He enacted criminal statute by way of executive fiat when he declared that
failure to wear a mask in public was a more serious crime than DUI. You
can't be convicted of a misdemeanor unless the legislature has made it a

I  have heard it said breathing thru your nose provides about as much
natural filtration as most of these mask do.  Breathing thru your mouth
sucks more of it in.

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

If it is transmitted by droplets, they droplets hold the virus. If it is
airborn, the virus does not require droplets to carry it, it is carried
in the air.  Here are a couple of articles that explain the different
and precautions needed for each.  Although the one article talks about
it is known that Covid is carried in droplets, I do not believe that has
been determined.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Its a respiratory illness, of course its airborne. Think about the
word: air, meaning that stuff all around us, borne, meaning carried
upon. The virus gets carried upon the air when people cough or sneeze.
It also gets transmitted by being wiped on things. There might even be
other ways we don't know about yet.

Also, a respiratory illness will be transmitted through the mouth and
nose, covering them up will slow (but Phillip is right it won't
prevent or stop) transmission.

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
You're still missing the point, the mask isn't there to filter the virus out,
we know thats too hard. Gads, if people complain about breathing through a
simple cloth mask I can't imagine how they'd complain if it was actually
filtering.
The mask slows down your breath, it keeps your spew circle smaller to protect
others. Its not 100%, nobody with a brain is claiming its 100%. The point is to
reduce transmission.
Your circular argument is aggravating. I'm pretty sure you've just made up your
mind and lined up your talking points and don't read anything anybody else
writes. You certainly don't respond with anything new. Its kind of like arguing
with Andrew although you at least respond to the right message.

Kaleb that is totally untrue. The masks work through electrostatic charges.
They are not a sieve.

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Sweden's death rate has been in steady decline, now down to about 10 people
per day, from a high of 100 per day. I'd say their approach is looking
like it worked out just fine. Compare them to Belgium, which went the full
lock-down route, and it is clear that lock-down vs. no lock-down does not
seem to change how the Wuhan Red Death moves through the population, but
the economic impacts are sure different. Belgium had a peak of 300 per
day, and is also now down to about 2 per day. Note that Sweden and Belgium
have very similar size populations. Rather than blindly accepting what
they put on the evening news, I like to check some facts for myself, there
are plenty of websites that have tracking numbers. I like this one:

He's a Democrat though, they can, apparently anyway, do no wrong.
My sister-in-law's friend recently got a $500+ ticket for trying to go to the
beach in Maine without quarantining for 14 days first. The quarantine is under
an executive order from the government. I've yet to find a place in the
Constitution that allows for that.

Then Cuomo needs to be brought up on charges for seeding Covid into the nursing
homes. The statistics were known at the time that the elderly and those with
comorbidities were at extreme risk. In a just society, that is mass murder.

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Not really, they only have 78,000 cases in a country of 10 million. The number
of new infections per day in Sweden right now is only a bit higher than here in
MA yet they have almost 5 times as many people. So their rate of transmission
is actually lower.
Sweden has been kind of a whipping boy for not having many restrictions but the
number of infected is fairly low and at their worst they were only getting
around 1800 infections (well, reported infections) a day.
Their death rate is among the highest but is still lower than the UK or Italy.
Its worth noting that Swedes aren't big huggers. ;)

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Its a respiratory illness, of course its airborne. Think about the word: air,
meaning that stuff all around us, borne, meaning carried upon. The virus gets
carried upon the air when people cough or sneeze. It also gets transmitted by
being wiped on things. There might even be other ways we don't know about yet.
Also, a respiratory illness will be transmitted through the mouth and nose,
covering them up will slow (but Phillip is right it won't prevent or stop)
transmission.

Perhaps. Seems logical a large group will spread things. Is the virus airborne
or not? We still don’t know. If it is, masks are a total and complete waste of
time. We would need to be wearing gas masks or something.

Incorrect, mask wearing can reduce transmission unless you're an idiot. If you
insist on going to bars and clubs you're almost certainly going to get infected.
A thought I had, if some idiot goes out to a bar and gets infected, then they
go home and unknowingly infect their elderly parents who die, is that murder?

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
IMO they should be telling vulnerable people to wear N95 masks to protect
themselves. Nobody cares more about one's own health than oneself. They
will be motivated.

Telling young people who don't really have much to worry about to wear
masks that won't stop them getting the virus --- you can see why that's
a tough sell.

It CANNOT be contained. Slowed - maybe. Contained - no. Protect
those who are have a high risk, and the rest of us should move
on. If you feel you are at risk by all means isolate!!

Most of us will catch it. Most of us won't notice we had it.
Those that do have symptoms can partake of the documented
treatments to help. Once most of us have had it, the protected,
high risk folks can emerge.

Or not, because there will be another seasonal flu. And corona
virus colds. And all manner of things for our immune system to
fight. Those who have a high risk will be at a high risk from all
that stuff!

2020-07-23 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Another thing that I've heard is going on, the rich get the instant test,
and only go into treatment if needed. The poor get the slow test, and
while waiting for the results they get hospitalized in a room full of other
poor people also waiting for test results, so if they didn't have it when
they arrived, they surely end up with the Wuhan Red Death by the time they
leave. "Here's your mask, wait over there, we'll tell you when you're
sick!" Personally I'm going to do everything I can to stay away from
Hospitals, too many people die there.

Or could it be the masks are actually leading to increased cases? This could be
due to the fact that masks are trapping crap that you are then breathing in. Or
maybe the masks are creating a false sense of security?

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
They don't contain completely that much is pretty obvious but, since people
complain about masks restricting airflow its pretty clear that the mask reduces
the velocity of the air coming out of you which means the virus is more likely
to stick with you than to float around free.
Nobody with any brains is saying "masks prevent transmission 100%". The idea is
to reduce the speed of transmission to keep hospitals from being overloaded.
I'm pretty much in the camp that believes that we're all going to get it, its
just a matter of time. The thing is I want there to be some hospital capacity
available so that if I'm one of the people that needs hospitalization I can get
in. For that to be true we need to not do what Florida is doing...
Actually we kind of need to not do what New England is doing. MA for instance
has been seeing under 300 new cases per day for more than a month. Our
hospitals have loads of free capacity. At this rate it'll be a decade before we
get everybody infected and can get on with life.

1. Social distancing effect. Your exhalations have less range when you
cover your face, so 4' away from a mask wearer should be better than 4'
away unmasked, especially if he's talking.

2. Cyclone fence vs mosquito effect. If it's just the virus, any mask that
lets you smell your farts lets the virus through. OTOH, if it's water
droplets, if your mask gets wet, it's catching something.

Re: [MBZ] Mask wearing

2020-07-23 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
Sanitizing maybe, my pet theory is that the "otherwise healthy", young, strong
people who are dying or really suffering with COVID are also the people who are
excessively clean. I'm thinking that germophobes don't build as strong immune
systems.

If you're just staying away from other people you're still experiencing a whole
world of germs.
And for the last time THE MASK DOESN'T KEEP GERMS OUT. Wearing one won't
compromise your immune system because it doesn't filter germs out, it keeps
your germs on your face and away from me.
The pee metaphor is apt, if some dude is peeing and neither of you is wearing
pants you're at high risk of getting pee on you. If you're wearing pants you
get a tiny amount of protection but you're probably still going to get pee on
you. If he's wearing pants you get way more protection. The pants don't stop
the pee completely but they seriously slow the stream.

They your body loses the ability to fight common colds and flus then the deaths
go up from that.

All of these places are giving you new disposable cups for refill, everything
in styrofoam to go boxes, disposable menus, utensils. I bet the amount of trash
and pollution for all of this is unbelievable.
