Re: [MBZ] (no subject) wheel offset

2009-02-10 Thread Hendrik & Fay
Early 201's (84 and early 85) have a different offset (same as 123's) to
later ones.

I don't think so. For the 201/124 the switched to a deeper
offset, and I think everything since has been more like them.

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)

2009-01-25 Thread E M
The new S Class S400 hybrid. Already set to be a class winner, I wonder
what would happen if the new system was paired with a diesel? I'm not
really interested in hybrids, but it's kind of interesting watching the
development of these cars, and where it's all going, now that some big
players like Mercedes and Lexus are adapting these systems to their top
models.

Anyone want to take a guess at what it will cost to replace one of these
battery packs? I get a bit scared when they apply the word "complicated"
several times to the operation of this system. lol

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)

2009-01-25 Thread Curt Raymond
More than twice as big as mine for just under $30k less than we paid for ours
but the taxes are more than double mine and its a lot uglier than my house. I
think we've got more land too...

Oh you'd have to life in Kansas too... Much as some people bitch about snow and
whatnot I have pretty much no worries about some twister coming through and
killing us.

Re: [MBZ] (no subject)

2009-01-25 Thread John Freer
man oh man, that sure is expensive.

Same house here in the Southwest area can be had for under 100K. Las
Vegas area has hundreds of new homes like that which are bank owned
and can be had for 85K or so.

Ed, thousands of Canadians own homes here in the Palm Springs area and
all they have to do is to pay real estate taxes, etc. It's no big
deal. Don't know what happens though when you sell as the IRS and
State Tax Board wants their share of your profit.

Glad to hear that your trip was back to normal with filter changes. . Now
that you're running for the road come on up to RI on Sept 13 for the MB
fest. I agree-filters form Rusty are cheap and good insurance-I buy about
the same amt at a time. I try to change inline one more frequently on the
theory that it might protect the canister one. Esp. once I get a visible
blockage in the pre filter.

Got to VT the car was back to it's usual great self, found myself doing 85 a
few times with out even realizing it and accelerating going up the hills
when i wanted to pass!! The only "victim" was the mileage which looks to be
back to 32 - 33, judging by the gage, haven't t refilled yet.

Always have a pre-filter in the trunk in the tool bag, the one in the car
that i swapped out was not too bad looking, Tend to change them every 10K
when doing Mobil1 & filter changes, i buy them 6 to 10 at a time from
Rusty, figure it's cheap insurance. It turns out the main filter was in too
long; missed it on the last 30K major workup. Won't do that again!!

Interesting that i missed a big clue on the last few trips the mileage was
too good to be true i was getting 37 on the road and 35 in my daily commute
of 65 miles round trip. Guess there is something to a lean fuel mixture - if
there are no hills to climb : ).

Glad to hear that-that was my guess. One more thing. Put at least a couple

I have attempted every concoction imaginable to loosen up the rusted

Today I tried a brand called Koni, I think ??? It loosened more than

Yep, I admit it. "I am dumber than a New England Rust Spot."

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all

You could probably sell the devel rights to a preservation trust and then
rent out some of the land to someoen to farm it seems like a nice
system to help with the financing!

without a house, I would build a 30'x30' 2 story barn. Inside would be a 2nd
floor studio type apartment with 2 car garage workshop below. I might make
larger...depends on how much the land would set me back ($1500-3000/acre local
market) and how much loan the bank will give me.

I talked to the realtor today, unfortunately didn't get a hold of him
until after lunch so I can't get inside until tomorrow. Bad news is the
bathroom needs floor replacement, the well didn't pass inspection,
there is no septic system (at least not by modern standards) and
the residency permit has been revoked, not to be restored until
everything meets current codes. Rats. Around here, that place would
be worth maybe 80k all fixed up, and I know of $20k worth of fixing
that needs to be done, with who knows how many surprises lurking.
I had been thinking $20k for the lot, $10k for the garage, $15k
for well and septic, and if the whole package was $40k the house
could be considered free. That changes if it doesn't come with
useable well or septic, in an area where drainfields don't come
cheap due to high water table.

I think I'd be better off with a larger $25k lot and a big pile of
building materials. Should I build a house with attached garage,
or save $10-20k and build a 45x72 barn and build a house inside it?
The former would have $70k more resale value, the latter would be
more my style.
Mitch.

How do you "easily cure" the "oil separator" in the breather?

Find out what's wrong with it, and correct it. It has no
moving parts, etc. Just some tubing and some seals.

Was back at PnP today trying to fetch the puegot IP, walked past a 300D.

This is a euro model 300D. Engine looks REALLY good. Still complete
enough. I was not able to attack it too much since I did not have the
tool I wanted to liberate the IP and injectors.

Reason for it being in the yard -- sideswipe passenger side (doors)
and rust through in the floor panels. 206k miles on the clock,
interior is ok, paint on not crunch side old, but no rust. Auto trans,
retrofit AC, good radiator and oil cooler, no turbo.

I am not going to try to transplant that 617 into Gump, so you who need
it, should come and get it. PnP is in Lynnwood, WA

Les,

Why don't you pull out your old inspection sheet and list the categories,
the ones you failed, the allowable limits and what your car scored? Also,
they
usually have a help counter at the testing stations and they can give you
some more detail about why you failed.

I bet we can help. leaking fuel pressure regulators are a leading cause of
over rich conditions that may fail your vehicle.

Simple stuff like one time my breather hose fell off the intake piping and
they failed me .

Absolutely. The system is designed to run rich as a fail-safe.

Not necessarily the cat at all, but if it's been running rich
for a long time it could take out the cat too.

A "banjo bolt" is a hollow bolt that has a banjo shaped fitting under
it with a hose of some type sticking out at a right angle. Hard to
miss.

Size depends on application -- the one for the turbo will be a 15 or
17, I'd guess. The ones on the IP are 17s if I remember correctly, and
you must be careful, the inlet and outlet bolts are NOT the same -- the
outlet has a very small hole in it and acts to pressurize the IP. If
you swap them, the engine won't run.

That Schrader core has a very weak spring, serves as a one-way valve so
that the gauge rises with compression and then stays there until you
hit the reset button. If you take it out, the needle will just bounce
up and down as the engine turns.
