Re: [MBZ] My 300SD on The Americans
It's an awesomely realistic and suspenseful series with great acting and reasonable plot lines about a pair of Soviet KGB agents embedded in the USA, who proceed to have kids and live the American lifestyle in suburban DC. They do a great job pretending to be Americans, but as luck would have it a crack FBI agent and his family move into the house next door... I believe it's on FX. I missed the final episode of last season's series and haven't watched it recently. Kerry Russell is awesome as te female KGB agent, and the actor who plays her husband is no less chilling... This is an awesomely beautiful day here. Went out on a fundraiser kayaking event this morning, had a dolphin escort for a little ways, right next to my boat, which was pretty incredible. Then to my neighbor's for a barbecue with a local pig and produce from their farm (the strawberries are seriously to die for). Local island band the Butterbeans played tunage. Re: [MBZ] Fw: All alone
True, however, in my case every stinking gap/hole/opening in the house has been sealed and verified with a blower door test, which was done last fall and passed with flying colors. In fact, the guy that did it said my house was one of the tightest he had ever tested. Attic ventilation exceeds spec as well, with about 10% more than specified in the way of soffit and roof vents. Your point is well taken, however, as a lot of my research turned up a rather heated debate in the HVAC community over the use of (powered) attic vents. Most of those arguments revolved around the house envelope not being properly sealed. This was my motivation for doing it, and I believe I saw results from it almost immediately. Last year in the period of July through September we had nearly the same number of heating degree days as the year before, and during the same period last year my electric bill (AC) dropped on average about 20% during that time. I would attribute the drop to sealing the house and the installation of a Nest thermostat earlier in the year. [MBZ] GL transfer case
I curse the person who came up with the driveshaft connection on these things. It's easy to get to, but impossible to get the rear drive shaft to clear the transfer case. I buggered but the end cap that holds the grease in when removing it. Got it bend sort of straight and was able to get it back on the driveshaft. Anyway, I got a used care off eBay out of a 09 GL with 70k miles. When it arrived it looked almost brand new. Got it wrestled back into place, ended up having to drop the drive shaft center support mount to get just enough slack to get the shaft back connected to the case. Got it all put back together and took it for a drive. No more bad grinding/rattling under acceleration. I was worried I was going to pick up some drive shaft vibration but I took it up to 60 and seems smooth. I sure as hell do not get why they changed to these star type bolts, thru just seem cheap to me plus I had to get a new set of sockets for these. Now on to the next project. I have a good feeling this was what was wrong with Wilts sons car. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com All posts are the result of individual contributors and as such, those individuals are responsible for the content of the post. Yahoo and a couple of other lesser mail service providers made changes to their systems related to security at that time. As a result they are bouncing stuff left and right, not just here, but everywhere. I see some fairly high level reporting on internet and mail traffic as a part of my job, and I can say that the situation has gotten visibility up to Federal levels. As soon as I see a bounce notice I fix it. It may take me a little while during the work day, since my employer does prefer that I work. As for some of the recent weirdness of late, that's an issue with your ISP. I traced Larry's situation all the way back to his service provider, and up to their threshold things were normal. If you're getting bounce notices or unsub notices due to excessive bounces, drop me a note directly and I'll look into it. Just wanted to mention for the sake of those on the digest: Everyone please try and trim your posts. I just looked at some digests and they were a couple of messages and the rest was replies, etc. I don't really know what's best or the proper protocol as far as top posting/bottom posting, whatever, but when you do reply take a moment and trim any extraneous replies, footers, etc. off the message if possible. [MBZ] OT - Sondy Tale
Yep, another silly Sondy Tale: THE RUN TEST By Wilton Strickland The day after I returned to Sondy from a two-week leave in June, '78, the non-commissioned officer in charge (NCOIC) of overseeing our Air Force-required annual physical performance test told me that a staff sergeant (E5) who worked for me and I were the only military members on base who had not completed the test, everybody else having done so while I was away. The test required us to walk and/or run two miles (I think it was 2 miles, may have been 1½ miles) in eleven minutes or less depending on our age. We arranged to do the test the following morning. Meanwhile, for much of the afternoon and next morning, the sergeant, who would be doing the test with me, taunted me (good-naturedly at first, but it quickly got old) about how he was going to make me eat his dust, or I would see only his back, and I'm gonna leave you way behind. At 44, I was six or seven years older than the sergeant, but I soon decided that it would be a cold day Hell when he passes me, but I never said a word - just let him continue to have his fun, though it did begin to be a little annoying and bordering on insolence, and I could easily have told him to shut the Hell up, but I would have instantly regretted it. Immediately as we began the test, we were both walking at a somewhat brisk pace as I led the way. As we progressed along the route, though, the sergeant was constantly picking up the pace in an effort to pass me. As I heard his footsteps and breathing getting a little closer behind me, though, I continued to accelerate, until, finally, we were both running at full gallop, but I held the lead and completed the test in front of him - never saw him anywhere in front of me. I must say, of course, that I was not really physically able to have done it normally; I did it on shear determination and will alone. If he had not taunted me so about it before the test and turned it into a race and a test of wills, I would have finished the test way behind him, and it would not have mattered at all. Before his taunts, I had nothing to prove and nobody to impress, but after his mouthy taunting, I sure as Hell wasn't gonna let 'im pass me. Rather than tell 'im to shut the Hell up, and embarrass myself, I never said a word - I shut 'im up the best way I knew and saved my honor and reputation in the process. Neither of us ever mentioned it to the other again, and I've never mentioned to anybody else until now. Larry, what's the latest on the evapectomy? Did I miss anything yesterday? Wilton - Original Message - From: Larry Turner l02tur...@comcast.net To: mercedes@okiebenz.com Sent: Friday, May 02, 2014 1:00 PM Subject: [MBZ] W124 Evaporator RR Hi All - I started this project this morning and after approx 5 hours I have the dash and console out. Actually I started yesterday evening but I am counting those hours. No big surprises except the air passages on each side of the evap were difficult to break loose. Also, it took a while to become comfortable working with stuff I have never worked on before. I found the directions from Wilton and PeachParts forum to be very helpful but a few things have changed since the 87 they used as an example. Not hugely different from my 91 W124, but enough to make it interesting. I came in to take a rest and research the details of pulling the HVAC box from the dash to minimize the problems. Thanks again to those who took the time and effort to put their experience in writing - it was/is _*very *_helpful! I think I broke a couple of the clips that hold parts into the dash but those are minor problems. For a job that has a flat rate of 14-17 hours I believe I am pretty close to schedule considering I have ni experience doing this.
