MD: Hello , I have a few questions:
Hello , I have a few questions: 1) Which is the best MD now availabale? (I thought of the sony mz-r90) 2) I heard that the MDLP system is not so good. I mean the sound quality in LP-2/4, is it true? 3) What is the best price for the sony mz-r90 (I found it for 197.95$, is there anywhere less?) thank you. Re: MD: Hello , I have a few questions:
well long play depends on you. if you like MP3's, long play is great. if you think mp3's lack all quality whatsoever and pretty much do not use them except in extreme cases where you can not find the original, then lp probably isn't what your looking for. as for "best" that's one that nobody can answer, you should ask "what might be the most appropriate recorder/player for my situtation" and then give the parameters or your search, that would help out more than best. - Original Message - From: "Lion Shmulevich" [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: "MD list" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, February 24, 2001 8:21 AM Subject: MD: Hello , I have a few questions: Hello , I have a few questions: 1) Which is the best MD now availabale? And there is no way to switch to Line Out. So, don't chop the connector. It will be useless anyway. Interesting ... my MZ-R50 does not do that when I insert the remote. But your 900 line out goes DEAD when the remote is plugged in? When did this advancement show up in the Sony recorders? I too use a (total) Airhead and this sort of concerns me, excepting I hardly use the remote. I could see how it could be handy however. Go for it Niels. Personally I think the best soln is to not buy the E900, or return it, and go with an R900 that has a separate line out (I assume it does, as does my R50). Problem solved and some flexibility with the recorder is added. I don't use my R50 much for recording but it comes in handy enough to justify the additional $80-100 cost. -jts Arlington, TX - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yes ... or simply not use the remote when the Airhead is in use. I carry my R50 and Total Airhead all the time without using the remote. Of course with the R50 I have two physically separate outputs (headphone and line out) but I simply don't hassle with the remote when portable. I don't need it when using it from a desk or other stationary surface. So, as I see it the practial solutions are ... 1. don't use the remote when the Airhead is in use or 2. return the E900 for an R900 (or whatever LPMD unit has a physically separate line out) -jts Arlington, TX - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I personally would not purchase an MD unit without the LP feature for these reasons. I have to portable units, an E40 player and an R50 recorder/player. And I have a 940 deck with LP. I plan to add an R900 or similar Sharp unit (ST70?) soon. LP is that useful in my hands. This would be very unfortunate. Does the one output of the E900 serve as both a line out (with no volume adjustment) or a headphone out (a so the volume is adjustable)? If so I did not appreciate this previously. However if this were the case then the volume adjustment circuit, well ... I guess it's taken out of the signal path electronically rather than mechanically. So the signal has a more direct path to the jack and therefore less chance of distortion ... which is the desired result, a 'straight wire' path to the Airhead. RE: MD: Hello , I have a few questions:
Agreed! I have the 940 and the E900. and they make a great couple... Personally I couldn't hear any difference between SP and LP2. however, there is a difference in LP4...the most obvious difference is the channel separation.. which is not as clear as the other 2 mode.. but it's still very good. === = NB: Over 50% of this message is QUOTED, please = = be more selective when quoting text = === The R900 does not have a separate line out. The same jack is used and there's a "software" switch for switching between phones and line out. Also, if you plug in the remote, it would not switch to line out mode. "David W. Tamkin" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Unfortunately, the new Sony playback-only units don't have an auto-switch headphone/line jack. They are headphone-ONLY. Several people have posted that the same jack acts as a line-out under certain circumstances. But David, NOT on the new Sony players. There are two kinds of "combo" jacks: the kind used on many Sharp models that automatically sense the impedance of the attached device/cable, and change to line/headphone appropriately; and the kind used on many Sony recorder units that can be manually switched between line/headphone by the user. The jack on the new Sony players is NEITHER (caps for clarity, not volume ;)). It is headphone-only, and cannot act as a line out. This is according to Sony. Hope this clarifies.
