I did vo-space on add to cart; I could have just bought but I wanted
to check everything for you. Then I found my shopping cart and did
vo-space on the checkout button and found myself at the paypal
options (you don't have to have a paypal account to do this). From
there you should be okay. I suspect that you just assumed you didn't
need to type a price in the field if you were going to pay the
default. If you still have problems, post again more specifically.
If you did this from your i-device instead of your Mac, I can
probably take a look at that approach for you too. Of course you had
a direct link so didn't have to do the searching steps.

Hope this helps.

I attempted to purchase a song or two of his, but though the

I have read their support materials, but unless I am missing

Could this be a VoiceOver issue, even though all buttons appear to

2014-08-28 Thread Christine Grassman

Thanks so much for checking this out for me. Yes, the problem was that I wasn't
writing the price in the edit box. I wrongly assumed that the default price
would be activated automatically. I also had trouble with the digital track
button not working reliably; it took several tries.
Thanks so much.

Dropbox adding folders to one computer...

With the new 1tb plan, I would like to add files from my second Mac Mini
drive to my dropbox. I have the Dropbox folder on my second drive. How can
I add a few folders from another internal drive to my Dropbox folder? Also,
this would make it too large to download on my other Mac, so how would I
tell that Mac not to download that folder? Thanks.

Re: keys won't work

2014-08-28 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Is it possible you've either turned on mouse-keys or locked voiceover? If set
up in system preferences, mousekeys is toggled by pressing the option key (I
don't think it matters which one) five times. Voiceover is locked so control
and option keys are automatically on and you just use voiceover without having
to hold down control and option by doing control-option-semicolon. Keyboard
commander just works with one option key (I think the right one is the default)
and only is activated when you press option with a key that is set to carry out
a command in keyboard commander so I don't think that is the cause of your
problem. Besides, if that was the cause of your problem, all you would have to
do is turn that off in voiceover preferences.

Ibooks?

2014-08-28 Thread May McDonald Homuth
Hey there.

I was wondering if anyone has found an easy way to get around Ibooks on the mac
yet?

Sadly now I'm definitely stuck having to use it since it's the only place I can
find that has books I need for class. *sighs*

Re: accessible audio editor

2014-08-28 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Okay. Now, let's start with the fact that in Amadeus Pro, you have two cursers
to control. One of them is the actual insertion point, and the other is the
playback curser. At first, this threw me also. So, here's a quick lesson in
how to deal with putting markers in to a file between two places so you can
start to work with it.

1. Navigate using the arrow keys' to the first spot you want to drop a marker.

2. Now, Press command+y. This action will rout the insertion point to the
playback curser. This is always necessary for taking actions at certain points
in a file.

3. Now, the fastest way to drop a marker is just to press the p key.

4. Now, navigate to the point at which the next marker should be dropped.
Take actions 2 and 3 above and you can now sart editing. Here's a quick tip.
To move between markers, use command+right to move to the next marker and
comand+left to move to the previous marker. IF, for example, you want to cut
something out of a file and you've set your markers according to the
instructions I gave above, fastest way to do this is as follows.

1. Move to the first marker.

2. Now, press option right to select to the next marker. Now, press delete.

HTH.

PDF Pen Pro

2014-08-28 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi guys
I just discovered something about PDF Pen Pro, and I wanted to tell you guys
about this because we want to test this to see what improvements need making so
we can let the good folks there know about it. I just discovered that if you
get an inaccessible form that does nothing when you press the tab key, because
the author of the PDF file didn't bother to consider us, there is an option in
PDF Pen Pro to find the form fields. It goes through the file and makes the
things accessible. I just did one, and the person I sent it to said it worked.
I am not sure I got everything, and that's what wee want to test.

The version, which I got from the App store yesterday, is 6.3.2. I had to go to
the App store because I got it from there in the first place, so it didn't work
for me to update within the program.

Regards,
Gigi

I'm surprised you didn't get in trouble with your cell provider.
Not sure if this will work, however if it was me, I assume you have everything

the thing completely, start over. You better hope that so called friend didn't

Apple set to unveil new iPhones and wearable device on September 9th

2014-08-28 Thread Christopher Hallsworth

Apple set to unveil new iPhones and wearable device on September 9th
by MacDailyNews
[cfsp key=adsense_336x280]Apple Inc. is holding a Sept. 9 event,
where the company is said to be preparing to debut new iPhones and a
wearable device, Adam Satariano reports for Bloomberg. The unveiling
will be held at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts near Apple's
headquarters in Cupertino, California.
Apple is set to introduce two new iPhone models: one with a 4.7-inch
screen, and another with a 5.5-inch display, as well as a new wearable
device, which would be the company's first new product category since
the iPad debuted in 2010, according to people familiar with the plans,
Satariano reports. The Flint Center, which seats 2,300, has been used
before for major Apple events, such as co-founder Steve Jobs's
introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Jobs also unveiled the iMac at
the theater in 1998. The venue also hosted an event earlier this year
celebrating the Mac's 30th anniversary.
Last year's iPhone 5s and 5c also debuted on the second Tuesday of
September, Satariano reports. Anticipation for this event has given
Apple's shares a boost. Already the world's largest company by market
value, Apple shares reached an intraday record today of $102.78, and are
up 28 percent this year.

means of an installer package. This will be a pkg file. Usually, such a

Most people switching from Windows to OS X seem to want to bring Windows

I'll be honest, my fear of uninstalling incompletely or incorrectly comes

While I'm certain this is not the case in OSX, some fears are difficult to

Hello,

What is static text in the web rotor and how is it helpful. Ins Safari it seems
to take me to random things. Is it just taking me to anywhere that there are

Thanks,

A Question About VoiceOver Activities

2014-08-28 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I would like to setup a VoiceOver Activity. My question:

Is there a way to setup a voice specific activity for Notification Alerts
and/or the Notification Center/area?

I would like my Notifications Alerts to use Samantha instead of Alex, for
example.

If so, I cannot find it.

All replies greatly appreciated.

I always appreciate devices and operating systems that offer good command line

Re: recording Skype calls

2014-08-28 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
First you want to go into iTunes and set your preferences for importing.
Command-comma to bring up preferences and then go to General. Towards
the end of the list of settings will be a section called When a CD is
Inserted which is followed by a popup button and then a button called
Import Settings. Action that which will popup another dialog with a
popup button to choose the encoder. Set this to MP3 Encoder if it isn't
already. You can then VO-down to choose your settings such as Higher
Quality 192 kbps) and such. You can also choose custom and play around
in there. Anyway, once your encoding settings are chosen action the OK
to get back to preferences and then OK on that to get back to itunes.
Now you can import your source file with command-O. Once it's in iTunes,
select that track and choose File Create New Version Create MP3
Version. This will convert what you have selected to mp3 using the
settings you made in Preferences. After that you can choose to delete
the original file from iTunes.

Hope this helps.

I found that if I skip this step and used mp3 converter directly on the .mov

this is. I would rather not have to use two steps, but it works for me and

I got mp3 converter from the app store, but there are many other apps like it

I convert this to mp3 and then compress it some.
The mov file plays fine in quick look (press space on the file to open).
Definitely money well spent for me. I know people will say they use audio
highjack pro, but I can't get my head around that programme I'm afraid. This

I find using headphones ensures my voice is recorded better than if I use the

Good luck.

Re: Ibooks?

2014-08-28 Thread Barry Hadder
Hi May,

There are two things about the chapter navigation in iBooks for Mavericks I
have found that I will explain incase you aren't aware of them.
First, ibooks considers all subsections in a chapter as chapters. So, even if
you press command-shift-left or right it will seem to you not to be doing
anything even though the content being displayed is changing. You can
determine what is actually being displayed by routing the mouse to the scroll
area and reading the content with vo-command-f5.
Second, The next and prior chapter keys will not work for some reason if the
keyboard focus is in the scroll area or an html content area. The solution is
just to get the keyboard focus onto one of the buttons and away from the html
content.
Hope this helps.

.

[cfsp key=adsense_336x280]Apple Inc. is holding a Sept. 9 event, where the
company is said to be preparing to debut new iPhones and a wearable device,
Adam Satariano reports for Bloomberg. The unveiling will be held at the
Flint Center for the Performing Arts near Apple's headquarters in Cupertino,
 California.
Apple is set to introduce two new iPhone models: one with a 4.7-inch screen,
and another with a 5.5-inch display, as well as a new wearable device, which
would be the company's first new product category since the iPad debuted in
2010, according to people familiar with the plans, Satariano reports. The
Flint Center, which seats 2,300, has been used before for major Apple events,
such as co-founder Steve Jobs's introduction of the Macintosh in 1984. Jobs
also unveiled the iMac at the theater in 1998. The venue also hosted an event
earlier this year celebrating the Mac's 30th anniversary.
Last year's iPhone 5s and 5c also debuted on the second Tuesday of
September, Satariano reports. Anticipation for this event has given Apple's
shares a boost. Already the world's largest company by market value, Apple
shares reached an intraday record today of $102.78, and are up 28 percent
 this year.

Setting Up Selective Sync with Dropbox for Mac

2014-08-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
I can access Dropbox's selective sync preferences, but can't seem to adjust
them. It says that only checked folders will sync to this computer, but I can't
seem to uncheck any folders. There's no checkboxes. I've tried pressing
VO-Space, clicking with the TrackPad, simulating a click with VO-Shift-space,
control-clicking, just pressing space bar, but nothing has worked.

Can anyone help or is this just not do-able with VoiceOver?

Re: PDF Pen Pro

2014-08-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Gigi,

I've tried doing this before. PDFPen Pro did a pretty good job inserting the
form fields, but someone with vision told me that some of the fields to type
the answers were in the wrong spots/not aligned properly. They were able to
click and drag and stuff to fix it up a bit, but this would not be possible as
a VoiceOver user. The other problem is that all the form fields were
unlabelled, so I sometimes couldn't tell what answer I should be writing in
which field.

If I haven't properly understood what your'e asking please let me know.

you get an inaccessible form that does nothing when you press the tab key,
because the author of the PDF file didn't bother to consider us, there is an
option in PDF Pen Pro to find the form fields. It goes through the file and
makes the things accessible. I just did one, and the person I sent it to said
it worked. I am not sure I got everything, and that's what wee want to test.

The version, which I got from the App store yesterday, is 6.3.2. I had to go
to the App store because I got it from there in the first place, so it didn't
work for me to update within the program.

Re: Moving Columns in Numbers

2014-08-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Phil,
It actually makes sense when you think about it. Say you have a cell in table
2, say cell A1, which references a column in another table, say column 1 of
table 1. Now whether or not our cell A1 of table 2 uses absolute or relative
references, if you were to copy column 1 of table one, paste it in, say, column
3 of table 1 and then delete the original column 1 of table 1, our cell A1 of
table 2 would now be pointing at the wrong data, because its still pointing at
column 1 of table 1. On the other hand, if we were to have dragged column 1 of
table one into some other position (e.g. column 3 position) using the drag and
drop method, Numbers is smart enough to work out what's happening and update
your formula in cell A1 of table 2 to point to the new position, so now cell A1
of table 2 would reference column 3 of table 1. So it's really something
different altogether to absolute and relative references. Put another way,
absolute and relative references are relevant when the cell containing the
formula is being moved, but not when the formula cell is staying put and the
data cells are being moved.

On 9 Aug 2014, at 11:09 pm, Phil Halton philh...@gmail.com wrote:

how about that! That's strange and makes very little sense to me. It kind of
undercuts the whole concept of relative and absolute addressing, and implies
that numbers is correcting for the addressing depending on the method of
 moving involved.
Oh well, good to know, thanks.

On Aug 9, 2014, at 1:35 AM, Nicholas Parsons mr.nicholas.pars...@gmail.com
 wrote:

 Hi Phil,

With respect, I think you're wrong. I experimented by creating the same
formula referencing the same data table, with one version using relative
references and a second version using absolute references. When I moved one
of the data columns with the mouse method, both formulas continued to
display the same and correct results. However, when I copied and pasted the
data column to the new location both formulas displayed formula errors.

Maybe this depends on the types of formulas you're using. Why don't you
experiment and see. I'd be interested in hearing your results. The more I
know about Numbers the better for me.

On 8 Aug 2014, at 11:14 pm, Phil Halton philh...@gmail.com wrote:

Regardless of the method you used to move a column, the formulas contained
there in will be affected. The addressing method holds whether you copy and
paste the formula or whether you drag-and-drop it, or whether you use some
other method. Regardless of how you move it, if there is relative or
absolute addressing conflicts, the formula will be negatively affected.

Re: Moving Columns in Numbers

2014-08-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Bary,
Agree completely. There's often so many variables and things that can go wrong
that it's very difficult to explain how to do things via email. However, just
knowing that you're not wasting time by trying is often valuable enough, and
then if you're persistent enough and are told how it should work that's usually
enough to get there in the end. So thanks once again! It now seems to be

or all of them may have been necessary:
 moving the position of the table in the arrange tab of the format inspector;
 showing the table name
 exiting full screen;
 moving the window to the front and hiding all others;
moving other columns to the right of the target column rather than the target
 column to the left of the other columns;
 trying multiple times.

Some tabs are the letter indexes and some are the headings. I don't think
that matters though. It's just a miner bug that doesn't seem to affect
anything. The mouse should read what the voiceover cursor reads in the
 reference tabs.
I don't think that the mouse is moving to the tabs for whatever reason.
That is the problem. Something about the way the window is positioned or
the way things are laid out in the layout area is causing the mouse to get
stuck. You can turn on speak text under the mouse in vo utility and move the
mouse around. That might give you an idea of where it is.
Try using one of the templates to see if you still have this problem. I'm
using the grade book for this. Also, try moving the window over to the
right just to see if anything changes. You can do this by pressing vo-` and
right arrow. Press escape when your finished. Note that this is a long
shot, but it's this or one of the things I've mentioned that is causing this.
 Good luck.

Re: Pages and bookmarks?

2014-08-28 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Not that I'm aware of, though I wish there were.

 Hi all.
Is there way to put and recall a bookmark while reading a long text with

 Thanks, Gabriel.
