its interface were simpler, but
it is very accessible and doable. So, to unarchive, if all you want is that,
use unarchiver. To create your own, one option is better zip. At least this
thing is accessible that I found.
Hth,
Paul.

Re: hotspot in yorufukurou?

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
A hotspot is simple to set up. Just go where you want the hot spot and hit vo
shift plus the number of the hotspot, 1 through 0. vo shift 1. To jump to that
hotspot hit vo 1 without the shift. You can even include hotspots inside a
voiceover activity so that you have your hotspot automatically available only
in this program.

Re: smart mail boxes

2011-09-17 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Rachel,
What is a smart folder? Hmm. Well a smart folder is a folder in finder, that
lets you aggregate files scattered over your disk, matching criteria you
specify. This way, these files need not be physically grouped, but you can view
them as if they were grouped indeed. A smart folder is not a real folder.
Instead, it's an intelligent search tool, of which you can save the criteria,
which is then called the smart folder. It is a feature in finder, whereas a
smart mailbox is a feature of mail.

One use for a smart folder, just to give you an example, could be a smart
folder where you group all rtf files together. Or all pages documents, created
after a certain date, just anything for that matter. Command option n, is to
open a new finder smart folder. You can choose where to search, and what type
of files you want in it, by selecting numerous things from a pop up menu. There
are some 5 or 6 given, but a whole lot more are behind the others, choice. To
follow this example, to find all rtf files, after you hit command, option, n,
to make a new smart folder, you select, file extension, from the large criteria
table. You will see a hide or unhide button in the smart folder creation
dialog, that you can use to show this big list if it happens to be hidden.
Once file extension is selected, fill in rtf in the accompanying text field. In
the same dialog, a list of matching files will then show up. Now you know which
rtf files you have on your system, on your desktop, or where ever you searched,
and you have them all visible in one window, without changing their location on
the disk.

Now if you are on a found rtf file, or whatever else you preferred to search
for, and you want to see where that very file actually lives on your drive, you
can bring up its context menu with VO shift m, and then select open containing
folder. The folder that the file is in, will now be displayed, with focus on
the file itself, and you can close it again with command w. However, one
painful thing for me was, how do you know the path to this containing folder
once you open it from the found file's context menu? Only the folder name, and
not the entire path, shows up in the title of the finder window. The solution
is simple. Via the view menu, simply turn on show path. If you do that, at the
bottom of the window you will find an interactable new path item. If you Vo
accross it, you will immediately know in which folder you are looking.

if you then quit this new smart folder window, you will be asked where to save
this new smart folder. By default you are saving in the saved searches folder,
but of course you can tick the disclosure box and select any save location you
want for easy access later.

Note: what is stored there, is not the list of files. Rather, it is your search
criteria, and where you search. This makes the smart folder dynamic, so that
the next time you open it, any newly added rtf or other files will also show
up. Smart, isn't it?

Hth,
Paul.

2011-09-17 Thread Garth Humphreys
Hi Eric

Thanks for the reminder to write to apple abut this. It was one of those
things that surprised me when I was looking into getting my Mac. The ability to
configure the caps lock as the screen readers modify key is in my opinion a
pretty dumb convention for Apple not to adopt.

Please don't misunderstand me to be saying that I want everything on the Mac
side to be done in the same way that it is on windows, this is certainly not
the case. But on this particular issue I think that Apple could learn from the
other vendors who have come before.

Eric, you must be a lot more polite then me. I wouldn't be bothered in
sugarcoating my request for a feature however I do think that you are
absolutely right to point out how the feature would assist you be more
productive.

Trackpad

2011-09-17 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys.
I have a question about the sensitivity of the trackpad. I have a Mac Book Pro
running under Lion. I thought I knew what I was doing, so I went under
Preferences and changed the sensitivity so that it was very sensitive. then I
decided that I had messed it up, so I changed it back while I was in the Apple
store using the recommendation of the tech there. I think it's at 60 percent or
something like that. I still don't think I have it right because when I have it
on, I keep doing things I don't want to when I reach for the keyboard.

What would you guys recommend I set it for? I thought I would like about the
sensitivity of the iPhone. I can use the roter onb the iPhone just fine, but I
have some trouble doing it on my Mac.
Thanks.

Regards,
Gigi

Re: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes

2011-09-17 Thread Keith Watson
Mike,

I try to keep my particular views of a particular company off lists. There are
many AT companies that I could voice an opinion of, but choose not to as this
is not the forum for that sort of conversation. That said, I have never had an
issue with having my ILM count reset, I have never had an issue with obtaining
any kind of support from Freedom Scientific at all. Every time I contact them
for support I have had no issues.

In any case, to continue the thread on the actual issue that I am having. I
have been in contact with VMWare support via email and much to my surprise, by
phone. I spent a couple of hours on the phone with one of their techs last
night and he was stumped. In the end he took a bunch of screen shots and is
going to escalate the issue up the line to development. He even downloaded a
copy of JAWS and is going to attempt to install it and see what happens. I must
say that I am very impressed with the level of service that I have obtained for
only a $49.99 purchase price.

Will keep ya'll updated on the progress. I suspect that it may have something
to do with the fact that the VM is 32-bit and Fusion 4 tools are 64 bit. I am
going to attempt to create a 64 bit Windows 7 VM today and see if that does not
make a difference. I really did not want to do that though because of the
minimum memory requirements needed. I have 4 gig and have 512 allocated to my
Linux VM and 512 allocated to my XP VM. This seems to give me the best overall
performance for the tasks that I perform on a daily basis.

Keith

 Mike,

Did your vm automatically try to install vmware tools even after saying no
to the upgrade vm option? No matter what I have done it always seems to
want to install. I have to cancel and can then use the vm, but it's
 annoying.

Where might one get the latest Chrome betas? Have hunted them but have yet to
find an url for them and on the chrome website itself you don't get any links.

ocmplete because autocompletion. Is there a way to make these things work
