[MBZ] Copart

2021-06-26 Thread Kaleb Striplin via Mercedes
Copart has now changed their membership to require a annual fee of
something like $59 per year.  They dropped mine down to the new free
version which I guess lets you search cars but you can't have saved
searched, or bid on anything of course.  I guess I am done with Copart
now.  It has probably been at least a year since anything has been
selling for anything remotely reasonable.  If things were normal and you
could still find decent deals there I might consider paying the $59, but
not now.

2021-06-26 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I agree on the price. My parents had a Saturn years ago and it was on par with
a low-end import economy car as far as interior and accessories. It was good
mechanically, at least they never had any problems. I have always thought of
Saturn as that sort of car and never really realized that they had moved more
upscale with later models.

yeah and I didn't even get invited.

8yr ago today SloJo paid a visit to our environs and buggered things up

were not particularly happy with all the nonsense.  This was like the
3rd or 4th time he was down here mooching off someone.  Some friends of
mine who live over there saw "Dr." Jill walking on the beach a coupla

I had 100W bulbs in there, these things throw out so much more directed
light it is amazing.  There are two ceiling fixtures right above the 2
car bays, in the middle, they really did not do much of anything to
light up the space beyond enough to keep from tripping over stuff.
While you are correct about the costs, there is also value to consider.
Improved performance and probably a lot less electron usage, I am happy
with them over an incandescent.

Re: [MBZ] FCPEuro

2021-06-26 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
Yeah I ordered the $13 fill tool from FCP too, they had a $20 discount
code or something on the amount of stuff I was getting, it was like $9
on Amazon, I figured to get all the stuff in one box would be easier
than dealing with the Amazon idiots who can't find my driveway.  Fedex
is supposedly bringing it all today sometime.

This tube just screws into the drain hole and you put your fill hose on
it then pump up through it.  You could probably make one with hardware
store parts, whatever might fit in the drain hole then a barb fitting or
something but for $9 or $13 it's not worth the bother.

Anecdote: Thursday an Amazon driver brought something, this young woman
who looked like a macaw with bright green hair and various facial
hardware.  She has been here before, and is nice.  I told her that she
found me but her colleague couldn't the other day.  She says oh yeah he
called me a coupla times trying to find your driveway.  I guess he gave
up on her and he had called me 2X too...

It’s an abysmally stupid design, a dipstick/fill tube would be so much easier.

drain/flush (through the cooler lines) then refill. Yes you need a pump and
tool to fill from the bottom and a scanner to get the temp up to 45C (I think)
and watch that, then add or drain fluid until it doesn’t drip out the
drain/fill hole.

There’s a whole procedure, not hard but more involved than the 722.6, will take
9-10L to do it all with the cooler flush. Youtubers abound.

The kit has 7L, I ordered another 5L jug so should be enough for both.

You KNOW it wasn't the engineers that came up with that idea. That change,
"Eliminate the dipstick and fill tube." has Management written all over it.

I've experienced this myself, some years ago now, regarding diagnostic LED's
that were visible through the cooling grille on the side of a computer. Big
'cost
saving' measure to eliminate 25 cents worth of LED's. Times the thousands of
units of our total production, this no doubt 'saved' enough to buy their
celebratory
lunch --- at McDonalds! And, wiped out instantly by the cost of ONE service
callout
that could have been avoided by having the customer look at the LED's and report
back over the phone.

I ordered 2 transmission service kits for the $900E500 and $1200ML500 Thursday
evening. Selected the free shipping option that said it would be here next
Friday. Ok fine. 2-day shipping was a lot.

Got messages this morning it’s on a fedex truck for delivery today, shipped out
of Milford CT yesterday. Free 2-day shipping, almost as good as Amazon Prime
which delivered a fluid pump yesterday evening late after ordering it Thursday
too.

Learnings: Don’t pay for expedited shipping.

Looks like I can try to get the $1200ML500 sorted tomorrow, see if I can get it
transmitting properly. The E I gotta send off for a new conductor plate ($$$)
and get that running.

If the ML works that’s a quick flip as I don’t particularly care for it. Even
if not I’ll try to unload it. The E is very nice and entertaining to drive
though a quite boring color combo, so I might enjoy it for a little while and
pretend to be a boring old white man. Maybe I should break out some black knee
socks and sandals.
