[MBZ] Re ML 722.6 results

2020-04-09 Thread ned kleinhenz via Mercedes
Larry:
Sounds like the same problem I had a few years ago with my 06 E320CDI with
the same model transmission.
The conductor plate in the transmission was faulty. It is located where it
can be replaced from underneath the car. If you remove the transmission
oil pan and filter, the conductor plate is the assembly bolted to the
transmission from underneath by a half-dozen or so bolts. When these
problems develop, the electrical connector plug to the transmission is
usually replaced too. I decided to have an MB dealer make this repair
because they have the electronic programming equipment needed to make the
new parts function.

I’ve seen it with some consistency at Publix and even WallyWorld. There’s not
usually a lot of it and they limit you to one package, but it’s out there. If
you go to the store first thing in the morning it’s more likely to be there.

Try the dollar stores. I've found they generally have it. It'll be some
brand you never heard of but better than nothing.

Best I can figure is that the people who normally shop there don't
generally have enough money to buy more than they really need. And the
people with income to support hoarding TP at ridiculous levels don't
normally shop at dollar stores so it doesn't occur to them to go there.

Good to know. The current economic climate is really going to put a damper on
the sale of the SEA house. As luck would have it, I have two Costco size packs
of both TP and paper towels. That will no doubt keep the purchase price in
line with sales last summer.

I wonder if I get a price boost for including the two boxes of latex gloves (5
and 7 mil) used to work on the car, along with the six pack of paper shop towel
when the SL goes on the block?

I had understood that the commercial grade, with slivers included, is being
repurposed as PPE fabric mask liners. The darn instructions seem to changed
day by day, so SWMBA has stopped making them. Still demands a person put one
on to be seen in public spaces. I much prefer to walk the dog in the stinking
cold with mucus oozing from my drippy nose. That creates the perfect
opportunity for social distancing, as people cross the street or go down a cul

Oh, that's the end of the TP, better buy a couple more next time
there's a good sale.

Then, within a week, empty shelves.
That pic I sent, showing 6 twelve packs of store brand imitations of
my preferred xtra strong Charmin?

Yep, one of those six went home with me at full price.

So I'm set for 2-3 months now.
Next problem is distilled water.
Back in January I bought enough to feed the CPAP humidifier through
tax season. Tonight I'm opening the last gallon. Haven't seen any
distilled water on the store shelves in about 3 weeks.

That does look like a good idea! I have one of these on the Cessna -
https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/eppages/safOilDrainValves_06-00637.php
which makes an oil change on it easy - push up and rotate and the oil comes
out. The oil in the Cessna gets changed more often than the truck, so even
at the inflated aircraft price it is worth it.
The truck with it's once a year oil change (~ 7,000 miles) is questionable
for spending money on replacing the drain plug, but I think you could find
the parts for even less.

Re: [MBZ] OT guns on sale too!

2020-04-09 Thread Andrew Strasfogel via Mercedes
Consumer-grade Toilet paper and paper towels are sold out because demand
has gone up. This is because so many people are not using those products in
the office. And it's not as if the manufacturers of office grade paper
products can retool for the consumer Market.

2020-04-09 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes
I can see how people might want guns or ammo in times like these, but
why is TP  & paper towels being sold out all over town?

BTW, If considering an AR, think about this:  While 223's are less
expensive that most other center fire rifle bullets, they still can't
compete with 22LR's.   I also have a 22LR conversion kit for my AR which
makes shooting it much more economical to shoot.

Mostly used on inboard or I/O boats but no reason why it could not be

fittings or drill and tap the plug if it is big enough and suck the oil
out from the drain plug using a connection to a hose that terminates

Re: [MBZ] ML 722.6 results

2020-04-09 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes

Dan -
Sounds like I need to find a SDS somewhere around here.  Are they dealer
only?
I am having shifter problem than is a little different m than the one
described. My 06 E350 will some days be fine (for a while) then stop
shifting out of 1st or 2nd  (which ever one it start in).  The
Comfort/Sport indicator also goes blank.
When it does this it cannot be shifted into R or P.  To turn the car off
we turn the key to off, then put it in P.  Then when we re-start, it
will work for a while.

I assume the SDS is a little more than $29.95?

Thanks,
LarryT

The SDS would not only show you the codes, you could see the WIS as it

exactly what and when the faults are occurring. You can also run
diagnostics on some systems, such as turning a particular component on
and off manually to see what’s happening.

I’ve never had to do a conductor plate myself, but it sure sounds like yours is
toast based on what you describe.

out for a spin. Was running a bit rough but I had disconnected the battery so
maybe that was the issue.

Transmission seemed stuck in 2nd or maybe 3rd, would not shift, would not
accelerate very well. Engine was running fine though. I pulled the OBD codes
again and got the same ones plus a couple showing cylinder misfires, not sure
what that was about.

P0758 Shift Solenoid B Electrical Circuit Malfunction

P0763 Shift Solenoid C Electrical Circuit Malfunction

I'm guessing this might now be related to the conductor plate or maybe the
solenoids are bad though I don't think they would all gakk at once. I guess
I'll order a new conductor plate, or at least pull the one that is in there and
see if anything looks wonky. Or might it be the TCM is fried? Would the Fancy
Computer be able to see more detail about what is going on? Something
electrical clearly, and same codes as before I fooled with the connector.

Perhaps with the caliper still in/near the car, the brake line is still
attached, thus blocking that hole and allowing the bleeder hole connection

Suggest you try it. On the first go round, suck oil out from the

Re: [MBZ] OT = On topic 124/OM602 overheating

2020-04-09 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes

Hello All -
Back when I had the car, I replaced the Rad when the upper nozzle
broke.  At that time I cleaned between the rad & the condensor so that
should still be clean.

One thing about the T'Stat - 1st one I bought was right catalog # but it
was too small (or vice versa) so I got the right one and all was well.
That doesn't mean it didn't fail soon after I started using it.  I also
put a new Fan Clutch on.  But at one point, I had cooling issues and I
replaced everything assoc w/the cooling - at least the front of engine
components.

I also noticed the Aux fans only seemed to run when the AC was on - I
thought that might be the way it was supposed to run. IAC, as Curley
found, when AC  is on the Aux fans work and Temp is not a problem.

Hopefully, by now Curley has found / fixed the problem.

I hope everyone is staying healthy in these times...

Just driving around town at 75 deg F, with no AC running, the car should
not need the aux fans running.

I disagree, you've got evidence that the t-stat is failed. They can fail
right out of the box!

In your place, I would remove the front bumper and the fan shroud and clean
out the leaves and bugs between shroud and condenser, pull the radiator and
clean between radiator and condenser, spray your garden hose through both
while you have it all apart, and then pull the t-stat and check it for
function.

Here are the specs from MB:

OM601, 602.91, 603.91: begin opening @ 85 +/-2 deg C, minimum stroke 8mm @
94 deg C

If the AC refrigerant has leaked down, then only the high speed function of
the aux fans will work.

that sensor is unplugged, the fans are intermittent.

If the R134a has leaked out, would the low pressure switch cause the
fans not to run? Seems to me that the fans should be independent of
the a/c, but obviously they are linked at the drier. Fans should run
when the A/c is off.

Re: [MBZ] Stuck calipers

2020-04-09 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I mean, if you're pumping grease into the bleed fitting, don't you need
to have the hydraulic line fitting blocked also? Otherwise I'd think the
grease/fluid will take the path of least resistance and come out there
rather than pushing out the piston.

Re: [MBZ] Beer virus

2020-04-09 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
Amazon now offers shipping for other than their own sales? I didn't know
that.

A couple of weeks ago I was going to order something from Amazon, they
were projecting nearly 30 days for delivery because virus.

Ordered the same thing from walmart.com and had it in a few days.

I canceled Prime a while ago because they often failed to meet their
"guaranteed" free 2-day deliveries, and all I ever got was a "sorry,
it's on the way." Interesting use of the word "guarantee", I guess it
must apply to "free" and not to "2-day".

I bought Agri-Mectin from an eBay vendor Sunday, guaranteed delivery by
Thursday, ships from Springfield IL. They used Amazon for shipping. So
instead of coming from their store stock in Illinois, it came from
Amazon's combined stocks in FT Worth.
After meandering about in the Texas heat for a couple of days, it was in
Georgia this AM. Not here as "guaranteed". And internet stock has
disappeared, so I can't just refuse delivery and order from somebody
else.

Fortunately it's not very heat sensitive, but I keep it for 3 years and
throw 90% of it away and I don't want to give up a year or two of shelf
life (or worse yet have it go ineffective while I'm using it and have my
dog get heartworm again) due to it possibly sitting in a parking lot in
95 degree Texas weather.

I have a call in to Agri Labs to find out how much heat the stuff can
withstand.

Shouldn't have to. Assuming the caliper is full of fluid you'd be introducing

Re: [MBZ] Stuck calipers

2020-04-09 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
I used to hit the hydraulic line fitting with a rubber tipped air nozzle
after stuffing shop rags in front of the piston.

But with multi piston calipers that only gets the easiest piston out.
Sometimes I'd get the easy piston done, put it back together, put a
clamp on it and try to blow the stuck piston out but half the time it
would be stuck too firmly to remove with air.

I assume you also need to plug the brake line fitting?

Re: [MBZ] Parasitic Draw

2020-04-09 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes
Just to complicate things, some cars like the 06 E350 MB I have been
struggling with, have an auxiliary battery - I removed the primary
battery for 6 weeks or more and the radio stations were remembered.

When doing a parasitic draw test, should I also disconnect the Aux
Battery?  I put a test light in series with the neg cable/post and
pulled all fuses 1 by 1 and the light never even flickered.

Thx,

I'd say this is normal. The clock, for one, always draws power. As others
have noted the computer(s) will draw some current when first connected. That
draw will decrease as the computer powers up and gets its act together. It
probably sits in some kind of standby mode until activated by turning the key
on.
Your mention that it doesn't kill the battery reinforces my thought that its
normal. It probably will kill the battery eventually but it'd probably be hard
to tell that from the battery just going flat as it would anyway if you left it
alone long enough...

May I thicken the plot? I was so enthusiastic about this new-found
knowledge, I decided to apply it to a second car, a 91 Volvo (also)240,
because whenever I apply the negative cable to the battery post on that car
I also get a small spark. That has never resulted in a dead or weak battery,
although that car sometimes sits unused for periods of time. Sure enough,
the 12 v test light bulb went on. However, it faded out after about one
second. By repeated tests, I learned that after removing the test light, it
takes about 10 or so seconds for it to recover. If I re-connect the test
light right away, the bulb will not light up. Does this provide some clue as
to what the electricity stealing culprit might be?

Minor issue - I did not know that pictures could be attached to these
submissions. Is there a set of instructions to follow to submit a photo?

Re: [MBZ] Stuck calipers

2020-04-09 Thread Larry Turner via Mercedes

Hey Curley,
I had a similar problem.  I read somewhere I could hook up a chassis
grease pump thingie into the bleed valve hole.   I found it screwed in
easily and a few pumps of the grease pump handle and the puck slowly
walked out.  I had to clean the small amount of grease that remained but
it was less trouble than I thought it would be.

Hydraulic action is a powerful force!

Let me know how this works for you, I used it on 2 or 3 calipers.

Re: [MBZ] Standard Beetle on BAT

2020-04-09 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
This was in northern Maine. Thinking ahead is not a strong suit.
I started going on hunting trips up there with my dad when I was 13, so about
30 years ago. The first year I went there was a house where they built a
garage. That first year they put up the outside of the garage and put the roof
on. On our return from camp we joked because they had already filled the garage
but never put the siding on.
When we went up last fall we guffawed because 30 years later the garage is
still full of crap and still has no siding...
