fs: New, Aluminum Apple infra red remote - $20
Good morning all, I'm selling a new infra red remote. These remotes do not work with newer macs, including the mac pro which is what I've got. Macs early 2009 and before have infrared ports. The 2010 iMacs do. Mac pros do not. I'm asking $20 for the remote, and $5 shipping USPS priority, comes with 2 watch batteries. You can check to see if your mac has an infra-red receiver by going to system pref security general, and looking for an option to enable an infra-red remote. Using the TAB key in Mac Mail in Lion
Hi all, I have two computers running Lion, one is a MBA and other an IMac. On the MBA if I am in Mac mail and I press the TAB key it cycles through the list of messages, the preview pane and the list of mailboxes. On the IMac it only cycles through the list of messages and preview pane. It skips over the mailbox list. Both are running the classic layout. Hi, To send to individual people within Mail, while in the Mail app, do the following: • Press cmd-n to bring up a new message. • Enter the first few letters of either the recipient's first or last name. Mail should complete the address for you. If it does not,, enter a few more letters until it does. • Press return. • You can enter another recipient using the same method as above. You can simply start typing then press return to add the new recipient to the sending list. • When you've finished entering all the recipients you wish to send the message to, you can now press tab to move to the next field. • Enter the info you wish sent, proof it, and press cmd-shift-d to send it. Abby Fine Reader Question
Hi y'all. I first got the Abby Fine Reader Express trial version, then quickly upgraded to the full version. I had to go through the App store because I got lost trying to do it through the program. Now I must say that it does a pretty good job, even though I know we can't use every aspect of the program. However, it's a lot less trouble than setting up my Purl camera with my husband's Vista computer. Here's my question, and I know I must be doing something wrong. I don't know how useful the help file is for us--if you guys know what I mean. Once you have done a page, how do you add another to your file, or can you, in our case? If you downloaded the app, likely it's in your downloads, folder as a dog dmg, file. Locate it, and open it. Within the folder of the same name that is created, find the dot app, file. Hi. At one point in time you could turn off the trackpad by turning on mouse keys and telling the machine to ignore the trackpad while mouse keys were on. On both of the Mac Laptops I've owned, the ignoring option doesn't stick after a reboot. I haven't tried this yet in Lion however. HTH. Re: How do you add someone to your address book?
Hi, When you reply to a message from this list, by default, it would send the reply to the entire list membership. In order to send only to the specific sender of the message, do the following when in the message itself: • Navigate to the Message Header area. • Interact with it. • Navigate right through the header area past the sender's name then back left to the senders name. • Press VO-shift-m to bring up the Contextual menu. • Select Reply to Sender. The rationale behind moving right then back left is just a idiosyncrasy within VO navigation that the contextual menu won't come up properly if you're at the right end of the menu item. HTH Later... Hi, Don't use the menu items within the Message menu. When you open the given message, you will have the message content area and the message header area. Interact with the Message Header area enough times to be able to navigate right through the Message Header area. Re: a quick tip for you all
I'm still using Snow Leopard. I just reduced all the track pad speed sliders to 0, went through and unchecked all the shortcuts. I feel sorta bad doing this, as I rather liked the multitouch feature, but the hardware itself is malfing. I don't know if this will last past a reboot, or if reducing key repeat rate will affect performance; I see that holding down a key still causes repeats of it, just very slowly. :) • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: How do you put the name to a pages document in IOS
Hello Daniela, Here's how to rename a Pages document on an iPhone, I assume it works the same way with an iPad. Warning: you need a steady hand. You have to select Documents, then in the list of documents, the one you've just created will be called something like Blank, probably followed by a number. Place one finger on the one you wish to rename, toggle VoiceOver off, double-tap with that one finger, then toggle VoiceOver back on again. You'll be in an edit field which is the file name. Type the new name, then tap Done. Cheers, Anne On 15 Apr 2012, at 17:15, Daniela Rubio wrote: Hi all! Please, SOS. How do I put the name to a pages document in IOS version using an iPad ? here are the details required. http://perian.org/ download the dmg file. open it, you will find a file called perian.pref. run it. you will be asked for your admin password (if you have set one, input it, if not, just hit enter) you will be asked if you want to install it to all users or just you. for best results including making a recovery user, install to all users. you will be asked for your admin password again. after this, it's installed and system preferences updates itself with the icon installed at the bottom. this doesn't need any attention as it's auto configured and is system wide. lew On 15 Apr 2012, at 18:09, Mark BurningHawk Baxter wrote: Well, if you can send me the direct link, I'll download and install it and tell you how I did it, but I don't find anything under the spelling, Perian. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Disabling the preview pane in Lion mail
Hi Anne, Just as an added comment, in situations like this one, where I want to make sure that the mouse pointer doesn't move when I double click, and a physical click with trackpad or mouse is required, I use mouse keys instead to perform the click. After routing my mouse cursor to the VoiceOver cursor with VO-Command-F5, I quickly press the option key 5 times to turn on mouse keys, then I double tap the i key instead of performing a double click with mouse or trackpad, and turn mouse keys off again by quickly pressing the option key 5 times. As you know, this requires having the box in the System Preferences Universal Access Mouse Trackpad tab checked for Press the Option key five times to turn Mouse Keys on or off. This will work whether or not Trackpad Commander is turned off. Also, you can additionally check the option for Ignore built-in trackpad when Mouse Keys is on if you press (with VO-Space) the button for Trackpad Options… on the Mouse Trackpad tab of the Universal Access menu of System Preferences in Lion. This is for cases where people have difficulty with clicking the mouse or trackpad without moving the pointer, but it's useful in general to know. It's most useful when using applications which are transitioning in accessibility, where neither VO-Space or VO-Shift-Space will work to click on controls, and you need to perform physical clicks. Turning mouse keys on and clicking with the i key always works as an alternative in these instances. HTH. VO Shift F11 toggles screen curtain. VO and Wikipedia
Hi all, Is there a way to improve the way VoiceOver reads the information available on Wikipedia? Typically, I am referring to the start table with the general sum up. E.g.: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palm_Beach,_Florida The way VO announces the headers and contents is quite messed up. Any idea? Re: audio with Perrien
for those of whom who have not seen a post I created regarding digital media support for OS X and quicktime, I'd recommend reviewing it. Perian is a free plugin system to allow support for non standard media support in OS X. this includes suport for windows media files to integrate into products like quicktime, etc. if you're regularly accessing web enriched media, then products such as quicktime, perian and flip4mac should be used in conjunction with your browser of choice. lew On 15 Apr 2012, at 20:35, Ray Foret Jr wrote: Uh, what exactly is this and what is it supposed to be good for? HTH. Jumping to the top and bottom of the message list (Lion Mac mail in classic view)
Hi all, when in a message list in mail sometimes I want to jump to the top or bottom of the list. If I use FN VO Left Arrow it moves up by 25 rows. If I use FN VO Right Arrow it moves down by 25 rows. Is there a means of jumping through the entire list? For example if I have 65 items in a folder and at row 2 how can I jump to row 65? thanks Frank -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Disabling the preview pane in Lion mail
Hi Buddy and Jon, This was interesting. I just re-enabled and disabled the Preview pane in the new mail view for Lion by clicking on the vertical splitter, but I did it with mouse keys. I was using Mouse pointer ignores VoiceOver Cursor for my navigation tracking options under VoiceOver Utility, with the other 4 boxes checked for cursors to track each other (keyboard focus, insertion point, and VoiceOver cursor). In the new mail view mode in Lion, navigating horizontally (with VO-Right arrow or just right arrow in Quick Nav mode) starting from the Mailbox list, which I have set to be shown under the View options (toggle between show and hide with Command-Shift-M), I hear VoiceOver announce: Mailboxes, Vertical Splitter, Message Column, Vertical Splitter, then Message Content if the preview pane is not hidden. Once I'm navigate past the Message Column to the vertical splitter, I can move my mouse pointer to my VoiceOver cursor with VO-Command-F5. Then I can turn on mouse keys by pressing the option key 5 times (as I have this configured under System Preferences Universal Access Mouse Trackpad). If I double tap the i key I can hide the preview pane. This moves the vertical splitter to the far right, eliminating the Message Content. I can also reverse the instructions and navigate to the new position of the vertical splitter, route my mouse cursor to my VoiceOver cursor again with VO-Command-F5, and double tap the i key to show the preview pane again. I do have to remember to turn mouse keys off again by pressing the option key 5 times if I want to type with other letter keys. I haven't been able to use VO-Shift-Space for clicking on the vertical splitter. I can do show or hide the preview pane in the new mail view for Lion whether or not I'm in full screen mode. When I switch between the new view and classic mail view the preview pane is either present or gone consistently in both views. Buddy is correct that the it's the vertical splitter in the new mail view that works analogous to the horizontal splitter in classic mail view to show or hide the preview pane. HTH. Re: Jumping to the top and bottom of the message list (Lion Mac mail in classic view)
Hi Frank, If you're using a laptop keyboard or Apple Wireless keyboard you have to add Shift to those combinations, so it's VO-Fn-Shift-Left arrow to go to the top of the list and VO-Fn-Shift-Right arrow to move to bottom of the list. Without the shift keys you're moving to the top and bottom of the visible list. On a full-size keyboard, these sequences are VO-Shift-Home to move to the start of the list and VO-Shift-End to move to the end of the list, where Home is Fn+Left arrow and End is Fn+Right arrow on a laptop keyboard. Similarly, VO-Home and VO-End move you to the first and last visible elements of a list. The quick way to verify this is to turn on keyboard help with VO-k, then type these sequences to learn their functions, then press escape to exit keyboard help mode. I do miss the feature that worked up through Snow Leopard where you could simply press the Option key along with up (or down) arrow, and just wait a bit to be taken to the first or last item in the message list. Re: How do you add someone to your address book?
Hello everyone. Bret, thanks for sharing this with us. A word of caution though. After adding someone in this manner it's good to work the card into your organization scheme. This is what I mean. Get as much information as you need. If you use groups, and I highly recommend this, be sure you copy the new card to the correct groups so that you can efficiently use it in mailing lists, etc. Finally, when you no longer need the card you should delete it from your address book. I hope you have a nice day. On Apr 14, 2012, at 9:12 PM, Brett C. wrote: You can also add the sender of an email from Mail to your address book.
