[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1681952] Mahara Hui FR 2018
Dear Kristina and Don, Today we had our first Webconf meeting to start the process in organising the next Moodlemoot and Mahara Hui FR. We have two universities competing to organise the event but it seems that Brussels is our top proposition so far. The final decision is taken by the 20th of this month after a quick vote of the francophone community. The association in charge of the organisation – moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> - in which you already know some of their members from Moodlemoot FR in Sion (Switzerland) two years ago (Nicolas Martignoni - president, Séverin Terrier, Thierry Spriet, Paula, Nicolas Thorel, and me) has decided to sign a contract with MoodleHD to become the official Moodlemoot FR. This contract, we already talked quickly about it at Sion, impose some constraints in terms of communication and it seems that Martin Dougiamas is quite strict on the fact that no other brands from other LMS vendors can be seen when official Moodlemoots are organised. Nicolas Martignoni has asked many times MoodleHD and Martin to have the right to organise and communicate at the same time about a Moodlemoot and a Mahara Hui FR. Nicolas told us today that these demands were always declined. The consequence of this is that there is a high risk that next year there won’t be any communication about Mahara Hui FR 2018. The call for papers for the Moodlemoot Fr 2018 will be open to ePortfolio contributions but they would be part of the moot and not anymore put behind the banner of the Mahara francophone community. This also there won’t be any opportunity to display Mahara sign, banners, or flyers. When we quickly talk about that matter you told me that you – Catalyst – could maybe intercede with MoodleHQ to find an agreement or to discuss the possibility to join Mahara Hui to Moodlemoot branding for different occasions. In the French community the history is that we started the first Hui with the help of the Moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> organisation because it was making sense, because in the comity we were using or being Mahara advocate. If moodlemoot.fr <http://moodlemoot.fr/> has to follow the strict rules imposed by MoodleHD, it means we have to solutions: 1/ stop talking and advertising about Mahara Hui FR and still having papers presented on Mahara and ePortfolios during the Moodlemoot FR, without branding 2/ organise at a different time in the year a proper Mahara Hui FR. I would like to hear your voice on this matter to see how Catalyst envisions the maintaining and development of Mahara Hui FR and the francophone community. Happy for a chat on Skype of Google HangOut at some point, if needed. All the best, Dominique-Alain Jan PS : I will be down under in Mai-June to present my thesis and also to seek for a new professional challenge -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1690415] [NEW] Override SmartEvidence icons with local folder
Public bug reported: After a discussion with some users at the beginning of the week, it could be interesting to be able to change the icons used to show skills attainment on the SmartEvidence panel. At present time, the icons are circles in different colours: grey when ready for assessment, orange (half circle) when it needs some more work, red when not attained, and green when the level of the skill is reached by the user. My proposition is to be able to change these icons by others in placing the replacement in the local folder. The context in which this feature is the following: stakeholders wanted learners to use SmartEvidence to tell how much they think having attained a skill (expertise) but also how pleasurable it was to reach the skill level. For the latter it would make sense to use small smiley (for example) than the coloured circles. So the requested feature could be either simple: having a set of icons in the local folder to replace those used for every SmartEvidence matrix. or adding a set of icons for each matrix file, for example in a zipped folder, we import aside of the matrix file in the Admin page. ** Affects: mahara Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1688165] Re: Image not shown in group description if not a member of a group
Hello I know understand why on the French group home page the pictures are not displayed when users are not log in. I always suspected that the problem was on me, but now it makes sense. D. JAN -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. Matching subscriptions: Subscription for all Mahara Contributors -- please ask on #mahara-dev or mahara.org forum before editing or unsubscribing it! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1688165 Title: Image not shown in group description if not a member of a group Status in Mahara: Confirmed Bug description: Seen in Mahara 16.10 and 17.04 but most likely the case also in earlier versions. When you include an image in the group description and someone who is not yet a member of the group looks at the group homepage, that someone cannot see the image as only members of the group have access to the files that are saved in a group. In contrast to images added to a text block on a page and the page then being shared and others can see the images, that doesn't work for group homepages. If you add an image to an image block though, you can view the image just fine. To replicate: 1. Create a group and save it. 2. Add an image to the group description (you can only do that after you saved the group because before then you don't have group files available) and save. 3. Log in as someone else and view the group homepage. Expected result: You see the image. Actual result: You can't and only see the alt text. There are two possibilities going forward: 1. Correct the permissions so you can view images added to the group description. 2. Remove the possibility to add images in a group description. The images don't show up in the overview page of the available groups. And images can be added easily to the group homepage by using the image block. It could be worthwhile to discuss not offering the possibility to have all the formatting options for description fields such as group description and page description. In the past, we wanted more formatting options in page descriptions in order to circumvent the column layout which was not flexible enough to have a banner across the entire page. This has been possible for a number of versions now and the need for page description formatting is not so great anymore. Therefore, I wonder if we could dispense with either all formatting options or at minimum remove the possibility to add images. No matter the decision, since it's easy to get around the issue with images in the group description, I'm marking this as a low bug. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1678599] [NEW] New interface does not show everything on screen
Public bug reported: On 17.04 preview, the new interface (app like) has some issues on my server after upgrading from 16.10. I don't know how the menus shoud be now, but here I see the submenus as a list of options directly under each main menu. This causes the frame to be, I think, higher than expected and part the main content is not accessible. It is either the case for the blocks on the left side bar. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1625863] Re: Adding cli for langpacks
Could we imagine that, as it is the case with Moodle, this script becomes part of the upgrade.php script and automatically upgrade the langpack to the latest version of the release at each upgrade? The upgrade script would look at the installed langpacks and upgrade them with the latest version. Langpacks (I am talking about the French's one at least) are evolving with the feedback of users pointing out mistranslation or grammar/spelling mistakes. So it is good to update the pack on one's distro time to time. The upgrade.php could do this. This cli script will make that easier. This this cli does: 1) Install / update langpacks by listing the languages by their code, eg de = German, fr = French like so sudo -u www-data php admin/cli/sync_langpacks.php -l=de,fr This will make a backup of the existing language (if exists) into the dataroot langpacks_backup directory. 2) If you don't want to make backups then add the -b=false flag, eg sudo -u www-data php admin/cli/sync_langpacks.php -l=de,fr -b=false 3) If you need to rollback the backups you can use the -r=true flag, eg sudo -u www-data php admin/cli/sync_langpacks.php -l=de,fr -r=true To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1625863/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors Post to : mahara-contributors@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~mahara-contributors More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 929499] Re: Request for a wider range of sources in the file picker
The cloud plugin is not working anymore with present version of Mahara (since 1.7 I think). In the wish that eP users foster the ownership of their material, it would be interesting that Mahara can use files stored elsewhere (external repositories) such as DropBox or GDrive. The idea is that Mahara will manage the metadata (keywords, description, etc.) and either keep an handle to the original file or let user to copy it into his/her personal files zone on Mahara. Something close to what Moodle is doing to manage files in courses. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1548263] [NEW] Feature request : Attached files to comments should not count toward disk usage of the users
Public bug reported: Since a couple of versions of Mahara it is possible to add files to comment of a user's page or artefact. The manual says : "Comment authors can attach a file to their comment to give you longer feedback or oral or video feedback. The files that they add are placed into your personal *Files* area so you can use that feedback later on." The files (video, audio, text) are then added to the users' files area and I understand that they count to determine the remaining allowed space given by the admin to the users. Because the size of documents added that way to users' files area is not controlled by the users, I think it is not right to count these in the calculation of the remaining quota. 1/ I suggest that files attached to comments are managed in a special folders (e.g. Users'Files --> Commments) and that this folder don't count to calculate the remaining users' disk quota. 2/ In addition to this we could have a site admin setting to manage a quota for files attached to comments to avoid a server overloading by tutors commenting on users' productions. ** Affects: mahara Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1381228] Re: Problem with journal entry only showing creation date and not modified date
Hello, This Mahara journals' behavior was also reported by the Nursing school in Friboug last Monday. Students reported they have regularly created journal entries alongside their semesters (as requested) but have filled them with their reflections on the very last minutes. Tutors noticed nothing because the forum post doesn't show neither the date of publication nor the last editing of the message. This is then a serious issue whether we want to be sure that students engage on a regular basis with their reflexive journal. I then also vote for this to be changed in the next version of Mahara, if it is possible to do so. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. Previously localized strings where placed in different parts of the core code, together with the /lang/en.utf8 folders. For now, the lang menu is showed only if one or mere xx.utf8 folders are found in the maharadata/langpack folder. And after a discussion about this with François I agree this is fine. Normally, when a non-English language is selected by the admin or the user, it seems to me, that Mahara first looks into the core lang folders for the appropriate xx.utf8 folders and if not found, goes into the langpack afterwards. With some plugins this works fine (e.g., CPDS) and for example French strings are displayed from the fr.utf8 folders embeded in the plugin folder. With some others (embdly, externsource, ldap, ...) this doesn't work. To get the French translation, the admin has to move the fr.utf8 from the core plugins folders and place them into the langpack folders in the maharadata. I don't understand that the behaviour is different from one plugin to another. Moreover, I would propose that the multilingual mechanist become the following: 1) I can cope with the obligation to create a xx.utf8 folder in the maharadata/langpack folder to avoid having a list of undesired languages in the language menu. This gives system admin a way to control languages displayed on the platform. For each string to be displayed: 2) Mahara gets the user/system selected language (xx) 3) Mahara first looks into the langpack/xx.utf8 folder. If the folder is found, Mahara uses all the strings of these files to display information 4) If the string is not found, Mahara looks into the core lang/xx.utf8 folders to find it, if found, it displays the information 5) If the string is not found, Mahara looks into the langpacks/en.utf8 folder 6) If the string is not found, Mahara looks into the core lang/en.utf8 folder 7) If the string is not found, Mahara displays an error with the name of the string? (But this should never happen). That way: A) developers can offer localised versions of their plugin without giving more work to the system admin for moving files from the plugin to the maharadata/langpack B) Wether admins want override a translation or the en.utf8 strings, they can by adding xx.utf8 or en.utf8 folders into the langpack folder. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1455122] [NEW] Upgrade form 1.10 to 15.04 fails if 3rd party plugins are not present
Public bug reported: When upgrading from 1.10 (latest build) to 15.04 (latest build) today I get the following error because some 3rd party plugins are not present on my server but, due to the lack on auto-unstallation, their traces remain in the database. If I run again the command later I get the second error message (see below). The upgrade process should be resilient when 3rd party plugins are not here. I think we already had this with previous versions of Mahara and it has been fixed. My only way to upgrade to 15.04 is either : 1/ Find all the bit of information related to the missing plugins and delete them from the database or 2/ Reinstall everything from scratch loosing all the data from the Groups (no option to export group work in Leap2a) or 3/ Reinstall the missing plugins. [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1372322] Re: CLI upgrader can't handle plugin forced-installs
I noticed this problem when I tied to upgrade from 1.8 and 1.9 to 1.10dev. I thought that my installations were faulty. Apparently they where not. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mahara Contributors, which is subscribed to Mahara. The problem occurs when you're trying to run a site upgrade, where the core upgrade includes a forced install of a new plugin (such as we have for the new blocktype/text plugin). This used to work -- you can see in lib/db/upgrade.php that we installed several earlier core plugins this way. The most recent was artefact/comment, installed as part of the Mahara 1.5.0 upgrade. But, the change for Bug 1311428 causes not-yet-installed plugins to be included in the return results from check_upgrades(), and then assumes that the calling script will filter these out. The GUI upgrader was modified to filter these out, but the CLI upgrader was not. To replicate: 1. Install Mahara 1.9 2. Check out the current 1.10 HEAD 3. How it works in 1.8RC: A) At the bottom of the form you get the option to add a file with a Browse button. B) The plus sign link (+) under the Browse button lets you add many Browse button without actually having uploaded a file with the previous Browse button. C) The plus sign link (+) disappears (but it is still clickable) when 'mouseovered' once. D) When the form is then saved and accessed again for editing, the add file interface has changed and a button Add file is displayed instead of the *Browse and plus (+) sign. Using firefox on Ubuntu - Steps to reproduce: 1) Go to Content - Files and click the Upload file box 2) Select multiple files to upload and click 'Open' All the selected files show the 'Uploading ...' message but only the last one then ticks over to 'Uploaded ...'. Refreshing the page shows that all the files have actually uploaded. Note: I was using 6 small image files to test with (between 7kb - 600kb). [Mahara-contributors] [Bug 806764] Re: [Ongoing] Ensure system requirements are checked before installation/upgrade starts

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1036556] Re: Embed PDF
I think this most depends on the web browser the user uses. In some (Firefox, Safari) ones can add plugin to do that but not all web browser provide out-of-the-box pdf display features.
