MD: Portable MD recorder for pro-ish use

2001-06-06 Thread Joost de Meij

[QUOTE]
The home deck then has the digital in and out for interfacing with
the editor. I'd have to be careful that my choice of portable has a digital
in, and adequate facilities for disabling any AGC, setting the record level
and so on.

Every Walkman has a digital in. No Walkman has a digital out.

I've you are a webbased mail user, you don't have to stay online. That's the
only reason i use the digest version...

MD: Things Sony should add

2000-09-17 Thread Joost de Meij

Hello, i've been thinking about some simple little things Sony might add to
their decks.

- With peak hold on, you can press the clear button to clear the peaks
- With sleep timer on, you should have a display option with a countdown
(Sleep: -29:13)
- Name Date stamp (Or just time on the display)
- Menu lock (when you don't want someone to make edits, or to change setup
options)
- A title that keeps scrolling on the display (just like my MD-MT15)

Do newer decks have any of these functions (i own a MDS-JE520)

Thanks.

MD: Karaoke plugin for WinAmp!

2000-08-16 Thread Joost de Meij

So now my question - is there any software that would allow a computer to
play a standard Karaoke disc? This would need to be complete with
graphics (and proper timing on the graphics!) and everything.

It might be cool to look for a WinAmp plugin, that automatically filters the
vocals from the song (MP3/WAV). It is at the AnalogX homepage
(WWW.ANALOGX.COM), and it is Freeware! It is very simple to use, but the
result is not always good. (It might filter the drums away...)

Since I'm a Microsoft Office user and also a Page Maker, Quarx and

I use Coverpro for my labels. It works very nice. You just insert an .BMP or

2000-07-18 Thread Joost de Meij

people don't necessarily want SCMS control just to STEAL music, it's
also because without it you can't even copy YOUR OWN stuff. And we
don't all have the budgets for pro equipment.
Maybe they should make a setting that when you make an analog recording, you
can set the SCMS-setting yourself. (Or only when you are making a recording
with a mic...)

Hi!

Just wondering if anyone knows how to change the scrolling message on the

How long do you have to wait before the scrolling message appears? And does
it has to be in stop mode? (I want to check if the 520 has this demo...)

MD: Subject: speed up problems?

2000-05-27 Thread Joost de Meij

I have a sony je510 and sony mz-e44 portable player.
Tonight while playing some punk rock
in my e44 the song was sped up super fast.
I was kinda into it! but that's kinda messed up.
It hasn't really touched my je510 (which is
victim to the auto turn on bug PLUS a loud
weird clicking noise) in a while, so I don't know
what could've caused it at all.

If the track was mono, there could have been some TOC error, so that the
track was played in stereo, just like the "Fast play" mode on some Sharp
walkmans... You could fix it with a TOC Clone. (I think)

2000-05-07 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi!

There is one answer to your problem though, you can use a Sharp
portable recorder to copy all the titles from one disc to
another. From the old Sharp MD-MS200 onward, Sharp portables offered
something called "moji-stamp" or "character-stamp" for copying all the
titles from one disc to another. You insert one disc, read the titles
off, insert the copy, and then have it write title titles onto the new
disc. Check the manuals for the exact procedure. The only requirement
is that you have the same number of tracks on both discs.

You could ofcourse clone the TOC to the copy MD, and you have the trackmarks
too. But i don't know for sure if the JE530 can do that...

MD: 520 stuttering

2000-03-19 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi!

My Sony 520 has just started skipping on playback of two consecutive =
(Maxell MD74) discs just recorded. The problem seems to be around the =
same spot on each disc though I'm not sure of this.
The effect is as though the disc is getting physically jammed and stops =
spinning, then momentarily frees itself and then jams again and =
so-forth. The countdown timer on the display also stops when the music =
stutters.Anyone seen anything like this before?

I didn't have any problems with them on my 520 jet... It might be something
with the plastic shutter or something...

MD: MiniDisc commercial

2000-01-28 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi all!

Sony also has MD advertising here in Spain, and I think it has helped - but
I've only seen it before movies. It shows 3 or 4 different folks doing all
sorts of wacked-out stuff with headphones on - some of it quite physical -
and then ends with a guy sitting at his desk recording an MD, popping it
out of the deck, and then dropping into his portable, labelled 'musica para
volar' (music for flying). He then gets funky with some pigeons and the
commercial ends with some voice over about your music (can't remember
exactly what the slogan is).

We also have this one in The Netherlands on the television.

MD: Timer recordings

2000-01-27 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi all!

On my 520, there is a switch for the timer position. If youhave it in that
position, and you connect a timer, it will record when you aren't there. I
haven't really experimented with it. THe instructions are a little vague.

Just set the start and ending time on the timer, then switch the 520-timer
switch record or play, and then plug the deck's power cable in the timer.
The 520 records the first track, and the timer ends the recording. When the
deck is powered again, it first saves the TOC, and then starts
playing/recording.

Bye, Joost.

Hi List!

i adjusted 6k, 14k, 12k, 16k, on the EQ, and then i could hear the REAL
noise.
I was very surprised. It sounded like a AM Tuner which was tuned between 2
stations.
This might be a sort of noise that comes from the spinning of the MD-Walkman
motor.

This might be a hint for everyone who does not hear anything special.

I still have it available on my site along with a pic of the waveform:
The original file: www.ozemail.com.au/~atrac/LoHorn.wav
The same file recorded on a 722: www.ozemail.com.au/~atrac/Horn722.wav

I downloaded both files, and played them in Winamp... The
first file (LoHorn) sounded fine, but when i played the
second file (Horn722), i almostly blew my speakers!!!
It sounded awfull! Only some clipping noise-thing
I hope this was something with the connection while
downloading or so

I recorded the French horn solo (first file) on my MD-MT15, and i
didn't hear any strange "clicks" or something.

to my amazement, this is the first time I've ever exceeded the limit. Just
wondered if anyone else had ever run out of space in normal use?

I recorded 130 minutes in mono on a 80 min MD. The tracks were all about
10/30 seconds (samples from TV/Radio), and some songs. And
i had about 180 tracks, and the 174th track gave the "Name Full!!"

does anyone have any experience with the sharp MT-15 portable recorder? i

pick up another unit to use as a player, and this one came up, so i fugired
why not get a back up recorder too. im wondering about battery life, atrac,
TOC errors, level control, basically anything pertinant to the unit. i know
its an older unit, but so's my sony, and its been bulletproof so far.

I posted this mail 2 days ago to the MD-LIST, but i'll post it again, 'coz i
hope
this is informative to you.

I got the MT15 some weeks ago, and i am very happy with it.
It has a good sound quality, all edit-functions (including name-stamp)
and Digital input, headphones out, and mic input. 24bit atrac, but
it comes without any accesoires (remote, adapter, battery).
The MT20 is about the same as the MD15, but it comes with all the
accesoires.. The recording level is adjustable.

1999-10-29 Thread Joost de Meij

Someone wrote:

HI!

anyone has this sharp MD-MT15H ? Is it good?

I just bought it last weekend. So far i had not any problems with it.
Excellent sound quality, and all edit functions. 24bit Atrac.
The only big difference between the MD-MT15 is that the MD-MT20 comes
with a adaptor, remote control, and a special battery, and the
MD-MT15 doesn't. But you can buy them later...

Bye, Joost. (don't mind my bad english, because i live in the

MD: JE510 SCMS bug

1999-10-28 Thread Joost de Meij

I read somewhere that there is a bug on a Sony MD deck (don't know
which one). You could try this:
Set your JE510 in recording pause mode, and let the source play.
Keep switching the sterio/mono switch, untill the "cannot copy" messa-
ge goes away, and then press play on the JE510.

I don't know if this works, because i own a JE520, and it didn't work
on it.

Bye, Joost (don't mind my bad English, because i life in the Netherlands).

I've looked over the minidisg.org 'hacking' area, but can't see anywhere
where I might find information on disabling the SCMS on Sony JE510.

MD: Rebate

1999-10-24 Thread Joost de Meij

[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I bought an MZ-R55 back in June and received there rebate package today
(Oct. 20th) in the mail. The rebate was for a cassette type adaptor for
car, a cigarette lighter adaptor, and 3 MD's. Well in the package I
received the 3 MD's and that was it! Does anyone have experience with
this rebate? Do the other items come separately from Sony? If not does

I bought my MDS-JE520 some months ago, and i had to get 4 MD's, some optical
cables, and a
battery (?). But the only thing i've got so far are the 4 MD's.

Bye, Joost.

Hi all!!

I bought a JE520 a couple of months ago, and i just read that the
newer recorders have a pitch control. Is it posible to add a pitch-
control to my 520? And how much will it cost?

Thanx!!!
Joost.

How is SCMS-information stored on CD's and pre-recorded MD's?

MD: SCMS hacking on 520 and MD-MT15

1999-01-17 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi all!

Now, on a 520 you can change the SCMS status of an existing recording;
it's
a slow, involved process, and I did it only once to see if it could be
done.
However, it works only on recordable MDs; if your source is an SCMS-final
CD or an SCMS-final premastered MD (if such things exist), it won't help.

I bought a 520 some months ago. How can i change the SCMS-status?

hey, anyone have any experience with sharp's md-mt15? or know an unbiased
review source?

I got the MT15 some weeks ago, and i am very happy with it.
It has a good sound quality, all edit-functions (including name-stamp)
and Digital input, headphones out, and mic input. 24bit atrac, but
it comes without any accesoires (remote, adapter, battery).
The MT20 is about the same as the MD15, but it comes with all the
accesoires..

MD: Discman-adaptor for MD-MT15 - ???

1999-01-17 Thread Joost de Meij

Hi all!
I recently bought a MD-MT15, and i have no adaptor for it. But i
have a adaptor for a Sony Discman.
Input: 220/230 V
50/60 Hz
6 Watt

Output: 4,5 V
500 mA

My portie has:

DC 2.4V(Nickel-metal battery) x1
DC 3V LR6(Size AA) x2

When i plug it in, it works for about 30 seconds, and then it comes
with a "POWER?" message, and stops working. When i put batteries
in it, and i plug the adaptor in, then it stops immediatly. Would
this hurd my portie?

Thanx, Joost. (Don't mind the HOTMAIL-AD below ;-) )
