MD: RESCUE
I have an MD that I recorded on my Portable that will not play back, even on my MDS-JB930 deck. I suspect that the very end of the write did not work, and the TOC is screwed up. Can I rescue this disk with my MD Deck, or is it a more difficult maneuver? There was some pretty important material on there. (The disk still gives a track length time, it just won't play.) Any suggestions? I realise that I can't digitally hook my portable up to my computer so I was wondering what the forum thinks the best solution is for me? As far as I understand it, the "optical" coming out of minidisks (dubbed TOSLINK) is a SPDIF signal, just an optical one. You can buy a small box that will connect the two for about 40 bucks (I think hoontech has one, but look around.) and this way, you get the cheap solution, and probably the best as well since you'll be staying with a digital signal. Use the box to go digitally from your portable to your card's SPDIF in, and then burn baby burn... Good luck... -=J ------- James Caran e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] New Res: 1162 Geneva Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112 Phone: (415)587-8243 Cell: (510)823-6367 Web Crew, http://www.hyannissound.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] having a rough day?-- http://www.hamsterdance.com having a rough day that is someone else's fault?-- http://www.dogdoo.com/ Enjoy... - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: Psycho-Acoustics OT
Greetings folks, I was just playing around in Cool Edit, and I discovered a pretty crazy little are that did "Brainwave Synchronization" and some other random crazy things. I have a little experience in thse matters, but I am looking for some good webpages and source material on the topics of Brainwaves and music, rays of different variety (Gamma, Theta,) etc... I figure, if there's one place where they'll be a bunch of people who know random musical information of a technical nature, and so here I am... Thoughts, suggestions? I know that I wrote OT, but there is an On Topic (OT?) :) reference as well. Minidisk recorders and the ATRAC compression system eliminate a large portion of the audio from a signal, and we have all been told that this missing signal not in the human hearing spectrum. Now many of these special areas of sound are in the extreme ranges of frequency, and I can't imagine that the ATRAC and other compressions do not remove/alter the effect of many types of music. Thoughts? Asking a question, and possibly throwing a spark in for good measure, -=James ------- James Caran e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] New Res: 1162 Geneva Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94112 Phone: (415)587-8243 Cell: (510)823-6367 Web Crew, http://www.hyannissound.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] having a rough day?-- http://www.hamsterdance.com having a rough day that is someone else's fault?-- http://www.dogdoo.com/ Enjoy... - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: MD Drive
Hey Folks, I'm getting a new computer at work (I'm an audio engineer/Producer) and I will be doing a lot of work with MD (Yay.) I need to get a drive that will allow me to rip MD's (To And From) at more than realtime. Anyone know much about what my choices are (for Mac or PC)? Re: MD: SB-Live Digi?
Jim, First off, thanks for the advice... My card is coming out of a relatively new gateway with an SBLive! card, and the reason I don't know much about it is because it isn't mine, I can't seem to find any other info on it in the device manager, I don't know what is actually coming out the back. I'm staying with friends and unfortunately I don't have any CD devices with me that have optical out. If I can get one from this computer, then I can make disks. I wouldn't mind I suppose getting some type of adaptor, but only if it is something that would be useful in the future. Do you know if one of the outputs is S/PDIF and might work with a converter, or any other outboard solution? I guess the bottom line is if I can find a way to do this that is cheaper than going out and buying some boombox, that's great. Since I'm only staying in my current place for a few months, I'm not really looking to buy a card for someone else's computer. Worst case situation, I'll just have to wait until I can make more MD's... :( Thanks again... -=James --- James Caran e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Current Res: 3242 Garfield Avenue, Alameda CA 94501 Phone: (510)523-6345 Cell: (510)823-6367 Web Crew, http://www.hyannissound.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] having a rough day?-- http://www.hamsterdance.com having a rough day that is someone else's fault?-- http://www.dogdoo.com/ Enjoy... MD: That little #$%^#!'N Battery Case
Greetings all, I am the owner of a wonderful little MZR-55, and I recently had a bag stolen (Ok, I left it in macy's and someone stole it...) :) The bag contained some of my minidisk accessories (Thank god I had my recorder in my pocket.) Most of it I have since replaced, with the exception of the great little plastic battery case that sony includes with the unit. This allows a AA backup when the rechargable goes dead, which is incredibly useful when I am recording since it burns batteries like crazy. I called sony and they wanted an outrageous amount of cash for it, I was expecting around $20 bucks, and I believe it was somewhere in the fifty range. We're talking about a little piece of molded plastic with two terminals and a screw... Does anyone know where a replacement can be found cheaply? I just can't in good faith give them that much for such an uncomplex and inexpensive thing. If there is not other way, I'm considering trying to make one myself, so I would appreciate any advice on that for the more technically endowed out there. Thanks for any advice. Thinking about how companies know when they gotcha, -=James --- James Caran e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] Current Res: 3242 Garfield Avenue, Alameda CA 94501 Current Phone: (510)523-6345 Voice Mail: (877)209-0747 Ext:1724 Acting Web Guy, http://www.hyannissound.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] having a rough day?-- http://www.hamsterdance.com having a rough day that is someone else's fault?-- http://www.dogdoo.com/ Enjoy... - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: Sony MZ-R55 Line out Levels
Hey there folks, I have a three week old Sony that I am extremely happy with, except for this oone little thing: The Line out leves are completely cranking. It actually started about a week after I got the unit, I have been using it constantly, recording with mics and using the optical cable. One day I was in my car, using a tape adapter coming from the line out (analog of course), I started getting distortions on a recording made optically that had not had problems in the past. I switched the plug to the headphone output, and then it was fine. Later at home, I tested the same line output with a stereo using an RCA cable and recieved the same hot distored signals. It wasn't completely distorted, but enough that it was quite noticable. One of the reasons I bought the damn Sony is because it had a separate Line out, so this is very annoying as you would probably imagine. Luckily, I bought the recorder at Circuit City, and got a three year guarantee from them. Before I go return/exchange my Sony, does anyone have an idea on why it is suddenly distorting? Thanks, and I hope all of you are enjoying your units as much as I am enjoying mine! (how's that for an ending thought?) ;) -=James --- James Caran e-mail:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Home: (516)423-8184 Univeristy of Vermont GRADUATE :) Acting Web Guy, http://www.hyannissound.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] having a rough day?-- http://www.hamsterdance.com having a rough day that is someone else's fault?-- http://www.dogdoo.com/ Enjoy... - To stop getting this list send a message containing just the word "unsubscribe" to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
MD: MZR37/55CG
Hello there folks, I need some input on the Sony MZR37. I am considering buying one and I want feedback on how important the "mic sensitivity switch", "jog dial" (that I suppose is obvious- ease of data entry), and "erase button" (you instead use the "delete" under the edit menu.) My primary purpose is live recording from a board and with mics on different occasions. Is it worth the extra $100 for these features? Thanks for the input... -=James --p.s.- I, as a soon to be minidisk recorder owner am very interested in the "End Search" debate. MD: Recording Live Audio/Computer loading
Hello everyone, I am new to the minidisk list. :) Yes, I have a couple of questions to pose for those of you that I suspect have more knowledge of this topic. I am looking heavily into a portable MD recorder. I have been looking on the net for days at different options, and my head is spinning. I would love if someone could suggest a model(s) for me. this is what I really want it to do: 1)To record live audio using a Stereo Mic (that is another thing I could use suggestions on...) 2)Load this audio onto my mac into Digital Performer and other audio programs for edit/additions. I have a mac G3 with firewire and USB connections, so I want to try to get a digital out. I haven't yet seen a portable with optical out. Even if I do, will this work with my computer? I have a decend amount of experience with general audio and computer audio, but this is my first minidisk endeavor. Any help would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. :) Nice to be here... -=James --- James Caran e-mail:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Summer: 110 Long Pond Drive, S.
