This system came out while I was in trade school. Not much had trickled down to
us about it, as it wa just ocming out in new cars, but we got some examples
loaned to us from the GM regional office.

It was amazing for the time, but all we could think about when we saw it was to
wonder how easily it could be adapted/retrofitted to a carbureted engine.

Kind of like HEI ignition systems, but those were a far better idea and better
executed, too.

2024-07-24 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I was thinking the same - there’s got to be hundreds of builders out there
offering SBC 350 crate engines for all sorts of applications. Dropping a 350
SBC in a Jag was a pretty common thing back in the day. I never did it, but I
saw cars it had been done on to varying degrees of success. I even recall a
machinist havig quite the sideline making bell housing adapter plates for them.

If it’s not something new/late model, you just have to do your due diligence
(research, talk to others, look at ones for sale even if you’re not interested
in that particular car) so you’re as well-informed as possible. Provenance
plays big in the process, too, I believe.

It’s a used car. There will always be “clunkers” no matter how good a job you
do with your part.

That said, by doing the work up front, you tip the scales in your favor. But
that’s not absolute, either. Stuff happens, and when/if it does, you just have
to assess the situation as best as possible and make hard decisions, if
necessary.

Too many issues for a later model car that you’ll have limited ability to
resolve on your own. That is, I suspect there are things wrong with this that
will require a competent indy or the stealer to sort out. I’m always leery of
“mechanic’s specials” as they typically have things wrong with them that your
average mechanic doesn’t want to touch or it would be too expensive to resolve.
Electrical gremlins fall into this category, making any work often charged at
time and materials - you can’t flat rate electrical troubleshooting.

I’m sure you’re feeling pressured to find something, but take your time, the
right car will show up.

Show up with $5k of dead presidents in hand and I’ll bet they’ll talk.

Being a fuel injected model, you couldn’t ask for more. This is a pretty

Re: [MBZ] OT sitting for about 35 years found hidden in a garage 1959 Jaguar mark 9, $4, 500

2024-07-21 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Actually, like older MBs, there are still a lot of parts being made, albeit
reproductions.

I have always been an electrical guy, so the electrical systems weren’t that
daunting to me, at least they never seemed to be. That, and when I went through
a car all of the connections would get checked and cleaned/replaced whatever,
to ensure their (future) integrity.

Yes, there were electrical connections and cables in places you would never
think of putting them on a car, especially with engineers who lived in a
climate like the British Isles. For those there was grease, lots of grease.
Messy, for sure, but it could do a heck of a job keeping fasteners and
terminals dry and corrosion-free for the most part.

That said, when I wrenched for a living, even in that short time, I fixed stuff
as if I would be the next person to see it.

50s and 60s Jags were a hoot to drive when set up and running properly, and
could easily blow a lot of Detroit muscle car iron off the road when the
opportunity presented itself (complete hearsay, of course!)

My absolute favourite was the XJ140, a coupe that had the same 3.8l engine as I
recall. That thing could outrun a well-equipped police car of the day easily.
People would be next to you at a light in their Cutlass or big Detroit iron
looking at the “cute little foreign car” and a few seconds later they would be
in your dust.

Fun cars, but sometimes maddening. I think the one engineering thing I hated
the most was a right angle cable drive that was used to run both the speedo and
tach (they each had their own cable and both used the stupid 90 degree gear
drive thingy.) I don’t think I ever drove a vintage Jag in which both the
speedo and tach worked at the same time.

It’s got the 3.8l OHC inline six, which was actually a pretty robust engine.
I’ve rebuilt several of these (engines) and if you take the supporting systems
that go with them (especially electrical!) out of the equation they are good
engines.

The Mark 9 was sort of a LWB version of smaller models as I recall. Never seen
one in the flesh, but I’ve seen and worked on a lot of its smaller cousins.

Floyd knows better than I, but I believe it’s longer so it can offer third row

for it. That said, like a lot of optional third row seating, it was pretty
worthless unless you were using it for kids.

Re: [MBZ] Nice Heckflosse on BAT

I love this and pretty much all the single-stage paints they used back in the
day. This stuff can almost be down to the metal and you can still get a good
shine out of it. Very thick, lots of pigment, very forgiving.

AC was a dealer add-on for most of the pre-W108/114 models as I recall. I’ve
installed the aftermarket (Behr) AC on these and it’s actully pretty easy to
do, moreso now with the ability to use more efficient compressors (Sanden) and
better hose (barrier) material than was avaialble at the time. It does a pretty
good job if it’s set up properly. I’ve had both W108s and W114s with factory
(R12) AC, and neither was great. The W108 was pretty ineffective in the Florida
climate, but the W114 was a coupe and a bit smaller in interior volume, so it
had that going for it.

Love the beige. The light gray right after that, and both dark and China blue.

Re: [MBZ] CrowdStrike

2024-07-19 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
That’s the beauty of running VMs for customer-facing applications like yours
that’s used for training. Spin up new ones each time, tear them down when
you’re done. Rinse, lather, repeat.

One bad thing for CrowdStrike out of this besides the obvious - now people know
what these companies are using to secure their endpoints. This is not something
most customers want to publicize, as it makes the Bad Guys’ job a little easier
when they know what they’re up against.

Re: [MBZ] CrowdStrike

2024-07-19 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Correct. CrowdStrike updates continuously, that is, it constantly “watches” the
environment, and when it sees a machine that isn’t up to date, it immediately
pushes a patch/update. However, if the client that resides on the machine is
borked, it’s got to be fixed manually, that is, by someone logging into the
machine with admin rights and running commands directly from the C:\ prompt.

You can automate jobs like this, but it can be tricky in a large environment
because of all the variables involved with different configurations.

Also understand that CrowdStrike isn’t just on endpoints/PCs, it’s also used on
production servers. That is a whole ’nother bag of hurt to have to patch. Very
difficult to do automagically, so I’m suspecting that those will all have to be
done manually. In my former environment there were over 600 servers/virtual
machines in production. Do the math.

Gonna be a long weekend for a lot of people.

Re: [MBZ] '08 ML550

I wouldn't be too worried about it depending on where the CarFax reported the
damage. If it was the rear hatch, it’s possible badging isn’t available
anymore. Rear wiper can be bodged up by carwashes.

Don’t focus on the little stuff too much, look at it collectively as a part of
the Big Picture. It’s a car that’s been on the road for 15-16 years. It’s not
going to be perfect, no matter what. Your scan is probably the most important
thing to consider initially if a good visual and road test don’t turn up
anything concerning.

Knowing that the Carfax reported minor damage, does anyone get nervous when
they see a sagging rear wiper in a lack of badging? Or am I being a goofball?

I will probably go scan this today and look at the color in person.

Bob,

It’s not so much the ML550, but the W164. It’s a major improvement over the
W163s, far more car-like while still retaining a lot of the truck qualities
that made the W163 useful.

I’m not sure the smaller displacement W164s do much better economy-wise, so
having the ML550 does provide some advantages when it comes to power and
towing. Amazingly, my ML550 got better mileage while towing a UHaul car carrier
with the CL600 on it than running empty. Go figure!

I love mine, despite the crappy mileage. If I’m just tooling around town I’ll
be lucky to hit 16 mpg, but on the highway, depending on load, I’ll easily hit
the mid and upper teens. I don’t drive that much anyway, so the difference
doesn’t really matter a whole lot to me. It’s a far more comfortable ride, I
think, far less truck-like than the W163, and has more creature comforts, too.

Mine is approaching 200k without any real issues to speak of. I bought it with
175k on the clock two years ago for $6500, so the one you’ve posted isn’t far
off based on price and mileage. Provenance is important on these, and while
there’s no major issues with the W164s that I know of, good maintenance is
always important. This one is really loaded up, with pneumatic suspension,
Parktronic (which is pretty rare on these) as well as the rear seat
entertainment system (DVD player.)

Nice example. I would definitely consider this one if I was looking for another
W164.

I hadn’t gone through all of the pictures when I wrote this - even worse, with
the dings on the trunk lid and my indicator for how well a car is cared for -
the headlight wipers are wonky.

I’ve always felt that if someone took good care of a car like this, the
headlight wipers would not be all out of whack. Whenever I see them like this,
it tells me the owner isn’t that detail-oriented about maintaining the car.

Floyd has some insight into the pneumatic suspension, but I don’t think it’s
problematic based on what I’ve heard/read. I believe it’s a system similar to
what’s on the W220/211, but not sure as I’ve never owned a car with it. If so,

Re: [MBZ] 1957 180

I always look for the heater boxes on either side of the engine compartment.
They were made of heavy pressboard (cardboard) and by now have deteriorated to
dust. one in this car that I can see, but the way in which they photographed
the engine compartment makes me suspect.

As for “expertly restored,” I think not. Someone painted this their favorite
color(s), none of which were standard MB colors available at the time. It’s a
major bastardization in every way. I wonder what the undercarriage looks like.

This is one of those “restorations” that was done to suit the owner’s taste,
not follow the original design. As a result, it’s a one-off car, making it near
impossible to sell/market or recover costs.

Ouch.

Re: [MBZ] '08 ML550

2024-07-18 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes

I would definitely consider this one if I was looking for another
W164.

I've purchased a number of new cars over the years, mainly for Mrs. Dan as
that’s what she wanted, but I always paid cash for them. That ended when I got
her out of a Mazda6 I bought new in 2006 that she drove into the ground, but we
got pretty decent money for when she was done with it. After that she went into
a Benz in the early 20-teens and has never looked back.

Can’t imagine driving a new nannymobile. Driving rental cars has become a
challenge at times, with all the newfangled stuff. I don’t like most of it.

Don’t know about that.

The old couple down the street from me who have two whole rooms in their home
literally full of Lionel stuff, most of is still boxed with with all the boxes
and packing materials can’t give the stuff away. MMM says they’re asking train
show prices, too, which also may contribute to to the problem.

Part of the problem is their unwillingness to ship anything, however, this is a
perfect example of Baby Boomers and their interests and how not a whole lot of
younger people care about this stuff.

Re: [MBZ] Amazing Mercedes Wagon

2024-07-16 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
These are wonderful cars, and have the reliability of a Corolla. I wonder how
many miles it has.

My former 1999 E320 wagon had almost 230k on the clock before it went to
CoPart. It was perfectly drivable and would easily make 300k given the chance,
I believe.

I paid $3300 for it in 2017 with 175k on the clock. One owner, dealer
maintained. Insurance company totaled it out for $5300 in March. I think I may
have made money on this deal.

Re: [MBZ] begje interior

2024-07-16 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I’ve done it, but considering that this is nothing more than a flip for the guy
and he has no interest in the vehicle itself, you’re essentially assuming the
risk he took when he bought it at auction. If it was a private seller/owner I
would have a different attitude as you could at least get some history out of
them, but in this case that’s a big black hole and isn’t going to change unless
you get a VMI.

If you were Floyd with a vast estate and cars to scavenge parts off of as well
as resources for reprogramming ECUs, I could totally see it. But in your case I
think it’s a bad idea. I would feel the same way if it were me, even knowing
what we do about it at this point. Unless I was hell bent on having one of
these, I would move on. There will always be more.

Worst case, check it out, scan it, (don’t share the results with the seller, he
doesn’t deserve or need thte information) and report back to see if it’s
repairable. Then you’ve got to make a quick decision as to whether or not you
want to assume the risk.

I’ve walked away from plenty of deals like this and never felt bad about one
yet.

Re: [MBZ] 2002 SLK320 - 83k miles - $7,500

2024-07-15 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
That’s actually a nice deal for the price based on the information in the ad.
If the top works and doesn’t leak (hydraulic fluid) and the interior isn’t all
aged out like they can get, it’s a good deal.

I researched and even looked at and drove a number of these thinking that it
was the natural progression for Mrs. Dan from her SL500, but she decided not.
They’re fun little cars, and with the M112 in them they’re pretty
indestructible. Avoid the supercharged four cylinder versions (SLK230) as they
can have issues with supercharger seals. I don’t believe it’s a big deal to
work with, but I avoided them for that reason.

Sure looks like it, with the requisite bubbling underneath at the base of the
left “C” pillar, too. Beautiful color, not sure it’s factory, though.

Re: [MBZ] Selling due to transmission slipping but drives. 2004 Mercedes-Benz sl-class SL 600 Roadster 2D, $10, 500

2024-07-15 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Rebuilding automatic transmissions is far from rocket science. In fact, it's
pretty simple for the most part. Make sure you have a place to work that’s
clean, an area to disassemble that can get oily/dirty, and some high quality
snap ring pliers and you should be good. I’m sure the more modern/electronic
they get the more difficult it will be, but something like a 722.x can’t be
that difficult.

Re: [MBZ] sagging headliner repair

2024-07-14 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I’ve done my own as well as paid for it to be done, and all I can say is it was
far cheaper in so many ways to have it done I would never DIY it again, except
maybe for an R129. They’re really simple since the top is removable. That said,
it’s a mess and you’ll never, ever get all the old glue off the headliner
board. You can save some money by R&R’ing it and taking it to your
headliner/upholstery shop, but to be honest, they’re so good at it I found the
difference in price to be marginal at best.

Re: [MBZ] sagging headliner repair

2024-07-14 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I would add that while implied, I didn’t point out that the headliner is glued
down to the roof at the top of the windshield and rear window. The dark brown
stuff you see is old glue, probably hide glue (as in made out of rendered
animals.) You can’t really do a proper headliner install on these cars without
removing the windshield and rear window seals. The fabric actually wraps around
the weldment of the window opening in some places, so trhying to “cheat” and
jus ttuck it under means having to try and jam a bunch of fabric where it
doesn’t belong, or trimming it during installation (very risky!)

And again, it’s the perfect opportunity to replace the windshield and rear
window seals, too. With OE rubber, of course!

I can’t speak to the W108s, but four years ago or thereabouts when I was doing
the W111 220SEb a new headliner, complete from Mercedes, was under $200 and on
the shelf in Germany.

But - it cost quite a bit to have it replaced. That’s mainly because I had both

The Noahs are nice, but very pricey compared to everyone else, or so it seemed
when I was shopping. I went with the SealSkin as I didn’t expect to have to use
mine for more than a year.

I’ve owned several of the 6 cylinder W108s, and they were great cars. Never had
a V8 version, never wanted one for just the reasons Jaime stated. That, and I
suspect they’re tough to work on with the limited space in the engine

Re: [MBZ] Undercover - A car cover

2024-07-13 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
I’ve used “Seal Skin” covers for several cars, one of which was stored for the
winter under one outdoors. It worked just fine, no problems to report. Between
the temperatures, snow and sun exposure, it held up quite well, I thought. No
complaints about it and nothing to indicate any damage or things like scratches
on the finish from it. These are “breathable” covers, which if you’re storing
outdoors you want - that prevents moisture buildup under the cover. I don’t
think it matters, but I also had a battery tender on the car during this time
as well.

Car Covers for Sale – 50% Off, Lifetime
Warranty

[favicon_32x32.png]

I’ve tinkered with so-called “ceramic coatings” and haven’t been terribly
impressed. That is, they appear to work, but so does a well-applied coat of
wax, too. If you wax a car and then store it, the wax isn’t going to degrade,
so it really doesn't make a lot of difference when it comes to waxing and
storage. If the car is going to sit out in the elements, and this is wholly
dependent on the climate where you live, that might matter.

I did this on exposed ground, so before I parked the car (ML350) I put down a
cheap HF tarp that was larger than the area the car covered. That way I didn't
have to worry about moisture from the ground affecting the undercarriage of the
car. Parking a car on grass or dirt is a bad idea if it’s going to be there for
a while.

All, I have had some conversations with a few people locally and I am doing

years of use out of it and it never let me down at the time I needed it most.
I love my 123.

That being said, I am on the hunt for another vehicle. This time, I am looking
at convertibles and a 2nd "runaround" vehicle for daily use. This new one will
only get driven occasionally. And certainly not in the snow, and it a week of
rain is predicted, not then either.

My property doesn't have a garage but it does have a good-sized driveway.

The questions:

 1. Who uses a car cover, what brand, and how has it worked out for you? I
have heard moisture can build up under some of them during long-term storage

 1. What defines "long-term?" Winter? December - March? I would think
anything over 6 months would be long-term. And winter I would think would be
better than summer long-term.

 1.
Has anyone had experience with portable garages? Carports only offer direct
overhead protection, not blowing rain and snow so someone suggested a portable
garage (not connected to the house)

 2.
What type/brand of wax or ceramic coatings are best to use? Some have said
that the seams on the underside have left fine scratches on the car body.

Thanks!

Re: [MBZ] Local W108 in MD

2024-07-13 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
David,

Just to clarify, there are steel springs in the (rear) suspension. The
hydropneumatic compensator does just that, it compensates for load on the rear
suspension and is intended to maintain a specific ride height. Often mistakenly
considered nothing more than a big shock absorber, it’s actually a fairly
complex device with internal valving to control its operation.

[genuine-mercedes-benz-hydropneumatic-compensator-shock-w108-w110-w111__20719.1625604934.386.513.jpg]

ZF made these, and I found a link I had to their former web page with a
description of the “Nivomat” as it was branded by them:

Cars | Nivomat® - ZF Friedrichshafen
AG
web.archive.org
[X]

Due to the cost of the device, when they failed a lot of owners opted to go
with a fixed steel spring instead of the compensator, as it was easy to
retrofit. Also, not all of the models with swing axles had a compensator, some
came from the factory with the spring setup, as in a lot if not all of the W110
and W111 models that used the same rear axle setup. Jamie is probably far
better versed on these than me, so I’ll certainly defer to him or anyone else
that is more knowledgable.

Enjoy!

As to the hydropneumatic compensator: a clever but poorly understood
contraption mounted in place of the transverse steel spring on the rear
differential. The idea is that, with some movement over uneven pavement,
the compensator would pump itself up against a nitrogen cushion to provide
height control. Same principle as the hydropneumatic system on the station
wagons: the system only provided a "levelling" function. The clever part
being that the hydropneumatic compensator did not require a pump because it
did that part itself!

They were made by Boge and are available rebuilt provided you have a core
to supply. Last time I checked it was ~$1,500 for a rebuild. I'm sure they
replace a bunch of seals and stuff, but most probably all that fails is
they lose the nitrogen gas charge. Same thing happens on the station wagons
and for that matter the 6.9 system. Different again (essentially a copy of
Citroën's system in the DS from 1955) because there are literally NO steel
springs. The car is totally dependent on the hydraulic system to stay "up",
hence the way the 6.9s sink to the ground if not used. NOT like the W100
and W109 systems, which use air, not hydraulic pressure.

I swapped in the (easily available from Mercedes) spring on my W108 in
place of the compensator. Took about 15 minutes. I have kept it just in
case...

Re: [MBZ] uhoh -- 2001 Mercedes-Benz s-class S 600 Sedan 4D,$3,000

2024-07-12 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
Yeah, I can see a “drive and dump” on this for the money of it’s relatively
solid and functional.

Believe me, I checked when I saw what it would entail to replace one of the
rear ABC hoses on the former CL600. You would have to drop a boatload of stuff
to get the hose out/in, like rear axle, driveshaft, suspension, etc., etc.
Nope! I talked to the industrial hose guys I’ve used for years in Tampa and
they said no problem, they also recommended going to a higher pressure rated
hose to cut down on any flexing.

Those rear lines are really cheap - around $100 or so, but the labor to replace
them will cost you several thousand due to the need to drop almost everything
under the back of the car.

But you know that - and also to just measure the distance with a piece of scrap
tubing and have one made up at your local industrial hose place, and run it
directly, tied down with tiewraps.

Re: [MBZ] Bid only $2250 -- 2007 Mercedes-Benz S600

2024-07-12 Thread dan penoff.com via Mercedes
A couple of warnings from someone who has stayed there and played in the casino:

1.) Take a lot of nickels. They clearly cater to the slot machine crowd, as
does every casino in AC from the looks of things. Very little in the way of
table games. Look at the bus parking area in the middle of the NJ Turnpike 5-10
miles outside of Atlantic City. All day-trippers.

2.) They don’t comp drinks, even soft drinks. At least they didn’t when I was
there. I was playing a fairly high-stakes craps game, and had been for about an
hour, when a waitress tried charging me a buck for a Diet Coke. I was stunned.
I asked her when they stopped comping players for drinks, and she said they
never had. Maybe that’s changed, I don’t know, but I immediately cashed out and
never spent another dime in the place.

This is dated, as it was in the 1990s, but I’m sure the demographics haven't
changed for the majority of the customers. Atlantic City is not where the
whales and high-rollers go anyway.

Again, given the choice, it’s best to stick with facelift (1996-on) W140s and
R129s for a lot of reasons.

I have to believe that unless a W140 was a garage queen or stored away that
wiring harness issues, at least for the main engine harness, have probably been
addressed.

That said, lower engine harnesses as well as throttle body harnesses are always
suspect as they’re rarely changed.

I had them in a number of cars over the years, and even installed a set in my
1962 300SE as it didn’t come with any. The weldnuts were in the pan but had
covers or plugs. I bought a complete set of belts and I think it took about 30
minutes to install them.

A good part of the motivation was due to my youngest son, who, after being
given his first ride in the car, runs inside to tell his Mom, “Mom, Dad’s new
car is so old it doesn’t have seat belts!!”

Oops.

The chrome wheel arches are an abomination on any car and also hasten infection
with the tinworm. I can’t count the number of W126s I’ve seen over the years
where all it took to start rust occurring with these things on the car was the
little screws they used to self-drill into the fender lip.

I’m not a fan of the 8-hole wheels on W123s, but with the limited choices of
wheel sizes for these cars, especially 15” versions, I would consider it for
just that reason. I’ve owned a W123 with stock 15” steel wheels, and it was a
totally different car to drive compared to the 14” stock wheels. I completely
agree that they should be bundts (yuck!) or steelies with color-keyed wheel
covers, the classiest looking setup I've ever seen on any car trying to
coordinate wheel colors with the body color scheme.

to expect when he scans the car for the first time. A lot of cruft, most

codes, then drive the car for a few days at least if it doesn’t goof up. At
that point call it an anomaly, hitting the shifter to the “manual” side, or
heat, who knows? Or, if things really are going south or potentially borked,
the scan he’ll do in a few days after clearing out the cruft will reveal what’s
going on in the present.

I’m no proponent of cheap Chinesium scanners, but for the $150 or so that one
costs, the amount of information you can get from it even if you’re not
planning on doing the work yourself, is invaluable. I especially like the one I
recommended to AZBob, as it has a built-in feature that allows you to email a
copy of the scan results with codes and links to OBDII resources if it’s an
OBDII code. I know Floyd had one that borked, but mine has held up just fine
with limited use.

Scan it and see if you have solenoid codes. Any codes would suggest inability
for TCM to talk to the conductor plate (I’m assuming 163?). The TCM is under
the steering wheel a bit to the left, you can pop off the connector and see if
there is any fluid that has wicked up. If not check the connector at the
transmission for fluid inside it. If those are dry it’s likely CP time which on
a 722.6 is not expensive but a bit of a bother to swap (not as much as 722.9).
Figure $200-250 for new CP and fluid and filter (which you should do anyway if
it’s been awhile). Plenty of utubers on how to do the job. Valvoline Maxlife
is a fluid you can use.

If necessary. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Pan plug seals often come with the
filter. You can use Hengst/Mann/Mahle filters, as long as they’re the actual
name-brand and not a knockoff. I prefer Mann, but any of these I believe are
OEM. I get them on Amazon. I’ll also replace the plug and sealing ring no
matter what. They’re cheap and you’re there.

As someone else mentioned, the Valvoline MaxLife for foreign cars is acceptable
an dreadily available at FLAPS as well as WallyWhirled, too, I believe.

But wait until you can get a scan. Unless it does it again, which I’m betting
it won’t.

This is like the million dollar house that has been on the market for a long
time, and they come out with a “price cut” of $5k. Why bother?

I can't shake this one from my brain. I might go give it a look with
money in my pocket but it's so hard to get motivated to do anything

Someone said $5K would be reasonable? I'm not sure how quickly a vehicle
unloads in an estate sale. What are coupe red flags?

I also noticed, this second time looking at it, that there seems to be
grease oozing from the driver's front hub. Big deal? Can't say I've ever
 seen that before.

Never had a coupe. But I certainly don't want to latch on to something
that is going to be more of a headache than having a 45 year old car
 already is.

Did you check to be sure the harness wasn’t full of ATF?

This begs the question, “What ever happened to all of the W140s, especially
