Ya know we'd love you even more, if you used capital letters now and
then (that's the shift key or caps lock button) and trim your posts, I
just trimmed about two miles of stuff off the bottom of your post.

We know you have a shift button on your keyboard and we know it works :)

Yeah, the death squads are expected to actually hit family pets when they

The rest of the cops, well, one hit on target and two hits on bystanders

My recollection is that it was a model 10 with 4 in barrel. That was in
1968. By then we were using M-16s (A nothing) pre burst limiter.

Short barrel .38 cal revolver. I was a NUCLEAR weapons expert, not a
FIREARMS expert, but the firearms instructors called 'em "police
specials."

Sometimes during our qualification exercises with the .38, we were advised
that it may be better to "throw it at 'em and run" rather than try to hit
anything with a bullet, or maybe the noise would scare 'em for a few
seconds.

Short barrel .38 cal revolver. I was a NUCLEAR weapons expert, not a
FIREARMS expert, but the firearms instructors called 'em "police specials."
Sometimes during our qualification exercises with the .38, we were advised
that it may be better to "throw it at 'em and run" rather than try to hit
anything with a bullet, or maybe the noise would scare 'em for a few
seconds.

you've merged some names maybe on the .38. my guess is you are talking
about a model 10 military & police, which is what goering wore. or are you
talking about a short barrel chief's special?

Oil for gasoline engines in recent years has been formulated with less and less
ZDDP or zinc and phosphorus. This is due to governmental mandates calling for
emissions systems to last a minimum 100k miles. Oil formulated for diesels,
motorcycles, and off road (racing) vehicles has way more of these compounds.

So, yes diesel oil, or the 15w50 would make a fine
lubricant for your older MB. It is probably best to
follow the manufacturers instructions regarding oil
viscosity and type however. They can be found
here.

More information than anyone right in the head
would ever need or want about what fluids to use
in your Mercedes Benz Motor Car.

I got rid of my diesels. They used M1 20-50. I have two cases or so left
over. Gasser cars are pretty happy with 10-30, so will invest in M1 of that
flavor. Should I use the diesel weight in the 450SL? The thicker stuff seems
to work well in the old engine

Yes, in the cold weather, having lighter oil on start-up may be better.
I just wonder as the miles pile on if things wear a bit and leave room
for a bit more oil.

I have been running Mobil1 in it for years.

Well I have run an '03 toda 4 cyl pickup for over 235,000 miles
now on 15-40 all fleet from Wally's place. It still wants to go
so that might work for you. I just have to remember to change the
oil and filter every 5K miles but other then that it's worked for me.

I used 15W-40 or 20W-50 in the SLC when I had it - I don't think the older
engined like the light weight oil, as they weren't engineered for it. M1,

The manual says 5-20 but I think that is likely in an effort to improve
mileage.
I ran 5-20 in it for years but have been using 10-30 the last couple of
oil changes and really see no difference in the way the engine runs.
My thoughts are that it likely is not much of an issue but I also think
that as the vehicle ages, a little heavier oil is probably better.

Well said Gary. I remember some of the stuff you said some years ago on this
list and while some of it was quite amusing, it was also a bit over the top
with personal attacks which is likely why you got banned.
This time around you have been nothing but civil. In my opinion you have the
absolute right to defend yourself when attacked And you have done so in a
civilized and logical manner.
The bottom line is you are no bullshit. You provide good parts and a good
service and that's the end of the story.

Snake oil... virtual unlimited supply right now.. Congress is in session.

The price however... apparently it's paid for with ass kisses instead of
dollars...

Re: [MBZ] buymbparts is dead drunk at walmart

2013-09-04 Thread Curt Raymond
Its on, when I go to camp next month I'll try to get a porcupine pic.

I'm still game to try snake, can't be any worse than red squirrel.

Another story:
When I got a permit to hunt moose in '99 I managed to bag the moose the very
first hour of the very first day. This left us lots of time. I had my Dad's
friend's kid Michael with me. He was about 14 (and threw up when I gutted the
moose, hilarious) and eager to be in the woods. We were officially "hunting
birds" which means partridge but after not seeing any because the leaves were
still on we switched to squirrels. I gave him my Savage .22/20ga, an over and
under gun with .22 on top and 20ga under, its short and quite handy. The .22
barrel on that gun is fairly inaccurate so I figured we'd have an exciting day
not hitting anything. That sonofa gun hit ever dang squirrel I'd point him at.
So we get five or six of the tree rats down and he looks at me and says "Are we
going to have to eat them?"

I'd never thought about it but of course he's been taught that you always eat
what you kill, so sure, we're going to eat them. We go out to my camp back
before it was my camp and build a little fire and I show him how to skin one
out and toast it on a stick. Then he takes a bite, chews for a second and says
"it tastes kind of like hot dog but way chewier". We had a good laugh, tossed
the rest in the bushes and went to McDonalds...

When we lived south of Calhan, Colorado, we met up with a few badgers.
They need disposing of since they will burrow next to fence corner posts
and will ruin two fence lines.

One day, when we were driving on the lane on the south side of our 80
acres, I noticed an animal ahead. I thought it was our cat. Shirley said
it was not. When we got closer, I saw it was a badger. The lane was
fenced on the south side, but not on the north side. When we got close,
the badger headed north onto our property. I followed it in our 4000#
1962 Willys Utility Wagon. I caught up with it well away from the fence
and rolled over it with both wheels on one side. I looped around and saw
that it was still moving, so I ran over it again with both wheels on one
side. I ended up doing figure-8s in the field and had to run it over
seven times before it stopped moving.

Those things are tough! And they have a full mouth of very nasty looking
teeth!

Like those "surveyors" who were marking the southern border of Arizona
from east to west. They were SUPPOSED to continue heading straight west,
but just after Nogales, they decided they did not want to do that because
it was too hot and turned to head to Yuma.

They cheated Arizona out of an ocean-going port. One can only wonder how
things would have turned out had they kept to their assigned mission.

In other parts of the West, boundaries typically go on section lines, but
with mountains, I can see how doing things differently would be better.

Re: [MBZ] buymbparts is dead drunk at walmart

2013-09-04 Thread Curt Raymond
We get porcupines around our camp a lot. They need disposing of as they'll kill
the trees and literally eat holes in the T111 on the garage. Usually we use a
.410 or 20ga shotgun but one trip my dad brought a 9mm shotgun.
A 9mm shotgun uses a 9mm case with a cup full of very small (number 10)
pellets. They were commonly used for shooting clay targets indoors back in the
early 1900s.

Anyway one night we get this porcupine eating on the garage so we take the 9mm
and head out. Dad holds the flashlight (its like 2am) and I give him a blast.
He slows down but doesn't stop so I give him another, and another and another.
Finally dad's had enough and gives him a couple blasts with his .380 pistol.
That seems to finish things for the night.
In the morning I get up and the dang thing is still alive although it can't
move. Horrifying. I finally finished it with a couple (yes more than one) .22s
between the eyes.

The 9mm was clearly not enough for the job, the .380 didn't work out because
its hard to shoot a pistol in the dark and body shots don't do the job.
Porcupines have thick skulls so even the .22 had a hard time.

Now we always are sure to have a big enough gun for the job. Worst would be if
the thing climbed up into a tree to die, it'd have smelled forever...

Just to give you an idea of what you ask for Kaleb. To be in the
middle with 14 miles on every side that would be only 784 sq
MILES or 501,760 acres.

BTW Long Island has about 1,723 sq miles. That's 1,102,720 acres.
The King ranch in Texas is supposed to be the largest ranch in
the US at around 825,000 acres with a few more in south Florida.

I think it will be a bit of a stretch to find a ranch the right
size for sale in most any state.

Thanks for your interest, but to preserve what little privacy there is
left, lets say I won it in a poker game and let it ride.. In todays world..
NSA has all my details.. perhaps would suffice.. ;))

I was born dirt poor, walked to school barefoot in the snow.. up hill both
ways.. but learned to be a ruthless bastard in business. At an early age I
saw opportunities others didn't and capitalized on them, made risky
investments and got lucky, traveled the world for decades living out of
hangup bags and building business in countries that others were afraid to
go to. I lost more money than I made some days.. some days I didn't ..
parking money in bank CD's doesn't give a good rate of return.. land
does..[or did] so I bought land.. in several places. Still have some, sold
some, over the years, sold more than I've kept, but I still pay taxes on
properties in 4 states, if that tells you anything.

After 6 decades of running at full speed, afterburners on... I've decided
the one commodity I didn't invest enough in was peace and quiet.

I'm sure you are all a great bunch of folks, but I don't entertain much...
I'll take the list fest idea under consideration.

Rich is only relative.. if you have rich relatives. So I can't answer you
on that point.
I will say that Donald Trump does not have me on his speed dial list... but
then.. neither does Paris Hilton.. ;)

Now.. What kind of oil should I use in my Mercedes again?

And they have a full mouth of very nasty looking
teeth!

as you should, wilton, but it is happening here. this thread starts with
trent telling the story of how MY "mess" is the reason he has problems, aka
why he steals when i answer allegations, i get told i ought to get kicked
off this list for it. it's not meant in the spirit of humor, but it is
schoolyard bullying by people who think they can take free shots at me. it
is untoward and unbecoming and it ought not be tolerated by anyone

as for trent, he stole and lied. that's a fact beyond dispute, not a
personal attack. when he brings my name into conversation i have a right
to answer. the fact that when i do a number of people gang up on me is
just sick. it ought to stop.

And they have a full mouth of very nasty looking
teeth!

Re: [MBZ] buymbparts is dead drunk at walmart

2013-09-04 Thread Curt Raymond
Tough work in the dark though. Generally it goes like this, you wake up in the
night for a call of nature. Since its a camp and there is no indoor plumbing
men get to go outside, women have a bucket inside. So you're all snuggled up in
your fart sack considering if you should brave the cold or can you hold it
until morning and then you hear it. I can't think of any way to explain what a
porcupine chewing on the garage wall sounds like. Imagine somebody trying to
chisel through a garage wall and you're probably close.

Anyway as a courtesy you wake up the other sleepers, grab some shoes, maybe
pants if you want to be fancy though I usually do put on a shirt. Grab yer gun
and the big mag-light, go out and find said chewer. Usually when you shine the
light on him he'll pause but he won't run, so you chuck a rock so he'll get
away from the garage. You give him lead poisoning, answer the call of nature
and go back to bed.

Sometimes the little b@$t@rd will be up under the camp. I usually whack the
side of the camp to get him to come out, dad just shoots underneath... One time
dad did the shooting without waking the other campers, thats something exciting
to wake up to.

The strangest part of the whole thing is that you shoot a porcupine, and then a
rabbit or two shows up for the funeral. I mean like right then. You shoot,
eject the shell, look again and theres a rabbit reading last rites...

Yeah you're right.
I guess if we get a raccoon I need to get a better pellet gun. Mine will
dispatch squirrels (which is what I bought it for) but I think it'd be iffy on
a raccoon.

Ummm, Curt, are you not forcing relocation via pellet gun thereby rendering
the raccoon someone elses problem?

I miss-spoke.. it's been a long day.. 36,000 acres.. give or take.. and
it's not square.. the survey party was likely drunk or dehydrated.. ha..

Survey points run from mountain top to mountain top and along stream beds
in some places.. so it's not like a city lot.. all nice and neat.. Some of
the border is defined by Bureau of Land Management. so who really knows
what wound their watch.. Last survey was in 1952 and all major points are
marked with 2 inch steel shafts.. I've located most of them...

It seems like a lot, but actually as ranches go in this area, it's a little
one..
Desert land.. not much water.. little graze. takes many acres to feed one
animal.. maybe.

The main product is peace and quiet from a irritating public.. Hope this
satisfies all who are curious.

Is your property a square, a rectangle, or some other shape?

Thinking about it, though, it cannot be a square. That would be six miles

Since a square mile is 640 acres, a 14 mile driveway would imply
multi-thousand acres, unless your ranch were 14 miles long and 1/14 mile

Re: [MBZ] buymbparts is dead drunk at walmart

2013-09-03 Thread Curt Raymond
I've never understood "relocating" wildlife. What most people are doing is
making their nuisance wildlife somebody else's problem.
I've been having an amusing discussion on Facebook with a friend who keeps
saying things like "we moved our raccoon to the country" to which I reply "We
made the raccoon somebody else's problem". I contend in those cases a pellet
gun is the best answer. The raccoon quickly learns that turning over my garbage
cans is a bad idea that makes his ass hurt and moves on to somebody else who
gives him a free ride to somebody else's house.

Gawd.. what a visual...

Sorry to burst your fantasy, but I do not keep rattlesnakes as pets.. They
present a clear and mortal danger to me at the Ranch. Should I be bitten,
due to the remote location, medical help and intervention is to far away.

Contrary to what you might think.. cutting the head off a rattlesnake does
not render it "safe".. I've had severed heads still strike after as long as
45 minutes... with the capacity to deliver a lethal dose of venom... so..
should you encounter one... kill it and leave it.. resist the impulse to
"pick it up" cause it's dead...  They are also very territorial. If you
find one near your residence and have it removed.. it will find it's way
back within the next month..  When I first took the Ranch, I would capture
and remove any rattlesnake that came around the ranch house.. soon I
noticed what looked like the same snake [yes.. they all look alike, scary]
so I spray painted the ones captured.. sure enough.. they came back.. Since
then... I hang them on the fence and and bury the head, the coyotes or
vultures eat... nothing goes to waste.

Now.. how do we get Gary and the bicycle wrapped into the movie plot with
the mutant flying bat snakes and the sheilas with bad habits.. Help me out
here Hendrik... I see a "Cowboys and Aliens" remake in the works... ;))

Wyoming gave me the willies. Counted 129 miles between trees on I-80. I do
like quiet, wide open spaces, but some places are just a bit much. Give me a
reasonable 20 miles between watering holes. That way I can walk there in a day

Gawd.. what a visual...

I've had severed heads still strike after as long
as
