Replace the foam - the new part has been improved so it's now rubber that
won't rot so quickly. If that fails to solve the problem, swap in another
PB ACC moduie.

BTDT. It can look good but function imperfectly. Get an OEM monovalve

Nope. In their world all those things, including the costs of customer
dissatisfaction, and even lost customers, come out of a "different
budget". Visionaries should be in charge of companies, not accountants.

Whoa! If the decision is made by a bean counter, Curt gets screwed.
You've gotta know who ultimately decides the value of the position.
While we all know and believe Curt is high value to them, or should be,
none of us know who ultimately judges the value of the position to the
company. Maybe Curt does. Even if his boss is 100% good with any
price because he understands the investment they have in Curt, and the
value he provides to the company, some schmuck bean counter, maybe even
a consultant, not even an employee, might be the one who says "cut the
cord" "We can hire some 20 yr old kid to do this."

Bean counters don't value institutional knowledge, relationships,
training costs, etc.. They ask themselves if they can fill the position
for less money. They cause immense damage to companies.

Failure to regulate a proper temperature is usually due to a rotted foam
hose under the dash. Hardware store pipe insulation may be used to replace
the rotted-out segment.

On that system, the common failure points, in no particular order:

1) Torn monovalve diaphragm
2) Cracked solder joints inside the pushbutton unit.
3) Rotted foam hose going to the cabin temperature sensor.

[MBZ] New Heater Question was Re: Monovalve Static test out of the car?

2017-11-28 Thread Mike Esh via Mercedes

The heat in my 85 300D is difficult to regulate each time I start out.  If I
have the temp regulator set for anything other than all the way cold it blows
major heat until I rotate the regulator all the way to cold, then wait for it
to blow cold.  After doing that I can regulate temp pretty well although it
seems like the temp is set way to cold on the regulator.  Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Mike
p.s.  Sold the 84 300D vegoil vehicle and all equipment for $500.00. Original
price of vehicle was also $500.00.  It was not running well, very low power.
The rear cylinder compression was low.  After testing, I determined it was not
a valve issue.  Oil in the cylinder during the recheck and compression
returned.  So glad to have room in the garage again!  After all expenses I
think I saved over $5000.00 over the life of the vegoil project.

Re: [MBZ] BAT 300CD

2017-11-28 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I will say this - it’s fun for the first year or two, at least it was for me.
Starting in year 3 or 4 it started being a PITA, because there would be stuff I
would miss with the kids or things I wanted to to do that I just couldn’t
because I wasn’t around.

In my case I was lucky in the sense that I could schedule a lot of my travel
myself, so it made it a little easier as I could try and spread things out.
However, I still had “black bag jobs” that came up with no warning that I
didn’t have a right of refusal on. When I got the call from our Travel
Department that a limo was picking me up in two hours to take me to O’Hare for
a flight to G-d knows where everything came to a screeching halt and I had to
pack.

That part sucked, and the contract work we did overseas for the government
sucked, too. Those were jobs where we would have to go and be there for 3-4
weeks at a time to support government contracts. Those of you who have worked
overseas, (Grant) especially in second and third world countries know what I’m
talking about. A four day work week if you’re lucky, with a work ethic that
would get done in several days something that you could accomplish here in an
hour or two. And no use trying to push the locals, as they wouldn’t have any
of it. Adapt to their pace or die. Grr.

Is there any easy way to test a monovalve out of the car to check the
diaphragm?

12V on and off will prove the magnet and slide (thunk, or no thunk)

But is there a way so see if the valve Functions?

Since the fail mode is heat only at highway speeds, then if you can't
blow through it in either position, it is probably bad.

This provides an indication, but is there a way to prove it good? (
Bad=bad   Not bad≠ good)

acting in self-defense when he fatally shot the owner of a Shawnee gun store,”
The Kansas City Star reported Monday. “De’Anthony Wiley is charged with felony
first-degree murder in the January 2015 killing of Jon Bieker.”

Per prior testimony, four predators invaded the She’s a Pistol gun store in
Shawnee, pointed guns at Bieker’s wife Becky and punched her unconscious. Her
husband rushed out from a back room, saw his wife on the floor and opened fire,
hitting three, including Wiley.

concealed carry permit. Surprisingly I got it with no restrictions on my first
try. The local chief of police is the final arbiter of the permits and
apparently Winchendon is one of the more difficult towns to get a no
restrictions LTC (license to carry) in.
To ensure things went smoothly I tried to exceed the requirements of the
permit:1. A safety course is required, we took a live fire safety course in
which I scored top of the class. Actually I tied Angie for top.

2. References are required, I submitted letters of reference.
3. I joined a local shooting range
4. I joined the NMLRA (National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association
You have to put a reason, I wrote "I often take long walks in the wild and
require a firearm for protection." The walks at least are true, I've never had
any real trouble and I'm sure a gun would ensure that I didn't.

Anyway, looks like it worked. I've consistently held that I didn't want to
carry but now I'm thinking something in a small .357 might be nice. I've got a
Ruger Blackhawk .44 Mag but with a 10 inch barrel its tough to conceal...

Re: [MBZ] Rattle rattle rattle under the hood

2017-11-28 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Here's the thread that taught me about these:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/365376-alternator-pulleys-101-clutch-type-one-way-pulleys-2.html

The major downsides include expense, requirement for more tools, and the
clutched pulley can fail catastrophically and leave you stranded (they seem
to have a service life of about 50k miles?).

Looks like Importec has the best price ($37) for the Ina clutch. FCP Euro
sells the special splined tool for about $7, but I'll need to see if my
Hazet bit for the OM603 head bolts is a M10 XZN to go with that, else I'll
have to pay another $47 for the Hazet tool kit with both splined bit and
M10 XZN.

Here's a couple videos to show how smooth they make the belt run at idle:
