No automatic updates was on,

But I thought you still had to say yes to the update starting.

Hell I could have done it and fallen asleep 2 seconds later.

Hi Lists,

At what point on the 24th is the release of iPadOS 13.1 and I thought the IOS
13.1 update to be released?

I know there is a number of time zones in the USA but all of them now should be
in the 24th September
Has anyone seen these production releases as yet?

Hi Simon,
Nope, nothing I tried worked. Not sure why I always have so much trouble with
the native books app on the iPhone. I know all of the navigation gestures like
the two finger swipe and they all work fine when I’m reading emails, texts and
Safari or any other application where one is reading text. But the books app
has always been problematic.

Hi petrus,

There is a lets say tab for book marking the page your on,

The page or book is in the next tab to the right if you swipe right.

It should be headed at the title as what is new in ios 13.

If you use your Table of contents to find the page wanting, and select that,

Then go back to the t ab with the document in it and so long as it is on the
correct page you should be able to swipe 2 fingers down the screen to get
voiceover reading the book out from that point and it should keep continuously
read it.

Hi,
This is going to sound silly as I must be doing something wrong. I like to
think of myself as pretty good as far as using IOS and voice over on the
iPhone. But I’ve always had trouble reading text based books in the books App.
I downloaded the iPhone user guide for IOS 13 and found the paragraph regarding
accessibility and jumped to page 800 and something, but I can only get
voiceover to read the first page of that section. How do I get it to read the
entire paragraph? I’m still on IOS 12.4.1 as I’ll update tonight when my wife
is home. I always like to have some working eyes around before I start the
update, not that I’ve ever had any problems with updates before. So I might get
better luck reading the user guide after I update.

I know a couple of folks have done text based resources, and Anna, who is one

Okay, I had the reading now tab selected and the first book in the list was the
IOS 13 one. I swiped across until I found the button labeled “more Actions” and
double tapped on that. There was a share option in there and I swiped past the
options to use air drop or email, or text and so on and found a button that
said; save to voice dream reader or something like that.
Hope this worked for you as well.

Re: Text based resource for iOS 13 from a blindness perspective

2019-09-24 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi Simon,
Nope, nothing I tried worked. Not sure why I always have so much trouble with
the native books app on the iPhone. I know all of the navigation gestures like
the two finger swipe and they all work fine when I’m reading emails, texts and
Safari or any other application where one is reading text. But the books app
has always been problematic.

I would like to know how you saved the book invoice dream as well. I tried
doing that myself and couldn’t figure it out. Please let us know.

I have had decent luck with the Books app on my phone, although I don’t use it
much, since these days, kindle books tend to be cheaper. But I do want to know

Thanks I’ll try that next. I did look in the phone settings and found the
books app. I opened that and under the reading heading it had a button labeled
“full justification” and it was off. Should this be on?Auto hyphenation was on,
and “both margins advance” was off. Do I need to change any of these settings?

Very much like quicknav in JAWS / NVDA. H for headers G for graphics, f for
text input fields, j for controls.

Best wishes,

RE: Text based resource for iOS 13 from a blindness perspective

2019-09-24 Thread Simon A Fogarty

These books are automatically updated as the iOS is updated. It is in the

I know a couple of folks have done text based resources, and Anna, who is one

Hi,

Just seen this post on another group posted for those of us who do

the crucial bit below.

"With iOS 13 coming out and lots of us not wanting to download it
because of the multiple voiceover bugs, may I take this opportunity
to warn you of apples rather sneaky way of overriding your settings
to install updates when you don't want them.

If you go into settings, general, software update, you'll find a
button to turn off automatic software updates. Go ahead and switch
that to off, but be aware that it may not stop the update from being
installed. There's another step you will probably need to take.
You may find a dialogue popping up sometime in the next few days
asking if you want to install iOS 13. The two options you'll be
given are "install now" or "later". You'll assume you need to choose
"later", since you don't want the update at all, and then you'll be
asked to enter your passcode. At this point, the phone is ready to
install the update, despite the fact that you have auto update set
to off, and it will do it sometime in the couple of days after
you've seen the dialogue come up.
So, when the dialog has appeared and you've chosen the later option,
go back into settings, general, software update and you'll see
another button has appeared, called "Cancel auto install" or
something like that. You need to double tap that button to stop the
phone doing the update automatically. And all of this happens even
though you've got your auto update set to off. Apple sure are keen
to get us updating.*”*

Using voice control to enter a passcode

2019-09-24 Thread Mary Otten
I understand that voice control does not have the blind and visually impaired
as its primary audience. However, a friend of mine has upgraded his phone and
was playing around with voice control and rather likes it. This raised the
question of whether it is possible to enter a passcode to open your phone using
voice control. He was trying to enter it using his finger to type the numbers,
and voiceover said that it was the wrong passcode. That was because other
numbers then when he was typing were being entered because he had voice control
on. He has a six digit passcode. But he was getting notices that after four
numbers, he had the wrong passcode entered. So, I wonder if it is possible to
simply dictate the passcode if you have a voice control on. He did try it by
simply saying his passcode numbers one after the other, but that apparently
didn’t do anything. So he turned voice control off, and was able to enter his
code. Still, if you were in the right environment where you did not care if
anyone overheard you, saying the numbers would be cool. Plus, I would think
this would be a really good thing for the primary audience for whom voice
control is intended, that is, people who can’t really use the touchscreen well.
Wouldn’t you want a way to be able to enter your voice code using voice control?
Mary

can read it now.
However I should feed the cat first before she beats me up as it is a bit hard
to read while getting scratched.

Re: Text based resource for iOS 13 from a blindness perspective

2019-09-24 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Well that wasn’t very successful either. I did the three finger swipe from
right to left and it just carried on reading the same text that I know of by
heart now as I’ve heard it so many times already. It made the correct noise for
turning the page but it didn’t really work. I’m about to give up and delete
that user guide from my phone and go back to my usual way of learning the IOS,
trial and error.

Thanks I’ll try that next. I did look in the phone settings and found the
books app. I opened that and under the reading heading it had a button labeled
“full justification” and it was off. Should this be on?Auto hyphenation was on,
and “both margins advance” was off. Do I need to change any of these settings?

Hi,

When focus is on the textual area, do a three-finger swipe from right to left
like you were turning a page in a book. This will take you to the next page,
and it will start reading that next page. Not a continuous thing, but at least
should get you further along than you've been getting.

Yes, that is what I’m doing and it is only reading the first page of that
section and not reading any more. The books app is the only place I’ve ever had
this problem.

Hi,

Once you're in the section where the actual text is, swipe down with two

I just requested a download of the new version. The phone says it will take two
hours to download. So, probably worth waiting.

VMWareFusion and USB issues.

2019-09-24 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I remember issues with the early Mohave came out where a terminal command was
used to reset all permissions in the database for either all applications or a
specific application. Perhaps we need to do this for 11.5 also?

The command is
tccutil reset

followed by either an application name or “all”.
Can someone who is struggling with VMWare 11.5 give this a try and report back?

Re: Turning Off Quick Nav in Safari Form Fields

2019-09-24 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Actually, in text fields if you interact with them, Quick Nav will turn off and
then turn back on when you stop interacting.

Give it a try!

Re: VMWareFusion now ready for 10.15

2019-09-24 Thread maurice.mines

Hello so I try to install this and it’s not even running.

What I did is downloaded the installer to the applications folder. Then
I deleted the downloaded desk image from my drive. Should I have done
this? Or should I read download this disk image copy the executable but
leave the disk image on my drive so that I can run the install? Any
thoughts?

Subject: Text based resource for iOS 13 from a blindness perspective

I am one of those folks who vastly prefers text based resources for learning
rather than Podcasts. I find that much more efficient, especially when it comes
to needing to refer to something that you’ve already read and forgotten. So, I
am wondering if there is going to be a text based resource this year for iOS
13. Jonathan Mosen used to do an excellent one, but he’s not doing it anymore.

I know a couple of folks have done text based resources, and Anna, who is one
of them, is on at least some of the list where I’m sending this message. The
thing I liked about Jonathan‘s book was that it came out when you needed it,
simultaneously with the upgrade. So I’m wondering if anybody knows whether
Anna‘s book or perhaps Shelly’s book are going to be released in the near
future. Hoping for something besides podcasts, please!
Mary

2019-09-24 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
Oh Dear is this still an issue?
I installed Vmware Fusion 11.1 a month ago and had a hell to get things up and
running.
I can’t remember how i did that but it worked until the evaluation period went
out.
Have you searched through all the vmware knowledgebase?

No I did not connect anything until Windows was running. But even if they

Re: Turning Off Quick Nav in Safari Form Fields

2019-09-24 Thread John Panarese
OK. So single key navigation is part of Quick Nav. It can be adjusted
independently.Quick Nav works specifically with the arrow keys and, with that
Sid, rotor settings will effect the way the arrow keys work overall.

Single key navigation is where you can use, for example, the letter h, to
navigate by headings, or, l, to navigate by links, on a webpage. What happens,
though, is with single key navigation on, if you try to type in an edit field,
it treats your key presses like single key commands. Thus, if you toggle it
off, you will still have Quick Nav active, but the single key navigation will
not work in those instances.

   I hope that helps.

Re: Turning Off Quick Nav in Safari Form Fields

2019-09-24 Thread Sandra Finley
John, ? I am Not sure how "single key navigation" relates to the issue at

iPad OS 13.1 release

2019-09-24 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Lists,

At what point on the 24th is the release of iPadOS 13.1 and I thought the IOS
13.1 update to be released?

I know there is a number of time zones in the USA but all of them now should be
in the 24th September
Has anyone seen these production releases as yet?
