When MapInfo opens tables, if the table limits are outside the currently opened window, a new window is opened instead. To avoid this, open only the first table and then zoom way out. Then open the rest of the tables, and they'll all fall into the open window, which will also solve your seamless layer creation problem. - Bill Thoen - List hosting provided by Directions Magazine | www.directionsmag.com | To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Message number: 12698 ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Re: MI-L Print the layout as a PDF
Yep, that's the way to do it. You can also fix the output location here e.g. c:\pdf. The file takes the window title as the default name e.g. layout.pdf so you may want to issue a 'set window title' before printing to give it a more meaningful name - particularly useful when used in a loop! RE: MI-L Reverse Selection
Ash, That method will not work if the objects intersect (obviously) which include objects which share a common point e.g. two roads at a junction or a boundary file. It also won't work if some records don't have map objects. The best way is to use a unique field on the table. (If you haven't got a unique field you can easily add a new column and update it with rowid). Then you can use select * from MYTABLE where MYTABLE.UniqueField <> all(select UniqueField from selection) Regards, Ian Hull Greater Manchester Transportation Unit Salisbury House Granby Row Manchester M1 7AH Tel: 0161 455 2059 Fax: 0161 455 2071 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "Simmonds, Ashley (PTB)" To: "'Mapinfo List (E-mail)'" <[EMAIL PROTECTED] <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> .sa.gov.au>cc: Subject: RE: MI-L Reverse Selection 14/07/2003 03:30 i think this werks to invert selection, but it's kinda slow sometimes. # Select * from TABLENAME where not(obj intersects any(select obj from selection)) into Selection2 # ash -Original Message- From: Bob Regier [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, 12 July 2003 4:42 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: MI-L Reverse Selection Hi, I am running MapInfo 6.0 and I would like to be able to reverse a selection (e.g. unselect the selected polygons and select the unselected ones) I know this functionality is built into more recent versions, but I wondered if there is a utility I can use with 6.0? MI-L Layout windows and printers
Hi, I'm trying to write an application (MapInfo/Mapbasic 5.5) to create layout windows with stuff in e.g. text/objects/map windows etc. The problem I'm trying to overcome is printing to different printers. On one printer everything is fine but on another, with a different printable area, some stuff is lost in the margins. If I use the common printable area then the available space becomes too small and the margins too large. I'm trying to use the Windows API call to GetDeviceCaps to obtain the printer capabilities - x/y offsets, papersize etc. so I can create a layout tailored for each printer. However, this seems to return slightly different values with each call for the same printer. Has anyone else come across this problem or am I barking up the wrong tree with getdevicecaps?? Any (polite) suggestions welcome!! Thanks to all the responses. Everyone pointed me to the OS Boundary Line product, which is available to me through the SLA. However, according to the OS website some of the changes to wards in districts in Greater Manchester will not appear until the October 2004 dataset (even though they are being used for the forthcoming elections) so I was sort of hoping for another avenue.. MI-L GPS and Geotrack
Listers, I have connected my Garmin GPS to my laptop and I can track my movements in MapInfo using the Geotrack application (bundled with MI). I can manually store my location using the GPS Point Geocode option within geotrack. What I would like to do is automatically store my location (and time), say every 10 seconds. Is there an option I'm missing or is there another way of copying effectively the track symbols to a table? Thanks for the replies. It appears that MI can't read GML and there are no plans to do so. The only option is to use a converter. MI-L Displaying Raster Maps
Help! I've got a workspace with two map windows. One of the map windows contains a single seamless table which looks at 75 raster tables. I keep this map window minimised and use the other map window for navigation and drawing various objects. I have written MapBasic code that recenters the raster map based on the non-raster map and creates a layout window which contains (amongst other things) the two map windows in frames. The problem is that the raster map in the layout is blank until I open the raster map window and allow it to display all of the raster tables in the map area. Is there any way (in code) of getting MI to refresh the seamless table and open the raster maps required for a map window without that window being the active window? I hope this makes sense Many thanks, Ian Hull Greater Manchester Transportation Unit Salisbury House Granby Row Manchester M1 7AH Tel: 0161 455 2059 Fax: 0161 455 2071 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ** This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. Re: MI-L Displaying Raster Maps
Bob, The layout frame is blank because the map window itself is blank, so refreshing the layout has no effect. What I need is to get the map window to read in the appropriate seamless raster table. The seamless raster map only seems to load the map tables that are needed for display. When the map is moved to a new location the tables are closed again, but unless the map is active the new tables are not loaded. The only way I can get this to work is to make the raster map the active map and it redraws itself (given time). The solution is not very pretty as the user sees the map appear and disappear. MI-L SUM Displaying Raster Maps
Many thanks to Bob Young at By Design who came up with an explanation and a solution (below) that works without having to make the raster map the active window. Again, thanks to everyone who replied, Ian Hull Greater Manchester Transportation Unit Salisbury House Granby Row Manchester M1 7AH Tel: 0161 455 2059 Fax: 0161 455 2071 E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hi Ian After a bit of experimenting I think I have found a workaround to this. It would appear that the layout frame "shares" a memory bitmap with the map, and shares a source set of tables. When you move the map to a different raster image the list does not get updated because the map is not visible and the layout is not programmed to refresh from the seamless layer - instead using the existing selection - which is now perhaps off the proposed area of interest. However my workaround is to use "Save Window as" in your code. This also seems to share the same bitmap and does "know" that it needs to reread the seamless layer. However you will need to recentre the map twice. ie set map window idMap center ( myValX, myValY) save window idMap "c:\temp\temp.bmp" type "BMP" set map window idMap center ( myValX, myValY) This is inefficient as a disk write takes place - but works! Perhaps you could experiment with keeping the image as small as possible, and in a compressed format like GIF - after all you do not want it. However the image getting saved must include your full area of interest otherwise the list of raster source files will not cover all your area - but just the area it needs to write. The two calls to map centre are necessary. The first resets it but as you have found does not open the files. The save window forces the appropriate files to get read for your new centre but still does not redraw your layout. The second set centre updates your layout. I think you have identified a "feature" that could be resolved in MapInfo source code. The layout should be programmed to reread the seamless layers MBRs and load the appropriate files rather than reuse the existing selection from the seamless layer. I'm pretty confident this workaround resolves your problem.
