2017-11-03 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Max: I resealed the dual pump on the 124 TE. I am fixin ta reseal the
PS pump on the 81 240D.
Resealing a single pump should not be that hard. Fastest to buy a
rebuilt or used pump.

How I'd reseal the Single PS pump: Remove the old seal, take it to the
local bearing supply (Motion Industries?) and buy 2-3 replacements.
Probably only $3 each or so. Buying 2-3 insures that the first one
will go in right. If you buy only one, you may need to go back and buy
a second. You may need a oring or 2 to rebuild the pump. The same
place will have the orings too. A single pump is a simple reseal.

Max and Larry:

Cardone: They are the only place that rebuilds a brake booster for
107. I put one in 9 yrs ago and it is still good. +1 for that. I
think they are reputable for the PS pump too and i'd trust 'em. USA

Yes, that's what it looks like to me, too.

I'm in a similar situation, with a power steering pump on our 1990 E300D
that's leaking. I have the choice of replacing all the seals (assuming
the pump is really good) or buying a new pump. I have found a seal kit
for about $18 and an A1CARDONE pump for about $70.

Is the A1CARDONE pump a reliable one, or should I just reseal the one I
have? Of course, if the A1CARDONE pump is reliable, that would be an
option for Larry, too.

Larry,

That looks to me like a complete break of a tab on the body of the
pump, so

you'd need to replace the entire pump. A used pump would probably be a
good bet. If your pump is a single circuit and not a dual circuit like a
car with SLS or ASD, then they are pretty common. I suspect that just
about any pump from a 124, 201, 202, or 210 car would work, although you
may need to move your reservoir over to the "new"pump and change the
pulley.

The bracket broke next to the spin-on fuel filter. I have attached a

Any idea if the material can be welded? I have electric arc and a

Hey gang,

Had a unpleasant surprise this morning when my wife was going to run

thought the belt may have broken even though it looked good when I
checked it recently. We found the bracket that holds the PS Reservoir

Well, I finally got the timer in. I cut a new "tool" out of 30 ga tin,
then RTFM, which sez to take out the upper pin for the lower chain guide
below the vac pump. I had missed/forgotten that step. With the thinner
tin and with the last pin out, the timer slid right in. (Like the book
sez it will)

Parts order from Tom H. should be in soon. Tomorrow I will make sure
everything works right without interference while turning it over a few
times, check/set der falfe clearance, put in the oel pump, pan etc. the
see if I can get the IP to line up in the right spline.

Or did you just want pictures of his PTK or whatever it is?

At nearly a buck a round, I could never own something like that. Every time I
pulled the trigger I would see a dollar bill going down range.

[MBZ] 300CD

2017-11-03 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
I went over to the barn this afternoon to take a look at the CD and take
some pics for Kleb.  Battery was sorta flat, glowed but would not crank
much, swapped another one in, it fired off right away after sitting for
maybe a month.  Idle smoothed out after a minute, I drove it out of the
barn into the sun and took pics. For some reason the key wouldn't turn
the button to open the trunk this time, it worked before, the lock might
be a bit goobered. I'll take some lube over and work on it.  The key is
not original so it might be that.  There are 2 other keys the guy gave
me but they are different from the one that works the ignition so not
sure what they are from, they wouldn't work the trunk either.

I looked the car over again, it is really nice and runs well. The brakes
were a bit tight, I need to take off the wheels and see what is going on
with them, i don't think they're seized but not sure.

I'll try to post pics of it and the E$500 dizzel. y'all can bid them up!

Re: [MBZ] PS Bracket

Thanks Max,

I'll see what I can find.   I have ABS but no ASD or SLS so hopefully
that will normalize the search a bit.  I started looking yesterday but
haven't found anything yet.  The ads are either so vague that I can not
be sure the part will fit or so precise that I am sure it will /not
/fit!  It's frustrating looking for a odd part like this = had the same
problem when we were troubleshooting the GP Wiring Harness and I looked
for a replacement harness.  No such luck!  ;-)

Oh well, just what I needed - another project to test my knee.

Thanks for the suggestion Max,  I am looking far and wide.

That looks to me like a complete break of a tab on the body of the pump, so
you'd need to replace the entire pump. A used pump would probably be a
good bet. If your pump is a single circuit and not a dual circuit like a
car with SLS or ASD, then they are pretty common. I suspect that just
about any pump from a 124, 201, 202, or 210 car would work, although you
may need to move your reservoir over to the "new"pump and change the pulley.

Re: [MBZ] PS Bracket

2017-11-03 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Larry,

That looks to me like a complete break of a tab on the body of the pump, so
you'd need to replace the entire pump. A used pump would probably be a
good bet. If your pump is a single circuit and not a dual circuit like a
car with SLS or ASD, then they are pretty common. I suspect that just
about any pump from a 124, 201, 202, or 210 car would work, although you
may need to move your reservoir over to the "new"pump and change the pulley.

Interestingly the mascot of the school is the "Ichabod." It was named after

Re: [MBZ] Cold air intake

2017-11-03 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
Find the biggest truck air filter you can fit in the space, then build a
box for it. Remember many trucks used to have a big vertival air
filter mounted outside the cab in the cowl area. You could do a crazy
Finn thing and mount it outside the body.

Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes
November 3, 2017 at 5:12 AM
So I have done a lot of math on the air required, in order to select the
proper turbos. I had the compound exhaust manifold welded up by a guy in
finland with a 124 clip and a 606 in his shop, so it fits in my engine
bay.

I have the speed sensors installed in the turbos and an aem aq1 to log all
the temperatures and pressures. Basically at 17:1 AFR I will need 80lb/min
of air at 5500 rpm and 120cc of fuel per injector per 1000 injections.
This

is about double the stock fuel. The stock afr is more than 17:1, so my air
requirement would be slightly less than double the stock turbo 606 motor.
More if I turn the pump up to 150cc.

The intake system is the only thing holding me back at the moment. I
need a

cold air box with a big filter and I need a NA 606 manifold and cross pipe
to weld some laminova cores into for intercooling. I will run air water
heat exchangers in the wheel wells as they are easier to fit with an air
conditioner condenser and fans than the air-air. People usually sacrifice
the AC on these setups, but I am keeping it.

Cheers,

The turbo-charged engine _will_ pump more air through.

However, normally aspirated _engine_ is "sucking" the air through
the filter so filter size and restriction can be quite important.

Conversely, on the turbo-charged engine, it is the _turbo_ that is
"sucking" the air through the filter. The only time the filter
size really matters is at high RPM, and that is when the turbo is
"throwing away" extra air via the waste-gate.

I have a later style w124 fender on the wagon with a cold air intake vent.
I would like to use it for that. Currently I just have a cannister filter
sitting inside the fender, rather than the little plastic fitting with the
round hole that seals on the inside of the fender and feeds the stock
airbox. I guess I will try to buy the seal plate from mercedes.

I suspect that the na606 filter from the 1995 e300d is a bit under
size for

my fuel level on the turbo 606 motor however, so perhaps I need to fab
something up and use the stock fender seal plate to feed a hose going to a
larger box.

Seems like maybe a 603 turbo filter would be bigger than a na606
filter. Is

the 603 filter box larger than the na606 box? And where does the 603 box
draw air from? The headlight? And is it wedged in behind the headlight
like

the na606 box?

Thanks

However, normally aspirated _engine_ is "sucking" the air through
