I guess time is not of the essence in the upper levels of the public health
community.
For contrast, an Air Force mishap investigation had to be complete in 30 days.
At least that was the rule when I was still in uniform.

[MBZ] My New Acquisition

2020-07-06 Thread Kevin Kraly via Mercedes
Hello everyone! The car is at home in the driveway thanks to a free AAA tow
although I think she could have made it home under her own power! My friends
and I got there, yanked out the dead group 49 battree, installed the new one I
purchased from NAPA on the way and lit her off with barely a chirp of the
starter It vibrates due to bad motor mounts, but it runs on all 4!! The
lady said that it got a new transmission last year, and by the way it shifts
into reverse with only a half second delay, I believe it! Since there were no
ominous noises in the drivetrain rolling it back and forth, we decided to take
it around the block. It ran pretty well other than a harsh 1-2 shift, and it
seemed to shift well into 3rd. The only sound I heard was one of the rear rotor
back plates rubbing agains the rotor which must have been the “gnarly sound”
she heard while driving during its last trip into town. I don’t hear any diff
whining at 30MPH or under, but I’ll know more once we get her up to highway
speed. Now, I really don’t want to part it out since it’s too good for that.
The front seats are pretty broken down just like those in Hildegard, but the
body seems at least as good. I now have 2 240D’s, and this one was half as much
money at $750!

For some reason we as a society have decided it makes sense to pay the bulk of

Droplets, spit, snot -- yes a mask will obviously contain that.

Aerosolized virus particles, probably not. It would be like trying to
contain mosquitoes with chicken wire. If that turns out to be how the
virus spreads, a typical "cloth mask" will be basically useless.

It's my guess that in the end we'll conclude that basic hygiene (washing
hands, not picking your nose, covering your coughs, staying home if
you're sick) will be about the best we can do. A large number of people
are bad at this. I suspect a large number of nursing home workers are
shockingly bad at this.

I'll bet you a dollar they don't, because they know the truth.

If the master cylinder piston doesn't go ALL the way to the top,
the port where fluid gets in from the reservoir will be covered
and no fluid will ever get in to deal with clutch wear or leaks.

It might take compressing the piston a bit to get it all in there,
but the rod should not be tight - ie, it should not be pushing the
piston in at all.

Yea, I figured.  On a flipper I might go with cheap parts. But on the

Re: [MBZ] Masks

2020-07-06 Thread Clay via Mercedes
Another stupid Humans Trick;

Woman from SWMBA office delivered a child minus kidneys about 29 months ago.
Long hassle to get a donor, but one was found, then the plague hit, and
elective medical treatment goes out the window. More dialysis for the baby
ensues until transplant center in CA opens back up. Flights out of ANC are
booked and baby, with family, head south.

Alaska Airlines demands usage of masks on all flights. Misbehave and you will
be given a yellow card and banned from future flights indefinitely. Parents
have all masked up and kid is as well. Other passengers are wearing masks.
Until the morons come over and remove masks and start talking to the kid. Kid
is supposedly cute, and this alleviates eejits of responsibility to not spew
plague germs on small children or others.

Masks are a placebo to make people feel they are participating in some useful
manner. As a simple test, I popped one of the masks being handed out to Costco
shoppers so they may enter the store and stimulate economy, to do some
dusting/cleaning of the garage last week. Winter accumulations of particulates
and schmutz from driving through dirty snow had taken up residence on cabinets,
shelves and the floor. Battery powered leaf blower did the bulk removal of
spider webbing and dust/dirt. That kicked up a cloud of swirling filth to
stand in. Got much of it out the door and went back in with damp shop toweling
to wipe surfaces down.

Upon removal of masking (supposed n95 surgical type) I blew my nose. The
residue on the tissue was not pristine in the least. Dark snotty mess full of
particulate. That mask is not saving me from you. It is concentrating any
plague matter I exhale in great density upon my face and proximate environment.
Perhaps BSL3 suits could contain and reduce plague transmission. A
wonderbread size hank of cloth does not.

Exactly correct on all points, from scientific viewpoint and "proper"
investigation and development.

However, world wide, public panic is inflamed, rather than soothed, by
conflicting informations and opinions from "people who should know better"
than to make statements other than what you just outlined as the normal
glacial pace of science.

Here, we are now having a second wave of near tsunami size with new
infections, or with better testing, newly discovered infections..
The lead / lag between good science and public panic is truly abysmal.

Re: [MBZ] ***SPAM*** RE: [Okietalk] Masks

2020-07-06 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I think the answer is, like most things about this disease, we don't
really know.

Six months is an eyeblink in normal infectious disease research.

At normal research pace, I doubt that's enough time to run a
scientifically valid experiment, write up the results, submit it for
publication and have it reviewed.

I've seen hospital potos - they wear head to toe protective gear when
operating in a COV 19 ward.

If they are tested and learn they're positive, I would assume they would
not risk spreading the virus for any surgical procedure..

Re: [MBZ] Masks

2020-07-06 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Exactly, Mitch. It’s not just masks or hand washing or isolating - it’s a
combination of things that best protects everyone as far as we know at this
point. Masks are just one part of the equation.

And your later point about the women who meet, remove and handle their masks
just reinforces this. One without the other pretty well negates any benefits.

Don, I just have a simple question.  Do surgeons who are sick still continue to
perform operations, do they just put in the mask and say to themselves "This
mask will protect the patient from virii I spew from my nose and mouth"?  Is
that what they do?

I'll bet you a dollar they don't, because they know the truth.

One more simple question.  Do the doctors and nurses who test positive for
Wuhan Red Death just put on a mask and go back to work?

God did not give us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love.  Have faith, look
for truth, use that brain that God gave you.

Re: [MBZ] Masks

2020-07-06 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
I saw this anecdote posted elsewhere, it might give a clue as to why you
can't fix this by asking/requiring the populace to cover their faces:
"Yesterday I witnessed two ladies walking down the street separately, each
wearing a mask, despite being alone. When they reached each other, they
both removed the masks and began catching up."

Now they both handled their masks, they both likely did not clean their
hands after handling their masks, and will probably touch other stuff
before washing up. And the masks themselves were not allowed to do one bit
of good for anybody, because they uncover their mouths when in the
presence of others. Possible benefit: zero. Possible detriment: nonzero.

Mostly stupid people who think that being required to wear a face mask is a
violation of their personal freedoms and not an obligation to protect others
and society as a whole. Bars and beaches were packed a few weeks ago when they

I welcome it. I see it as a textbook example of Darwinism.

That and testing has ramped up significantly here, so many of the asymptomatic

two day shipping, others take longer than two days now. I'm guessing the
increased volume and sick drivers from Covid is the reason - it'll get back
to normal some day, maybe ...

2020-07-06 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
I’m surrounded by distribution centers and they’re building more. They just
bought an existing 400,000 SF warehouse about 10 miles north of me and are
building another on the east side of Tampa. This is in addition to an existing
distribution center in Ruskin, about 20 miles south of me, and a large parcel
distribution center in Lakeland, FL, about 20 miles east of me.

I’ve heard rumors that they’re looking to leverage the airport in Lakeland,
too. If you’re an EAA fan that’s where their “Sun ’n Fun” event is held every
year, the southern version of Oshkosh.

Yeah, I know. I’ve been waiting for someone to take me to task on it, but
crickets so far. That and I used big fancy words which tend to confuse and

I’ve mentioned this before, but nearly everything we’ve ordered in the past
couple of months has come early. That’s usually two day or longer stuff,

Very good condition

 *
   6-Cyl, 3.2 Liter
 *
   ABS
 *

   Seller's description…

This is a 1994 Mercedes Benz E320, $7000 or trade. Picture album with 50
pictures linked below. I will ignore dumb messages. The car is bagged,
but nothing is modified on the car, that wouldn't allow it to be put
back to stock. The car is in nice shape for being 26 years old, but it
is not perfect. The car gets attention where ever it goes but hasn't
really been shown since it was finished, other than a couple of cars and
coffee events. The car starts and runs just fine, all the windows work.
Air Ride is stealth installed, nothing is visible except the switch box.
The Good: Fresh color matched paint on all exterior plastic. New
cat-back exhaust Main wire harness replaced (common problem on this car)
Throttle body replaced (common problem on this car) Drive belts and
pulley were changed (common problem on this car) Rear window regulators
were changed (common problem on this car) Fishbowl clear glass all
around. Looks sweet, but also would allow for matching tint all around.
The bad: The air conditioner compressor appears to be bad and won't stay
engaged. It could be something else, but I've not investigated it.
Sunroof seal needed to be replaced, it doesn't leak, it is just ugly,
see the pictures. The car needs two covers for jack points on the
passenger side. I have one that needs to be painted, another needs to be
sourced, I can provide a contact. Two small dents, they could be fixed
by PDR Wheel fitment rubbed the front fender and it needs to be painted
Carpets are dirty and stained. The battery will die if the car is left
sitting for about 10 days. I'll throw in the maintenance charger I use
for the car. Aftermarket Parts AMG Body kit, that is likely fake, but I
don't really know. AMG Monoblock wheels. Staggered 8/9 inch wide
fitment. Common Wealth Motoring bracket kit, cups and rear control arms.
Slam Specialties SS6 Air Bags VU4 Manifold Block AVS 7 Switch Billet
Switch box 5 Gallon Air Tanks 2 Viair 400Cs Sweet 90s Motorola Cell
phone(for Radwood Cred) Air Ride is all installed in hidden locations,
The seats can fold down, and no air management is visible other than the
switch box. Photo Album of 50 pictures.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/EnTgWWeEoh2uAEDLA Price $7000 I am open to
trades up or down. I will trade for projects, but I won't trade for a
box of parts and a chassis. Bagged duallys or body dropped trucks will
get my attention. I'll consider anything bagged with 4 doors. I'll
consider RUNNING LS swap projects. I won't trade for import cars on fake
wheels or euro cars that aren't air-cooled. If you want to trade for a
project that can't drive, you must be willing to deliver it to
Charlotte, NC area. FYI I won't take payments or hold this car for a
year on a $50 down payment. So don't bother with that crap.
