RE: Headphone bug still exists on the I phone.

2016-01-28 Thread Simon Fogarty
HiScott,

Not really a problem I'm just looking to update my headset to one that is going
to give me better functionality.

I currently have a Bose BT headset that has no accessibility features such as
voice notifications / prompting at least the current firmware doesn't give tat.

And I've been looking at the legend for sometime but couldn't figure out if I
wanted to go with the odel with UC or the legend basic model.

Simon, what kind of headset are you having a problem with?

I’ve found the Jawbone to be very unstable for example compared to the Voyager
Legend. I could maybe help more though if you provide the brand and model of
the headset you have issues with.

Usually, outsourcing development is a mistake, they are probably doing it
because it's cheaper, but you have far less control over the quality of what is
developed and cannot monitor it as closely. I think doing this is a huge
mistake on Vmware's part. I no longer have any use for windows and therefore do
not use fusion, but it will be interesting to watch what happens. I'm glad the

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Your mono tracks might render as stereo if you start adding effects like
a stereo reverb or the like. The "dry" source would start as a mono
track though. Hope it works out for you. Another trick some folks use is
a "click" track which is used to keep the beat between the different
tracks. So you could, for example, record a guitar first with the click
track keeping you on tempo. Then when you go back to add vocals or other
parts you keep the same click track so it all meshes together well.
Other folks like to lay down some drums first to do the same things. Of
course if you record both your vocals and are guitar live at the same
time they should be together :)

Hello.
So we have two types of tracks. A mono track and a stereo track.
What distinguishes a mono from a stereo track is how many channels is using.
When stereo you use 2 channels. So if you have an audio interface connected you
will be using channels 1 and 2 to record in stereo.
On the other hand, if you are recording in mono, using a mic for example, you
will only be using 1 channel for this. So even if you are recording music with
your mic it will be mono because you are only using one channel.

it's still available, right?

Many thanks.

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
I have used a stereo track when recording a piano with two mics. Just
seems to sound better that way. Of course which mics to use and where to
place them is a black art left as fodder for many an audio nerd war.
Even if you were doing a vocal and acoustic guitar recording it wouldn't
be stereo, it would be two mono tracks, one for guitar and one for
vocals, even though you might be using a "stereo" audio interface. Short
of large instruments and groups I've put most things on mono tracks for
each source so you can then tweak them individually.

However as I said, the microphone is a mono source.
So you have your voice on one mono track, your music on another stereo track

Since you are recording a mic source, you need to set this to mono.

Hi all,

OK, so I've finally gotten the mic and interface to work. I have a couple of

1. At this point, my recordings are only coming out of the right channel. How
do I fix this so they record in stereo? In Prefs, it is already set to Stereo.

2. Do I have to go into System Prefs, change the Input and output settings
every time I want to record, and then go back in and change them back when I'm
done? It seems like there should be an easier way to default to the MBA's

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread 'Chris Blouch' via MacVisionaries
Well, depending on how the tool works there is usually a "Pan" setting.
On a mono track it defaults to the middle (equal left and right) but on
a stereo track it defaults to the left being panned full left and the
right is panned full right. So if you can find where the pan setting is
on the right track you might be able to just move it back to middle and
everything will be good.

Hi all,

OK, so I've finally gotten the mic and interface to work. I have a couple of

1. At this point, my recordings are only coming out of the right channel. How
do I fix this so they record in stereo? In Prefs, it is already set to Stereo.

2. Do I have to go into System Prefs, change the Input and output settings
every time I want to record, and then go back in and change them back when I'm
done? It seems like there should be an easier way to default to the MBA's
internal speakers.

I haven't played with it a whole lot but the free VirtualBox supposedly

You might try pressing vo-shift-m on the status menu item, if that opens the

2016-01-28 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi everyone, Fusion isn't going away. Its development is being out-sourced. So
we'll have new versions of Fusion in future. The question is, how accessible
will they be.
I've been tweeting a lot about this, and last night, I received an email from
one of the now former Fusion developers, thanking me for acknowledging their
commitment to accessibility. This particular developer was responsible for
ensuring accessibility, and took great pride in testing and trying hard to
maintain a high level of accessibility in new versions.
whether that will now be a thing of the past remains to be seen.

2016-01-28 Thread Scott Granados
Hi, it works directly with the bluetooth in your Cisco phone on your desk. You
should be able to configure it with a web browser to your IP and or change the
provisioning template on the server. As far as the amplifier, not sure on that
one but I do know it will pair with a Cisco phone.

Re: Copy and paste from iBooks

2016-01-28 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Paul,

I’ve just done a bit of experimenting using a DRM-protected book. Although
Shift plus Arrow Keys selects text, Cmd-c doesn’t copy it to the clipboard.
However, You can make VO read a paragraph with VO-p then use the VO command
VO-Shift-c to copy the last spoken phrase to the clipboard and it works.
The largest chunk of text I could do this with was a paragraph. The Next Page
command doesn’t seem to work in iBooks. This is on my Mac running the latest El
Capitan.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: How to remove a program from the status menu

2016-01-28 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If it is the Status menu item that is causing the issue, you are supposed to be
able to drag these out of the status menu. I am not sure if that stops the
program running, or just removes the icon. Are there no instructions online
about removing this program?
Best wishes,

Jonathan

Re: How to remove a program from the status menu

2016-01-28 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi Walter,

Go to system preferences, and interact with the preference pain with
vo+shift+down arrow. Vo+arrow to users and groups button and vo+spacebar on it
to open it. You will hear voiceover announce: "Users, groups and login options
List 1 item selected. Simon Cavendish, current user group"

Now, if you move with vo+right arrow, you will hear two tabs announced. The
second tab will say "login options" You want to press vo+spacebar on it to
highlight it. then if you move to the right, you will see a table with all the
apps that startup at login. Interact with the table of applications with
vo+shift+down arrow. Each application that starts at login has a check box
next to it, check the one you wish to remo. Then stop interacting with the
table with vo+shift+up arrow and move to the right to the button that says
remove. Press vo+spacebar on it to remove it from the log in.

Hope this will help.

Does this mean that my Cisco phone on my desk could support bluetooth or does
it also connect to a Plantronics amplifier? Currently I use a Plantronics amp

Windows and Linux and VM's

After 6 months of not having a personal Macintosh to work on, I picked up a new

that I might be able to do some work on a other OS’s on a machine that I own. I

JAWS and be able to reset my environment with ease.

Has anybody used either non VM Ware VM software under El Capetain with success?

I also might want to play with a

If I got a copy of Windows 7 (or 8), installed it on a VM, cloned the VM and
then upgraded the clone to Windows 10 would the older OS VM stop working or be
considered a illegal license?

Note, I am at ease with using the terminal application in MacOS or as it now
seems to be called AOS.

Re: braille display commands for the mac

2016-01-28 Thread Caitlyn Furness
Hi,
this will depend on which display you are using as far as commands go.

To see a list, go to vo utility with vo f8. go down to braille. then I think
it’s under the layout tab, and it’s called key commands or something like that.
It brings up a table of the commands for your particular display.

Additionally, if you go to the apple site, you can find generic commands for
using braille on the mac there-just do a search for braille.

hth,
Caitlyn

Hello,
Is it possible to use VoiceOver to copy a page or so of text from an iPub book
in iBooks and then paste it into an Email as a discussion point? this is on Mac
OS El Capitan? If not can this be done on IOS 9.2? I have googled copy and
paste from iBooks and found answers on how to do this using vision and a mouse,
but this does not help a VoiceOver user.

Many thanks.

Hi, Nektarios,

Thanks for the help and for sending your Skype contact. My interface does have
two channels, I had the mic on channel 1. I had an idea about what the problem
may be, but I probably can't get back to messing with this till the weekend.
Let me play around a bit more, and if I have no luck, I'll Skype you.

Again, thanks for everything!

Hello Brian,

With your Braille display connected to your Mac, open the VoiceOver utility
(VO-F8_ and go down to Braille. Select Braille Displays. You should find a
table showing all the commands provided for your particular display. You’ll
also see that you can assign your own commands.

Re: VMware fires US dev team behind Workstation and Fusion

Unfortunately flash is not acccessible on the mac. This site needs to
upgrade to html 5.

Original message:
I still have a virtual machine running Windows 7 on my MacBook air, but
I only use it for those rare occasions when I need access to a flash
player-based website. It's really bad when you can't play flash content
on a mac system. I've run google chrome and Safari, but they can't even
see the flash player on a certain website that I really need. So, I
resurrected my Windows 7 installation and it works like a charm with

This is really sad news. But of course, I understand it, on a
practical, realistic level: desktop virtualisation is now something of
a fringe market, there are free products available and those that
compete economically and favourably for consumers, and even on the
server virtualisation is readily available and incorporated as parts of
technology stacks. And if VMWare’s products are profitable, it’s only
because they’re already asking too much. So who’s going to be too
bothered, apart from the awesome people behind the technologies, and a
bunch of geeks? Oh yeah, and blind Mac users unable to use any of the
alternatives?

We shall have to see what happens.

2016-01-28 Thread BBS
Hi Adrian. Does this app use a web interface or does it just pull up a simple
contact list? I'm looking for an app that just has the contact list. Let us
know.

What kind of interface did you get?
Your interface should have at least 2 channels.
Which channel is your mic connected on?

Sorry, I don't mean to be dense, but this still doesn't make sense. I
understand the difference between stereo and mono. I have the interface

on the interface without a mic, so I'm having trouble seeing the distinction

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread Nektarios Mallas

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hi Donna.
Since you are recording a mic source, you need to set this to mono.
You set this to stereo only if you are recording music or other stereo source
such as piano or other type of music.

Re: Amadeus question

Ok understand that.
However as I said, the microphone is a mono source.
So you have your voice on one mono track, your music on another stereo track
etc. Then you want to mix those tracks together for the end result.

Simon, the Legend in fact does support multipoint like the Edge up to 8 devices
at a time can be paired. The audio is only heard from one device at a time
though to be complete. (this is a limitation on all bluetooth headsets as far
as I know not just the plantronics)

The UC means unified communications. This means it’s compatible with some of
the Cisco devices for folks working in call centers and the like. Plantronics
does a lot in the office call audio space as well so this headset is designed
to work both as your cellular headset and the headset for the phone on your
desk.

Hope that helps.

Is the legend a current device? What I like about my old Voyager is that

I’ve found the Jawbone to be very unstable for example compared to the Voyager
Legend. I could maybe help more though if you provide the brand and model of

This really is to bad. I run fusion and a lot of VMs that aren’t windows. I
run the virtual Juniper routers and firewalls for example to build test
topologies and also some of the unix variants. I think I also heard though
that this will be wrapped up in to Dell so it will be interesting to see how
this shakes out.

Re: Amadeus question

2016-01-28 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Question. Are you using the latest version? In that version, this should not
be happening. In older versions, if you pressed the up or down arrow key by
itself, you could thereby directly control which stereo channel you were
working with. Every time you opened a new project, you defaulted to working
with both channels. Try this.

1. Open a new project. Press CMD+r to record. Now, look close to the right
side edge. There's a button called "play through". As it's name implies, this
will allow you to activally monitor exactly what it is you are recording.
Press this button. Better have headphones on before you do this. IF your
signal is as you describe, you can then doctor it on the spot until it's
correct.

I'd examine all my plugs and make sure everything is firmly and correctly
connected to your system.

HTH.
