Hi,

When you are reading the document within the Files app, you should have a Share
button down near the bottom of the screen. Double-tap that and send it to the
app you wish to edit it in.

Re: iCloud Drive and Editors

2020-01-07 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

A problem with the method I mentioned is that it will make a duplicate copy of
the document in the other app. so, for example, if you chose to share the
document to Pages, it would make an editable copy of the document with the
dot-Pages extension. Thus, you would not be specifically working in the same
document as you had originally in the Files app. Not sure if this will be
improved upon in future updates to the Files app, but that's the best I can
suggest for now.

Re: iCloud Drive and Editors

2020-01-07 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi ET,

When you open text editor, it defaults to showing a list of recently opened
files. But at the bottom of the screen, there are two buttons, recents, which
is selected, and Browse. If you tap browse, you can browse and open files in
iCloud drive.

In Voice Dream Writer, the easiest way is by opening the File Manager. All your
recently opened files will show up there. (Note that you will want to enable
iCloud syncing.) Alternatively, you can select Add Document, which is at the
top left of the screen, right next to the File Manager button.. Then select
Import from External Location. Then you'll have a choice between Recents, and
Browse. If you Select Browse, and iCloud is enabled, that will be one of your
options.
HTH,
Donna

Donna,
I was just working with Voice Dream Writer and Text Editor and find
the former easier to use. Both apps are set up in iCloud Drive. If I
open a document in iCloud Drive, it opens in Text Editor. How do I
change that? Thanks.

I am disappointed that Comic Sans MS is not in the list of fonts.
Could be worse, right?

Donna,
I was testing different things and was not looking in the app
specific folder. But now a question. If say, on Windows, I edit an rtf
file then try to view it on the iPhone, I get an error message saying it
failed to import, file must be in plain text. This happened in both
Voice Dream Writer and Pages. Have you seen this too?

iCloud drive.
Then you'll have a choice between Recents, and
Browse. If you Select Browse, and iCloud is enabled, that will be one of your
options.

Donna,
I may be overdriving this. I want to settle on which rtf editor I
use on the Mac and on the iDevices. I copied the same document to the
native TextEdit folder in iCloud Drive. But on the iPhone, when I want
to the TextEdit folder and selected that file, it opened in Voice Dream

Donna,

me how you do it.

Using Voice Dream Writer, what steps do you take to create or edit
an rtf document? Do do all of it from the Voice Dream Writer on iCloud

When I edit the document, I do not see a save option. Under the
Export button I used the export to external destination option.
