Re: Accessibility of Ring Video Doorbell V2

2023-07-16 Thread Yolanda Thompson
So, ring keeps causing MAC users frustration because they say they
will not support MAC, then I think the last thing is the ring info can
be accessed via Safari.
However, on the iPhones it works well. Had to address some
inaccessibility in setup and so forth; however, last I heard they had
fixed this.

Re: a difficult website

2023-03-16 Thread Yolanda Thompson
So, if I visit this site using Windows, I find the element is a combo
box. In my experience safari does not do combo boxes. I would love for
someone to tell me I am incorrrect and tell me how to do combo boxes
using the Mac. However, if you expand the combo box for the day you
are seeking on this website, the programs for that day show once the
day is expanded.

Re: Unlocking phone with Apple Watch?

2021-04-27 Thread Yolanda Thompson
So, once you have it setup in settings face id unlock with watch,
Cover your nose and mouth with your hand, then lift the phone. The
watch will vibrate, and state: "unlocked with watch" or something
close to that. I have done it, yes.

Re: Orbit Writer And Apple Watch

2020-12-20 Thread Yolanda Thompson
Yes you can. Set your Orbit up to BT through your settings menu in
mode. Then Go to your settings accessibility vision and tap Braille
the Orbit will show up. Tap on Orbit, and it will pair. Make sure you
are running Watch OS Version 7.2.

Hi Dolories.

Same author for sure, but my book is titled "Janet Ingber - Everything
You Need to Know to Use the Mac". It's a great book, but
nevertheless, I'll check out your book title also.

All the best with your learning.

Andy.

Very best wishes and kind regards

  Hello Andy,

I just purchased a book by Janet Ingber from the National Braille
Press. it is called Mac Basics for the Beginning User. I really like
it. I bought the braille copy so I can read it while trying things
on the computer. I’ve learned a lot from this book. It will be a
great reference tool for me. I don’’t know if we are talking about
the same book or not.

Hi all.

In the past I've purchased 2 great books. They may have been from
either, the National Braille Press or American Printhouse for the
Blind. I can no longer rember.

The first book concerned my Iphone and was titled:
Getting Started with the iPhoneGetting Started with the iPhone
An Introduction for Blind Users
By Anna Dresner and Dean Martineau.

This was a great book and helped me a lot, back when I was using
my Iphone 4s.

I've since upgraded to the Iphone 6s and was wondering if there
was a more recent title by these two authours which would be more
appropriate for the Iphone 6s and subsequent upgrades to the operating
system, since then.

My second book, which I'm studying at the moment is also a
fantastic book. It concerns My Imac and my Macbook pro and is titled:

Janet Ingber - Everything You Need to Know to Use the Mac

I'm loving this book so much that I hunger for more from this
particular author.

If anyone knows a link where I can purchase such titles, as txt
documents, I'd be delighted to know.

Thanks.

Very best wishes.
Andy.

Decreasing the verbosity of VO during Zoom Meetings

2020-07-08 Thread Yolanda Thompson
We have a student using zoom on the mac to attend a lot of different
online conferences. He stays muted unless he wants to speak then he
holds down the spacebar and speaks and releases it when he is finished
talking. The issue which arises is VO gives the announcement abouted
being unmuted and has spoken longer than he has by the time he is
finished.

The question is:
Is there a way to decrease the verbosity of VO during zoom sessions so
he can avoid the nuisance status of his microphone?
Thanks in Advance.

Civi Crm is doable. You have to be an advanced screen reader user to

Re: iRobot iPhone app

2017-07-25 Thread Yolanda Thompson
So we have had our Neato about 1 week. It is pattern driven, where as
the IRobot just kinda goes round and round bouncing off of things.
The app is all accessible, except for (of course) the map. Initial
setup you will need sighted assistance to read the front panel.
Everything else is very doable.

 Hi all!

So am looking for some advice/guidance before I go out and start
applying for assistive tech grant money. I used to use the BrailleNote,
but mine died a long time ago. And even before it did, I was starting
to run into compatibility issues between it, the program I used to
transfer files to my old computer (a PC in those days), and the computer
itself. Plus, of course, I've since switched to Mac, which I don't
think my BrailleNote was compatible with anyway. So now I'm without a
Braille device! But I really want to get another one. What's
 compatible with Mac, though?

Basically, what I'm looking for would be a portable, refreshable Braille
device that I can easily transfer files to from my computer and back.
Because, although I might use it for writing sometimes, what I'd mainly
be using it for is reading. For example, I'd use it to read my papers
when I present at conferences, or my poetry/fiction at reading events.
Though, I might use it for private reading too. So are there devices in
the Mac compatible world that will allow me to do that?

Anyway, thanks. :-) I figured that, if anyone would know, it'd be folks
 here!

congratulate Microsoft on their efforts, and hope they keep it this

Here is the webpage, the one we have is just the black body scale, but
noticed there is a newer model listed on the page for less. Been two
years, but I think it was the setup between the scale and website.
However the healthmate app is accessible. Here is the link to the one we
have, and the newer is listed further on that page:

very accessible, but can't speak to Ios, windows or the mac. Perhaps I will give it a try on my

So what is the advantage of the Kindle book reading app over ibooks. I

let me choose to flick through characters and headings but not lines.
If it was reading continuously it would flip pages automatically but I
could only manually turn the page by going to the page chooser and
then flicking up and down. Probably just some gestures I don't know
about. I thought a three finger flick left/right would turn the page
like moving between pages of apps in the main screens.

I don't think it's fare to criticize Brandon, it's not like he is the one
demanding that you solve catpchas for creating accounts and whatever other
things you need to do to be productive. He's offering the solution to a
problem that currently has no other solution for the Mac. If you can develop
one for free that provides access to captchas, I'm sure people will migrate
to it if it's as usable. Or, you could run boot camp on your mac, install
firefox and webvisum, and off you go.
I think you're jumping way ahead of yourself here, and your response of not
offering to help others just because they disagree with you is quite
childish. If you're going to respectfully agree to disagree, such an action
would certainly not be consistent with that.

Wonder how hard it would be to write a safari plugin for webvism.

Oh, while I'm here, it does seem conceptually unfair that blind people
need to pay extra to solve a CAPTCHA when their sighted counterparts pay
nothing.
But then like in Brandon's case, he has to cover expenses to deliver
his service. We nearly lost webvism earlier this year presumably when
the domain expired or something. I would gladly support webvism if I
could get a better handle on who just actually owns the service. I
don't like to give money to some unknown entity that might disappear in a
moment's notice.

Also, people defended the pricing models used by companies like
Freedom Scientific or Humanware. Well, that's the problem with being
blindness specific. Their prices are way over the top! Apple includes
VoiceOver in all machines and I personally doubt the price increased
by much at all to include this feature. Macs have always been more
expensive than others so it was probablyh easier to add extra a11y
stuff with a minimal increase in price which was shared across the whole
product line and all customers.

RE: Braille editing/translation software for Mac?

2012-02-19 Thread Yolanda
Have you tried using the generic text only printer driver? That should work
under your virtual windows.

Hi.

I have tried for half a year to get that to work, even with a USB printer it
is not possible to solve that problem, I have also tried in VMWare, with the
same result. It seems as if the printer needs a driver.

If any of you have a solution, so that the brailleprinter will work in
windows in VMWare, I would love to hear about it.

Best regards Annie.

to USB adapters. its all installed i just have no software to

RE: countdown timer

I am unable to find howler in the app store. Any ideas?

I can't be sure, but the pro has some fun converters (volume and
temperature, I believe). It's quite accessible, too. I'm a horror fan, so I
love the sound effects. Fun app. :) I figured, why not pay a couple dollars
more for something fun and useful?

 Thank you anyways.

RE: Fusion 4 and Window-Eyes

2011-09-16 Thread Yolanda
If the video driver changed you will have to reinstall WE, When you get the
prompt as Mike said it just exits WE. So reinstall it in the new version
and it should be fine.

I don't think it tried to do that, since my windows 7 virtual machine works
fine the way it is, I'm going to leave it, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

 Mike,

Did your vm automatically try to install vmware tools even after saying no

 I have window yes, I think it's 7.2 installed, I will try it. I don't see
any difference in a version 4 virtual machine, I think it supports hd audio,

back, and telling fusion not to upgrade it. By the way, pressing enter at
that window eyes prompt does not reboot windows, it just exits window eyes.

 Hi All,

After upgrading from VMWare Fusion 3 to 4, fusion asked to upgrade my
Windows XP VM that I had been using with Fusion 3. After upgrading the VM,
Window-Eyes version 7.1 said that the video driver had changed and that
windows needed to restart. Window-Eyes then said press enter to continue.
After that point, I get no sound from the VM at all. I am not positive
whether or not it actually restarted but it appears that it probably did. At
least fusion seems to think that windows is running. At any rate, if I let
it sit for a few minutes, the fan on my Mac starts running at top speed
suggesting that the computer is working extremely hard.

I booted my system with an earlier SuperDuper clone and of course
Window-Eyes ran fine because I was again using fusion 3. I then uninstalled
Window-Eyes from that SuperDuper clone and copy the VM without Window-Eyes
back to my fusion 4 installation. I then allowed the XP VM to be upgraded by
fusion to work with fusion 4. I then ran System Access as the screen reader
and it works perfectly. I have not yet decided whether or not I will try
installing Window-Eyes but it is possible that Window-Eyes does not like
fusion 4.

Does anybody have fusion 4 working with Window-Eyes in an XP VM?

 Thanks,

 Robert Carter
