Re: [MBZ] AC and ACC in 124
My current 87 300D has at least 300,000 -- odommeter broke at 236,000 about five years ago, estimated to have 60,000 additional miles before I got it, and I've put 12,000 on it since last September, so I'm guessing 310,000 or so. Re: [MBZ] Oil leak on CB750
Greg - You heard right. There is an upgraded head gasket kit available that will take care of the problem. The leak is around the knock pin (alignment dowel pin) at the oil passage from the cylinder to cylinder head interface. The new style gasket incorporates a rubber seal that does a better job of sealing as the parts expand and contract. I was the service manager at a local Honda M/C dealer in those years and remember this campaign well. They had made some manufacturing change in this time period that often caused leaking during warranty period requiring RR of head gasket under warranty. There were a number of these and Honda went through a few iterations of the head gasket before they arrived on a fix. It's been way too many years to remember all that transpired. I seem to remember the 500cc 4s having this to about the same time. Barry Date: Sat, 19 Jul 2008 11:50:29 -0500 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] From: Greg R. Could be the modulator is adjust to produce too high pressures. The adjust these correctly takes a combination of the right vacuum to the modulator, and the modulator adjusted to produce the right fluid pressures based on that vacuum. Re: [MBZ] Foam-free AC hose
To see if the accumulator (on the trans) is causing this, disconnect the vacuum line going to the accumulator.? Road test.? Each shift should come with a bang as you are simulating WOT.? If this is this true, you can adjust shift firmness to your liking. If you are happy with the speeds at which each gear changes, you can firm up the shifts by adjusting at the accumulator on the transmission.? Take the vacuum cap off and turn the screw clockwise no more than 1/8 of a turn, reconnect the vacuum, then road test.? It doesn't take much. ALWAYS make a reference mark and keep notes so you can get back to where you started. I did a hand pressure blue dye test on the fit between the fuel line and delivery valve and got a solid transfer. I placed the in-put fuel hose in a clear jug and ran the supply pump looking for bubbles and got none. It also passed the supply test of at least 8 oz in 15 seconds, which includes going through the pump filter and the main screw-on filter. I'm not sure if this is a clue or not, but I get very little return fuel. At idle I saw none, but I had left the line off during a test drive and it wet that area by the time I got back. I have ordered delivery valve springs and copper seals for my next try. Does anyone have suggestion on how a steady supply of air could get in? It sounded the best of the lot based upon your descriptions. Owned by an older fellow who had it serviced regularly if I recall correctly, reasonable miles on it for its age plus it is a Cadillac and therefore likely to be nicer than the Taurus etc. The other Caddy mentioned did not turn me on. My son has a friend who has a similar vehicle and although it is nice, if I were going to go Cadillac, I would prefer the more standard Sedan de Ville. Well Donald, I think the same. If Kaleb's MB does not work out, buy the big caddy, get a set of mounted longhorn horns, and mount them on the hood! You'd look right at home in Kaleb country! Most importantly, two hands on the saw at all times, unless the brake is locked, or better yet, turned off. I disobeyed this rule last month and came withing 2-3 inches of a kneecapectomy. As the saw dropped towards my leg, I tightened my grip on the rear handle to control it, which got me full throttle. Fortunately it was just my little 36cc Husqvarna and I managed to arrest its travel onehanded. Secondly, there's personal protection equipment. Trousers or chaps which can stop a chain as quickly as the chain brake, eye protection, ear protection, and if you cut standing timber a hard hat is a necessity. A video for your viewing pleasure. See how that chain goes through meat, ripping and shredding rather than cutting cleanly? Product #1 is their current six ply chap, #2 and #3 are products they no longer make, #4 looks to me like Stihl, and the blue chaps #5 just about have to be Husqvarna. All chaps stopped the saw quickly, but only #1 stopped it instantly. I went overboard and bought the ten layer chaps intended for use in saw racing competitions. In real life, the contact is less localized than in this test, I've seen examples of real life mishaps with Husky and Stihl chaps that didn't come close to cutting through the chaps. http://www.labonville.com/videos/v2.htm If you buy chaps, IMO they should wrap all the way around the lower leg. Most companies sell both half wrap and full wrap chaps. It seems like the favorite places to cut yourself with a saw are the left thigh or knee and the right calf. BTW, Labonville has 10% off on internet orders, use coupon code 4you at checkout. Turned my $79 Competition chaps into $71 chaps. Stihl chaps seem to be lighter/more flexible than the other brands' kevlar chaps. 1986 Mercedes 300E (has a few dents and dings) - don't know the mileage yet. or 1993 Cadillac Sedan Deville - perfect shape. Owned by 75 year old man who only had it worked on at the Cadillac Dealer - service records 106,000 miles I was going to post way earlier but I thought I would be laughed at for picking the Caddy. Low miles with service records is a big plus. Go to your local library and do an all data search for Technical Service Bulletins or at your former employer (GM shop). It is also a plus that you were a service manager at a GM shop, you have a better feel for GM cars. Re: [MBZ] Foam-free AC hose
The PO of my car had some pipe insulation like you get at Lowes on that pipe, held on with a couple of zip ties. I finally took it off, it was deteriorating after many years. Might not be the best stuff, but it seemed to be good enough, and cheap. Re: [MBZ] OT Small diesel engine fuel problem
I think that the injector might need rebuilding. Compression from the cylinder coming back into the injector because of a problem with the nozzle not shutting or spring pressure too low. Try taking one from one of the other engines you have and use it. Shouldn't take very long to do that. Manfred Date: Tue, 22 Jul 2008 11:58:56 -0500 From: Harry Watkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] I keep getting air at the middle injector nut during bleeding. The two outside injectors bled the air and only fuel comes out. This is a 3-cyl Mitsubishi and here is what I have tried. Replaced the delivery valve o-rings twice, once from my Harbor Freight box of o-rings, then I ordered and installed the OEM o-rings. I crack open the middle nut with the engine warm and running and the bubbles never stop. My biggest concern with the Cadillac is the 4.9 V8. With ever increasing gas prices, will the bottom of the market drop out on these cars and will everyone be afraid of anything that says V8? Yes. We are already seeing that with V8 MB's. Look what Kaleb's last two auto sales on eBay rendered price wise. A year ago they would have sold for double that. [MBZ] 123 Odo repair
Tonight I finally got around to taking apart the odo that Andrew sent me. Which reminds me I need to send him a check Anyway it looks like the metal wheel is loose on the shaft, I've taken it apart and of course lost the relative position of the wheels to each other. Regardless there only seem to be 1 that are different than the others, the miles and tens of miles wheels, the miles wheel is the first one after the metal wheel. The tens of miles wheel has a spring like thing in it which I think makes it next. I'd appreciate confirmation though... So I took the metal wheel and tried hitting on the hole with a flat blade screwdriver in an attempt to make it grab better. That accomplished just short of nothing. Instead I took a knife and cut some grooves in the shaft where that wheel goes which seems to have nearly gotten things working again though I need to do just a bit more before calling it fixed, I'm also thinking just a small drop of glue on the cleaned shaft will be my insurance policy... Once I'm convinced this one is fixed I'll pull the one out of my 240D and see if I can effect a repair there also. -Curt ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

I just drove it - I got out of a hearing later than I thought and I didn't really want to go back to the pile of work on my desk, so I drove over and took it for a spin. Now, the guy said he had to leave at 5:30, so I only got to drive it for 20 minutes or so. It was in perfect shape. Lots of power, no weird noises, no warning lights, no rust, great paint, spotless interior, etc. Even the power antenna still worked. I will wait have to wait and see what happens with the Kaleb car. Thanks Harry Date: Tue, 22 Jul 2008 11:58:56 -0500 From: Harry Watkins [EMAIL PROTECTED] I keep getting air at the middle injector nut during bleeding. I think if we had more public nekkidness there would be far less body dismorphic behaviour in our youth. All the plastic ladies and barbie girls would been seen as aberrations and the whole diet industry would come crashing down. Fellow SWMBA works with took the family to southern France this summer. Re: [MBZ] 123 Odo repair
Locktite on the shaft, applied with a bit of paper, works great -- I just fixed the original odometer for my 300D this way when my old one crapped out at 280,811 miles. Don't have to take it apart, either -- just push the shaft over as far as it will to, then push the wheels the other way as far as possible. Use a pointed slip of paper to apply a tiny amount of locktite to the shaft, then push it back to normal position and push the wheels to where they belong. Use a bit of rubbing alcohol on the shaft hole to keep it from locking up, and spin the speedometer drive with a matchstick while the locktite sets so the shaft won't freeze up, and you should be good indefinitely. I took the shaft out of the first one I did, never again. Re: [MBZ] [SL] R-12 or convert R134
The R134a conversion on my current 300D is working perfectly. In fact, I keep moving the temp wheel up because I'm freezing. Flush the condenser if you switch over, I think there is enough crud accumulated in most of them to reduce the cooling efficiency quite a bit. Won't hurt to make sure there aren't a couple pounds of smaxhed bug wings stuck between condenser and radiator, too. Curt, Can't help you on the wheel coordination as my fix, now going on 12 years, is to just get a drop of super glue on the tip of a toothpick and apply it to the shaft and gear hub that is loose.
