I have to correct myself on the noise cancelling bit. The Marque 2 does have
some noise cancelling or noise reduction, but not as good as the Edge has as I
read online.

I used to like the 21 and over parties at the exploratorium that they had after
work, I think it was usually Thursdays.

A few years ago I had a jawbone headset, I thought it was an era

When I was researching the device it was stated by jawbone that they worked
with DARPA to develop their headsets for milatry use.

One of the reasons I went for the product at the time.

Hi,

I absolutely do not believe this bone conduction thing. I have a pair of the
Blues as well, and there is no change in sound quality if I pull the headset
apart enough so that nothing touches my face. Try it yourself and tell me if
you notice a difference. That said, the speakers blasting and bleeding sound
out in front of your ears do allow you to hear both your device and ambient
sound. But true bone conduction will have no bleeding. Excellent hands on
exhibit at the Exploratorium in SF on this. Actually, it’s more of a teeth on

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-23 Thread Scott Granados
So jawbone is actually a pretty good name because it pings your jawbone to
detect activity. Most people are not aware of bone conduction. Out side of
our community the military is probably the only user.

In later versions of the jawbone like the Era the censor is not absolutely
required. It does work better using the censor but you don’t necessarily have
to use it.

As far it’s appearance, very small. Shaped like the old jawbone but if you
haven’t seen one it’s a small stylized shape with a piece that fits in your ear
and then a piece that sits on your cheek bone or jawbone. The whole deal is
about an inch long if that an half inch wide. Weight is only a few grams.

Hi Scott,

Works pretty well for me, must have the volume turned up high though. Unless it
has some noise cancelling after all… Dont know for sure.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-23 Thread Scott Granados
To be clear, the jawbone does not * use * bone induction. Not even close.
There is a small censor that rests on your cheek / jawbone that is a noise
gate. When you speak one of the first things that happens before sound leaves
your mouth is your jaw starts to move. That movement triggers the censor which
opens the noise gate and allows your voice in. If you’re not speaking the
noise gate is closed and sound isn’t picked up. They use this a lot in
military headsets for example helicopters and tanks.

Thanks

Just bought me a Plantronics Marque 2 (m165) single earpiece headset after
looking at all the options.
I considered the Jawbone Era and Plantronics Edge as well, but the Jawbone
models need to touch your jaw in order to function properly. Don’t know if this
is part or full bone conduction , but didn’t want to have something to be on my
face. The Plantronics Edge is larger than the Marque 2 and more expensive. The
additional features of the Edge like noise cancelling and charge unit I don’t
need. So I bought the Marque 2 and very satisfied with it where I use it for,
some reading in public transit. The unit has some physical buttons for volume,
on/off switch end multipurpose button for Siri, answering etc. The unit speaks
when turning on how much talktime there is left, the pairing process, volume
etc. The Marque 2 costst about 50 euro.

Trekz (that's t r e k z) Titanium is the newest model, and I love it. The feel

it is software, and not one I've heard others talk about, so I think I just got
a lemon. Once I can get it working, it'll be much better than the Bluez. To my
ears, the sound leaks no more than it would on standard over-ear headphones,
and the sound quality is different from the Bluez, but not bad. The mic works
reasonably well, too. Not amazing, but you can be heard on phone calls.

When did you call them to have that done? I don't know why I always seem to be
the bad luck of the draw, but I don't doubt you.

that was my experience, but perhaps others will have better luck, as you did.
I'm not trying to bash them. I'm simply just stating the experience I had. If
others have had better luck, then that's awesome!

2S model is really great, and has improved this quite significantly.

As for the newer model, I think it's called the Treck? Don't quote me on
that title though, it's only available in selected markets from what I
understand, but I hear it is unbelievable. I've never seen one though, so I
can't really comment. Knowing though what I do about their products, I'd

The only thing really that I would say I have totally against Aftershokz,
is though their customer service is great in general, don't expect them to keep
their promises in a timely manor!

When I broke my tention band strap, they said they'd send me a replacement,
which yes, they did, but oh what a mes! First, they said they'd send it
over-night, and wouldn't charge me for it, nor shipping, which of course, they
didn't, but over night turned into about a month and a half before I got the
dad blame thing. And when I did, it was the wrong strap. I was so angry for
the wait, and for the time it took, I sent them photos of the wrong strap they
sent, and photos of my broken strap, and demanded that they over-night it again
correctly, and not delay things.

They not only told me the unit had been shipped out, but they even went so
far as to tell me it was estimated to arrive in half a week, which I later
determined that they not even shipped it to start with, let alone knew the
delivery date. Once I got a rep on the phone to spill that confession, I asked
for a supervisor to call me back. I told them if I didn't hear back within 24
hours max, I'd be putting a bad review up on my blog, Amazon, their own web
site, etc.

This time, they complied. Within about half a day, I heard from a manager.
Though very very short and terse with me, you could tell he didn't want to be
in this position, he asked what could be done to make things right. I told
him, I only have the 1st generation headset. Send me the 2nd gen on the house
over-nighted. No charge to me at all for shipping, nor for the actual headset
itself. He was very hesitant, but he did it.

Granted, I didn't get it over night as he promised. It took about 3 weeks.

My point being, you'd be better off buying their stuff through Amazon, or a
3rd party reseller. The products themselves are steller! Absolutely killer!
I'd never ask for anythying else, but that said, their phone support is
absolutely horrible, and frankly, I'd not trust those guys there at the
headquarters call center as far as I could throw 'em.

Still though, don't let that turn you off from the product itself. And, if
you ever did need a replacement, or something, I never said the people there
wouldn't help you. They will, but just know, it won't be quick, that's for
sure.

Max, your brother is misinformed. Bluetooth is a series of specifications
that are standardized so aside some special features in general most
things work pretty well with each other. There are headsets in general
though that work better than others. This is one of the favorite topics
of mine and also the moderator’s Mark I believe.

In my mind there are two ways to go and there have been the 2 same players
on top for a while now. There is the plantronics legend and the era by
jawbone. The Jawbone is the most stylish / smallest headset and the
plantronics is the largest most utilitarian of the two. Depends on what
your goal is. If you want to look cool, have good noise reduction, medium
battery life and have the same toys as the cool kids buy a Jawbone. If
you want your headset to work in all conditions, want fantastic noise
reduction, don’t care about the fact there’s a boom microphone and you
need great battery life then the plantronics voyager pro legend is the way
to go. Hands down the plastrons works the best it’s just whether your
concern is mostly function or you want some style.

How’s that?

BTW I use the voyager pro legend almost exclusively now although I carry
both. I find the plantronics just more stable and for my professional
calls and work environment the only option.

Yes, the edge is still the best headset in my opinion. It amazes me how long
both headsets have been out with no replacement.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-20 Thread Alex Hall
Volume is subjective based on many factors, but at full blast I can hear the
Aftershokz over traffic. I'm not in a city as busy as yours, though. As to
sound leaking, they've done a lot of work in that area lately. The new Trekz
and Bluez are supposed to practically eliminate the problem, but I have yet to
test that claim. I hear it's much better than it was, though.

Scott,

I've not tried the Plantronics legend but know it was a great device back in

Would you still put it above the Edge?

And I used one of the early era devices but at that point it's accessibility
wasn't great. Still it was an excellent device,
I just need to stop being so hard on headsets.

Max, your brother is misinformed. Bluetooth is a series of specifications that
are standardized so aside some special features in general most things work
pretty well with each other. There are headsets in general though that work
better than others. This is one of the favorite topics of mine and also the
moderator’s Mark I believe.

In my mind there are two ways to go and there have been the 2 same players on
top for a while now. There is the plantronics legend and the era by jawbone.
The Jawbone is the most stylish / smallest headset and the plantronics is the
largest most utilitarian of the two. Depends on what your goal is. If you
want to look cool, have good noise reduction, medium battery life and have the
same toys as the cool kids buy a Jawbone. If you want your headset to work in
all conditions, want fantastic noise reduction, don’t care about the fact
there’s a boom microphone and you need great battery life then the plantronics
voyager pro legend is the way to go. Hands down the plastrons works the best
it’s just whether your concern is mostly function or you want some style.

How’s that?

BTW I use the voyager pro legend almost exclusively now although I carry both.
I find the plantronics just more stable and for my professional calls and work
environment the only option.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
The problem I have with the Aftershokz stuff is that first it leaks like a
sieve, and secondly they aren’t very loud. They’re good for the TTS if you
turn the volume up, but a lot of recordings at normal levels just won’t go that
loud even if you’ve used iTunes to bump up the playback volume. And that’s
important if you’re in London with lots of howling traffic. Of course the
obvious countermeasure to this problem, that of plugging your ears, is just as
dangerous as turning the volume right up.

So I’m also wondering where to go from here, except it probably won’t be
Aftershokz—or if it is, it won’t be Aftershokz Sport.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
I stick with the Aftershokz Bluez sports, the latest headphones in that range.
I can’t wear bluetooth ear pieces as my ears are too small so for me right now,
these aftershokz are ideal due to my ears being so small. Light weight and
comfortable to wear all day and improved in the weather.

Thanks.

Kawal.

I’ve heard less than positive things about them so have stayed away from them.
Also they don’t sound like they would be particularly high fidelity to me but
that could be just me being picky.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Scott Granados
A jawbone might not be a bad option because it doesn’t obscure your
environmental sounds that badly and it’s got a pretty focused audio
distribution pattern so you can jack up the audio and still get outside sounds
mixed in if you’re good at multitasking audio. Might not work but just a
thought.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Scott Granados
It pairs up to 8 and is another great suggestion. I would suggest the edge
especially to people who wear glasses because it does not require a behind the
ear loop or mount. The noise reduction is better than the jawbone but not
quite as good as the legend but very very good. All these options also support
A2DP.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Scott Granados

Right, OK, so what’s the better of the Aftershokz headsets, then? If not the
Bluez 2 then what?

I’ve just bought myself an Aftershokz Bluez 2S headset and wonder if i’ve made
a mistake. The reviews in the blind community aren’t so good. Some say they are
uncomfortable and that they break and the sound isn’t good and so on which
makes me wonder what i’ve done.

RE: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-19 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Max,

Do yo u want something to go over head covering both ears or just one ear?

If just one ear, I'd recommend the Plantronics voyager edge,

I've had one now a couple of months and It's great, excelant battery life and
great quality sound plus it allows for multiple devices I think it's up to 8
but I've only got 4 synched at the moment.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-18 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hi,

I bought a pair of the After Shocks, while the sound isn’t bad, its not exactly
great either. I suppose the one thing I like about them is they don’t sit on
the ear so you can hear other things going on around you and if its hot you
don’t have the cups right on your ears. On the other hand, that same thing not
being on/over the ears lets you hear background noise when listening, say to an
audio book. If the contact of the headphone piece isn’t situated just so on
the bone of your face it can also impact the sound and ability to hear. They
are light weight and travel nicely..

The other thing about the After Shocks headphones that I really dislike is
having to charge them up to use them. And there is not a way to know how much
charge is left.

The headphones I really love are my Bose over-head noise cancelling. Sound
quality is fantastic and blocks out a lot of background noise. On the negative
side they are larger and difficult if your traveling and trying to keep things
light. There is a higher price tag associated with them, but Bose is great
quality.

HTH.

Re: blue tooth headsets

2016-03-18 Thread Alex Hall
I got the Titanium Trekz today. The sound leak is very much diminished, and
sounds to my ears like what you'd expect of any headphones. They're very much
lighter and more comfortable, too, and seem (initially) to be much more
resilient. Of course, they aren't Bose or Senheisser, so don't expect awesome
sound quality. They're meant to provide good sound while leaving your hands
free and ears open, which they do quite well. Don't use them for monitoring
music recording or losing yourself in audio--because they aren't made for
that--and you should enjoy them.

What I don't like is the lack of a rewind control (but you can go forward) and
the fact that they drop to phone-quality audio when you use the mic. That's not
just for phone calls, it's dictation, Siri, or recording. But that's a
limitation of bluetooth, not the fault of Aftershokz, as I understand it. I
also haven't yet tested the mic, so I have no idea how it is compared to older
models of this headset.

Well, all right, it can’t hurt to try it. I ordered a pair of the Trek
Titanium, and I’ll find some unlucky recipient of these Bluez 2.

I don’t expect it to be like proper cans (I have wired corded and Kleer
cordless Sennheiser for indoor use) but I do want to be able to listen to my
narrated audiobooks while outdoors. I don’t trust Bluetooth for high-fidelity,
for all the usual reasons.
